She's Tofu
A lovely nineties-style flower child, Tasha Smith enjoys her laid-back life at the shop where she sells organize fruits and vegetables, even though lately she's been in a funk over a broken engagement. Determined to shake her blues, she heads down to a resort in sunny Jamaica, and along the way, hooks up with a most unlikely companion--a workaholic salesman who has no idea how sexy he looks in his Brooks Brothers suit!
He's Beefsteak
Andrew Jacob Powel III reluctantly heads to Jamaica after winning the trip for high salesman of the month. He figures while there, he'll handout business cards and make some new connections. But when he connects with Tasha, his professional poise begins a slow unraveling. She is at turns enchanting and exasperating--and adorably determined to tease him out of his conservative shell, not to mention that Brooks Brothers suit.
Even as a sultry passion takes them both by surprise, Andrew and Tasha know they'll have to return to their very different lives--but their hearts keep telling them they belong together. And hearts never lie...

Some people just need a good “thunk” to the head to put them on the right path. Luckily for Andrew, there’s Tasha. Luckily for Tasha, there’s Andrew. While they are, unfortunately, stereotypical of romance characters, they are quite fortunate in that their actions are governed by the twisting and turning of author Maddie James’ imagination.
The tropical location and bus strike provided the basis for the eccentric quirks of fate that led Andrew to Tasha. True, his character’s paranoia and suspicion also played into the plot quite a bit, but that just kept things interesting.
Meanwhile, Tasha has those overwhelming urges. You know the ones – mother instinct to protect and help the poor introverted man to “blossom”, all the while fighting off the not so maternal sexual attraction that no good romance is without.
This is not the story of a grand romance. It is, however, a fun and lively story that can fulfill those moments when you need something lighthearted to read. (Well, if making a vehicle go off the side of a cliff can be termed “lighthearted”.) You can tell the author has a vivid imagination and a unique sense of humor. These qualities kept the story from being run-of-the-mill and trite. They are also what kept me reading.
Grab a copy of the story and keep it on your e-reader for those times when you “just need something . . . “ You won’t be sorry you did. -
Review by JoAnne: This was a cute romance that had lots of laughter and conflict and even a few teary eyed moments. Andrew and Tasha don't set out to find love but they keep getting thrown together in some hard to believe ways. As they get to know each other and spend some time alone while in a resort in Jamaica they end up falling in love which is what neither one wanted. As one is able to make peace with it, the other isn't and runs away. Ultimately there is a happy ending but it took longer to reach than I would have thought. It also wasn't what I would have guessed to be the resolution of getting them together but I was pleased with the result. I've read other books by Maddie James and while this wasn't my favorite of hers it did draw you in and keep me interested in the story without trying too hard. If you're looking for a lighthearted and quick read this would be a good book for you. After reading it you might also like James enough to read some of her other books.
Favorite Quote: "Taking her chin in his hand again, he forced her to look at him. His voice was soft, alluring and calming, but his words held a venom that frightened her. "Tell me you don't love me, Tasha. Say the words. Then I will leave here and forget all of this. I'll forget you. Tell me, because that's the only way I will do it Otherwise, I'll never believe you don't want me. And I won't give up hope, Tasha. Until I hear the words, I will never give up hope."" -
I reviewed this originally for romancing-the-book.com. The review is below:

Maddie James has written many books, I understand. This book is a pretty good example and is well written.
Tasha goes to a Jamaican island for a holiday her mother has paid for. Andrew does the same to the same island that his company has paid for. They meet. they are totally unsuited.
Pretty average tale, with ups and downs, and it all works out, just what you expect. Ms James does it very well and if you like romantic tales together with some loving you'll like this. -
I really wanted to love this book, but it was just a little too trite for me. Usually a wildly different couple coming together is just what I love when I want a sweet little romance. This just didn't work for me. I was bored. I skimmed. I rarely skim. I like most of this author's book so I stuck with it. It just wasn't there for me.

Very quirky characters which were enough to make the story interesting. Of course very predictable, but that wasn't a detractor. Lots of funny situations that were unexpected, even a few painfully contrived. A good book to read at the beach or on a cold rainy day.

This book is funny; I just love two people who are so wrong for each other that they have to be right.

This is an average romance, set in the west and in Jamaica. Opposites attract in this story. Slow to start, and quick to end. The female character is a little weak, while the strong business man doesn't stay strong for long.
-
This is a story of opposites attract. It's refreshing that the conservative one is the man and the wild one is the woman. Funny, moving romance that even the most opposite people can fall in love.

A beach read....that you expect to be better than it is. It starts out good but quickly fizzles.

Did I really just waste my time on this?
