Ever heard of someone celebrating New Year’s Eve by committing murder? Well, it happened, and the killer is now looking for DeeDee!

That’s the situation DeeDee found herself in after the very successful New Year’s Eve party she catered for Dana Donnelly, the popular hostess of the Seattle television entertainment show, New Day NW. The successful party quickly became a distant memory when Dana was found murdered near her pool house. It didn’t help that the murderer was certain they’d been spotted by DeeDee, and she could identify the killer.

DeeDee had ended her relationship with, Jake, her PI boyfriend, so she had no one to turn to for help when the killer sent her a threatening note telling her to keep quiet or she’d be the next victim. Her sister, Roz, calls on Al De Duca to help. He’s a retired enforcer for the mob who’s afraid of spiders and the open ocean, but has a heart of gold. Can he make it back from the Cayman Islands in time to prevent DeeDee’s murder?

But just who was Dana’s murderer? Dana’s spurned billionaire shipping magnate and longtime lover? His jealous wife? Dana’s husband who has a serious gambling addiction? Her television substitute who desperately wants her job? Or the television star she outed when she disclosed his sordid past on her show?

It becomes a race against time to see if Al, her Mafia bodyguard, can find the murderer before DeeDee becomes the next victim. Fortunately, her estranged boyfriend, Jake, and her loyal husky, Balto, are there to help Al, but will it be enough?

From USA Today Bestselling Author and seven-time Amazon All-Star comes the 4th book in the popular page-turning Northwest Cozy Mystery series. As always, there’s plenty of food and mouth-watering recipes!

Murder After Midnight (Northwest Cozy Mystery, #4) Reviews

I trust a dogs intuition--especially when it comes to people. They seem to know who are the good guys and who the bad with just a glance! So when DeeDee's Husky adored Al De Duca, a retired enforcer for the mob-(his boss for many many years had been killed which is why he retired)-I knew he was essentially a good guy. He first appeared in Murder in Seattle) where he helped DeeDee solve a murder and exonerate her daughter's new husband. Now he lives in the Cayman's. He is trying to learn how to swim but he is afraid of water--yeah this big frightening man is petrified of water and don't let him see a spider. He was living peacefully with his red Doberman when he received a phone call----

DeeDee and Jake had just broken up. DeeDee had a big New Year's Eve catering job for a very famous television personality. The party was a total success. DeeDee cleaned up--put the remaining items in her car and sat for a while when suddenly she saw someone running straight at her car! The person turned and ran in another direction. The next day DeeDee found a note under her wind shield wipers threatening her life! It seems the hostess of the party was found dead near the pool house and the murderer thought DeeDee had seen who it was. Jake was no longer there to help her! Her daughter, just home from her honeymoon finds out and calls Jake who calls Al---Al made it to DeeDee's house that evening--no easy feat.

Now--they have to figure out who the murderer is. So many suspects--but with Al on the case DeeDee was safe. Somehow Al is also trying to figure out how to get Jake and DeeDee back together while tracking down the murderer--and there is someone he is really interested in getting to know better as well. This big lug is one of the most lovable characters!

There is a recipe at the back of this book that I would love to try--but I fear there is no way I would be able to make it. All the recipes sound delicious--but that Chocolate Tiramisu Cake Recipe----------------

I enjoyed this book. There is a lot of drama packed into the story with the two main characters having a disagreement but that actually worked well for the plot because it meant Al the ex Mob boss's bodyguard (who we meet in the previous book) could play a bigger role in this investigation. He is such a tough guy but one with a big heart that makes it so much fun, especially as you can picture him getting dragged in for a manicure. The mystery was good and kept me guessing. It was just a good who done it type of mystery told by multiple characters. The type of story that plays well as a film on the hallmark channel.
DeeDee finds herself working a New Years eve party as a cater instead of spending it with her boyfriend Jake. In fact the party is the reason the two of them have split up. So the last thing she wants to happen is to wake up the next morning to the news that she might be the only witnesses to the man fleeing the house after he just killed the hostess. DeeDee can't identify him but the threatening note left on her car proves the killer thinks otherwise. Will a gun and a dog be enough protection? Ex boy friend Jake doesn't think so but he also knows that DeeDee won't let him be her knight in shinning armour. So he and her sister back a plan to keep her safe, by hiring Al De Duca to help, a retired enforcer for the mob, who might be afraid of spiders but knows how to get the job done. Can be keep DeeDee safe? Especially as DeeDee is trying to protect herself by looking into the murder.
I like the narrator. She does a good job with the characters voices and helps recreate the story in front of your eyes.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

    "Murderer On The Run"

After having a very successful New Year Eve party, Dana Donnelly is found murdered near her pool house. The murderer feels someone witnessed the killing, and he believes it is Dee Dee who catered the New Year Eve's party. He is after her and sends her threatening notes. Since her relationship faded with Jake, her private investigative boyfriend, she relies on Al, her now mafia bodyguard. This is a fast-paced, entertaining cozy mystery to occupy you while kicked back relaxing. You'll enjoy this story very much. It's very exciting.

This is the 4th in the series. The main character is DeeDee and after a break up fight with Jake, she caters a New years party for Dana . When Dana is murdered right as she is leaving , DeeDee is scared for her life. Someone things she knows more than she does. Without Jake around a new friend comes to help keep an eye on DeeDee. Al and Jake figure it out before DeeDee does and are there to help her. Will they be in time.

Short read, with plenty of red herrings. The author actually rather lines all these up for the reader as the book progresses, but you know it's one of them. No guessing about some minor character, etc.
I enjoy these as a light, change of pace read. It may help readers to understand some of the regular characters' motivations if you've read the earlier volumes in the series.

Recipes included in the back (the main character runs a catering business). I definitely copied one to try...

This is one terrific book !!

This is very well written in the manner that all of Dianne Harman's book are. This is an amazing story that has murder, high elements of fear, and some laughter and love. Dianne Harman is one of my favorite authors and I look forward to her next book. This is definitely a. 5-star plus read.

    The latest is the best!

Once you start to read Dianne’s books, you have to continue! It’s easy to get involved with the main characters and their lives, and reading the next book gives you a look at what new things are happening. The plots are getting better as they are more complex and not easy to solve.

Another great cozy mystery love this series

DeeDee is a caterer by trade but murder follows her where ever she goes. This series is fun to read and try to solve before the author tells me I've come close but there is always a twist. If you are looking for a fast easy light read no bad language then this is the series for you.

In a lot of relationships two people have to realize that they have to include the other person in the decisions that are made and they have to compromise. Too many people feel like they are giving up their independence and no one has the right to make decisions for them. It is a learning process. Ms Harman’s books are developing into much more than just a murder mystery. Really worth reading!!!

  • Gena - My Book Reviews for You

This mystery stars DeeDee and Jake (another one of my favorites)! Things are getting a little testy for DeeDee and Jake’s relationship. DeeDee caters a big New Year’s Eve party and the next day the host is found murdered. DeeDee may be in danger now. She even has a bodyguard around now to watch over her! I enjoyed the humor throughout and the storyline.

Like all her books, this was awesome! DeeDee owns a catering business, and after catering for a well know client, the client is found Murder. A very entertaining story, like all her books.

    Murder After Midnight

As with all of Dianne Harman‘s books she keeps you in suspense as too who the rear killer is. I also like the fact that I can read one of her books in an afternoon or an evening.

  • Patricia White

    Oh wow

Couldn’t put it down.. Since it was already in the summary, hate it DeeDee and Jake broke up. But it shows that they’re human and have issues like everyone else. Glad Al made a reappearance. I like him. Recipes were great.

    DeeDee Wilson

Another great Dianne Harman read. I am never disappointed. Dianne gives the reader a few insights as to who could be the killer. And then wraps it all up neatly. And I love the recipes at the end.
