I fell in love with my best friend but he didn't love me back.
Sounds like a cheesy line from a country song, right? Too bad it's the story of my life.
I thought that I’d moved on, swore he was the one.
But that facade began to fade in the flash of a half-carat diamond ring.
Now years later, here I am, running back to the boy who broke my adolescent heart, hoping that just maybe, he’ll be the one to piece it back together.

Was the scene of laughing about the transgender woman really necessary???

“Why did you guys let me play with A man’s titties?”
“Getting frisky with the man’s jugs”
“I licked a man’s nipple because of you”

No one laughed at this. Ever. Just disrespectful…
Didn’t add anything to the plot just made the guy seem like an even bigger asshole than I already thought

This book started out really good. The writing was a little choppy but I️ figured it’d be at least a 4 star read. Unfortunately, things went downhill fast. Half the book the characters are hooking up with other people and witnessing each other do it; yet, they’re both supposedly trying to get the other person to realize they have feelings for them - really? The main characters were both incredibly immature and juvenile. They were too stupid and too douchey for me to enjoy the book.

    Boring with unnecessary drama.

I tried so hard to get into this book, but it failed me at every turn. It started off so beautiful and I thought I was FINALLY getting a strong heroine that wasn’t going to drop her panties at the drop of the hat. Spoiler alert, she’s not! Alexis Mack was one of the most pathetic heroines I’ve ever read about in a while. She made my head hurt with all the irritation she caused me in this book. Colton, the “hero” wasn’t much better. The scenes between him and a million other women in this book turned me off completely. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I hate reading about other characters having sex with the main lead. It’s a major pet peeve of mine.

So many of the scenes in this book was definitely manufactured to create... wait for it-UNNECESSARY drama. That scene when they first went out to the club and Colton realises that Alexis got implants, was just disrespectful on a whole, not to mention humiliating. I do not care what excuse the writer wanted to use about him being so in love with her he doesn’t want her to get boobs implants. First of, it is HER body and she can do what she wants! Second of all, why would he want to spew such hateful comments to her in front of the two guys she had just met? If they had a close a relationship the author was trying so hard to convince that they do, he would tag her aside to discuss it and NOT embarrass her to tears.

Speaking of close relationships, what was up with the parents trying so hard to push them together? I found that very creepy and as a 22 year old myself, I can say for a fact that NO boy, best friend or not, would be allowed to sleep in my house, sharing my bed, whenever the fancy suited him. That was just very unbelievable! It’s like the parents were saying, “You guys can go ahead and have sex under our noses. We don’t care!” NO parent would give a guy that much access to their teenage DAUGHTER! That scene where Alexis’ mother told Colt how to use the bobby pin to pick the lock to get into her 13 daughter’s room just irked me to no end. The thing I was predicting, happened. He walked in on her naked. Can you imagine how traumatic that could be for a 13 girl just coming into puberty? Best friend or not?

The whole thing read like a messy soap opera and the dialogue between the two leads felt extremely forced and I got zero chemistry between either of them. Alexis would have honestly been better off with Dean, the guy that proposed to her. The dialogue in this book was also super cringeworthy. Especially that convo on the plane between Al and the old lady when the lady was enquiring about whether or not she was a virgin flyer and Al angrily said something along the lines of it being none of her business but she was not a virgin and had not been for a very long time. Yeah. Cringeworthy.

I skipped over so many pages in this book hoping to get to the end. I would not read this book again.

Ugh, I'm so sad to say it but I just didn't like this book. It started off so promising early on but then it just became this neverending cycle of bad choices and immaturity. It was kind of over the top and it lacked the emotional depth I was looking for. I really like this author's writing so I look forward to reading her other work. This one just didn't work for me.

    Heather writes really good books.
This story was cute and started of great, it’s about two friends growing up together and falling for each other.

Their parents also are best friends so it’s quite a tight family and everybody knows everything.

Because it’s such a tight family the parents were a bit much for me.

Overall it was a good book with a cute ending.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️ | three stars .

This is my second read by his author, and I’ve gotta say—I just love her writing style! The humor and wit she writes for her characters is absolutely— on point!

This story pulled on my heart strings a bit— I love a good friends to lovers story! Colton and Alexis, were besties their whole lives, their story got complicated in their teen years. It all came full circle (despite all the angst) in collage, and their HEA was a super sweet one!

    Why... just why??

This is another “could’ve” book... it could have been good if the author changed a couple of pages and didn’t make him a complete unredeemable douchebag. The author went the easy route (you know where authors can’t think of an entirely original plot so the they make the lead mad a manwhore to supply easy drama) that part is becoming more commonplace in these books, so if the book is good I can ignore it. But in this case it was particularly bad. Our “hero” has been supposedly been in love with our heroine his whole life. He spends the book whining about his feeling for her. It he never had the balls to male a move (turn off number one) and he ignore all of the signs she gives him that she is into him. He spends their whole lives rubbing other girls in her face (she is biting obvious that she doesn’t like the girls and is disappointed, he throws them in her face giving details of his sexcapades , and this is just the teen years). She gets a serious boyfriend (finally trying to move on after the many many girls he has rubbed in her face). The guys proposes and she freaks. She runs to out “hero” to work out her feelings for him. He FINALLY has the chance to win her over and what die he do? He constantly rubs the slutty chicks that basically compose a haram, in her face. He is full on making out with one in front of her at a party (the girl was on his lap and their tongues were down each other’s throats. The next night she walks into a room and a girl is giving him a blowjob (he was really into it, the author made sure that we knew that, insert eye- roll). This is all while he was trying to WIN HER OVER. I had to give up. I had list count at the is point I’d all of the different girls he hurt her with, and the times that she had cried. Each time he doesn’t seem to catch that he hurt her. No one is that dense. I didn’t have it in me to keep watching this train wreck. I’m sure he would have done absolutely nothing to make it right, and the heroine would have rolled over and accepted it like the good little doormat the author wrote her to be. It was already headed in that direction. It really doesn’t matter what the authors do to make it right later when you lost your audience halfway through.

Friends to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes. There’s nothing like young love. Two people so embedded in each other’s lives that they are in love before they even realize themselves. The obstacles and trials faced trying to hide your emotions and feelings because what if feelings aren’t mutual. Taking a chance on love is a huge risk, one that not everyone is willing to take. Loving your best friend can either make for a beautiful life or simply crush your heart and soul.

Heather has just created this beautiful love story that simply took all my breaths away. She’s going to take you on a journey that will have your heart aching and longing for love to win. The emotions are high on so many different levels and packed with so many incredible scenes you will be left wanting more. It’s funny and sexy, loving and sweet, at times you’ll feel bitter and angry but most of all it will warm your heart to the point of no return. That is something Heather nails with each and every story she creates.

Allie and Colt are playful and fun, they are hard headed and infuriating at times, but ultimately they’ve stole my heart and had me routing for them the whole way. Allie is a sweet beautiful girl who loves hard and fights for what’s true to her heart. Colton is a college basketball player and Allie best friend, he’s a beautiful hunk of a man who’s been in love with the same girl his entire life.

With the weight of the universe against them will these two allow fate to step in? I’m not telling!! Y’all get this book! Read this book!! Love this book because It’s fantastic and beautiful!❤️

“Neither of us would ever be able to give our hearts fully when half was already taken. It was time to double down. And if I had my way, we were going to come out on top.”

Heather girl!! Another Amazing story. I’m in awe of your beautiful writing and so proud of your hard work!! Keep them coming babe!❤️

It really sucks that I did not like this book at all. Two very immature childhood friends who are in love, but act like dumbasses that I didn't even care if they got together or not. It was so annoying that I had to skim through most of it to finish in hopes that these two would nut up and be adults. Sadly, they didn't.

Alex is pitiful. She is in love with her best friend Colton. Wait. Her "only" friend. Oh wait there's the old lady she met on the flight to LA. She is obsessed with him and its not even endearing or cute. Her life revolved around him. Their life consists of dating other people to get a rise out of the other and make them jealous in order to see if the other feels the same way as they do. But Alex "moves on" and I say this loosely with Dean who she dates for a few years, but when Dean proposes, she can't give him an answer and decides to spend her summer with the best friend she's in love with. While hanging with Colton, Alex dresses all slutty, goes on a date with one of Colton's friends, and gets upset at all the girls that Colton has been with and is presently messing around with. Oh and did I mention her casual boob job. Yes, it is clear she got a boob job at 20 years old because Colton loves titties. And damn. All this girl wanted to do was have sex and talk about how horny looking at and touching Colton made her. She was always trying to get in his pants.

Colton is a dumbass in all his men-are-dumb-assholes glory. I did not like him. He thought it was ok to date girls and flaunt them around Alex, but got angry when she did the same. He had a girl giving him a blowjob while Alex was staying with him and she walks in on them. I will give him credit that he did everything to make things work when he decided to get his head out his ass.

So basically this book is about two people who don't know how to sit down and talk about their feelings and problems. They made assumptions and caused each other unnecessary pain. They are both severely immature. They played games and the jealousy was ridiculous. I didn't like either of these characters at all. I really wanted to like this book. I mean look at that amazing cover. The writing was ok, but I'm willing to read another book by this author. This book just wasn't for me at all.

    LOVE.

This four letter word is a common thread throughout Breakaway. Colton and Alexis have been best friends since the day they were born. Throughout their lives, Colton and Allie have been there for each other but each harbored a secret. A secret love that went beyond the lines of friendship.

Heather Orgeron has given us the perfect friends to lovers story full of love and passion from all angles. Through her storytelling, you are pulled into the families of Colton and Allie and thrust into their angst and young love. I adored each of the characters individually but when they were together, the undeniable connection oozed from the pages.

I found myself crushing on Colton. His love and commitment to Allie never faltered, it was his damn pigheadedness that kept them apart. And Allie, sweet Allie. Her lingering self-doubt that she was enough was almost her undoing. But, with all wonderful love stories, the came together as they were meant to, as their hearts were prepared for, and when the timing was right.

Breakaway has catapulted to one of my top reads of 2017.

This book OMG!!!! I actually grabbed this book because of the title. I thought it was about hockey, oh how wrong I was in a good way. I fell in love with the writing of Heather from her book Boomerangers. I have never laughed so hard that I cried. I was expecting that going into this book. Oh, no, I couldn't have been any more wrong than I was. No, now don’t get me wrong this book was an emotional rollercoaster of every kind. There was so much push and pull. This was a drama filled book with just the right amount of laughs to get you through the angst. It’s a beautiful story of life, growth, and love and not knowing until it is too late.

The beginning of the book gives you the background of their teen years and sets everything up. Alexis (Allie, Alex or Al, though, Al is only by Colt) and Colt were raised together. They are best friends that share everything. They go on family vacations and even have sleepovers. Alex starts to get those warm and fuzzy feelings that she has never had before. She also feels jealous when Colt starts to date. She is completely afraid it will mess everything up that they have between them. Colt is coming into his own and teenage boy hormones are kicking in. He fancies a girl and they play spin the bottle. That’s what sets off Alex jealousy, that she has never once felt before. Then we have some time jumps again not too bad. Alex is tired of waiting on the return of Colts feelings so she decides to move on. Colt introduces her to Dean, his friend. Now don't forget you have both Alex’s parents and Colt’s parents pushing them together, even when both of them say they are just friends.

These two even though so much time has passed they are still best friends and confide in each other. They know each other to their core. So it comes as a surprise to Colt, that Alex has been proposed too. This is where the story shifts gears again.

Colt and Alex are combustible and so fun to read. They get each other. They have a sense about them. So many great qualities about both of them. They are both passionate and love with their whole hearts. I loved Colt’s roommates. They were great. I even liked Dean. Both sets of parent are great. They loved pushing these two together.

Breakaway gives you a great well-rounded story with amazing people. There are some less desirable people in the story and I wanted a little bit more where that was concerned, but it was still great without that. I was rooting for them the entire time. Hoping and praying it would all work out. I could go on and on but I am not. You have to just read it for yourself.

Loved this book from page one to the last. Go read it. You won't be sorry. Heather, you did an amazing job with this journey for Alex and Colt. I would love to read Blex!! That is a subtle hint.

I have to preface this review by saying there are some ridiculously amazing one liners that kill me so much that I can't use them here. I want you to enjoy the delivery as much as I did. So just know I'm still laughing, snorting, and shaking my head while I type this.

Breakaway is the ultimate best friends/boy next door fantasy romance. It is the same angsty dream I had. Yes, I was the dorky teen that wanted my childhood bestie to fall for me and sweep me off my feet. Two problems though, one I didn't have a dude childhood bestie and two that isn't what happens here.

I could feed you a lot of hearts and flowers and tell you how sweet this book is but you are better off reading it. Because with friends like these you will be hooked.

And then you will be able to tell be whose are better...lol. Gonna die laughing over that for a long time!

I loved this book. It had some moments that I wanted to jump in the book and wring both characters necks at certain points and other moments where I just wanted to hug them. There were also parts that had me laughing hysterically. The main characters and secondary characters were all great and the banter between them was all perfectly written. This is a definite must read.

5 BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY STARS!! What a beautiful journey this author takes us on, from babies to young adulthood. Alexis and Colton are on a emotional rollercoaster that has all the feels for a fantastic story. This is my first book by Heather M. Orgeron and I am so excited to read more. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I absolutely loved Alex and Colton! I had all the feels reading this book. There is so much packed into this book. It’s funny, sweet, and sexy all at the same time. I’m pretty sure Heather is a sorceress because her skill with words and characters is magic!

  • Jo Overfield

This book was beyond amazing. It had so many layers to it.

Be prepared to experience a complete set of emotions. This book will take you high, it will take you low, it will take you in between, but you will cherish each and every level of emotion, and feeling you experience.

These two are friends who’ve taken this journey to the other side. The unknown, the desired, but feared.

Colt and Allies adventure will stay with you for along time. A book you’ll NEVER forget.

I couldn’t tear my eyes away, each and every word was perfect. Each and every moment was right, even if it made you scream, or cry, or laugh, or smile or want to get mad, it fit perfectly.

In the end I realized I’d become so close to these two, and the entire story, I had a hard time letting go.

The characters were so alive, and each with their own personality. I felt virtually in the scene with them.

Colt was the perfect guy for everyone. I mean he had me from the first page. He made me speechless. Gorgeous, funny, talented,, and sexy.

Allie was witty, bright, beautiful, and every mans dream.

The banter and dialogue between the two, was written brilliantly.

In the end my heart was OWNED by Colt and Allie. This story touched me, and made me fall back on my bed, and sigh. Just OMG! I loved this book!

I voluntarily read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED Breakaway. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite kinds of stories to read. Breakaway did not disappoint. The book starts with us finding out that Colt and Alexis (aka Alex or Allie) are best friends and have been since birth. Their mothers were also best friends. The mothers just know that Alex and Colt are destined to be together, but it takes a while for things to come together for the couple. Sometimes the book was hard for me to read. I hated seeing one of the two with another person of the opposite sex. Broke my heart while at the same time breaking a little piece of their best friends heart as well. Alex and Colt truly are the best of friends. They’re always there for one another when needed. They each love the other completely. So much so, that when they each realize what they feel is deeper than the love of a best friend they’re scared to admit it. They don’t want to mess up their relationship. I enjoyed watching their friendship blossom into a loving relationship. I think this author did a very good job writing this story. It’s honeslty one of the few books that I wish I could reread for the first time. I highly recommend d this story to everyone who enjoys a good, well written angsty friends to lovers story.

Best friends to lovers is a storyline that I love. Breakaway by Heather M. Orgeron follows Alexis and Colton on their journey to HEA. Ms. Orgeron’s writing is always spot on and this book is no different. She brings their story to life page by page, chapter by chapter with an outstanding storyline.

While the book is sexy and sweet, it will have you wanting to throw your kindle across the room with frustration. But you’ll want to hold on to it to get to the end of this story.
