WHO SAYS CHRISTMAS HAS TO BE COZY?

Christmas Eve, 1923

Prepare for tales of unexplained murders, long-concealed mysteries, strange visitors in the night, and a secret in Posie’s own past which haunts her to this very day…

Join Posie Parker, London’s premier female Private Detective, and Chief Inspector Lovelace of New Scotland Yard as they spend Christmas Eve at Rebburn Abbey, home of the Earl and Countess of Cardigeon. Each house guest is invited to share a personal mystery, but what unfolds turns out to be less a cozy cornucopia of fire-side Christmas cheer than a series of curiously interlinked and unsettling mysteries.

But then, who promised that any of the tales had to be cozy?

And could it be, even at Rebburn Abbey on Christmas Eve, that the past can overshadow the present, casting dangerous shadows on those who don’t suspect? Does danger and the presence of evil lurk here?

This is a stylish Golden Age of Crime mystery which will appeal to fans of Agatha Christie and Downton Abbey. 'A Christmas Case' is a novella in the Posie Parker Mystery Series, and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story in its own right.

What a Christmas Eve this is! L.B. Hathaway’s A Christmas Case, A Posie Parker Nouvella is intriguing and dynamic read. As the holiday season is upon us, I decided to grab this nouvella to read after Thanksgiving dinner, and I am very pleased I did. Posie and Chief Inspector Lovelace of New Scotland Yard decide to attend a gathering in Yorkshire at Rebburn Abbey. As the English are wont to be - the group appears eccentric and not quite right to Posie. The Chief Inspector also feels something is amiss. As the evening progresses, more odd events take place. As Posie retires after all the doings, there is a knock on her bedroom. As Posie opens her door, what paralyzing information is she about to hear? Very well done!

I liked the historical fiction aspects of this novella okay but the 'mystery' part of it was too fraught with coincidences (and basically no detection at all). Plus I didn't care for the little bit of paranormal that was slipped in.

  • Virginia Cruz

Way too heavy. Don't read this during christmas.

    random cliff hangers

was that cliff hanger at the end necessary? and it was all a strange bit of coincidence. i want to ask question but i don’t want to give things away. we need a discussion group.

I've been a fan of Posie Parker since I downloaded the first book.

For a novella, this certainly packs in a gripping storyline.

This is so good I'm going to go back to the beginning of the series and read them all again!

As the author says, this novella which is part of the Posie Parker female detective cosy historical mystery series pays "homage" to an Agatha Christie story which also has characters "gathered together at a party at Christmas, storytelling." It is not usually in the list in order of the Posie Parker novels and I stumbled on it by accident. Based on publication date, it comes between "The Murder of a Movie Star" and "Murder in Venice" but some details don't seem to fit and it actually should be read AFTER "Murder in Venice." It gives more details about Posie's past, and we can only hope that more information will be forthcoming.

This novella features Posie Parker, a private detective in 1920's London. She is spending Christmas at Rebburn Abbey with friends, including Inspector Lovelace from New Scotland Yard.dde When guests are invited to share their stories of "personal mysteries," Christmas Eve suddenly turns dark. I enjoyed this novella, and I plan to read other books in the series. I enjoyed the main character, and I found the story interesting and unusual. Excellent holiday reading.

This Posie Parker cosy crime mystery was one of the best yet from L B Hathaway – a classic 1920s locked room mystery, complete with creepy dolls house and a historical mystery about a fire. Does a lot in a relatively few pages – I loved it. Get it now for curling up with at Christmas – a mystery that keeps you guessing and is quite thrilling.

    Highly recommended.

    A Christmas Case

Posie is spending Christmas with Rufus and Dolly in Yorkshire. Among the other guests is Inspector Lovelace. For various reasons this is one Christmas Posie won't forget in a hurry.
This Posie Parker Novella excavation read and contains many different themes. I found it a great read and a relaxing way to spend some time on Christmas Day.

    All Poise Parker series.

I have really enjoyed all of her books and will look forward to a new one soon. The characters are the same in most of her series which is a good thing to look forward too.

Locked Room Mystery with a twist

I enjoy Posie Parker and I would have given it a 5 star, but it was a bit grim for a Christmas mystery. But it's full of enough twists and turns to keep you reading. I look forward to her other adventures!

    Jolly Good Read

This is a good read, well written, atmospheric, and intriguing. What I enjoyed most was learning about the Parker family's unhappy past, and a new chapter in Posie's life.

  • Sheila

A lot of story packed into a novella. I enjoyed it.

  • Melissainau

I'm reading a lot of cosy crime at the moment. This is quite a nice series.

Good Read but a Little Confusing

There were parts of the story that seemed a little disconnected. I thought some of those things would be resolved.
