J.K. Rowlings Wizarding WorldThe Dark Arts Reviews

  • The Story Girl

Unlike a lot of the other movie tie-ins, this book actually had a little bit of new material: there was a letter enclosed from Dumbledore to Grindelwald! In it, Dumbledore agrees with Grindelwald that because they have magical power, it gives them the right to rule, BUT it comes with responsibilities. He says, "We seize control for THE GREATER GOOD." And he says when we meet resistance, "we must use only the force that is necessary and no more." We also learn that Grindelwald first went to Durmstrang but was expelled, which Dumbledore is thankful for because that is what allowed the two to meet.

So there is a lot more to Dumbledore's story, and I hope this is expounded in the upcoming movie. I really want to see this discussed somewhere.

Besides that, it does have various ephemera placed throughout the book, and also a page of stickers just like the Diagon Alley book.

A fantastic collectable that comes at the time the Wizarding World of Harry Potter celebrates 20 years of its debut novel - The Philosopher's Stone. In this book, we can learn all about Voldemort, Death Eaters, Horcruxes and Obscuruses through a scrapbook made from the film adaptations. It's an amazing guide to the Dark Arts of the Wizarding World. Packed with wanted posters, stickers and epic swag, it's pretty exciting for any Harry Potter fan! Special thanks to Bloomsbury Publishers for sending me this copy in exchang for my review.

This book is filled with awesomeness!
If you love all things Harry Potter then you'll need this book. It is definitely collection worthy.

Everything that Insight Editions produces is excellent. I love their books, they're so unique and interesting. It's difficult not to like them and buy them. I wish they would send me books to review, but I'm not that cool......... yet. LOL ^_^

  • Missi

This was a really fun one, and, as a Slytherin, showcased a lot of my faves. Filled with interesting info, and full of neat ephemera. A worthy volume for any witch or wizard interested in the Dark Arts. :)

  • jessica ☾

This was such a neat companion to the series! Unlike the usual, it actually had quite a bit of new information, rather than just completely repetitive. I would love to see more like this.

  • Katie

Cool collection, but it didn’t really focus on the dark arts the entire time. The fantastic beasts stuff felt out of place.

  • Amanda Carr

Fun movie-tie in for the most devout Harry Potter fans.

  • Julie

I love this book! It is full of all the nerdy information I've been craving.
The perfect book for any Potterhead.

  • Andrea López

Enjoyed this short and quick read very much. Loved how it provides a deeper insight into the wizarding world.

  • Pau Peña

As all Rowling’s book, this one couldn’t disappoint, but I was expecting more of it as an explanation of the Dark Arts than an explanation of how they pictured them in the movie.

It helped me to remember several things I’ve forgotten throughout the seven books, and the first part of the book is quite good explaining some concepts. It is more like a dictionary, which is not a bad thing.

But, the second part is about the making of the film, that I think should be part of another book, because this is suppose to be part of the students’ books. So… it just gets me a little bit confuse.

But, I love JK Rowling and this still is a marvelous book.

Pobre de información y con muchas cosas repetidas. Los desplegables y las réplicas si están chulas.

  • Laura Atkinson

Another short , fun Harry Potter scrapbook . Lots of interesting behind the scenes facts .

  • Divya Murugesan Nullathemby

I loved this insight. So many additional information and clarification. I loved the small posters, cards, news clips, etc. As a potterhead, this book brought me lots of happiness.

  • RumBelle

This book explored the dark side of the magical world in both the Harry Potter series, and Fantastic Beasts and where to find them. It chronicled such things as Horcruxes, Lord Voldemort, the Malfoy family and the Obscurus. Each was discussed in detail, both from a movie making point of view, and within the context of the story. For example, with the Obscurus, we learned not only who Credence was, what an Obscurus was, but also what it took to create an Obscurus from a film making perspective.

In contrast, this book also talked about those who fought the Dark forces, namely the Order of the Phoenix, Newt, Tina and Queenie. We learned about their characteristics, and the roles they played within the stories.

The book also had a number of fun interactive elements. Stickers, a deck or cards showing prominent members of the Order of the Phoenix, Sirius, Newt and Tina's wanted posters, Dumbledore's letter to Grindlewald and more. Each of these were either pop up, pull out, or removable items that could be taken out of the book and handled separately.

The illustrations and photographs were spectacular, and the text was engaging, interesting and very well written. The one thing I thought should have been included, but was not, was more about Grindlewald himself. Overall though, a thoroughly excellent book.

Even though I refuse to watch the Harry Potter movies, the information inside and the extras are so incredible that it will add to the books in a way nothing else could. There is also stuff from the 'Fantastic Beast' movie, which i hadn't expected!
There are wanted posters, cards for the Order of the Phoenix, the USA for MASCUSA, a letter to Grindwald from Dumbledore and more. Those are just the attached extras! It is quite amazing how much is packed in this book...I wonder if it is magic?

  • Domini Phillips-Perkins

Can't get enough of these funand entertaining books based on the Harry Potter books and movies. Even though some information may be rehashed the special extras make it worth it. Filled with unique props and stickers to make any Potter fan ecstatic with bookish glee. Perfect for Harry Potter fans young and old.

  • Ashley Beery

For any Potter fan this is a must read. Such wonderful little details about the movies and how set designs went together, inspirations, etc. There's so much to read and see in this book that you won't want to miss out on reading it.

  • Jessica Schramm

It was fun to read and look at all of the cool pictures and surprises inside. However, this is all from the books. There was no new information. That was a big let down but I did enjoy learning about how they brought the dark arts to life.

  • Sarah

A nice companion to all the Harry Potter stuff I have. Not a necessary book to have on the shelf but still interesting to thumb through. I really enjoyed the letters that were included, definitely bumped the rating up a star!

  • Remy Rodriguez

I really love all the behind the scenes info on the movies and the awesome concept art and the look at the creative process behind bringing HP and Fantastic Beasts. And the extra lore and world building is amazing.

  • Puck

De losse extra's zijn leuk, maar er is niets nieuw geschreven. Geen uitgebreide informatie en ineens springt de informatie over van Harry Potter naar Fantastic Beasts. Geen aanrader als je al andere informatie boeken hebt!

  • Ellie Wyatt

learned a few things i actually didn't know and loved all the little minalima extras!

  • Harley

Fun book that rehashes the dark arts. Definite highlight is the fun posters, letters, maps, etc tucked into the book.

  • Tree

LOVED IT!!! Getting all that behind the scenes info that we aren't suppose to know or want to know, but we do :-D
