Growing up in a small seaside town, Marcie Brooks dreams of owning a Mary Quant mini-skirt, the Beatles, and escape. Instead she's stuck in a dead-end job selling candy floss to tourists and with a crazy family. Her grandmother sees ghosts, her step-mother is unable to control her growing family and Marcie's father is usually in and out of prison or away 'working' for East End gangsters. Despite it all, Marcie adores her father, but Tony's light fingers and hard man reputation mean most people give the Brooks family a wide birth. Sometimes Marcie even wishes she had a respectable dad like her friend Rita; well-groomed, wealthy by local standards and surprisingly attentive to a teenage girl. But when she discovers Tony may have had something to do with her real mother's death, Marcie finds her friend's father is more than just a shoulder to cry on. Mia Dolan's novels will appeal to all saga readers, especially fans of Katie Flynn.

This was my first from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am about to start the next period in Marcie's life.

I kinda liked this book tho I am giving it only 3 stars because I was frustrated at times. The book is portraying Marcie brooks(the protagonist) as young and naïve when in reality she was just straight up stupid sometimes. Now listen I am not saying I am a genius and to be honest I was quite naïve at sixteen but Marcie... I rolled my eyes at several of her thoughts and actions.

This is the 1st book to wishing and hoping and it tells the story of woman called Marcie brooks and how she found love with a bloke called Johnnie and he was into motorbikes and she had a friend called Rita who sold her the after pill but it turned out just to be aspirins and then she finds out she's having a baby but the friends dad drugs her drinks and he raped her so she don't know who the baby's father is so she says it's that Johnnie's but things take a turn for the worst because the bloke she has falling in love with dies in motorbike accident so he parents try to get Marcie to adopt her baby because she isn't married I know i have a lot away with this book but it was a very good read

  • Linda

I did enjoy this book but annoyed that this is a series so the book I have is the third in the series not the second, so now I have to wait till I get the second book before I can continue. Why don't the authors inform you when you buy the books that they are part of a series.

  • Carrie-louise Stanley
