Novak Djokovic: The Biography Reviews

  • Jack Heaton

A solid story of how Novak came to become what he is today and the people and environments that shaped him. The influence of the NATO bombings and general public opinion of Serbia on him are clearly relevant and well explained, but it does feel like the book goes too far into the history of Serbia and other sport into the country to the point where it becomes confusing and you are unsure how it ties in to Novak himself.

Another unfortunate but uncontrollable downside is that the book is out of date, since Djokovic is now level with and may yet go clear of Federer and Nadal for men’s singles grand slam titles, which changes everything. Overall an insightful book considering the limited access the author had, but it’s probably worth waiting for Novak to write his autobiography after his tennis career is over if you are after the full story.

I believe that Chris Bowers has the talent to make a very interesting and successful sportsman sound like the most boring man in history. Shame really as with more character, this book could have been amazing.
