A mysterious letter sends Carl Brooke and Rutherford Nordlinger off to the aid of a man who, accused of murder, is now threatened by the man he is said to have killed.
--
“Well, hello there,” I said with some relief. “I am so very
glad it is you.”
“Mr. Brooke,” Nordlinger said, smiling, “by the handle of
the revolver I see coming out of your pocket, it seems you
were expecting the devil instead.”
“Very close.” I motioned for him to enter. “Very close,
indeed.” I headed to the bureau, returning the weapon to its
proper place. “Do come in and have a seat.”

Each Agora mystery is a complete and standalone mystery; however, some readers prefer reading the stories in order. This is the fifth short story (about 10k words) in the Agora Series, the others being (in order): Two Tocks before Midnight, The Penitent Thief, The Peace Party Massacre, The Curse of the Mad Sheik, and The Captain's Play
Please search for "The Agora Letters" for the first five stories in one inexpensive bundle.

Some Excitement!
Carl Brooks, a member of The Agora Society, is called upon by an old friend for help with a crisis that is on its way to happening.
His old friend, Rutherford Nordlinger, needs help with a problem that his friend Mr. Casey is going through.
It seems Mr. Casey has a big problem. An old childhood fiend is threatening to kill him. Which is frightening for many reasons. One being that the fiend, Edmund Hayes, died by the hands of Mr. Casey, years ago.
So if Casey killed Hayes years ago, who is sending him threatening letters? He has only a weekend left to live since he is promised to be dead by Monday.
So this means that Brooks and Nordlinger have only a few days to solve this mystery. And hopefully, they will.
Finally, four stars. 💫💫💫💫 -
This is a 4.5 star read.
Murder by Monday is EXACTLY how an historical mystery should be written! With it's wonderful cadence, language and setting, the reader is immediately drawn into the past with our characters Nordlinger and Brooke as they try to solve a perplexing mystery.
Written in a similar vein to Sherlock Holmes, not only are we introduced to intriguing characters and a befitting setting, we are also faced with a ghostly mystery steeped in the past but with a death threatened in the very near future. The thing I like most about Clay Boutwell's historical series is that though they are novelette length they are intelligent mysteries. The reveal of how the deed was done is just as satisfying as knowing who had done it.
If you are an historical mystery aficionado then I can't recommended highly enough this delectable little morsel!
I received an ebook copy of this novelette directly from the author. I have voluntarily chosen to review the book and the gifting in no way influences my review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. -
Kindle Unlimited now. these books put me in mind of a mix of Sherlock, Marple, Poirot, but again definitely of Doyle's Watson. Read any of these stories together in set or once by one in order or standalone is fine too.
A childhood nemesis. A threat seemingly from beyond the grave. Murder by Monday... A mysterious letter sends Carl Brooke and Rutherford Nordlinger off to the aid of a man who, accused of murder, is now threatened by the man he is said to have killed.

Agora Society, suspense, investigation
Ghost busting by the Society on behalf of a Penitent Thief.
Reading previous Society shorts are not necessary to appreciation of this
logistical problem, but will probably induce the reader to further
readings of these fascinating puzzlers.
Carl Brooke is the protagonist once again, having been asked by Mr
Nordlinger to accompany him to the current residence of a man who is also
a Penitent Thief. It really seems to be a kind of haunting, but is truly
diabolical. An excellent read!

An extremely clever Sherlock Holmes style crime novel where the threat of a murder, apparently to be committed by a ghost, must be prevented.
The plot is clever and leads the reader down numerous dead ends, before finally revealing the would-be murderer. The characters are classic 19th century and although this is quite a short book the characters are still well drawn and believable. Overall a very good read.
This was the first novella in this series that I have read, but I will be reading some of the previous ones in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author and voluntarily wrote this review. -
I simply loved this book. In the wonderful vein of the previous Agora Mystery stories, it blended the language, scenery, and customs of a long ago age with a delightful, clever mystery, as well as throwing in a twist or two! Well done, Mr. Boutwell. Keep 'em coming!

I really enjoyed Murder by Monday. Mr Brooke and Mr Nordlinger made a good team. The whole plot and the way it came together was pretty slick. There was a lot of suspense leading to an end I didn't see coming. Good read.
For those who want to know: This is (refreshingly) a clean read. -
I received this book in exchange for a review. I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end.

My review for Murder by Monday
I loved it! I hoped that Casey was innocent too. What a great story! This a must read series! I look forward to the next book! -
I love this & I can't wait for more.
I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon.
And letting everyone know about it.
So i gave it a 5 Stars. -
In Defense of Dogs
A penitent murderer is being haunted by his past sin; but did he even kill the man he'd shot in self defense? As always, a complex tale, carefully worked out. The author quite adeptly handles his own narration.
