I thought the crabs looked a bit too sci-fi. But the story is pretty good, and I love the facts at the end.

    Fun and educational

I love this sweet story about an unusual friendship between a cat and a rooster. They enjoy the beach together and meet sea creatures. The author does a great job explaining what may seem scary about these creatures is something that has a purpose. She explains in a fun way what each creature does that makes them special. Great messages for everyone and told in a fun way! Beautiful illustrations!

A wonderful easy read illustration that every creature has special talents, in fact real superpowers.

I loved reading this book. And I am sure little children will adore this and grab it again and again.
The idea for this couple of friends, a rooster and cat, going to watch sunrise every morning is so amazing. These friends start to tell each other what super powers they have. Then they meet a crab, a strange-looking fish and a shark. First they were afraid these creatures would harm them. But they started talking and learned there was no reason to be afraid. Everybody had her/his own superpowers.

The illustrations are just wonderful, vivid and went so well with the story. I also loved the repetition in the text. I think this is very good for little children, it sounded like a song.

After the story the writer asked some questions to the reader. What superpower they liked the best, what are their own superpowers and what are those from their friends. This is fantastic because it help kids to have extra attention to the morals in this story. The invitation to have a practice to cock-a-doodle-dazzle makes all so playful.
And on top of that, Alma Hammond gives some more fun facts.

This is a topbook for all little ones, and maybe you as adult, will love it just as I did. I’m very convinced to give ‘Super Rooster and Wonder Cat’ 5 stars.

This book teaches elementary children about friendship and the value of diversity. Two friends, a cat, and a rooster meet every day at sunrise on the beach to practice their special powers. For the rooster that means crowing, and for the cat using his climbing skills. As the story continues new creatures are introduced, a crab, a stingray, and a shark. While the powers of some of these animals could be dangerous, as long as each respects the rights of others, he or she can remain friends.

Beautiful illustrations, lively dialogue, and simple text make the tale a good candidate for a read aloud or bedtime story. Discussion questions following the tale ask children about their own superpowers, those of friends, and how they might use them.

I adore unusual animal friendships. We have both chickens and cats and I love when they 'get along' This book kept both my three and six year old girls captivated. It is a sweet story with a great underlying story about being yourself, embracing your own superpower, and making friends with all sorts of creatures. I love the fun facts and the questions at the end. Every moment is a learning moment.

I loved this little book :) It's inspiring children and parents to see that special something in every one of us. It's important to appreciate and honour our own uniqueness and that even though we are all different, we can contribute to the world and better living. Can't wait for more books from Alma :)

    An unusual pair

The combination of a rooster and a cat on the beach is a great ear!y reading book, because of repetitive sentences. Children love to be able to guess what's next. The story is about how each being has special talents.
Beautiful illustrations enhance the story page by page. At the end are some fun facts of the sea creatures rooster and cat encounter, a great learning device.

This book is a very delightful story! The artwork is wonderful! Learning about the different animals like the coconut crab, shark and stingray was very interesting. This is a great book for teaching children about animals in the ocean and appreciating their "super powers". This book also does a lovely job teaching children about friendship. What a delightful combination of friends in Super Rooster and Wonder Cat!!

    Great children's book

I liked the fact that the characters had super powers. Children can find out about geography, ocean life, a rooster, a cat and who they relate to for a lively discussion.

  • Sue Poduska

Based on the author’s observation of an unlikely pair of friends while on honeymoon in Bora Bora, this imaginative story speculates about what a rooster and a cat might encounter as they venture forth.

  • Julie Schooler

Interesting title, lovely illustrations and simple but fun story. Recommended.

  • Anna Payne

    Beautiful book shares interesting facts

A great story about ocean life. What are your super powers? A question used to explain how different animals live.
