Excited to have Barney starting their first week at the camp, the Roanokes run over to the Zodiac cabin, only to find everyone turned to stone! Between strange shadows and Diane being back, it looks like April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are going to have their hands full trying to find a cure for their friends . . . as long as they don’t look the wrong thing in the eye first.
This New York Times bestseller and multiple Eisner Award-winning series is a story of friendship, hardcore lady-types, and kicking a lot of butt. Don’t miss out on the continued adventures of the Lumberjanes written by Shannon Watters and Kat Leyh (Super Cakes) with stories illustrated by Carey Pietsch (Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift).
Lumberjanes, Vol. 8: Stone Cold Reviews

Originally titled 'Cut Loose' but more aptly renamed 'Stone Cold' this volume sees the value of teamwork as the Roanoke Lumberjanes find that they need to make unusual alliances to solve the mystery of the Zodiac Lumberjanes being turned to stone. This volume sees the Greek mythology have it's biggest role, but still works well as the creative team focus just as much on the cast and their character development. It's all good! 7.5 out of 12.
Holy Holy Nakano Takeko. -
Great Volume! This has Ligo the Gorgon, Diane who is Artemis, Athena, Hera, and Zeus; it packs a mythological punch. People are being turned to stone again and the mystery must be solved.
This book is a whole lot of fun. The gist of the story is all about friendship. Making community and supporting those around you. It's all about sticking together and helping people out. It's a fantastic message. The art here was is a little different. The characters have a slightly different look. The colors are bright and popping and the action jumps off the page. I'm HOOKED.
When's #9 coming out? -

Este me ha ENCANTADO. Me han vuelto a meter mitología griega y yo agradecido. Echaba de menos a Diane y su actitud tan sassy. -
This series is still going strong! The only thing missing that I enjoyed from the pervious volumes are the patches the girls would earn. Typically, before each issue a patch would be listed and the requirements for it and this issue they left that out. Greek mythology comes back to play in this story so that is fun. I look forward to the next volume.

This was so cute! I mean Lumberjanes is always really adorable but I kind of forgot because it's been so long since I read it. I really loved the return to Greek mythology as well. Although I'm a bit upset that Barney spent the entire volume turned to stone! I definitely hope we get something focusing more on them in upcoming issues.

Our campers have entered the world of mythology. These books have interesting characters who highlight the importance of friendship.
Excellent art and story! -
I loved how she became friends with Medusa’s daughter. I can’t wait to c the next book!
-
I really loved the mythology in this volume, super fun. I still can't believe I'm 8 volumes in and the series is still so strong! Can't wait to see what's gonna happen in volume 9

Mini Review: This volume, which heavily featured geek mythology, was probably the most fun out of the recent Lumberjanes volumes! Still enjoying this light and fun graphic novel series and excited to read more, if I could do with a bit more cohesion and plot advancement.

Snotty Diane's back, and people are turning to stone. Except, it's not the obvious answer: gorgon. Though there is a gorgon present. The power of friendship proves to be strong enough to solve numerous problems facing the gang, which is of course the way it should be with this series, and Diane's not as bad by the end of the adventure. So, fun and silly, and tons of energy popping off the page.

I love these girls so much this was so good

Someone or something is turning campers to stone. Is Diane responsible? This volume features a very Lumberjanes look at Greek mythology …
I don't want to spoil the ending, but let's just say that it's very satisfying and leave it at that.
Not much else to say, really. Lumberjanes rocks! And if you're not reading it, you’re missing tons of fun. But this is volume 8. You really want to start with volume 1 if you can manage it. Highly recommended! -

Aah this one was so much fun and might be my new favorite? I loved it so much?? -
The Lumberjanes keep running into monsters. When their Zodiak friends have turned to stone they know there has to be a gorgon involved. Fighting with your eyes closed is easier said than done!
Themes: greek mythology, Artemis, gorgons, turning to stone.
4 stars -
A solid addition to the Lumberjanes series. This one made me laugh out loud numerous times and was such a fun read.
-
I'm a nerd for mythology, even if it doesn't necessarily seem to fit. The thing about Lumberjanes is it contains multitudes. It's cool that way. Lido is awesome.
-
Continues the cliffhanger from vol 8. There seems to be setup for a future arc with Molly. Lots of silliness, friendship, and chaos that is the trademark Lumberjanes way.
-
In the first direct sequel storyline for Lumberjanes (I think?), the Greek Gods screw up camp as a mysterious monster with a petrifying gaze terrorizes the place. And to make matters worse, Artemis is back...
Lumberjanes is always at its best when it fully embraces its zaniness, and this four issue arc has it all. But it keeps itself grounded as usual, with some characters really going through the wringer in terms of character development. They work out that they aren't quite as different as they think, and their similarities (and differences) help them win the day.
Plus Ripley continues to be adorable as hell, so there's that.
Cary Pietsch pencils all four issues, and she's one of the more expressive artists of the series; her eyes are especially good, and she manages to make the mythological creatures both threatening and amusing at once.
I <3 Lumberjanes, and this volume is a prime example of exactly why. -
I love this series so much!
-
I keep reading and absolutely loving this series! I love the friendship in it, the underlying mentioning of bigger and more serious issues, the Greek mythology, I love ALL OF IT! I cannot wait to continue on with this series!
-
It`s so cool that they sprinkle the novels with greek mythology and their own spin in it c:
-
Really liked this volume. I was glad to see Diane back (eventually), and Lido the Gorgon was my favorite character this time around.
-
This volume omits the page of the Lumberjanes manual that describes what it takes to get a specific badge at the beginning of each chapter. I missed those in this volume as they were always fun to read and the badge always correlated with the story in that chapter.
I enjoyed the story in this volume. It was fun to have Diane back at the Lumberjanes camp, along with the Greek mythology incorporated into the story, so this volume is reminiscent to the first couple of volumes. -
Näppärä tarina ystävyyden voimasta ja vaikeista perheistä.
-
I love subverting sexist stereotypes in mythology!! The whole thing with Medusa and the Gorgons brought me an insane amount of joy because I just!! love women taking back!! their agency!! and telling their stories themselves!! instead of the men telling their stories for them!!
That's really all I have to say about this book.
Oh also I really love the ever-developing friendship between the Roanokes and the Zodiacs. -
I read this volume in single issue format.
While the wait for the next volume pretty much felt unbearable, we’re finally there! (Okay, I cheated and ended up reading the single issues, but really, can you blame me? The series is so good!). I keep wondering/worrying that we’re going to see the end of the summer on the horizon, but based on some of the theories forming about time dilation I’m starting to feel a little safer about this series. I don’t see it ending sooner than it wants to (though perhaps it’ll do what Gothic Academy did and have ‘breaks’ but always come back to the story, just a year later? It’d be interesting to see how the girls/guys would change after a year away).

ALRIGHT LUMBERJANES YOU’VE WON BACK MY HEART
-
In their typical fashion, the Lumberjanes take friendship to the max by making nice with an old enemy and some new monsters. The theme for this trade wasn't friendship, though, it was family. Without being too after-school-special about it, the Lumberjanes explored less-than-positive family dynamics and the idea that even if your parents suck, you eventually have the option of finding new family with people who support and understand you.
This series continues to be charming and wholesome. I happily recommend it for young readers.
