The dazzlingly brilliant Chris Riddell brings his magical illustration talents to J.K. Rowling’s gloriously inventive The Tales of Beedle the Bard in a fully illustrated colour edition of this essential classic for Harry Potter fans. Translated from the runes by Hermione Granger, the volume includes ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’, familiar to readers of Harry Potter from the crucial role it played in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Mischievous and witty, these five rollicking tales are a deeply satisfying read in the tradition of all great fables and fairytales. Kindnesses are rewarded and selfishness shown to be the ruin of many a wizard. Burping cauldrons, hairy hearts and cackling stumps are met along the way. Each of the tales is accompanied by a deliciously subversive and insightful commentary by Professor Albus Dumbledore, all brought vividly to life with Riddell’s trademark wit and elegance.
Former Waterstones Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell is the only illustrator to have won the Kate Greenaway Medal three times, and is brought together here for the first time with one of the world’s best loved storytellers in this new edition of J.K. Rowling’s fairytale classic.
Much loved by generations of witches and wizards since they first appeared in the fifteenth century, this beautifully illustrated edition is set to become a firm favourite at bedtime in non-magical households the world over.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is published in aid of Lumos, an international children’s charity founded in 2005 by J.K. Rowling.

4.5*
It’s been just over 10 years since I read these fairy tales for magic folk for the first time, and part of me wondered how the ‘illustration’ treatment was going to work... I’m happy to say that Riddell’s art is the perfect complement to Rowling’s text. In a way, these amazingly beautiful drawings give new life to the five stories. -
A Stunning new Illustrated Edition
It's the same 5 amazing tales of Beedle we've read, loved before and craving for more..
With the amazing insightful notes of Professor Dumbledore... enlightening facts and History from the Wizardring World.
The Stories I love the most are;The Fountain of Fair Fortune
It's smart one where Magic isn't always the magical solution,, also I love how everything wrapped beautify... as beautiful as this edition amazing artwork and beautiful huge poster inside.
Also the sad oneThe Warlock's Hairy Heart
Creepy and dark and push you to use your heart.... also the illustrations was as shocking as the tale.
And Dumbledore's notes on all the stories was really full with artworks that added depth to it.
and gives you more about Malfoy's family and even hint of Voldemort.
The Bloomsbury's edition (UK) beats the US one in my opinion... but anyway an Illustrated Edition of these tales is something you should keep

Re-Read - 28/04/20: Audio Version. Narrated by a full cast that makes a great book even better!
Loved! This is the first time I've read the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and the illustrations by Chris Riddell are a great addition. -
Aconselho! -
Excellent illustrated version of The Tales of Beetle the Bard. Love the colourful commentary written by Albus Dumbledore of course. My fave story is still the Tale of the Three Brothers. A must for any Potter Head fan to add to their extensive collection!

Sjajno! ❤
Exceptional!!
I had already read this book but couldn't resist to read it again in the illustrated edition. It is absolutely beautiful and just makes me want to be a young wizard reading this stories while waiting for my hogwarts letter to arrive -

I like Wizarding fairytales better than Muggle ones - for one thing, they actually make sense. The illustrations are stunning, incomparable.

I first read this back in 2010 and after almost 10 years I could only remember the last story (mostly because of how significant it is for the Harry Potter books). Rereading this as the illustrated version... I'm pretty sure I will never forget any of the stories ever again!
I love these stories, they are such fun. I also loved the little note at the front about the author, it makes it almost feel even more real which is so great. The illustrations are gorgeous and fit the story really well (though there are some bloody ones, be warned haha!).
If you enjoyed the stories a lot, I think it is worth it to invest in the illustrated edition. If you didn't care for the stories that much, I don't think the illustrated version is going to change that. -
Wanted to read something short quickly & this turned out to be the best choice. Took me a little less than an hour to read through it & I enjoyed it quite a bit despite it being at a relatively lower Reading level than the potter series.

I never truly had an interest in Beedle of the Bard, I tried first reading the stories in 2011 and rated it a 3 stars. However, I needed this book, why? Solely because of the illustrator. One of the best there is, Chris Riddell! This book needed to be in my collection, and my fiance heard my call (and saw me drooling over the book on multiple occasions, and gave me this book as a present for Christmas.
Rating this book 5 stars solely for the illustrations, though I have to say I have warmed up to the stories + commentary by Dumbledore as well. :) I definitely had more fun reading it, and I totally blame the marvellous, glorious, and beautiful illustrations that are everywhere in this book. -
4.75 🌟
This illustrated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard is EVERYTHING! I had such a great time reading the stories, and laughed out loud at Dumbledore’s additional notes.
While the tales themselves are quite straightforward, I think Chris Riddell’s art is what makes this book really shine — his gorgeous illustrations give life to the stories, and also to Dumbledore’s witty and wise commentary accompanying them. -
“to hurt is as human as to breathe.”
absolutely love these wizarding world fairy tales, especially with dumbledore’s commentary and the illustrations added in this edition. absolutely fantastic!
read for tistheseasonathon (challenge to read a short book (250 pages or less)). -
this time around, for all the beautiful illustrations, gonna give it a 5 star!
-
Chris Riddell's beautiful art makes these tales even more magical.
-
Brilliant Harry Potter related book
Lovely idea to have these books as a sideline to the series
What I would really love - a Harry Potter cookbook -
Perfection!
-
-
JKR's fine writing, coupled with the most badass illustrations ever made this a fantastic read.

“To hurt is as human as to breathe.”
Rozprávky barda Beedla prinášajú čarovnú atmosféru a prehlbujú svet, ktorí sme si mnohí zamilovali.

I've been meaning to read this for a while. I really enjoyed it with the art and of course I loved Dumbledore's notes on each table.

Podľa poznámok Dumbledora túto jedinú svojim deťom nečítali ani čarodejnícki rodičia a čakali, kým deti podrastú. -
I try to read this every year, and when I realised that I forgot to last year I immediately freaked out and absolutely had to do it right now. This is my first time with the illustrated edition, and honestly it was amazing. Chris Riddell is probably my favourite illustrator, mainly because his style is awesome and he creates such unique pictures, but also because he is the Neil Gaiman illustrator and I love Neil too - but anyway, back to Beedle. I would genuinely like the stories even if they weren't part of the Harry Potter universe, but I think because they both enrich and are enriched by JK Rowling's other books they are that little bit more special. The fact that they take place in recognisable historical settings and/or fantasy stereotypes and are integrated into real history also helps make them feel more material and genuine to Muggle audiences. But on the flipside, the book contains what I would call delicate references (and also some not-so-subtle name drops) which plays into the whole 'magic is out there somewhere' and helps to create sort of an atmosphere or 'safe space' where, when the book is open, magic and witches and wizards really are real. Albus Dumbledore talks about events and people in history as if they really existed, and Joanne elaborates on wizarding terms as if it the original commentary wasn't meant for our eyes. I think this whole elaborate game of make-believe was what made me love the stories as a kid, and it's why I still love them now.
