Giada's Italy: My Recipes for La Dolce Vita: A Cookbook Reviews

I own a lot of cookbooks and have watched many cooking shows over the years....so I know from experience that I love Giada's food.
Hers is always the recipes I turn to for classic Italian dishes....I like her flavor profiles and she always manages the right balance of ingredients in a recipe.....for example her Chicken Piccata (not included in this book) has just the right amount of fresh lemon juice to chicken broth...it tastes just the way I like it every time.
Many of her recipes have become old standbys for me...and I have no doubt that I am going to find many more in this book...I have already tagged multiples with Post-it's.
I rated this cookbook with 5 stars as I can already tell that I will be tackling more of these recipes than I do with most of my cookbooks....plus I really enjoyed the read.......there were maybe just a few too many photos of the author but I genuinely enjoyed all the photo's of Italy and there were certainly enough photo's of the food to satisfy my book requirements....though ideally I would love to see one of every dish included. -
I checked this book out from the local library. The layout is easy to read, with colorful pictures of delicious dishes and working locals. The ingredients description at the start was very helpful. I also liked how Giada broke down the recipes into different categories and showed other food pairings with some of the smaller dishes. There’s about a handful of dishes I’m excited to try, especially the creamy sweet corn with pancetta, white chocolate orzo pudding, and the Barolo-braised short ribs. The sartu di riso-very basic explanation ...a bundt pan mold of rice stuffed with sausage including herbs and and cheese!...also looked amazing. I just need an excuse to make a large dish!

Giada's Italy has so dozens of great looking recipes, and beautiful pictures of food and Florence. I have to say I have never gone wrong with any of her former cookbooks, so even though I haven't tried any recipes yet, I'm pretty confident I'm going to like what I make. In the meantime, I'm happily eating with my eyes. This is keeping me psyched up to cook and may be my favorite Giada book so far.

It's hard to rate a cookbook at 5 stars when you haven't tried all the recipes, but for purely a reading and visual experience this is a 5-star book. The photographs are beautiful and I bookmarked well over half the recipes to try. And Giada's dresses!

This cookbook offers readers an opportunity to learn about the culture, family traditions, and food of another country. De Laurentiis begins each recipe with an anecdote about how the recipe was inspired by her Italian family and experiences. She also mentions her daughter, Jade, significantly throughout the book. There is an overwhelming sense that this cookbook is a love letter to Jade about the heritage and traditions of De Laurentiis’s home country. Some of the cultural differences between Italy and America are sprinkled throughout this cookbook. She writes about how Americans serve pizza in slices for meals, and Italians consider pizza in-between snacks; they are cut in rectangles and sold by weight. She also talks about how Italians drink strong coffee all day, while Americans drink espresso “stretched” with hot water. De Laurentiis describes sweets as something Italians reserve for special occasions and less sweet than American desserts. The cookbook features beautiful photographs of Italian architecture, photos of De Laurentiis and her family in and around Rome, and of course – Italian food! An interesting observation is that this cookbook does not contain a section for breakfast foods, although she does share a Fennel Upside Down Cake in the “Sweets” chapter that she mentions her family served with coffee for Sunday brunch. This book gives you a sense of the intimacy of Italian families and their cherished traditions surrounding food, and makes you feel like you can make them a part of your life, too!

I've always liked watching Giada's cooking shows on Food Network because she makes everything look so good - even if it's things I don't like to eat, it still looks good! In this cookbook Giada takes us to her native Rome and shares some recipes inspired by that part of Italy. It's designed like a typical cookbook with starters, lunch, snacks, main dishes, dessert, etc. There are definitely a few dishes I'd like to try in this one. Overall, another solid cookbook from Giada De Laurentiis.

The cookbook contains some easy, healthy recipes that I'll actually use. She uses a lot of fresh and healthy ingredients that are easy to find and put together. I like cookbooks with photos of each dish, too.

A beautiful book, but the recipes are a bit too adventurous for us !! -
This isn't my favorite of Giada's many cookbooks. I know this is more for herself then the American public she is used to cooking for. I won't be making anything from it.

If you enjoy the recipes on Giada in Italy you will enjoy this book. IMO, better than her 3 previous books and more in line with her original Italian cookbooks. Glad to have Giada back!
