The Necrotic Knight Reviews
-
I enjoyed this book. I do think you need to have read the previous books before this one, mainly because the characters are we established and you will have a better understanding of who everybody is and what is going on. The cast of characters are unique and the author certainly used his imagination to come up with some of them. The adventure jumps between the two groups as they race to be the first to reach the centre of the mountain, with many battles and deadly situations along the way. A well written story that has the adventure and hours flying by almost in a blink, it must be the magic. I can't wait to get lost in the next book.
The warders might have defeated the sorceress Skade but when one of her loyal followers returns it triggers an ancient spell that has them scrambling. The grey people only won by trapping the Neromancer in a crystal and someone is after the hammer of the underworld, the only item able to free him so he can wreak havoc on the world. The warders send there best agents to get to the hammer first but in order to win against the undead they will have to join forces with their arch-enemy the Chaotic Order's own son. Who will be first? And will everybody survive the encounter?
The narrator is the reason I started listening to the series but now I am hooked.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. -
"The description of Armen Pogharian's fourth book in the Warder series, 'The Necrotic Knight,' reads as follows: 'The Mistress of Death resurrects the Necrotic Knight to claim the hammer of the underworld and free the Necromancer. The Knight's return unleashes ancient binding magic, compelling the Warders to partner with their arch-enemy the Chaotic Order and a mysterious grey-clad healer. Can they work together or will the Necromancer’s armies of undead overwhelm the world?' Obviously, it's not my place to give anything away to Armen's readers. And as one of my new favorite authors, I wouldn't dream of robbing this creative talent of any if I did, so instead of giving away the plot — which runs at a clipped, brisk pace, switching from the present to the past (and even alternate dimensions) seamlessly — I'd like to talk about the amazing world that, after devouring four books, fascinates me more and more.
"Anyone who's read any of the Warder series are, no doubt, already familiar with Draham, Adara, Toran and the various merfolk, elves, barbarians and mystical mages that help our heroes along their way, but I must admit, his villains — the evil-doers we're rooting against — are just as memorable, charismatic and interesting to get to know although, in a good versus evil scenario, I wouldn't advise getting too attached.
"Book Four focuses on Yuden, the assassin who's looking for the means to free the Necromancer from his dwarven-crafted prison. He accepts the aid of Sabo, a fallen member of the Chaotic Order who communicates with Yuden through a skull, and guides him to acquire the power of death...to both see it and then control it to aid in his quest. This piece of fancy is astounding enough, but when you add to it fire giants, fire lions, demon steeds and scores of resurrected dead soldiers and animals, you have to admire the author's craft in telling a well-paced and satisfying installment in this interesting series, as well as avoiding repeating plots, magical devices and creatures, and conflicts, but still, for lack of a better word, being able to keep it 'all in the family.'
"I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of the fifth Warder book, "The Demon's Debt," and anxiously await absorbing every word...then passing my thoughts on to you. Armen, you can slow down when you need to, but I beg you, DON'T EVER STOP!" — Vince Nolan -
Audiobook: I was as entertained by this fourth book in the series as much as the first three. I liked the characters that made up the Warders. I admired their decisions to work with those from an enemy group in order to prevent war. I enjoyed the worldbuilding and the creative beings which populated the world. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought Michelle Babb's narration was entertaining, and I enjoyed the various voices that she provided for the different characters. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook through Spotify. I volunteered, without financial gain, to leave this review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.
