This was one those reads that was okay in the moment, but which I had no problem putting down to do the dishes. In fact, it's one of those books which reminds me to be grateful to goodreads for keeping track of my reads...so I don't accidentally buy it in a year when I've completely forgotten I've read it.

The characters were decent enough, but their chemistry was lacking for me. I just wasn't feeling it, sadly. The side characters were also flat and wooden.

Also, in many ways, this read like an amalgamation of different movies, TV shows, and books series I've read/seen in the past.

The book takes place in a world where vampires are now known to the human world and have their own governing agency, etc., a la True Blood...The heroine stands out to the hero because , the hero gets the heroine a makeover and flies her off for a date on his fancy helicopter, a la Pretty Woman, the hero runs his own ridiculously popular nightclub, a la Lucifer, and - the most cliche - the hero brings out the dessert tray AKA the chocolate sauce as sex props, a la every cliche romance EVER.

I won't be continuing with the series and, while I didn't hate it, I also wouldn't really recommend it either. I'd be pretty annoyed if I paid for this one, actually. But, It might just be me. I've been in a bit of a slump lately and lots of my friends really liked it.

If you want a paranormal romance that's a bit different then perhaps this offering will tick all your boxes. I can honestly say I loved it even if at times I did want perhaps a touch more information about Naia and her inner Siren. She's always been there to protect her brother but he's got himself in so much trouble that only a shady deal with a Vampire can help him or can it ? Naia might have started out trying to get a singing job whilst spying on Cortez but the instant, pulsating attraction they share pretty soon leads her away from everything she knows to a place where her Siren might take control !
This story had everything I wanted romance, suspense and even some mystery. I was blown away by the passion this couple shared and like Naia at times I felt very confused by Cortez. It's part of a series so perhaps the other stories might answer any questions I'm left with but for now I can say there's a happy ending so what more could I ask for ?
This is a voluntary take on a book I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Keeping His Siren is book 4 in the Creatures of Darkness series. It has been years since I have read a book by this author but I couldn't resist when I read the description. It is definitely a stand alone and very enjoyable. I'm not usually a fan of a relationship beginning with a deceit but Naia was the worse spy so I gave her a pass. I loved Cortez, his protective and possessiveness was something that I always enjoy. Now what didn't work for me is that the middle felt slow and some of the scenes were repetitive. Overall fans of PNR would definitely enjoy but don't expect anything new or different which was fine for me. I definitely plan to keep my eye on this author again.

Naia DeVoe has just taken up the role of spy and she hates it, but in order to get her brother out of a bind she's agreed to infiltrate vampire Cortez's club and find evdience of his nefarious deeds. What she doesn't count on is the undeniable attraction she feels for him, an attraction that means she finds herself in his bed very quickly.

As the leader of his clan, Cortez is very careful with who he gives his trust to, from the moment he saw Naia he wants her, but the question is, is his trust misplaced or has he finally found the woman meant to be his.

This was a nice enough one time read, but honestly wanted a bit more oomph when it came to the romance and action. It was a fairly easy read to put down, although it made for a good break from work.

Let's face it, I'm TOTALLY late to the game. Not only is this book over a year old, but the series started earlier than that. So why am I so late? Beats me. But I found this on NetGalley and couldn't resist. To be honest, I'm glad I waited. This seems to be the book that collaborates ALL of the installations in to one book. So yeah, this is basically three books in one. SCORE!!!

Naia is pretty much screwed. Why? Because she's caught between a rock and seriously attraction hard place. Her brother is in financial trouble with the absolute wrong people and her current boss seems to know it. So he offers her a chance to spy on a competitor, earning her a hefty sum that could save her bro. But once she meets the competitor, the money just doesn't seem worth it. Too bad it's too late anyway...

Cortez is the owner of the best night club in town and Sire to his clan. Everyone seems to want to work at his club, but he follows strict personal rules. So when Naia waltzes in searching for a job, the answer is a quick no. But not for the reasons you might think. In fact, he's not even 100% sure the reasons until it's too late.

Like I mentioned before, this book is all three installations of this series put together. Funny, because when I read this, I didn't know that. But it all makes sense now because there were times when I felt like I finished one story just to start another. Not that I'm complaining, it just makes sense now.

The chemistry between Cortez and Naia is off the charts smokin hot. I mean, hello, vampire. The story line was intriguing throughout and kept me glued to the pages as well. But it was the relationships between the clan members, Naia and even her brother that warmed my heart. The banter between them was refreshing and added to the effect of the overall story. All in all, this was a perfect way to enjoy the entire series in one sitting.

I lOVE paranormal romance and I loved this one too. Immediately after reading it, I read the Vampire's Masquerade and now I'm PATIENTLY waiting for more Ever Night books.
There are five books in the series. But the first three have a different back story than the last two, which take place in the Ever Nights hotel.
Naia was strong, loving and witty. I loved her relationship with her brother. The chemistry between Naia and Cortez was too much. Every scene with them together was exciting. Cortez was so cute. It was always funny whenever he asked Naia what was she thinking. Cole was a perfect brother, funny and a pain in the ass for Naia. His threats to Cortez and his animosity with him were enjoyable to read. The plot was intriguing. I don't know how Kristen did it, but this is the first series in which I need a book on EVERY.SINGLE.CHARACTER. If we're talking about preferences, put Dane first on the list.

  • Sissy's Romance Book Review

Keeping His Siren by Kiersten Fay is book 4 in the Creatures of Darkness. This is the story of Naia and Cortez. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Naia is a Siren and Cortez is a vampire. When Naia is talked into trying to get a job with Cortez to spy on him she goes forward to try for the money that would be paid to her. Cortez is attracted to her and Naia to him...so instead of a job they end up with a week long pact. But the longer Naia is around Cortez she knows she can't spy on him which sets off a violent reaction from her boss.
    Enjoyed their story.

  • Mary Kirkland

Naia has a beautiful voice thanks to being descendant from Sirens. She and her brother both work in a club and what little money they make is going to pay off the gambling debts her brother accrued from the mobsters. Neither of them seem to be able to make more money because everyone was hurting because of the human/vampire wars that wiped out a lot of people and made it hard to live or make ends meet these days. So Dante, her boss at the club makes a deal with her. He wants her to get hired at another club owned by a vampire and report back anything weird that goes on over there. She's hired as a spy and Dante says he'll pay her good money to keep the mob bosses off her brother's back and hopefully from breaking his fingers for not paying off his debt.

Naia tries to get a job at Cortez's club but he's so taken with her that he decides he wants to date her instead and he doesn't date anyone who works for him so getting a job is out the window even though she keeps trying to get one. Their romance and budding relationship is sweet, hot, sexy and carnal because he's a vampire and very much alpha.

Cortez is the owner of the other club that Naia is hired to spy on but he's nice, sexy and intriguing so when they get to know another better and he's very much interested in her, she knows she can't keep the truth from him but when he finds out she was sent there as a spy, he turns on her. All hell breaks loose pretty much after he finds out why she's really there and all sorts of other things happen right after that. I don't want to say more because that would give too much away but there are several heart stopping scenes.

This book was everything I could have wanted between a vampire and a siren. The danger of having the mob after the brother because he owed them money as well as Naia's sleazy boss threatening her to spy on Cortez was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to danger in this story. The twists, turns and crazy circumstances all came together to make one hell of an intriguing book. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. This was my first book from this author but it definitely won't be my last.

Disclosure: I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley but all opinions and thoughts are my own.

This is the fourth book in the Creatures of Darkness series by Kiersten Fay.

This is a paranormal romance between a vampire and a siren.I would call it a paranormal romantic suspense book. This title really draws you in as you follow Naia into the club owned by the mysterious Cortez. Naia needs money to pay off her brother’s debt and the only way to do that was to take this job.

This book has a bit of a resemblance to the True Blood series by Charlaine Harris. We have a character who can read minds: Cortez the vampire, and a woman, Naia the siren, who calms his senses since for some reason he cannot read her mind. So, if you enjoyed True Blood, you will definitely like this.

I spent a lot of the book impatiently waiting to see what would happen when Cortez learned that Naia was spying on him for his competition. It turns out to be even worse than either Naia or Cortez imagined when the vampire council is called in to investigate Cortez. He was set up perfectly.

I am curious to read more books in this series since I am not sure if the same characters move from book to book. Definitely a winner in the paranormal romance department. You get enough of the sexy to appease those who like that and enough of the story/mystery/suspense to appease the rest of us.

If you like romantic suspense, try this out. If you like paranormal, this is one you will want to pick up.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

    TOTALLY CAPTIVATING !!!
Title: Keeping His Siren (Ever Nights Chronicles)
    Series: Creatures of Darkness
    Author: Kiersten Fay
Designation: Book Four of Series, Full-Length Standalone Paranormal Romance, NO Cliffhanger(Originally published in March and April 2017 as a two-part serialized story but now released in a single edition)
    Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
    My Rating: Five Sexy Stars*****
OMG! I loved, loved, loved this book! Where have you been, Kiersten Fay, and why have I never read any of your books before now?!? Double shame on me, but in my defense, I had no idea what I was missing! This may have been my first time reading the work of Kiersten Fay, but it certainly won't be my last! But let's talk details!

Keeping His Siren is an exciting, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, exceptionally well-crafted and edited, full-length standalone paranormal tale filled to the brim with heart-stopping danger, riveting drama, nail-biting suspense, agonizing angst, intriguing characters, flirty humor, steamy passion, and dreamy romance. The setting for the story is a somewhat dystopian future, caused by a century of wars between vampires and humans after vampires revealed themselves to the world. There isn't an extensive amount of world building in this story, which could be due to the fact I haven't read the first three books, but there's still enough information and backstory to satisfy my insatiable curiosity. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with a single perspective from our sexy, seductress protagonist Naia Devoe. Okay, first let me say I generally prefer, at least, his and her perspectives in any kind of romance, whether it's paranormal or contemporary, fiction or non. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I like to know what's going on in the mind of the hero and heroine of the story. More often than not, with only a single perspective, I find it hard to connect with both protagonists, especially the one who doesn't have a point of view or as I like to say, a voice. But I'll admit, Fay did an exceptional job conveying the feelings of the male protagonist Cortez through dialogue, but Fay also used his lack of perspective to build on the allure and mystery of his character. Very insightful and remarkably well done! After only one book, Fay has completely changed my way of thinking about stories with single perspectives and may have made me a convert. lol... The dialogue is smart, snappy, seductive, at times quite humorous, well executed, and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, the crowning jewel of this seductive tale is the large cast of intriguing, somewhat quirky, and very engaging characters. I've always loved paranormal romance featuring vampires but surprisingly, this is only my second time reading a book featuring a siren. And wow, Naia is quite the character with the perfect combination of inner strength, street smarts, flirty sass, charming innocence, beguiling inexperience, spellbinding beauty, captivating sex appeal, and unquestioning loyalty to those she loves. Of course, her love interest Cortez, owner of Ever Nights Hotel and Club and the vampire she's instructed to spy on, is no slouch himself. Cortez is quite an enigma throughout the story, to both Naia and the reader. Fay kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out if Cortez was good or bad, and whether he was just another womanizer or his attraction to Naia was sincere, all the while hoping for Naia's sake that he's one of the good guys. I'll admit, by not knowing Cortez's thoughts (again, very smart Kiersten Fay), there were a few times I was quite worried about his motives as well as Naia's safety, but Naia and Cortez were actually perfect together and complimented each other brilliantly. I could actually feel the attraction between these two characters when they met and it became more intense every time they were together. Their interaction was mesmerizing, smoking' hot, quite often hilarious, and nothing short of, well, magical. Never fear my lovelies, Cortez may not have had his own perspective, but by the end of the story, we definitely find out how he feels! No spoilers from me but I will say this.... A beautiful siren with secrets, literally compelled to sing for her life, who is now in desperate need of money to help her younger brother and willing to do almost anything, including becoming a spy, to save him-check! A handsome, wealthy, powerful, and very jaded vampire hotel/club owner with enemies who no longer believes in love-check! Danger, suspense, evil machinations, and a few deadly foes-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, steamy sex, and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!

Did I like this book? No, I loved it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes. And FYI, Keeping His Siren is the fourth release in Faye's Creatures of Darkness Series but the first book of the Ever Night Chronicles. It is full-length (approximately 300 to 320 pages) and can be read as a standalone but ends at the 82% location of the book. The author has included an extended excerpt from A Wicked Hunger, the first book of the series. As I stated earlier, this is my first time reading Fay's work so I haven't read the first three books - yet, but had no trouble at all following this story. Will I read this author again! Absolutely! After reading the included sample of Book One, I intend to race back to Amazon to grab the first three books, and I definitely plan to read Book Five as soon as it's released. Hopefully, we'll find out more about Naia's brother Cole in the next story! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fun, flirty, satisfying, and very entertaining! A delightful read! Well done, Kiersten Fay!

  • BookAddict ✒ La Crimson Femme

A woman with a voice who can seduce and lure men to their death. This immediately captures my attention as I love to read all mythical water related creatures. My first intro into the Creatures of Darkness series, this is a great one. I'm hooked within the first few pages of this book. I like Naia. She is a determined sister who is loyal to her brother and will do anything to save him. This places her in a difficult predicament. She needs to find a job with Cortez. For readers who have read the first three books in this series, they will have met Cortez briefly. This book can be read as a standalone as it contains nothing to further Coraline's story in the first three books.

In this fourth book, Ms. Fay's writing is improved. I noticed the difference in this story as it is more tightly written with more plot and character development. There is still a good amount of sexy time. The focus is instead on Naia and her goal to earn enough money to pay their debts. What she doesn't know is how she is being used as a pawn. This story had two plots going at once which I enjoyed. I won't say I was shocked by the second underlying thread. I will say I was pleasantly surprised how all the threads came together into a complete ending. Learning more about this world and the how the supernatural creatures interact helped make this more rich. I really enjoyed the Siren element. Ms. Fay did an excellent job of blending the needs of a siren into Naia's character.

From an erotic standpoint, Ms. Fay can crank up the heat. The sexual chemistry between Naia and Cortez is smoking hot. Their sexual interludes are delicious and just a spicy enough to capture my jaded attention. There is always a bit of dominance play when it comes to vampires and it works quite well in this story. This paranormal romance is recommended to erotic readers who enjoy watching the sparks fly between a siren and her vampire.

    Review to come!

  • Marlou Klijn

When I first read this in June 2020, this book was one of my first paranormal romance novels. I wasn't yet used to smut, and didn't know how much I would come to love the romance genre. Two years later I'm mostly reading smutty romances with a couple fantasy books thrown in the mix and I felt like it was time for a reread.

This book was just as good as I remembered it. It's not over the top WOWZA, but the relationships are very healthy, the plot very realistic, even though it's about vampires and Naia is a siren. The smut is very tastefully written and though it's a big part of the story, it's not the main part. How Naia and Cortez build up their relationship is very wholesome, if not a tad fast paced.

It's just a very wholesome book and I love Kiersten's writing. Giving this book 3,5 stars just like last time.

    Read June 2020
Rating: 3,5 out of 5 stars

Oh my what a lovely book! I’ve been getting into paranormal romance over the last year and I’m not regretting my decision to pick up that first book.

Keeping His Siren has a good, strong storyline which leaves you wanting more. I tried to savor this book, but I just flew through it (time flies when you’re having fun).

All the characters has a proper and well thought out personality. Only the MC was given a tight backstory, but that is fine considering we, the reader, read from her perspective and she doesn’t know every single detail about people either.

This book is full of smut (duh) but where with any mature fanfiction things are a little over the top Kiersten did a wonderful job at showing just how magical (and primal) sex can be. She wrote every mature scene in a very tasteful way. What I also love is the fact that the author didn’t overdo it. Yes, there was a lot of sex, but there weren’t too many scenes with it. Again, the amount of descriptive scenes was tasteful.

This book was provided to me by Netgalley.

Keeping His Siren is part of Kiersten Fay’s Creatures of Darkness series. Naia is a siren. A mythical being with a voice that can enthral any man. She has been hired to spy on Cortez, one of the oldest and most powerful vampires there is but from the very first she feels something for him. An attraction that is reciprocated by Cortez but how will he react when he finds out Naia’s real reason for wanting to sing in his club.

I liked this book but I didn’t love it. I felt that there was a lot left unexplained such as exactly what happened to cause the estrangement between Cortez and his sire. I realise this book is part of a series and as such, this might be covered more fully in a later book but it was the same with what happened between Cortez and Dante which, to my mind, is relevant to the story but isn’t really gone into in any depth. I also felt there was something missing when Cortez finds out that Naia is a siren but doesn’t seem to question it. I did love the secondary characters at Ever Nights and will be reading more from this series to see what’s in store for them.

    Siren
    Creatures of Darkness #4
    By Kiersten Fay
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Naia DeVoe is a siren who never mixes business with pleasure as a rule so when she ends up with the vampire she is being paid to spy on she goes against the very rule that has always sustained her. Naia ends up making a pact if you will with that same vampire who seems very drawn to her.

Cortez is a vampire and the leader of his clan and as such he is very weary and also careful with who he trusts. He never let's anyone get close to him as a rule until he meets a beautiful siren named Naia. He is drawn to her in a way he has never been drawn to anyone. Now he has doubts as he's not quite sure if she is the one hes been searching for or if she will be just another woman who will end up betraying him in the end.

Kiersten Fay is a new author to me and one I will definitely read from again. This was a great paranormal romance. Naia was a strong character who could also be quite loving and Cortez was just a sweet guy underneath. Naia also has a brother who lives with her and he was like any normal brother. Naia and Cortez had amazing chemistry together. All in all it was a good book and I enjoyed it.

  • Ola Adamska

Give me a piece of very good paranormal romance where characters are reasonable and had been true in their creation. Add to it the good plot that could keep you on toes. Mix all above and I have a great pleasurable read.
Naia is a siren. Yes, a siren - siren voice. You know how it works from mythology, right? And she has to spy on Cortez, but why? What is going on? Is she strong enough to go thru with the plan?
Cortez - a clan leader, a powerful vampire. Yet little siren makes him feel more. Why is that? I loved his character with all my force for his strength and love.
I hope the next books in the series will follow up soon!

First off, I like the cover I thought it was super sexy. Love the page markers. Very elegant. I was a bit baffled by the main character's name, Naia Devoe. I thought a better one could've been chosen. One that made a little more mainstream sense. I loved the character descriptions. But my biggest point is I feel like the strip club atmosphere definitely cheapens the story a bit. I'm not a fan of it. I am however a fan of the instant chemistry between the characters but also not a fan of the slow burn that feels a bit tedious after a while. All in all, I liked it for the most part, but I still felt it was lacking for me. 4/5 stars.

  • Book Ninja

Hell of a sweet and sexy paranormal romance, with some suspense and even some mystery. It is like sugar-kink romance with great chemistry between main characters. He is super rich and handsome and she is beautiful siren trying to save her brother. I liked them both and they were good together despite some ups and downs. I would like to know more about her siren. Naia's personality was fun and I liked how she embraced their relationship with both hands. The plot was predictable but sweet nonetheless.

  • Crissy

I love paranormal romances and this story did not disappoint. I enjoyed Naia and Cortez characters. There was never a dull moment when these two were near each other and I enjoyed every minute of it. Their story was one that was full of flirty and steamy moments, romance, and moments of suspense. I enjoyed this story a lot and I love it even more being that it was a standalone story because I did not read the previous books in this series. However, I definitely look forward to reading the other books, and I will be recommending this one to everyone I know that enjoy paranormal romance reads.

  • ~Vixhen~

This was my first book by Kiersten Fay, and I loved it. This one had a hot alpha male (and he's a vampire - score extra points), a strong female who could go toe to toe with said alpha (plus she's a siren), and sexual chemistry that was out of the world! Tasked by her boss to spy on Cortez, Naia soon finds herself caught between trying to pay off her brother's debt and stopping herself from falling for the hot vampire club owner. I loved the story line, which had a surprise twist. The characters were well written and very likable. The book made me very interested in the Ever Night world, so I'll definitely be checking the next book.

3.5 mi aspettavo un po’ di più sulla questione sirena, dato che voleva tenerlo nascosto così tanto ma alla fine comunque è stata una bella storia piacevole da leggere

  • Shawna Danea Sears

This is the fifth book by Kiersten Fay that I have read (all of Shadow Quest came first) and she has yet to fail at getting me sucked in and keeping me from setting the kindle down! I swear, I looked up and realized I'd been reading for four hours at one point and had to make myself put it down to stretch and drink water just in case I seized up mid-story. Gulped it down in less than two days all told.

To give you a quick run down... The story is about a siren, her wayward brother, and a wealthy, old, and very jaded vampire. Please note: not your typical vampire story, though it had all the fun elements in there. The characters were all absolutely lovable (some of them in a shake your head and sigh way, but still) and at the same time fun and interesting. To be frank, this book, though the driving factor was paranormal, definitely leaned more into romance than paranormal. Just some spice to make it good.

I highly recommend this book! Seriously, you don't know what you're missing.

  • Darcy

Hot, Hot, Hot. I loved this story and Kiersten Fay is an amazing, fabulous, superb writer. I loved the story of Naia and Cortez. Together they have the most explosive chemistry that will make your fingers burn. LOL This has a some action, mystery, drama, suspense, and even romance. There is some humor that will have you laughing in your book. I love how well developed the characters are as well. They have so much personality that it leaps off the "page". This is definitely worth reading and it will not disappoint you. You won't be able to put it down until you reach the end of the book. Then you are going to wish you had more to read because it is just that good. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book

  • Patti

After a few chapters I was hooked into this storyline like a starved fish! A vampire/siren pairing totally delivered all the action and danger you could imagine. Explosive! This author truly delivered when it came to the heat between these characters. I have found many books delved too long for my taste on the erotica, but this story had the right balance between heat and storyline. I started off thinking I could read a few chapters and enjoy this book for a few days, but this author had different plans and greedily held me captive! To make matters worse, it is now permanently stuck in my head....must read what is up with Dane and the rescued girl. So hope that’s next in line! Amazing tale that I am truly glad that it crossed my path!

well. so i did a thing. a thing i don't normally do, which is read books out of order. however. however. this was an exception.

we have a somewhat post-vampire/human war world where vampires mostly run high ranking positions and humans, well humans are there is suppose. i would probably know more if i read the other ones first but hey, this was a good stand-a-lone.

lots of smut and sexy times so this is jennymort approved.

I highly recommend Keeping His Siren. It is a great story with lots of romance and surprises. I love the characters. Naia tells the story and you are drawn in to the tale. Cortez is a mysterious vampire that enthralls the siren. She has a job to do but her feelings make it impossible for her to fulfill her mission. There are lots of ups and downs in the story and it really keeps your interest.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy i received,

  • Fantasy Beyond Pages

Kiersten Fay! Why didn't I know of you sooner? Naia is a strong woman with a unique ability, she fights for what she wants and doesn't cave nor does she play by anyone else's rules. She's amazingly well written like all characters are. Also Cortez was not what I thought he would be. He's not your typical alpha trying to boss the female character around nor does he tell her what to do. His actions are plausible and don't seem like he's letting his alpha male side show just to prove he can.

This was a 3-alarm steamy, original tale about survival, trust, family sacrifice, friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, hope, and love. I can’t remember ever reading about sirens before, and the only thing that would have made the book better would be if Naia had soothed the woman rescued from the hunter with a tender lullaby. This was my first Kiersten Fay book, and I enjoyed every page,

I was given a free copy of Keeping His Siren, but that did not affect my review.
