Orange: Future (Orange, #6) Reviews
-
i kind of went into this already unsure if i truly wanted an extension on the orange series. i love the orange series and though i left it with a few questions, i didn't know that i needed those questions answered. i do think going into this book with that mindset affected how i felt about it. that being, that i didn't end up liking this addition to the series. i just didn't really find it necessary and i also didn't like that it was more so focused on the romance than anything.
-
So we all know I’ve been obsessed with Orange recently, the first five volumes are 5/5 stars and own my whole heart. I was excited but nervous to read this 6th volume that takes place in the future. I love Suwa as a character, but I didn’t necessarily love reading from his POV in this book. I feel like he was kind of behaving differently in this at times then he did in the rest of the series? I also thought the timeline was so confusing at times, it jumps back and forth and all over the place and it was hard to keep track of when the story was and I was left feeling pretty confused. I’m just sad I didn’t absolutely love this one because the rest of the series is top tier for me!
-
This really wasn't a necessary addition to the series, and the jumping between timelines was so confusing that I don't understand what I just read lol
-
A solid 4 stars.
Hmmmm...the storytelling in this volume wasn’t as smooth as the previous volumes and I had difficulty at times discerning whether we were in the past or present which was a shame as I didn't experience this in the first two collections I read. Having said that, the artwork was still super-cute and being reunited with the group was wonderful. (Honestly, I feel like I know them in real life!)
This volume focusses on Suwa's relationship with Naho and how they eventually come to be together after Kakeru's death. Whilst I did enjoy reading this latest instalment, I didn't think it was particularly necessary as Takano portrays Suwa as a bit of a douche, which I really didn't like. In the first two collections, I really loved him (possibly a tad more than Kakeru) since he was always there for Naho and seemed to have her best interests at heart. Here, we see him stealing Kakeru's ideas regarding where to take Naho out on dates which I think is a bit out of character. I also don't think we actually learned anything more about any of the characters which makes me feel like this addition didn't really add anything to the overall story. Yes, it was interesting to see Suwa's perspective but in all honesty I would rather read about Azu and Hagita-Kun. I think their story would be hilarious!
I would recommend it to those who loved the original Orange collections. -
I’m pretty sure every single volume of Orange has made me cry. The friendship between these six students warms my heart so much, and Takano’s message about suicide prevention as well as cherishing your friends is so beautiful.
The time jumps were a bit more confusing in this volume, but it was all worth it to get a glimpse of the future after their high school days. I love Suwa and Kakeru’s friendship to pieces, so seeing Suwa hurt and reflect upon what he could’ve done differently even years after Kakeru’s passing was crushing. It was nice to finally see bits of how Suwa and Naho ended up together, too! That boy has sacrificed so much for the happiness of his friends, he deserves the world <3 -
SUWA SUWA SUWA!!!
-
Although Ichigo Takano's Orange: Future may still pack an emotional punch that remains consistently faithful to the original series, this sixth volume falls short in terms of smooth storytelling, relying on the readers' emotional investment in order to progress a plot that has spread so thin in the book. Orange: Future fits the book category "totally unnecessary but I will read it anyway".
Future is marketed as Suwa's story, a point of view that I am really interested in experiencimg. Takano really did well in preserving character personalities especially that of Suwa - a cheerful, selfless martyr. But I'd say that the impact is not that enough. The story is not that ripe enough to fully explore Suwa's inner self, something that has been thoroughly explored with Kakeru and Naho. Instead we see snippets of the events in the original material and some in the future, and how Suwa reacts on them.
What I really disliked though in Future is that bit of exposition about how the letters reached the past. I'm perfectly okay with the magic and mystery of it. No need for explanation.
In the end, Orange: Future did a good job in giving a dose of bittersweet sadness to its fans, with Suwa being Suwa all the way. But yeah, it could have been better. -
I was for sure I was going to give this 5 stars like I’ve given all the prior volumes, but following the time lines was extremely confusing and honestly the conclusion in volume 5 was enough for me. This felt forced to an extent and in return turned a 5 Star series into a 4.5 Star series.
However, I will forever love Orange and all the characters💜 I just now for some reason love Suwa a little less and Kakeru a little more. 🙂 -

Perspective of a Writer...
As this is a multi-volume series my opinion is also influenced by the previous volumes... And there may be references to the plot of those volumes... SO READ WITH CARE! Here is my review of
The Complete Collection volume one... and
The Complete Collection volume two...
"Experience the world of orange from a whole new perspective, as the fate of the present and future timelines unfolds from the point of view of the ever-cheerful third wheel, Suwa Hiroto. Reuniting years later in college, Suwa and Naho's lives have been forever scarred by their experiences in high school. They say time heals all wounds, but sometimes, time is not enough."
I was super excited to read this as I was quite torn about Suwa. He is quite a self-less character and you don't really understand why within the original story. You just know that he quite loved Kakeru as much as he loved Naho. And even as your heart breaks for him you can't help agreeing with his POV that Naho and Kakeru love each other. In this volume he gets his own happiness and I was pleased to understand his motivations...
Some may see this as an incidental story line but I LOVED seeing how that original future came about... sometimes a person makes the best impression on you... you take on some of their traits because they were such a great example in that one thing you lacked... Such was Kakeru for Suwa in the first timeline! This give in take in their relationships causes this inner tension in the reader... you want both boys to be happy! And this was Suwa's chance.
Like other reviewers I was a tad confused what this volume was about... and it did take me a some pages to understand that I was seeing the original timeline from Suwa's POV before the letters but when everyone was in college. If you've read the previous 5 volumes (or the 2 Complete Collections) then you will understand that we see how the relationships developed so that they would decide to send the letters from the future. I found it added a lot of depth to the original story!
I was ooohing and awwwing over the art just as much in this volume as the other ones. We don't see the others as much but they are at different colleges and have grown a little distant living their lives. I did enjoy when they came into the picture in the moments that Naho and Suwa needed them. And I enjoyed the flashbacks to more intimate moments between Suwa and Kakeru.
Orange Vol. 6 -Future- may not be essential to the story, but it certainly adds depth to a character who is quite self-less! And we see a more mature Naho who starts to heal from her traumatic first love... It was quite fun to get one last look at an inspiring gang of friends!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⋆⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art
BOTTOM LINE: Unnecessary but Enriching to the Orange World.
Thanks to Seven Seas for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. This has not influenced my opinion.

In the case of "let's relaunch a series that worked just because (money)," we get a sequel to Orange. I was torn about being excited over it as I firmly believed the story that needed to be told was told when the series concluded. Nevertheless, I was willing to give this sequel the benefit of the doubt seeing that it was from a different POV – the selfless, charming Suwa.
Strike 1: Suwa, who I have actually now lost some respect for because of how spineless this volume made him out to be. The thing is, I don't think the portrayal of him has changed all that much but I think seeing it from his eyes, thinking it as his thoughts and hearing it in his voice has definitely made me view his self-sacrificial stance as soppy and melodramatic.
Strike 2: The timeline was ALL OVER THE PLACE and I had to make sure I wasn't in the future past, past present, alternate present, parallel future and/or various combinations of. It didn't help that Naho and Suwa looked like they hadn't aged a day, where at least in the original series we had them in school uniforms to contrast the past from their adult selves.
Strike 3: This is not a spoiler as we know they end up married with a kid from the original series, but Suwa's sudden proposal felt awkward and and Naho's unexpected change of heart felt like a consolation prize. One of the things I loved about the original series was the unknowing mystery of how their relationship blossoms in the absence of Kakeru. Having it now dictated in this unsatisfied way is a disappointment.
Endearment and loyalty to Orange made me question what I felt about this volume, and the fact that there will be a Volume 7. I'm absolutely being very harsh with my rating of Orange: future because of the endearment I have for the series but I will still check out the next volume because of the loyalty I have for it, albeit with a bit of the shine rubbed off. -
Quick thoughts:
- first of all, how did I not know this was a thing that existed until recently?!
- orange is probably my favourite manga of all time and I only found out about this now!
- I was so excited to see more of the story, but this time from Suwa's perspective!
- Suwa was probably my favourite character throughout the entire series, so this made my heart happy
- multiple timelines: kind of hurt my brain, but like...in a good way?
- the end hinted at a possibility of more volumes?
- omg please let there be more volumes!!! -

I LOVED this volume! It was absolutely AMAZING!
I was extremely nervous about reading this one because the reviews were so mixed and ALMOST didn't read it, but THIS was honestly was the perfect way to wrap up this series. I definitely cried and strongly recommend everyone to read this because that first chapter felt like the REAL conclusion to this series.
Also, while small, I really enjoyed the mangaka's note at the end! Well, maybe enjoyed is the wrong word because it brought tears to my eyes as I loved hearing her reason of why the series ended the way it did. I thought it poignant and especially heartfelt.
The first chapter (actually last chapter of Orange) was my favorite, but I liked the following chapters from Suwa's POV! He has been my favorite character from this series and was deeply moved by how he sacrificed his own future for Naho so Kakeru could have the chance to be happy with Naho.
I…don't know if I would have the same strength he showed. Because of that, it was HARD seeing him beat himself up and call himself scumbag on more than one occasion. It was also hard seeing Naho too and how both of them were years after high school. However though, I felt there relationship had something different about it that was hard, but beautiful. It reminded me of the Japanese art of breaking pottery and then filling the cracks with gold. (While I don't mean ANY disrespect to Kakeru or his death, I mean that analogy specifically in regards how their friendship is and now relationship.)
Overall, this was the one volume that sort of wrecked me at the end. If I could get any volume from the series, it would be this one. Naho was once again relatable and found Suwa still such an amazing character who continued to give his all the best way he knew how.
Highly recommend reading this final volume in this series because it is very good! A great and heartfelt conclusion! -
2-2.5
suwa is my absolute favourite character in this series, but i was kinda disappointed because it felt like this volume made him an empty shell that was just filled with kakeru’s date ideas for naho & it just didn’t make sense because suwa’s character was so strong & it felt like he was just torn down here. suwa has his own personality, he could’ve had a million of his own date ideas. he really is a good guy & deserves all the happiness i just wish this future volume was a happier journey for suwa & naho. that would’ve been so cute to read about them being a happy family.
the more i think about this the more i realize naho’s character wouldn’t shut down suwa the way she did in this volume & she wouldn’t have been as cold because in the second bind up edition their romance started when suwa told her how he felt about her so honestly suwa & naho’s characters took such a bad turn in this volume & it’s sad because this would’ve been a cute love story. -
4.5/5 stars
*If you feel confused by jumpy timelines - follow Suwa's necklace! If he's wearing it - it's a throwback. If he's not - it's a present time.*
It felt so good being back in Orange world. Being with these characters. Seeing them cry, seeing them smile. I love all of them with my whole heart. They are all precious little dandelions and they need to be protected at all costs.
This volume wasn't as strong as the previous ones for one reason - the whole gang wasn't in it enough. I missed their dynamic, I missed the jokes and their interactions and Yuza's cutesy outfits. There was some of it here, but not nearly enough.
I loved seeing Suwa's perspective. He was always my favorite and he still is. Behind his cheerfulness there is so much sadness, so much insecurity and regrets. He's so beautiful inside and out, even if he himself doesn't believe that.
While Orange Future doesn't add anything new plot wise to the story, it adds another dimension. It adds another set of emotions.
This is definitely a series that I will re-read a lot in the future. So much love.

more like a 3.5 stars
While I didn't feel as blown away by this volume because it was tacked on at the end and deals with the future of the people who sent the letters, I am glad that this story was included. I'm glad that we get to see these characters have to cope with the death of their friend and come to terms with their own failure/inability to help him when he was alive. It is a very sad reality but its a true one that many real life people have to deal with after the suicide of someone close to them. -

Celui ci et une sorte de spin off avec des chapitres en plus pour l'histoire centré sur le personnage de Suwa. J'ai énormément aimé ce point de vue qui manquait un peu dans la série ❤
-
Is it necessary? Eh not really. Did it make me tear up? Yep. Is it enjoyable? Hell yeah!
4.5 stars but I’m rounding up due to the warmth in my heart. -
Not entirely necessary, but here it is: an enjoyable enough extension of the love triangle at the heart of the previously completed series. There are time jumps and alternate timelines, but its just a sappy little romance at heart. It almost makes me want to re-read the earlier volumes though.
-
I just have a lot of feelings right now. Really enjoyed revisiting this world and story and characters.

unnescesary but good <3

I loved this! Orange is one of my favorite manga books ever. Naho is amazing, I love her. I cried a little in this book, to be honest I cried in a lot of these books. These books are amazing to me and Ichigo makes these books really well. I was so happy when my mom brought this home from the library. I read it right away.
-
This is the epilogue I was looking for! It was so cute and adorable seeing the lead up to the "future" timeline seen in the previous books.
If you loved the other two volumes of Orange but weren't quite satisfied with the ending, I'd say give this a go.
This whole series is definitely a new all time favourite for me! -
Amo sufrir.
I'M SO EMOTIONAL SUWA IS SO SWEET AND KIND, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
He's my fav character so I'm glad he's the main character in this volume. Some pages where kinda confusing in a 'which timeline are we in' way but still !! -
This volume was so sweet and tender! I loved revisiting this story from a new perspective and seeing how the rest of the time line plays out. The characters are just so adorable, and there are a lot of emotional scenes. Love it!
-
I completely forgot how much fun Mangas are!!!! I loved this series so much.
