Profound Simplicity: Foundations for a Social Philosophy Reviews

What if you assumed that everything in your life was defined by your own choices?
For me, that is the main invitation made by the book. I perceived it to be very honest: "I don't have the means to metaphysically justify the principle for you, but what would happen with your own perception if you assumed it was true?"
Assuming responsibility in that sense seems at first to be very harsh, but at the same time, at least for me, opens possibilities to recognize what is happening and move towards change, if it is desired.
Other thing that stuck with me was the anedocte that Schutz tells us about his own relationship with his son:
"Dad, I want to quit school. It is not making sense for me."
"But son, let's take a moment to reflect on it."
"How come you make lots of talks about the failure of our education system and now is telling me that I should reflect on it?"
This little story, rewritten in my own words, brought the reflection of the gap between something I can grasp in my mind, but that will be incorporated only when faced with a real decision point that is really meaningful.
With that being said, it is your own choice to read it or not :P -
This is a book I read over and over again. I have a dozen or so that are in this category.
Every time I read Will's words, I see something new about the simplicity of life and my relationship with it.
I was fortunate to have worked with Will and this book was my first glimpse into his engagement of living.
It is frank, insightful, challenging and timeless.
Most books that talk about a person experiences in exploring their consciousness tend to their egos view. Will doesn't fall into that trap and guides the reader on many approaches to finding integrity and opening awareness.
