  This series is a bit cheesy but I loved it growing up because I always wanted to take gymnastics but we did not have the funds to afford it. It is fairly realistic in the level of skill that girls obtain and it gives you plenty of gymnastics whilst still allowing for real lie stories and difficulties in the books.

  I hadn't read this one when I was younger so it was all completely new to me... and I can't say I really loved it as much as some of the others. :( Darlene was the main character and I guess I just seem to prefer the other three to her or something? Anyway, the Denver Broncos have decided to have some half-time entertainment that features all the sporty children of players in their team, and since Darlene's dad is "Big Beef" Broderick, that includes her. So the footy players go to Patrick's to discuss this and decide to have a teeny little display featuring the Pinecones, and then Darlene will do a routine on the beam.
  
  And Darlene's a little freaked out by this, and ALSO dealing with everyone worshipping her dad and treating her only as the daughter of a STAR, and then Ashley (who I assume made her debut in book three) starts whining that it's not fair, what if Darlene falls off the beam, that'll bring SHAME on Patrick's, it should be the BEST gymnast who gets to perform. So they decide to hold a little beam competition to see who will get the spot and it's kind of ridiculous, because Darlene IS the daughter of one of the footy players and none of the others are, and the show is meant to feature the players' children, so there's kind of no point in having some random kid up on the beam, you know? Argh.
  
  Anyway, the other three Pinecones coach Darlene and decide to all drop out at he last second so it's only Darlene and Ashley competing, and why they don't divulge this sooner is still beyond me. Ashley performs her routine perfectly and Darlene FALLS OMG but her routine was much harder so of course she wins.
