The Isle of Ghiant has had no permanent inhabitants since the early 1960s, so when a fisherman discovers the freshly dumped body of a woman there, the case baffles the detective in charge.
The body is identified as that of a high-ranking ex-cop. The pressure to solve the case intensifies. DCI Dani Bevan knew the victim. DI Juliet Lowther was her first boss as a young detective, starting out her career in Glasgow.
The case requires Dani to re-evaluate her past, as a catalogue of shocking secrets emerge that will change the way she views everything that went before.
The Dark Isle is the tenth book in the DCI Dani Bevan detective series.

Gruesome Secrets Of The Dark Isle

The Dark Isle—Book #10 of a new-to-me police procedural series featuring DCI Dani Bevan—is surprisingly well-plotted for a short novel. The harsh, isolated setting of the Small Isles off the Scottish Coast is rather unique, and the characters (even the dead) are well-developed.
The story flowed organically from the murder of a long-retired DI who Dani worked with, then on to discoveries about the shocking events of summer 2006, and finally on to the killer, who wasn’t named until page 190 or so. I had in mind a not-yet-named suspect early on, but I read on to the reveal. All the threads were tied up at the denouement.

I've now read all 10 of the Dani Bevan books. i enjoyed them all, however i did find some of the plots quite complicated, and a couple of them were definitely 'out there'! i liked the fact that the characters we met in the early books stayed and the relationships between them all were expanded on. not as much procedural writing as i'd have liked but would definitely recommend them.

    Another cracking read

Really enjoying this series of books. They're well written, the stories are engaging and the characters fleshed out nicely. Do read them from the start, it's a great series and one I'm looking forward to continuing to read more of.

    It was ok

This book was ok . I wasn't gripped by it .There were a couple of strange characters who featured strongly then disappeared ? Didn't engage me particularly and didn't induce me to read more by the author . S?right!y disappointing .

    The ending is rushed

Good reading right to the end, then it felt rushed, and a bit disjointed. The plot didn't quite gel. Still a good series.
