A WICKED HUNGER by Kiersten Fay is the first book in the Creatures of Darkness Paranormal Romantic Suspense series. Fay is a “new to me” author.
Coraline Conwell survived on the streets after the death of her parents and brother when she was ten. She thought she had finally put that life behind her when she married Winston Gordon, a wealthy businessman. However, all is not what it seems and living in a world where vampires run the city and witches exist, anything can happen. The second protagonist is Mason, a member of the Vampire Enforcement Agency assigned to investigate Winston and Coraline.
The story begins with a great first chapter that pulls the reader into the story. Coraline is someone you can root for as her back story comes to light. The main characters felt three-dimensional with their own flaws and virtues. The relationships between the characters were mainly believable.
There were enough twists and turns to keep me engaged, but Coraline seemed too weak and naïve to be a great heroine. There are plenty of steamy scenes in the book and the suspense part often took a backseat to that. Additionally, the novel ends in a cliffhanger. For this reason alone, I would only recommend this to those that enjoy that type of ending.
Many thanks to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op and Kiersten Fay for a digital ARC of this novel via Net Galley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. -
2.5 stars
It was ok. Cora has a lot of issues, so she's not a badass kind of heroine, more like always trying to stay alive. Mason is the usual alpha vampire guy. Knox felt like he was added just for strife. I feel like a lot of the plot could've been better.
I doubt I'll read the rest of this series. -
A Wicked Hunger, by Kiersten Fay, is the 1st book in her "Creatures Of Darkness" series.
An action-packed, paranormal, sexy read with a cliffhanger ending that leaves you wanting more.
Coraline Conwell had a tough life until she found financial security marrying a wealthy man. Planning to surprise her husband at a hotel all hell breaks loose and her world is shattered by the Vampire Enforcement Agency who is investigating a case involving her husband.
With betrayal by the man she married and assassins on her tail, Cora is rescued by Mason, a sexy vampire agent who takes her to a safe house.
Full of twists and turns, suspense, sexy romance and alpha heroes Kiersten Fay's paranormal world is unique and captivating.
I can hardly wait to see what happens next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, by the author, in exchange for an honest review. -
Here's the thing, this book is full of cheese. It's cheesy... as in...
There is plenty cheese to choose from. From the start, the meek and naive heroine.
*SORTS CRACKERS*
The oversexed dark and brooding vampire savior guy.
*GETS THE BUTTER*
The confusing (not at all confusing), sexual awareness sparks. There is attraction between the MC-s, and honestly that's ok, i mean it happens right? So why the hell do we always have these dumb as hell moments where the heroine takes off her panties, shoves her face between her legs and stares at her own coochie in absolute amazement while she asks herself, what's this? And, how could have this have happened?
And. I. Mean. Always.
*GETS THE BUTTER KNIFE*
The baddies who are trying to kill the heroine, while the hero keeps saving her arse.
*STARTS SLICING FROM THE AMAZING SPREAD LAID BEFORE HER, AND AS YOU SEE, IT'S QUITE IMPRESSIVE*
The inherited 'goodness' of the heroine, paired with her newly supernatural status that she never, EVER, could have imagined having.
*STUFFS FACE*
So why oh why, did i like it? I mean, the general gist of things is like a good pair of old boots. Well worn.
See, dear reader, the author also complimented her cheese board with quite a nice wine, in the shape of Knox. He is something of an unusual, unsuspected character for this type of a novel. Something that you truly don't expect. And i'll tell you, with a good vino, even cheddar can seem more then it is.
This is the type of book that i usually don't have the nerves to finish. At the first glance it sounds just to cliche to work, but the fact of the matter is, it was very entertaining...surprisingly so. -
Coraline had only been married to her husband for a few months but something just wasn't right between them anymore so she goes to him at work to find out if they can work things out, romantically. But she's stopped by the Vampire Enforcement Agency thinking she's another hooker for her husband. It's only after the vampires search her that they realize their mistake.
Vampires are known to humans in this world but most humans are scared of them because of what they can do so Coraline is scared when she comes face to face with the vampires. While Coraline is being searched all hell breaks loose and her husband is killed. The vampires don't know if it's a coincidence that she showed up right before someone comes to kill him but they cuff her and take her back to their headquarters. She believes they'll kill her but she's actually safer with them than without when she finds out now she's also in danger and one of the vampire officers who cuffed her is now going to keep her safe.
But they run into trouble right away, somehow the bad guys keep finding them. It's a good thing Mason is a vampire or he'd be dead already. It gets harder and harder to keep one step ahead of the bag guys who are after them but while they're on the run they start to get closer which is hard for Coraline to imagine since she doesn't trust vampires at all. But Mason shows her that all vampires aren't bad and she starts to believe him.
I loved watching Coraline gets more confident and start to flirt with Mason. Their initial flirting was so much fun to watch because they are both slowly falling for each other even though Coraline is still a little afraid of him.
When Mason and his sire find out that she's not completely human, all hell breaks loose. Trent doesn't trust Coraline at all and scares her almost to her breaking point. Mason does everything he can to explain everything to Trent but it takes a lot of time for him to believe anything, all the while poor Coraline is stuck in the middle.
I was liking this story but it ended on a cliffhanger and I do hate cliffhangers. The story had no ending at all. Everything was left wide open and I really didn't like that at all. It's hard for me to give this a star rating since I don't feel like I got an entire story.
Disclosure: I was given a free ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own. -
Three and a half
Well this was different. A world where humans are either rich, prosperous and elite or poor, starving and struggling to survive. Above them all are the Vampires who any sane person avoids! Our heroine is Cora with a truly awful background but honestly I didn't like her which obviously affects my review. She's had just seven months of marriage but we quickly realise that not only did she not love her recently deceased husband but she's absolutely devastated at realising she gets nothing in his will ! Now she would have to do something pretty outstanding to overcome her 'gold digger ' attitude but alas no I couldn't find anything about her that was particularly attractive.
Mason is our hero and he's kind of Vampire enforcement trying to get to the bottom of recent Vampire disappearances and the possibility that their blood is being trafficked. I get that he's clearly infatuated with Cora so very possessive and protective but honestly I didn't really 'fall' for him.
Now fear not though because about half way through we meet Knox who is the quintessential Vampire. Big, bad, brooding and clearly with a story to tell ! I know there's the odd connection between him and Cora and yes he's not very nice at times but underneath I see a male that can and hopefully will be redeemed.
This book does unfortunately focus primarily on Cora and exactly who and what she is. I wanted to know more about the shadowy people trying ( repeatedly! ) to kill Cora . I really wanted more information about what's happening to the missing Vampires and as one particular Vampire was mentioned several times I'm hoping that Mason and Knox will join forces to save the day. I'm not sure if it will happen though but as the last page had Knox clearly confronting his past I'm very hopeful that the next book will have answers and action. -
Thank you to #NetGalley for the eARC of
A Wicked Hunger by
Kiersten Fay.
It took me a while to get around to reading this one, which is strange because I love the genre, but sadly this particular book was not one of my favourite reads. It's billed as a paranormal suspense romance, which is accurate - witches, vampires and humans battling for dominance essentially, with a few subplots going on - but I didn't really feel the suspense, and the romance between Mason and Coraline felt forced and hurried.
This is the first in a series, so the storyline may pick up as it progresses.
2.5 ✨✨ -
This was sadly a hard pass for me. I didn't like Cora, she was annoying and wierd and i didn't see much character devolepment either... The Main character dude, Mason were slightly annoying also - i didn't like him so much.
The story was meh for me. I won't be reading the next book in the series. -
Kiersten Fay is back with Vampires this time!
Lets get right into it. I started off really liking Coraline. She's my kind of girl, from the wrong side of town, lived a hard life, has been abused, and is pretty submissive and what not. I'm in! Sadly, as it seems to happen in every single romance novel, the heroine cannot be too submissive, because...I have no idea why not, but since this trope is constant, she begins to get lippy and snarky, and starts to resemble every other heroine ever. For 50% of the book, she was great. She does get better near the end, so maybe it was PMS, or WMS, or something.
Mason is the hero of our tale, a vampire with a mysterious past. I know, right? I still liked him. He's got some fight in him, he's a little alpha, but not a Dom (sadly, cuz Cora needs one bad) and he's good. Their dynamic starts strong, devolves into bickering, and gets better again later, so I can say I enjoyed them for the most part, as a couple.
Lets talk about the plot. Its a murder mystery, but there isn't much focus on whodunnit, because Cora is the target of a hit, and the assassins are for real. They attack her, and by extension, Mason, constantly, until they settle in at a safe house to ride out the storm. The plot does not finish in this book, it ends on a cliff hanger, so if you are the type to flip out if you get a cliff hanger, you might want to wait for book 2 to be out and read them together.
Sex? Yes, there is, and its pretty hot. Also, Cora might have a little habit of dressing like a hooker, and being slightly naughty. My kind of girl =)
So Mason is a Vampire and Cora is a human, right? No, actually she's a witch. Have I mentioned ever that this is my least favorite paranormal thing? I know that its en vogue because Witches are as weak as a human and can be pushed around, but then suddenly can do awesome magical stuff, just that one time, so we're awed at how great they are, and then they go back to being alpha'd by their super strong vampire mate, and stuff, but honestly, can't we ever just have a female vampire? Whats wrong with girl vampires? They can be weaker than males, I mean, they can be younger, they are physically smaller, they can suddenly do cool stuff via being a Vampire, I just don't get it. Instead, we get these long elaborate reasons why Vampire females don't exist, or don't mate with male vampires, or all died off in some calamity... ok I am currently ranting about stuff not involved in this book, but anyway, the pairing here is M Vampire/F Witch. I always want to know this stuff going in, but usually its a big mystery! I've solved the mystery for you.
The cliff hanger is no big deal, if you plan to read the rest of the series, so I didn't deduct points for it, but taste is subjective, so if you HATE cliff hangers - be warned. -
Three words. Addictive. Mesmerizing and very sexy. Everything I craved and then some. Readers are going to eat it up like fine chocolate. 5/5 stars

My rating 2.5
A Wicked Hunger is first book in Kiersten Fay's new series called "Creatures of Darkness". This series follows Coraline Conwell as she explores her new found witch heritage.
When we first meet Cora shes just a normal human going to surprise her husband with a visit in a sexy outfit. All shit hits the fan when she approaches the door and is thrown into a world on the run with a sexy vampire named Mace/Mason. She starts to find out her husband was possibly a vampire blood dealer and has been experimenting with a missing vampires blood on her secretly which so happens to be who Mace and his team are looking for. Mace takes her to a secluded enchanted cottage to hide out until they can find out what is going on. In the mean time Mace and Cora become bonded by a blood exchange "accidentally". Shortly after they get to the cottage we get introduced to another vamp named Knox. Which Cora and Knox also get bonded by a blood exchange "accidentally". She also finds out she is a witch.
I really believe (this is my thought!) its going to be some kinda love triangle which I don't like. I already couldn't get into the whole her feeding mason, then her confusing thing with Knox. Hell I liked Knox the best out of all of them. He was dark, dangerous, and you just didn't know what was up with him! I really could see him in his own book and it being really good! But I fear *cry* that Knox is going to get stuck with Cora. blah.
I had no clue that this was a "same character series" when I started reading it. When I read the series name "Creatures of Darkness" I just thought it was like her previous books, It would follow a story but have different main characters each book. The series should of been like "Coraline Conwell something" (Then I would of known I suppose). I am not a fan of the same character series books due to not having a HEA (which this book didn't, mason loved her but I wasn't sure where she stood) and the cliffhangers (This book had an irrupt ending. Kinda reminded me of those Kindle serial books when its like a part 1 then a part 2 etc.) and if you do not really like the main chic in the series that just sucks too. (Cora got on my nerves, I have no idea why she bothered me so much. Maybe it was her up and down attitude. I cant explain, she just rubbed me the wrong way.)
But anyway if you are into series with hinted love triangles, mysteries, and you like cliffhangers you probably will really enjoy this. Shes a good writer. Loved her Shadow Quest series. (Her first book - Demon Possession - is one of my favorites!) -
🙀🙀 How could you end this book that way!! That was wicked. I loved this book and I can not wait to read the rest of this series.
Knox is by far the coolest mofo in the first book!😍😍 -
I was honestly quite surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this..
It had a unique story and likable characters. -

An action packed sexy read with a cliffhanger ending that left me shouting!
A WICKED HUNGER is a thrill ride from start to finish that will keep you guessing. Coraline Conwell has had a tough life and has found financial security in her marriage to a wealthy man. But all that glitters isn’t gold, when Cora plans to surprise her husband at a hotel…all hell breaks loose and the new life she’s become accustomed to is turned upside down by the Vampire Enforcement Agency who is investigating a case that involves her husband. With the betrayal of the man she married and assassins on her tail, Cora is rescued and taken to a safe house by Mason (Mace), a sexy vampire agent who she’ll have to trust to ensure her survival.
Kiersten Fay’s paranormal world is unique and engaging. The supernaturals in this world tolerate each other bound by a truce that is constantly being tested. Vampires have been exposed to the human population and pretty much rule behind the shadows.
Cora might now be my favorite type of heroine but she’s been through a lot so I’ll give her a pass. She was held captive by a stray vampire who used her for food so it’s not a huge surprise she’s wary of Mason when they first meet. Unbeknownst to her Mason accidentally triggers a blood bond between them, making things a bit more complicated. Cora is drawn to Mason but is constantly questioning her feelings which made me want to smack her at times…LOL Mace is definitely the kind of swoon-worthy vampire hero I love. He does everything in his power to keep Cora safe, easing her fears and eventually winning her over.
When these two finally get together we’re in for a ride of scorching smexiness! I was on board with this romance until a third party was introduced, the dark and dangerous vampire Knox. He’s the opposite of Mason but I must admit I’m a sucker for a bad boy so I enjoyed his character. Knox’s addition to the story had me dreading the threat of a possible love triangle when he creates a blood bond with Cora in order to save her. I don’t know how this will play out in the end but I’m hoping Mace and Cora can have a HEA.
I know I’m not alone when I say I loved this story up until the last few pages (hence my 4.5 stars instead of 5). We learn an interesting revelation about Cora’s heritage and I was left with a major WTF?! moment when a new character is introduced towards the end leaving us with a massive cliffhanger, you just don’t do that to a reader! A WICKED HUNGER delivers everything I like in my vampire books, suspense, alpha heroes, sexy romance, unexpect twists and an engaging plot (with the exception of the cliffhanger, of course!). I was thrilled to learn this series follows the characters in this book and look forward to what Ms. Fay has in store for Mace, Cora and Knox!

I actually rated this when I was about 50% through it, and didn’t feel the need to change the rating. The only negative thing I can say about this wonderful story is how it ended. Ill leave it there, you will have to read it yourself.
Now Cora if a girl had a run of bad luck throughout her entirety of life, Cora was it. From the time she was young to becoming a adult, she's had to suck it up be it starving, homeless or a pet for a vampires. Her whole life seemed nothing but a run of bad. A young woman taken off the street and married and then forgotten.. or was she?
As much as she tried to be “invisible”, she is thrown in between sometime of blood war. In comes Mason a Vampire on “the good side”. Tall dark and sexy... ( showed a few soft moments, made me forget he is a vampire).
The mission that Mason is on is a bit muddy... black market blood, that could be from another Vampire that Mason knows. He as been stalking a suspect for awhile now, but is he actually stalking the wife of the suspect?? In comes Cora, and sets of a chain of events that will leave you anxious.
Witches, ghost, familiars.. and of course Vampires. Ohhh my. Not just magic is felt but passion as well, a very odd triangle .. Mace, Cora and Knox.. and Knox puts a whole new meaning to Jack ass... just sayin.
Mace loses himself in Cora... is she playing a game with him? Will she use him to gather a army that she has control of .. like the history books say?? Includes some pretty hot sex scenes.. not as often or detailed as I’ve read in other books, but they will peak your interest. So grab this book, and something to drink get comfy and enjoy. -
I love this story! It has captivated me from the beginning. The plot is complex but easy reading, the characters are rich and earthy at the same time. The threads of the story are entwined with a simplicity that leads you to search for more. The degree of expectation is increasing while you are reaching the end. And all of a sudden, when all is in high level, finishes and you have to wait for the next book! I hope will be a short waiting...
A hundred years after the vampire breed have become in plain sight, Coraline, a tough girl who grew up in the streets, and she has to made it by her own with ten years old, after her parents had died, has been introduced to the comfort world by a rich and cold businessman. He took Cora away from the streets and married her, but with coldness and deception, using her as a ginnea pig. Now her husband is dead, she is a target and her life will be whirled down but for a sexy as hell vampire agent, Mason. She is now into the world of her nightmares' creatures, bonded to a vampire very difficult to ignore, and discovering herself in the process. She is learning how to trust and the most important, how to be herself despite all the fears that she carries since her childhood. -
This book couldn't be any more different than the author's Shadow's Quest series. It's a bit darker and there are a lot of scenes in it that could be triggering for some. It started out very slowly and boring --at least for me-- but it picked up some in the middle of the book. I was glued to it and couldn't wait to start the next one.
There's an unconventional love triangle in this book and yes, it might be a turn off for some but for me it just made me more excited and invested in it because I was very interested to see where the author was going for.
We have two male characters: Mason and Knox. Mason was protective from the start. He was the knight in the shining armor, always wanting to do what's right. You just cannot help but loving him! But don't mistake him for a weakling though! He's anything but weak. As for Knox, as crazy as it sounds, I actually liked him. He's the anti-hero. He was purposely mean and harsh towards the heroine and his distrust for her annoyed me so much in the beginning. And nope it didn't get any better towards the You'll just have to see it for yourself to judge.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! -

Title: A Wicked Hunger
Series: Creatures of Darkness
Author: Kiersten Fay
Designation: Book One of Series, Full-Length Novel, NOT A Standalone, Cliffhanger Ahead
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Four Seriously Sexy Stars****
**Disclosure: The information in the blurb for A Wicked Hunger states the first three books of the Creatures of Darkness Series can be read in any order, but I strongly disagree. It is my opinion that none of the first three books should be considered a standalone. In order to understand and enjoy the story, they must be read in order. The first two books, A Wicked Hunger and A Wicked Night, end with obvious cliffhangers and the third, A Wicked Desire, concludes with a questionable happy for now. All three books feature Coraline Gordon/Conwell and have a common underlying conflict with various interconnected subplots, but each story focuses primarily on Cora and one of the three heroes.
I became a Kiersten Fay fan only a week ago after reading Keeping His Siren, the fourth book of the Creatures of Darkness Series. It was my first time reading her work but was so impressed, I decided to purchase the other three books and immediately dove in. Best decision ever! A Wicked Hunger is a riveting, imaginative, fast-paced, full-length paranormal saga filled to the brim with compelling drama, pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat action, daring adventure, nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching angst, intriguing characters, steamy passion, and dreamy romance. The setting for the story is a somewhat dystopian future in which many modern conveniences, the internet, and technology like cell phones and computers are only available to the wealthy. It was caused by a century of wars between vampires and humans after vampires revealed themselves to the world. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives, primarily from the protagonists of each book. The dialogue is smart, witty, at times snarky and humorous, well executed and flows effortlessly. I love the premise for the story but without a doubt, my favorite component is the large cast of intriguing characters. They are captivating, sexy, well developed and engaging. This story has a complex plot that carries forward through all three books and includes several subplots featuring several of the secondary characters. I'm writing this review after having read all three books so I'm trying not to give any spoilers, but I feel compelled to say this could have easily been a five-star read but several of the plot threads were left unresolved and ignored. As I stated earlier, I've also read Book Four so I know they were NOT addressed at all so the author left me hanging. I must admit, it's a little disturbing but then again, she may have plans to address these issues in a future book. The jury is still out but I hope this is the case. I fell in love with the four protagonists of this story, and yes I said four. The first book features primarily Coraline and Mason, the second is mainly Coraline and Braydon, and the third, Coraline and Knox. You'll see all of them mentioned or popping up in all of the first three books along with a menagerie of other players who add dimension to the story. I was especially impressed with Cora in this story. Her growth was simply astounding, starting as meek and subservient as a mouse and eventually morphing into a lioness, willing to risk everything for those she loves. ANd FYI, she does love three men, and not just ordinary men but three very dominant and competitive vampires. Oh god, talk about sexy times! *swoon* The banter and foreplay was nothing short of exquisite!
Did I like this book? No, I loved it! WOuld I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers. I will say that all three of the books were littered with misspelled words (and I'm not referring to regional language differences such as realize and realise), incorrect use of homonyms and homophones, missing letters in words, and missing prepositions. There were several times I had to stop and reread passages to understand what the author was trying to say, which can not only be very distracting but also interrupts the flow of the story, hence the four stars instead of five. Every single mistake could have been easily corrected with a simple proofread. There's no doubt Fay is a talented wordslinger and skilled wordsmith, but when I pay $5.99 to $7.99 for a book, I expect a certain level of quality and, unfortunately, Fay missed the mark. Nonetheless, I still very much enjoyed the story. I was glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader as my heart fluttered wildly in my chest. I simply couldn't stop reading. I read all three books in two days and wanted more! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! As soon as she releases the next book in this series, I'm all over it! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
No spoilers from me but I will say this... Lovely orphan heroine who lost her parents as a child forcing her to live on the streets, all the while trying to remain invisible to the predators of the world, especially vampires, but failing miserably-Check! Three handsome and very dominant vampire males who, either by accident or unwilling force, become bonded to the same beautiful woman who just may not be entirely human-Check! Danger, drama, action, adventure, suspense, malevolent enemies and evil machinations-In spades! Heated attraction, fiery passion, steamy sex, dreamy romance, and even a dash of humor-You bet! That and a whole lot more! -

A Wicked Hunger - Creatures of Darkness: A Coraline Conwell Novel by Kiersten Fay
"Her mysterious past could mean his doom…or his salvation.
Vampires run this city. Hell, they practically run the world. Despite her blurry past, Coraline knows just how dangerous they can be. All her life, she has strived to avoid them. But when her husband is murdered, and she finds herself targeted next, her survival suddenly depends on a devastatingly handsome vampire named Mason."
Thank you to Netgalley & Victory Editing for my copy.
Steamy PNR / Fantasy Romance has been a guilty pleasure of mine lately, so had to nab A Wicked Hunger after I read the synopsis.
A Wicked Hunger - is an addictive read. I finished the book in one sitting!
For the most part of the book, it's all about the sexual tension between Cora and Mace as you would expect.
Mason is portrayed as your typical alpha male and for the most part he is. I prefer these types of characters to develop over the story line, to be stripped down and have their inner emotions revealed as the story progresses. For all his 'alpha maleness', he actually wears his heart on his sleeve.
Cora is your stereotypical heroine. She has a tragic past, her husband was an emotional abuser and she doesn't have anywhere to go after his demise. Interestingly, she holds back on her feelings for Mace - this was quite refreshing to see as a reader. She is open and honest with him about that. I'll be interested in reading how Mace helps her to lower those barriers.
This book has all the scenes primed for a little steam as you would expect; motel room, baths, showers and even an enchanted cottage.
Cliches and predictability aside, this was a well written and fun book to read.
The stakes were raised higher towards the end - and I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Would I recommend?
Yes, for those driven by characters more than world building. It's fun, steamy and has just enough mystery towards the end that leaves you wanting more.
*warning* this book does end on a cliffhanger. -
This book was provided to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I got pre-approved on Netgalley for this book by Kiersten Fay and let me tell you THAT WAS AWESOME! And I've been in a romance and vampire mood lately so it couldn't have come at a better time. So big thanks to Kiersten Fay for letting me read another one of her books! (I've also read and reviewed Keeping His Siren)
Story: The story was jam-packed with lots of different things and nothing felt rushed. Usually paranormal romance books go too fast and certain situations give you a whiplash because they turn around so fast. Fay knows how to write a compelling story that you just can't put down with a storyline that will not leave you questioning your sanity.
Writing style: I am enamored with Fay's writing style. Her sentences flow together beautifully. I fly through her books and almost 400 pages are not enough. No amount of pages is ever enough.
Characters: Because I've read Keeping His Siren which is a standalone novel in this world and happens after the events in this trilogy, I already recognized some names and how important they truly are. Our MC Coraline is a woman with lots of issues and has a rough past that follows her everywhere she goes. Fay has portrayed her anxiety and fears so beautifully that I can't help but want to roll Cora in a blanket burrito and keep her safe. But I'll leave the protection to Mason, wouldn't want to get into a fight with that badass vamp. Don't let me start about Mason because I won't stop. *insert mayor heart eyes*
I finished this book incredibly fast, I couldn't put it down. I had to unfortunately because I had to go to bed, but the first thing I did when waking up is pick up this book. Fay's writing is an addiction that I never want to get rid of. I first gave this book 3,5 stars but now that I'm at the end of my review I've decided that it deserves 4 stars because it's just so damn good. I can't wait to read the next book! -
Why am I always late to the game? No, seriously? This book came out in 2017 and I'm just NOW reading it? And I liked it so much that I now need to catch up. Geez (slapping myself).
Caroline has grown up fending for herself. After a tragic incident as a child, she's literally been doing everything possible to survive. That included marrying a man who saved her from the slums. Turns out, the husband was a no good dirty rotten sleazeball. And to make matters worse, everything she thought she knew...has all been a lie.
Mason is a vampire who works for the VEA (think vampire FBI). While working a case, the unexpected happens, the suspects wife shows up. Now that the case has blown up in his face, keeping the wife safe is the new objective. Except someone is trying to kill her and he may have initiated a bond with her. Great...now what?
Let me first start by mentioning that I hate cliffhangers. Yep, I said it. I hate getting so drawn in to a story, to NOT FINISH IT! Thank goodness this was written a while ago, because I at least don't have to wait long to find out what's next. That being said, just because I don't like cliffhangers doesn't mean I didn't really like this book.
The constant plot changes kept me glued to the pages. Mason and Caroline's relationship is super heavy and amazing. But it's the x-factors that have me totally hooked. I can't wait to see what happens next. Damn you cliffhanger!!!!! -
Naughtiness 4.5*
Wow definitely does not do justice to how much I love this book but I will figure out a more suitable one over the next few minutes. I've literally just finished reading it and let the lovely Kiersten know that I'm about to do the review, I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read more, it is part one in a series but an amazing read.
I won't give spoilers but I will say though that this book is brilliant and most definitely those who like paranormal fantasy with naughtiness, adventure, the fight with on and with others you will love this, it's not fluffy but not too dark either. It has something for all who love paranormal and supernatural.
This is the very first book by Kiersten I've read and definitely won't be the last il be like a mad woman possessed collecting her books past and present which is what I usually do when I find an author whose book I've loved.
Thank you Kiersten for writing this magnificent (found the word in looking for 😉) book and thank you for the honour of reading it xxxxx 🤗 🤗 -
I have read two other books by Kiersten Fay, so I was fairly excited for this one. While the other books I read involved Evernight (a club owned and run by vampires), this one was in a different setting.
First off, I didn’t know this was a trilogy, so fair to say I was a bit bummed by the ending. Though if trilogies and cliffhangers are for you, Go For It!
This book is about Mason and Coraline. Coraline had been married for about seven months when her husband was murdered in front of her. Those same people who killed him are after her now and Mason is the only one willing to help her.
There was that steamy, paranormal romance I was expecting. Other than that, I didn’t find any of the characters unique or worth remembering, which is why this feels completely different from the Evernight books. There were twists and turns and “shocking” revelations which werent that shocking because hints started at least two pages before the actual revelation so the surprise element was not there.
In the end, I did like the story, it was just the characters which made it bad. Some personality would have done wonders here. -
I received this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I can't express how much I loved this book. The abused heroine trope is my favorite in romance. I will definitely be checking out this author's other books.
Background of the world: 100 years ago, vampires made their existence known and since then there have been a couple of human uprisings against perceived injustices. The world is very volitle and uncertain as a result.
Story: I admit I am torn about how much to reveal of the story. There are plot twists and secrets revealed in this book that I don't want to give away. I don't want to spoil it for other readers.
The heroine Coraline Gordon is going to surprise her husband Winston on his business trip at his hotel. She shows up and just as she is about to knock on the door she is seized from behind and thrust into the room across the hall. Mason and Trent (agents with the Vampire Enforcement Agency who are investigating the kidnapping and captivity of vampires and the subsequent selling of their vampire blood on the black market) have set up surveillance on her husband and do not want him interrupted. Mason quickly realizes they have Winston's wife. Suddenly, they see two armed men appear and barge into Winston's room and kill him. After the attack has ended, they call their superior and find out that Winston's house and another have also been hit. Mason is ordered to take Coraline to the human police station for questioning. They arrive and after questioning Coraline is placed into the custody of Mason. He is to bring her to a safe house. Coraline is terrified at this prosptect, but has no choice in the matter.
From this point on, Coraline and Mason are on the run. Mason must protect her from those who wish her harm and also continue to try to solve the mystery of who is ultimately behind the selling of vampire blood on the black market. There are secrets revealed about Coraline's true nature and not everyone is who they seem. Coraline and Mason relationship further develops despite her fears and insecurities. This book ends on a major cliffhanger. I did not see it coming and was totally surprised.
Hero: He is everything you want in a hero. He is kind, understanding, compassionate, and protective. He always puts her needs ahead of his own. He never tried to take unfair advantage of her. The hero was very patient drawing her out of her shell.
Heroine: I truly felt sorry for her. She has a tragic background beginning with the death of her family when she was 10 years old. After their death, she was thrown on the streets and forced to beg to survive. Soon after that, Edgar (an evil vampire) captured her and used her for her blood. He also tortured her. Eventually, Edgar was found out and ordered to release her. He refused and was killed. She was then released. As a result of this, she has tried to avoid vampires and has a great fear of them. Whenever she feels in danger, she withdraws into herself to escape.
Overall, a great start to a vampire series.

Dear Mother of God! You can't do that to me. Damn you Kiersten! I'm freaking addicted. What the hell happen at the end?? Nono, that's just mean. And there isn't even a date of release for the next book. *pouting*
This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. Okay I say that I a lot with books that I like, but never with books I was given. This one was impressive and I devoured it in less than a day.. Sure, I expected something good, considering the story the blurb presents, but I never expected this. I'm hooked and I want the next book NOW. So beware the end has you wishing for more. Me, I just transformed from this normal girl to an addict wishing for my next fix.
*calming down*
Okay, now that my rant is over I can start. In the beginning, this mischievous author makes you believe you are reading the same old story: poor woman is frightened of a sexy and dangerous vampire, sparks fly, woman gets over herself, the end. But noooooo, don't be deceived. This is so much more, there're a lot of twists and unexpected turns.
The characters:
Cora, a complicated heroine, who has a mysterious past. I'd love to know more about that and the abrupt developments of the end.
Mason, a protective hero, (I would say also whipped but maybe that'd hurt his male pride). My my, what are you not telling?
Knox, his nemesis and an asshole. But he's one of the characters you love to hate. What other things is he hiding behind that closed door that are his emotions?
As you can see, the majority of the character are intriguing to say the least. I highly recommend this book.
Steam factor: this book was HOT, it had me fanning myself from time to time and wishing for a tall cool drink, with the name of Mason, obviously.
P.D.: I love the cover. I totally am a cover whore.
