Working for megastar Jeremy Gray has taken an emotional toll on personal assistant Kyle Winchell. In the name of self-preservation, he re-locates to New York City and accepts a job as personal assistant to well-respected concert cellist Caressa Gallo, only to find she's not as respectable as she seems.

Kyle draws on his BDSM experience to control the rebellious Caressa, and she is happy to submit to his management—to a point. The two soon find themselves embroiled in a world of lust and dark inspiration, and emotional stakes beyond anything they’ve encountered before.

This novel contains BDSM elements and is approximately 70K words in length.

Caressas Knees (Comfort, #2) Reviews

One of the best erotic romances I have read. I just loved it!!! I really will take the time soon to write a more detailed review, but I wanted to make sure until then, those perusing knew what a great story this is.

It is an extra full-length novel at almost 70K words about Kyle from Comfort Object. Remember Kyle, Jeremy's assistant who found Nell, and had the privelege of sharing Nell when Jeremy commanded? Kyle the poor Texas boy who was infatuated with the girl he found for Jeremy? Who took a bullet for her? That poor boy finally got his own tale. And it is yummy!!

This is defintely on my "good first BDSM" recommended book shelf. There aren't any sex clubs in this story, or public displays or even sharing. It isn't about humiliation or anything extreme. This is a very private experience and frankly, Kyle never comes right out and uses the terms 'lifestyle' or 'BDSM' with Caressa. The Dominance and submission aspect are just part of the way they express their love/lust/needs.

Caressa is a 20 year old mess who really needs some control in her life. Kyle gives her that. Kyle has this huge heart and protective instinct, God bless him.

Caressa was a child prodigy on the cello. She's always lived in an adult world, but it is now as she approaches her 21st birthday and the completion of a tour that will define her career, that she is finally growing up and into her own. To do that she has to face her own demons.

Kyle somehow always gets himself tangled in disfunctional relationships. But Caressa is not Jeremy or Nell. He's got clarity and inner strength he didn't have before, and he sees something amazing in Caressa, something that makes her endearing even as she pouts like a brat and struggles to define herself. Not that I didn't want to smack him upsidethehead a couple of times. If you read CO, you remember Jeremy throwing the books in the fire? Well, Kyle can be just as much of an ass in my opinion. (And I still love him to death.) He has demons of his own and it takes concious effort each day to not slide down that slippery slope.

Jeremy does make appearances in the book, as does Nell. It is great to see how they are doing and how much the two of them have changed. They are more like cameo appearances.

Goodness, that was rambly. OK friends, pick this one up. You will love it, I promise. Only the most conservative of us will flinch. Those who like the door to shut and the sex to be implied. But, I am thinking most of my friends list is going to just adore this one. It is a great story, with complex, rich, interesting characters, perfect pacing and serious chemistry.

I've been waiting for this one since I Comfort Object. I deeply enjoyed that book, but it has nothing on this one. I was prepared to love Kyle. He was a supporting character in Comfort Object, but what I wasn't prepared for was seeing a character like Caressa in romance novel. Difficult. Unruly. Hard to know and understand because she doesn't know herself, yet. God, I understood that character. I am that character sometimes. Love and age have tempered me, but reading this book brought me close that self I used to be. I know I'm ranting on about myself and not the book, but that's the beauty of this woman's work. Annabel Joseph reaches deep inside and forces her characters and her readers to confront things they might not want to. It's the first book that's made me cry in a long time and I believe it's because of the deeply personal reaction I had to it. I think anyone who reads this book with an open heart can find a piece of themselves here. I can't think of a better recommendation to give a book.

I love how, at least in Annabel Joseph books, that everyone involved in the performing arts has a serious kink going on in private.

This is Kyle’s story – Kyle’s was Jeremy’s PA from Comfort Object. He found Nell for him, shared Nell with him, fell hard for her and ultimately took a bullet for her. Nell, of course, is deeply in love with Jeremy and we start this story with Kyle on a downwards spiral of drink and drugs unable to get over his infatuation with Nell.

After a brief stint in rehab, paid for by Jeremy, Kyle takes a position as a PA to Caressa – a precocious, talented young cellist. She is a Diva with a capital D, her highly volatile personality having been shaped by tragedy, guilt and massive talent and all the expectations that go along with it. She is totally f*cked up and is a total bitch and a brat.

Kyle soon recognises submissive tendencies in Caressa and he learns to control her moods and calm her with dominance. For the entire story, Caressa threw major tantrums, would send Kyle away, take him back – I have absolutely no idea what he saw in her and why he stuck it out but he does because he’s deeply in love with her, as she is with him.

So, I enjoyed this story just because I loved Kyle so much but I would much rather have seen him with Nell. I didn’t care for Caressa and her spoilt brat tendencies and the issues that dogged them as a couple throughout the story were never resolved and I can’t understand how they went from warring to HEA but it is very romantic. I guess Caressa found that she couldn’t do without him. Kyle is a caring and nurturing dom – there’s no sharing, no clubs, no humiliation and it’s quite a different story from Comfort Object. I had to laugh how Jeremy is now a wise old sage giving Kyle relationship advice. Nice to see him and Nell and where they’re at now.

This was my first book by Annabel Joseph. As I was reading the synopsis, it called to me...... I was a music major in college, and I always love reading books that have a strong musical content. This one did not disappoint!

I adore the way Caressa compared her relationship with Kyle in musical terms. While that might be frustrating for someone who isn't familiar with the terms, it really worked for me. The story is filled with both tender and frustrating moments. I could sympathize with Caressa and the stress she felt before a concert. I could also understand the frustration of her aunt and Kyle concerning Caressa's moods.

I can't say enough good things about this book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. The story had a very nice HEA - and then it had an Epilogue. If it is possible, the Epilogue made the HEA even better. I only wish Annabel had called it a Coda, in keeping with the other musical terms used throughout the book.

    4.5 stars!

”You’re like something running through my fingers, that I keep grabbing at.”

This is the third book I’ve read in this 4-book series. So far, they’ve all had a very different tone with characters that vary in personality and desires. Odalisque was enjoyable because of more than the kink, whereas Comfort Object was pretty kink-driven. This one, though? There was BDSM, but it was probably the most “vanilla” in that there were no multiple partners or other... public acts. It was more emotional, and I mean that in a good way. Annabel Joseph is fast becoming a go-to author for me, especially when I’m in the mood for something different (read: kinky, lol).

He wanted connection, and he felt like connecting with her would be like weaving himself into a tapestry. An incredibly involved and lengthy process, but one which might produce a masterpiece.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about Kyle as a hero, because I viewed him as a tad pathetic in Object. Luckily, my opinion quickly changed because he changed, and that was believable simply because all he had to do was get sober. Did he shift his obsessive tendencies to Caressa? Yeah, maybe, but staying sober isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about channeling those behaviors into something that isn’t destructive. Plus, he seemed to always put Caressa first. He adored her. It’s a testament to the author that their relationship was believable, considering he was both her personal assistant and dominant (though he definitely isn’t an intense Dom by any means). Kyle ended up being a lot more sensitive and emotional that I expected, but totally in a good way. Really, I’m so glad he got his own story!

He’d wanted truth, and he’d gotten it in all its raw glory. She was desperate. She was enslaved to a talent she couldn’t control. She was drowning and she didn’t have a life vest.

On the other hand, Caressa took more time to warm up to. At first she comes off as your typical spoiled, eccentric artist... and that’s not entirely untrue. But she also has been through a lot, and has dealt with it in her own way (not unlike Kyle). She has also been incredibly sheltered, while living in a world that revolves around her. So, it’s hard to blame her for the way she acts, because she never knew any different. I loved how Kyle was so in tune with her, that he knew exactly what she needed and when she needed it (sexually and emotionally), because until he came along, everything in her life had always been about being a cellist. So much so that she didn’t really know who she was outside of that. It was incredibly rewarding to watch her come into her own with him at her side, even if the road was bumpy at times. He made her brave, and she was able to match his emotional intensity, which he craved even if he didn’t realize it. Finally, these two actually laughed and had a lot of fun together, which made me feel their connection. It was more than physical; they shared a kinship that is beyond description.

As much as he fought it, he was a sucker for the wild ones. As soon as he’d climbed into the limo that first day, as soon as his eyes fell on her, he’d felt an attraction he hadn’t wanted to admit. Not just a physical attraction, either. He wanted to help her. He wanted to protect her. Okay, and fuck her.

Honestly, this book is a very well-written, semi-kinky read. There is a LOT of sex- which, duh, it’s Annabel Joseph- but it is also very heartfelt and emotionally deep. I would even recommend it as a good “intro to BDSM” story, because the scenes are intimate without being elaborate or physically intense. Also, Caressa and Kyle are 100% monogamous. (I personally can get behind a swapping or sharing kink, but it wouldn’t have worked in this story- like at all). Also- the stories in this series do NOT have to be read in order. So, if you’re on the fence with this series, this is definitely a good one to start with!

There was a line of gold expanding at the edge of darkness that had threatened her so long. Daybreak. Or sunset.

UGH. I hate this book! Wait... Did I just said it? Yep.

    description

It didn't meet my expectation like the previous one. I thought if I'm moving on in this series, I will find more interesting story. Is it? I'm not quite sure. Caressa's Knees in the second book in Comfort series that disappointed me so deep. It's about Jeremy Gray's assistant story to meet his true love.

Slumped in sadness and broken heart, Kyle Winchell has messed up his perfect life. But Jeremy is not only his boss, but his best friend, he helped Kyle recover and find him a job. Kyle has back and risen up being the his old self. Gorgeous and charming. The job involve to be another assistant for a famous violinist, Caressa Gallo. Apparently, she's not that easy he thought to be. Caressa has problems and temper. She barricade herself with music and no social life. Kyle has to prove himself and her that he's worth it.

First, I loved Kyle. Really. He's the most perfect man so far. He's better person and respectable man than Jeremy, his former boss *cough*. His job is to 'babysit' Caressa who is uncontrollable for 20 years old woman. Kyle is the most charming and kind person because in the previous book, he didn't show it. He did all dirty job for Jeremy but now, it's time for him to shine. To have the spotlight. If it's not because of him, I really wanna DNF this book.

"Caressa. I can play you, if you let me. Let's make music, you and me." She swallowed, never doubting for a moment he could do it. In this type of music, he was a maestro. "But I like to be the conductor," he continued. "Can you understand that? I like to be the one setting the tempo. I want to be the musician, doing the phrasing."

Second, Caressa is annoying beyond everything. I have emotional roller coaster with this woman. Sometimes I feel pity about her condition, another she's a bitch. She throws tantrum like a child. She never respect people. Shortly, she's a spoiled brat with mood problem. I think she has bipolar disorder? Argh. Shortly, I hate her. I couldn't stand when she goes all sweet and sexy with Kyle when she wants something. Sex. If she's in devil mode, she always blame Kyle for some unreasonable things.

Last but not least, Kyle is the one who make me survived this book. Otherwise, I will throw it away. Kyle deserve better but yeah, he stand up for this woman. His unconditional love towards Caressa made me all gooey. Being Jeremy's assistant, he knows a trick of BDSM but he could be vanilla too. When Caressa needs discipline and punishment, Kyle use BDSM in bedroom. I kinda liked it. It's well balanced relationship. And Thank's God, there is no swinger or swapping partner. I still can give this 2 stars despite my hate for the heroine and slightly boring story because Caressa's moody shitty attitude. I enjoy everything about Kyle. He success deliver his charm and affection to me. Overall, Caressa's Knees isn't an enjoyable read for me. It's hard and frustrated me somehow. So, let's move on to the third book.

Caressa's Knees is a tale of exquisite music and exorcising personal demons. Nice character trajectories for both Caressa and Kyle make for a rich experience. Both protagonists are battling back the darkness. One is further along and dragging the other, but it is still a challenge. Painful to watch at times, and though some will see it as weak or whiny I find that assessment shallow. The torment is real, perhaps not expressed in ways some will understand or recognize, but still valid.

My take away from Ms. Joseph is that she believes people in the Arts are f-ed up mental cases. Since I'm more into the Sciences, I'd have to agree with her. Yet another Ms. Joseph's main characters is into the Arts and is a complete emotional cripple. On top of Caressa's psychological problems, she's a hysterical drama queen. Right... this is the type of woman I'd like to relate to... NOT! Kyle is too good for her. Caressa should have been put out of her misery. I'd have shoved her off the roof – good riddance to bad rubbish.

I think Kyle was too easy on her. He should have disciplined Caressa harsher. Spare the rod; spoil the child. Caressa's immaturity and her past is no excuse for her diva like antics. I'm not sure why Kyle loves her, she isn't worth his love. She really has nothing to offer. Kyle is put through the wringer trying to help her. I only have a few things to say to Kyle. Drop her; save yourself; you deserve better. Nell should have fell for you.

I'm still going to read Ms. Joseph's stories because they are so addictive. I guess I'm more like Kyle and Nell. I wonder what that says about me.

I definitely liked this book better than the first one, moreso because I like Kyle eleventy billion times more than Jeremy. This book is mostly sex, sex, sex...with a little bit of story thrown in. If nothing else, Annabel Joseph sure can write some BDSM!!!! After reading a lot of this style of book, I'm thinking the sadism aspect of BDSM I just don't get or find all that schmexy. I do love me a dominant man though!!! And Kyle really was kind of swoony - I mean, he fixed her hair for her. What man does that???

Caressa´s Knees is the sequel of Annabel Josephs Comfort Object. When we finished COMFORT OBJECT we weren´t really up for another abusive story. BUT,…..since we´re strong believers in reading a series to the bitter end, we gave CARESSA´S KNEES a chance. And guess what? It wasn´t as bad as we thought it would be. 

To be honest…..we actually thought this book was a good read. Oh the story still had more than enough sex scenes in it ( some we thought were hot and some we made awkward faces at)… But all in all…..it was a simple read. Lets not forget to mention that the main characters from the first book were also in this one. But this time we were spared from their *cough cough* fucked up fucking.
We´d say that CARESSA´S KNEES was rather delightful. That is…if you can call something like trying to be like your Boss delightful.
So…..this is where the story begins….
Jeremy´s personal assistant Kyle ( who we´ve met in the first book VERY well *wink wink*) lived like a bum. Ever since he realized that Penelope and Jeremy we really a steady couple, he started being miserable. Lots of drinking, drugs, and living like a rat made Kyle lose his job as the actors PA. Now Kyle is without a job. Can his life suck any more than it already does? Lets see….He lost the woman he loves ( Penelope) and he got fired without even knowing it. We´d say his life was one big pile of shit. But his former Boss, and still good friend Jeremy gets Kyle a job, so all should be good, right? No….sorry. That’s not really how this story works. Lol.
Kyle was able to sniffle a little bit into the exciting world of BDSM ( thanks to ass-hat Jeremy) so he kind of really liked the scene, even if he didn´t know how the world of pleasure and pain really worked. His new boss, Caressa, is a Diva in every possible way! Normally, we would have liked her character a lot ( we Divas stick together) but not this one. This Diva was such a pain in the ass. And that’s how Kyle saw her too. Just a sometimes beautifu sometimes dull lookingl celloist, with some really terrible Diva issues! Uugh….we will confess that reading about Caressa was exhausting because we were really close to smacking her backside ourselves! Not even a mother of five children would put up with Caressas crap! So, our patience was running on thin ice with her. Not a likeable character at all! And Kyle….well, he needed the job and found other ways to deal with the Diva. Haha….so, behind closed doors, Kyle let out his Dom side and taught Caressa a lesson or two and in public….Caressa acted like the brat she was. But like we said…..this story was nothing like the first book. It was * dear Lord…..please, do not let the ceiling fall on our heads for saying this* a romance. Not your typical romance….but still….it had a few moments that were super romantic…like the end. All we´re saying about the romantic part is : fireflies…… ( aren´t fireflies always romantic??
The Divas are giving CARESSA´S KNEES a 2 from 5 Champagne glasses.

Originally I wasn’t a fan of the comfort series, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for BDSM books, but book one, Comfort Object was just a bit too extreme for me. I thought Jeremy was a jerk and a bit harsh at times and Nell was just too eager to please, but that was book 1 and it went by fairly quickly for me. Why did I decide to start book 2, Caressa’s Knee’s, it was just there. I was pleasantly surprised on how much more I liked this book than Comfort Object.

I liked Kyle, although I thought the author made him more in love with Nell, than what he actually was, but that’s the story of the book. Kyle goes into the deep end because he can’t get over Nell. Jeremy kind of helps Kyle get cleaned up and helps Kyle get a job by being Caressa’s assistant. I am not a fan of Caressa, even after it’s explained why she is the way she is, I still couldn't be on her side. She is too needy, childish and just down what selfish.

Sometimes I felt like this is what the book was about, Caressa has a tantrum, Kyle calms her down, she likes it and then right when everything is good, Caressa has a tantrum again and thus begin the cycle. It was a bit annoying, but Kyle is so sweet, I kind of just over looked Caressa’s personality. This book was a lot tamer than book 1, which I liked, but it still had everything you were looking for, so in the end, it was a decent read.

After reading the previous books in this series I was not too keen on reading Caressa's Knees. Indeed, I put it off for a long, long time. It was only because the story was about Kyle that I finally gave in and picked it up.

Caressa's Knees was difficult to read but not in the same way as Comfort Object. Comfort Object rubbed, ripped and tore me the wrong way. I felt it was abusive. Caressa's Knees was difficult because the main character was a diva in every sense of the word - she was not likable. Indeed, at times I found myself wickedly wishing that Jeremy would show up to give her a dose of his medicine. Kyle's patience with the simpering, needy Caressa went above and beyond the call of duty but isn't that often how it goes with love?

Love prevails. No bittersweet HEA here. Only the soft flicker of fireflies and the lovely tones of a cello to play you through to the last page.

3.5 Comfort Object is by far one of my all time favorite reads. I never really was endeared by Kyle in CO but thought I would take a chance on Caressa's Knees, I do love Annabel.

The story was really good. I enjoyed the music aspect and the fact that this was erotica with a great plot. I just didn't love the h/h the way I did with Jeremy and Nell. I was also reminded of one of my all time favorite books with BDSM and a heroine who plays a string instrument.
Patience (Passion Quartet, #2) by Lisa Valdez I think the struggle with being consumed by ones art is better told in Patience.

It was nice to get a look into Jeremy and Nell's lives. I LOVED the new addition to the family! Her name sigh.....

Caressa's Knees is toned down on the sex compared with other Joseph works that I read and loved. But what we get is good!

Overall a really good story I just didn't love it. But well worth the read.

    Such a different book from
Comfort Object! A significantly darker emotional story with more romance and less kink than the first. I had wondered what Kyle's story might be since he was so obviously not a sadist in the first book like Jeremy and really played the part of "rescuer" so well. Now I know and I don't think his story could have been told any differently since
Caressa’s Knees really hit on all his strengths as a character; patience, strength, kindness and "knight in shiny armour"ness. Caressa is a bit of a damaged damsel who's wild mood swings were a little off putting, but finally understandable as the story progressed. I think, in the end, they saved themselves as much as each other and that makes for a very happy ending.

  • I.Am.Reader

This is the second book in the Comfort Series, Kyle's story. I love Kyle. His character was introduced in Book 1 as the third wheel in Jeremy and Nell's relationship. I loved his character and hoped that he would find his own HEA. Unfortunately, this book did not deliver. Carissa's neurotic tendencies were just too much and it was very difficult to connect with her. Her immaturity, impulsiveness, rudeness and overall bratty attitude were so overwhelming. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in her personality.
Furthermore, Kyle was introduced in Book 1 not as a true Dom. He was intrigued with the idea but never really learned the ways of a true Dom. I think more could be said about how his dominant attitudes came about. Carissa's character as a submissive also could have been explored and developed further.
I love the author and her style of writing. I will continue to support her work. Unfortunately, this book just didn't work for me.

4.5. Beautifully written, intelligent story of a sheltered, orphaned, out of control cello prodigy finding love and self control. Yes it was a sequel, but SO different from the first. Kyle was worthy of love, it was Caressa who was difficult, but very often that is how these prodigies are, especially ones with no parents to ground them.

This one was definitely not as heavy on the kink, at all. So those of you wanting more, this may not be the place. It was light on the BDSM compared to the first, and would be very OK for a beginner getting into this genre, whereas the first one was not at all.

I really enjoyed this book, while steamy it was a great story of some of the struggles of this musical genius.

  • Becca

    This story was sweeter than
Comfort Object and less kinky too. Actually, I'm not sure that's true but the kinky aspects took a back seat to the relationship in this one.

I enjoyed seeing Kyle get something good for himself after his third-wheel status in Comfort Object. He certainly earned his HEA after working for Jeremy Gray! I'm ambivalent about Caressa being a good HEA for Kyle, she's quite the mess. An understandable mess, but still someone I would steer well clear of. She was one very lucky young woman to get Kyle, that's for sure. :)

  • Bella Andre

Joseph does an incredible job of writing about Caressa Gallo, a talented but emotionally damaged cellist, and Kyle Winchell, the personal assistant/bodyguard who can't help but want to heal her. Plus, the end of this book has one of the most beautiful wedding scenes I've ever read in which fireflies play the starring role. Anyone who enjoyed the Fifty Shades books should dive into Annabel Joseph's books, which feature amazingly emotional, heartfelt and sizzling-hot BSDM scenes in addition to the fantastic romance. Be sure to have tissues ready.

Still love Kyle. Could not get into Caressa at all. I think her earlier behavior just wigged me out too much. I just could not connect to her at all and I cringed everytime she would do some strange weird thing. It's rare that I have this happen - and it may be a more personal thing to me IDK. The writing, as always, is fantastic..some of the best in BDSM today. Love the author - have loved all the other books. I'll def. continue reading her!

  • jac

I loved Comfort Object and was keen to read Kyle's story. I liked his character transition as he struggled to find himself post Jeremy and Nell, but I didn't quite get why he fell for Caressa and her bratty behaviour so quickly. She was such a different sub to Nell and we really didn't see her grow up. I found it very hard to like her and root for her and Kyle to get their HEA. But for all of my issues with Caressa, I really like Ms Joseph's writing.

Kyle's story was really sweet and I am happy he has his HEA. Caressa may never realize his true value, but I thought she grew a bit in the book. Kyle was able to figure out how to maintain a delicate balance with her like no one else ever could. You must read
Comfort Object prior to this book, so that you understand Kyle's past. I'm proud of Kyle for embracing his inner dom-ness.

[...]Que Redención es una novela ligera, donde él es contratado por ella o más bien por la tía de ella para que haga de "canguro/ayudante personal/chico para todo" y ocurre lo que debe ocurrir: la CHISPA se convierte en INCENDIO.[...]

I loved Kyle's story. Using a classical musical prodigy as the heroine was a stroke of genius. My Texas heart was thrilled to see my home state through fresh eyes. So many things to like in this story and, oh yeah... There was plenty of kinky stuff too.

Beautiful romance story under a light BDSM scenes.

Annabel Joseph has an awesome writing style that would drown you into the story.

As always with Annabel Joseph, this is fantastic. Very well-written and surprisingly more romance than I was expecting:)
