Words from the Heart (Amish Letters #3) Reviews

This is the third book in the Amish Letters series but can easily be read as a stand alone. Like the two previous titles in the series there is an interaction between characters through letters both in the past and in present times. In both cases it is a sweet romance. I could not turn the pages fast enough to see how Noah and Ivy's story played out. Neither was looking for love but God had a say in that and gave them a little nudge . Noah promised his Aunt Cevilla Schlabach he would help her with some heavy boxes in her attic and she is now making sure he keeps his promise. No one says no to Cevilla, she just has that personality that no one dares to not do what she says. I loved being back in Birch Creek and catching up with characters in past books. It's pretty obvious Cevilla is doing all in her power to get her nephew Noah and Ivy together and even they know this but are both too hard headed to admit it.
When Noah starts having a health problem he does his best to hide it from Ivy and his Aunt. He feels unsure of himself and doesn't feel like he is good enough for Ivy . His Aunt and Ivy tell him not to give up and fight for what he wants and that he's not a quitter. Will he listen or just give up and leave town like he wants to do? This book really made me run through my emotions. It made me happy, sad, hopeful and inspired. Shows how fragile love can be unless nurtured!
Beautiful story that I really loved!

This is a gentle story of growing and overcoming heartbreak to give love another chance. I loved how the author wove several plot elements together for a steady pace that kept me invested in the characters and the choices they made. Ivy learns how strong she is as she recovers from disappointment and earns a newfound confidence in herself. Noah is going the opposite direction- full of confidence and success, but a new obstacle is wearing on him and he is at a loss for solutions. His matchmaking aunt is fun and quirky, and the old love letters they find in her attic bring Ivy and Noah closer together in friendship, with attraction simmering beneath the surface. I enjoyed the mannerisms of Ivy and Noah which made them come to life as I read. Another lovely addition to the Amish Letters series, and don't worry- each book can easily be read as a stand alone or out of order.

My Thoughts...
This was my favorite of the three Amish Letters series books.
I had taken a break to sit down and rest for a few minutes and I picked this up and was going to read a chapter or two and before I know it I had read the very last page.
It's just that good. I loved Ivy and Noah and of course my favorite character was Noah's Aunt Cervilla she is just a hoot and so blunt and I could not wait to for her to step on the scene.
This series is not to be missed. They can all be read as stand alones but I say read the whole series.
I gave this book 4 stars. I recommend this book and series,

In this novel, the author has us reading past and present letters, and they sure are from the heart. The title of this series is Amish Letters, and as we’ve seen in the previous two books there is a bit of romance in the words.
Surprises sure abound in this third book in this series, and I was quickly page turning, from Ivy never receiving promised letters to the old letters found in the attic, and then the passive friendly letters she and Noah start to share after their attic cleaning.
We are also reunited with other dear friends from the past books, and yes this one can be read alone, but you’ll soon want more, and these are the perfect choice.
Wait until you meet Aunt Civilla, and watch her make her way to the school board meeting, how who would turn her away. Made me smile, and think with age comes wisdom, at least as far as she is concerned.
Wonderful character and a great story you don’t want to miss!

This one tells two stories. Both are love stories. One in the present, and the other in the past. The one in the present has a happy ending and is the main story, but the one in the past doesn't. I enjoyed both stories, but I was surprised that I liked the sad one. Also, the main story takes place near Christmas, but it felt more like a winter story.

Another very well written story about the Amish people with forgiveness
and redemption at the forefront. It goes back to earlier times when letters
were written and narrated and people did things with their hands at home
To be handed down. It is a tale about Ivey Yoder and Noah Schlabach
helping an aunt clean out her attic and their strong feelings and beliefs.
It is a moving tale of lost love letters, fears and of moving forward to a new
beginning. -
This was a captivating novel! It is the third in the Amish Letters series, but can be read as a stand alone novel, too. I could not turn the pages quickly enough to find out what happened with these two characters! Their romance definitely bloomed toward the second half of the story, and not in the typical way. There was some great romantic tension between Noah and Ivy, as well as other issues they had to overcome.
I really enjoyed they way letters played a part in this story, as they did in the other books of the series as well. I liked getting to know more about Cevilla and seeing how she and Ivy and Noah interacted throughout the book. This has been a very enjoyable series, which I definitely recommend. It is also connected to the Amish of Birch Creek series, another set of books that was extremely enjoyable.

Words from the Heart by Kathleen Fuller is the third An Amish Letters Novel. Ivy Yoder has not heard from John King in a year. She received one letter from him written right after she returned home. He broke his promise and her heart. Ivy must now move forward with her life and needs a something to occupy her mind. Ivy arrives home from visiting with friends to find Noah Schlabach on her doorstep. Noah is an auctioneer and antique specialist. His great aunt, Cevilla Schlabach has asked that Noah and Ivy clean out her attic. She insists that they do it together. Noah knows Cevilla is up to something, but he is eager to see what is in the boxes. You never know what treasure they will find. The pair slowly go through the boxes and get to know each other during the sorting process (finding numerous doilies and old magazines). One of the last boxes they explore contains some damaged doilies and a packet of letters written during the Korean War. Noah and Ivy get drawn into the story of two people (Bunny and CJ) in love. Ivy develops feelings for Noah, but she is afraid of getting her heart broken again. Noah used to be satisfied with his work, but now he feels that something is missing. Cevilla is certain that Noah and Ivy are meant for each other. She has arranged for them to spend time together, but the rest is up to these two very stubborn individuals. Will they learn from the past and embrace life? Can Ivy move forward and find love with Noah? Will Noah give up his roaming way to settle down in Birch Creek?
Words From the Heart is a touching romantic story and my favorite book in this series. I find it refreshing to read stories that have little to no violence, intimate scenes (just kissing), and no foul language. I found the book to contain good writing and a nice flow which made Words From the Heart was easy to read and enjoy. Words From the Heart can be read alone, but I suggest reading all the book in An Amish Letters series. It will familiarize you with the characters from the previous books which are present in Words From the Heart. I appreciate the author updating readers on what has happened to the people from Written in Love and The Promise of a Letter. I like the characters in this story especially Cevilla Schlabach. She is a delightful older woman that is happy with her life and the choices she has made (spunky, quirky). Many of her scenes have me smiling and chuckling (especially when she decides to attend the school board meeting of which she is not a member). The author provides the right amount of background and detail on the main characters along with supporting cast. Ms. Fuller even brought CJ, one of the letter writers, alive with her words. The Christian elements are present throughout and it enhances the story. Prayer, forgiveness, trusting God and faith are a few of the Christian themes in the book. While the romance element is predictable, it is sweet and heartfelt. It was lovely to watch their (Noah and Ivy) feelings grow for each other over the course of the book (while they each tried to resist). The additional elements that Kathleen Fuller added to the story gave it depth and complexity (upcycling, items they found in the boxes, Noah’s symptoms for example). These items made for a richer story. Reading Words From the Heart is a satisfying way to idle away a Saturday afternoon. -
I want to be stuck with you. Forever! This is where mei heart lives.
I have grown fond of the people in this sweet Amish community. It is thoughtful, sweet, and simple. This romance starts with a loving Aunt Cevilla wanting her favorite nephew Noah to find love in the perfect young woman Ivy. To get them together, she has a job that will take their own unique gifts to accomplish. Noah is an auctioneer and sees value in old items. He lives in a different Amish district but loves to visit his favorite Aunt whenever he has the opportunity. Ivy is practical and sees things in a sentimental way. She lives conveniently down the road from Cevillia.
Cevilla has an attic full of boxes waiting to be discovered. Together Noah and Ivy discover more than old memories of another time, but love that is worth fighting for.
Relationships are not easy and they are not easy in the Amish community as well. This budding romance brings out Noah and Ivy's fears but as they discover they have a familiarity with each other that is accepting and feels like home. Ivy being a single woman with no relationship prospects understands that she must be comfortable with herself before she is led to any relationship that leads to marriage. I was very drawn to that attitude and how she discovered that for herself. It brought a confidence that led to a strong faith. She had a balance of heart and head that I found to be wise.
Noah had a drive that is rare. It was drive to be successful in his business however, his devotion to his aunt caused him to think on the things that are valuable. That it is never good to do life alone. We can have a pride that looks like the right thing but when it allows us to push others away, we miss a blessing that comes only from God.
Cevilla had her own past that she shared with Noah and Ivy that helped them take the steps of faith to trust and to open their own hearts to love. Her own words from her heart was the catalyst they needed. She was a delight and the spunk that added to Ivy's and Noah's story.
A Special Thank You to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. -
I have read several books by this author previously, and I felt this novel was my favorite of all!
The story is interesting, and the main characters are likable and believable. The setting is well-developed, as well.
There is a bit of an historical aspect to the story through the introduction of some letters written over 65 years ago. There are hints of a mystery from the past which always adds to my engagement in a story. Since I love historical fiction, I loved the addition of this sub-plot!
Highly-recommended for fans of Amish fiction, historical romance, inspirational romance, and Christian romance.
**This book is completely clean in language and content. :0}

I did enjoy this third book from Kathleen Fuller. I think this is her best series yet!
This book was a you couldn't put it down novel.
I enjoyed Ivys and Noahs story very much!
I knew that they were right for each other from the start. Even Noahs Auntie knew.
I did feel like shaking Noah until he lost his senses. Some men are just too blind to see what is front of them. They don't know a good thing when they see it.
I liked Ivy. I love her name bcuz it's another unusual name
Curiosity kills a cat does it not?
I would recommend this book to anyone simply because I enjoyed it and I love Kathleen Fuller's work.
i received a digital copy from Netgalley and was in no way required to review this book -
I loved this book!! Great story!! love this series!! I hope she writes more books to this series!! I love this author's books!!

". . . I know you said you don't want to fight for us. That's okay. I'm strong enough to fight for us both."
I love mail. I love it when I receive a personal note, especially at this age when emails and text have taken away the art of face to face conversations, as well as the art of writing. There's also something beautiful about waiting for a letter, a response. Don't you think? And I think that's why I've enjoyed Kathllen Fuller's Amish Letters series. In the latest installment, Words from the Heart, it reminded me all over the lost art of letter writing.
Words from the Heart, aptly named have risen to become my favorite of the series, which was pretty hard to do, considering I couldn't decide between book 1 or book 2 as my favorite when I read them. The letters between our main characters started off as something between friends, a 'thank you', but it quickly progressed to something more from each of their hearts. It's about shedding the burdens in our heart with someone who cares. And that my friends, is priceless.
"Whatever he's burdened with, please make it light."
I started this story, not expecting to finish it in one sitting, and surprisingly, I did. I just kept going and before I know it, we've come to close. I think it has something to do with feeling connected to either Noah or Ivy, at different times of the story. And in both, there's a message of faith, of waiting and of surpassing fear. Isn't that something we all deal with? I get it. Waiting takes faith, and faith also conquers fear. Sometime, we just need to wait, and let God.
"Always give God a chance to work.."

I absolutely love this series, and I have to say that this one was just as wonderful as the ones before it! I love how she ties in the letter writing with the stories - it is a very sweet and old-fashioned but incredibly effective way of communication that seems lost in today's world of texting and emailing. Great romance within an engaging story.

Kathleen Fuller is one of my favorite Amish fiction authors. Her writing has an “authentic” feel to it. As with her other books, this one will not disappoint her readers.
This is a sweet story of love, longing, and finding your place in life. Ivy’s struggling to find her place in her community as a young, unmarried Amish woman. Noah is not looking for love, but wondering if he should continue in his chosen occupation. His eccentric Amish aunt, Cecilia, has a secret all her own. The discovery of a batch of old love letters brings these three together in a satisfying love story that will keep your attention to the last page. As the characters were seeking to discover how God was leading them, I found myself
taking to heart the principles of trusting God.
I normally never read books out of order in a series. I did this one, and found that I still enjoyed it even though I was reading it out of sequence.

Words from the Heart concluded the Amish Letters series by Kathleen Fuller, but it can be read as a standalone book. Noah and Ivy discovery of a box containing letters dated during a war period added to their own journey through life. There is heartbreak for both, health issues involved, community members needing assistance and the under lying romance that was off and on between Noah and Ivy. Will a health issue destroy Noah’s career? How will the community handle the growth they are experiencing without a young single maedel being available to teach? Readers of Amish fiction will want to read this latest book by Kathleen Fuller.

I have waited, mostly patiently, for six months for this book to release. I have loved every book in this series. ‘Written in Love‘ brings Jalon and Pheobe together to his home in Birch Creek. ‘The Promise of a Letter‘ brings Jalon’s sister Leanna together with her boss’ brother Roman in an awkward love story of two very nontraditional people. It also brought together Jalon’s cousin Adam with Leanna’s best friend’s sister Karen. I knew that ‘Words from the Heart’ would be all about Ivy and I couldn’t wait. Though it was a sad waiting knowing that it would be the end of this series, a series I would be content to go on and on and on…
While this book may be about Ivy and Noah (don’t worry John is just a distraction for ya…eeps spoilerish?) Cevilla really carried the story for me. Let me tell ya why. I sorta got bored through the first half of the book waiting for the action to start. Cevilla is convinced that Ivy and Noah are meant to be. ‘let Noah and Ivy see how perfect they are for each other. If it’s yer will, of course. Amen.’ I mean good gravy she even tells God how perfect they are for each other, of course His will is an after thought. They are the quintessential opposites so to speak. He is 6 foot something and she’s not quite 5 foot tall. He travels for his work and loves it. She has no desire to ever leave Birch Creek again. He is jovial and silly. She is staid and organized. He understands financial value while she understands sentimental value. Which is why Cevilla pulls them together to begin with. And they bond or heaps and mounds of doilies. I mean other things too but mostly, doilies.
This book may be about Ivy and Noah’s path to love but it’s also about Cevilla’s past and love. The secrets that weren’t so much secrets as things no one knew. It all really starts with a box of doilies and letters. Love letters. From Korea in the 50s. The introduction of the letters about the half-way mark really brought the story to life. I couldn’t stop reading. I had to know what was what and who was who and how it all came to pass. This book is filled with memorably flawed characters that you can’t help but care for. This book is told with a depth of words and obvious research that brings the situations to life. Korean War letters, meniere’s disease, and finding new paths. You aren’t an old maid at 26, unless you choose to be. According to Cevilla I think that goes for 80-something as well. This book was more than worth the wait and is honestly probably my favorite of the series. I’ll change my mind a few ties when I re-read one book or another. Amish Letters hits the right spot with each book each time.

At 28, Ivy Yoder feels forgotten in the romance department. All of her friends are married and most have children. When the book-binding business she works for closes its doors, she's pretty sure God has forgotten her. Then, her neighbor, Cevilla Schlabach, gets a shipment of boxes from her English step-mother's estate and she asks Ivy to help her nephew, Noah, sort through them.
Noah Schlabach is an Amish auctioneer. He travels all over during auction season, making a career out of something that most Amishmen would consider a hobby. When his favorite aunt asks him to sort through an attic full of boxes during his winter break, he can't tell her no. Her only stipulation? He must work with Ivy Yoder.
As Noah and Ivy work together to sort the good stuff from the junk, they discover more than a strong friendship. However, Ivy is wary of getting involved again. Her last long-distance relationship fell apart the minute she was out of sight. What will happen with Noah once he returns to his home in Iowa? Noah is also keeping a secret from both Ivy and his aunt, a secret he feels is a deal-breaker for any relationship with Ivy. Can he put her out of his heart or will he break both of their hearts by keeping his secret?
When Ivy discovers a packet of old love letters in one of Cevilla's boxes, the two of them are given permission to read the story enclosed in the letters. As they take turns reading, will their feelings for each other parallel those in the letters?
Words from the Heart is book 3 in the Amish Letters series and it touched my heart. Many of the characters are familiar from Ms. Fuller's Amish of Birch Creek series and it was nice to read about how their families have grown in the ensuing years. I liked Ivy's independence, her ability to stand up for herself (even though, at 4'11" tall, she's pretty tiny) and her strength of character. She wasn't willing to settle for less, whether it was a man who loved her with his whole heart or a job that she felt called to do.
Readers of Amish fiction will enjoy this story and if they love romance, too, this should be on their TBR. Once I started this book and got about three chapters in, I couldn't put it down and finished it in an afternoon. I love Kathleen Fuller's work and would definitely recommend this series. -
Words From the Heart
An Amish Letters Novel #3
By Kathleen Fuller
Ivy Yoder's life has changed much recently and it is about to once again as her job at Miller's Bookbinding is coming to an end. With her closest friends and sister married and no prospects of marriage in her future, Ivy feels a bit adrift.
When an older woman within the community asks for Ivy's help she agrees - after all she has the time. But cleaning up Cevilla Schlabach's attic has a few stipulations attached to it - she has to do it with Cevilla's great-nephew Noah. And even more perplexing is Cevilla's insisting that Ivy and Noah have to be in the attic together working together no solo work, but at her age Cevilla is allowed a few peculiarities.
Noah is hoping to make so finds of importance - he is after all an auctioneer and articles of value intrigue him. Ivy is curious as well but most of the boxes hold little of monetary value though there are a few treasures that with a little TLC might be of note. But when they come to a box of old letters they discover the true treasure that the attic is hiding - but these letters hide a secret one that affects them both.
Those around them are convinced that Ivy and Noah are perfect for one another - but Ivy and Noah aren't convinced. Ivy like her life and the closeness she shares with her family in Birch Creek while Noah like traveling around as an auctioneer and he doesn't even call the state of Ohio home. And Noah has a secret of his own one that could have a last effect on what his future holds.
This is the third book in the Amish Letters series and continues the story of those who call Birch Creek, Ohio, home. If you have not read the two previous books you can still easily follow this story you just won't have the back story of the secondary characters. This is a lovely story about family, friendship and a second chance at love. And fans of Amish fiction will enjoy yet another book from Kathleen Fuller.
I was provided a review copy by the publisher through the BookLook blogger program with no expectations of a positive review ~ all opinions expressed are my own. -
Words from the Heart is the third book in the Amish Letters series by Kathleen Fuller. While this is the third book, each one can be read as a standalone. I loved the way the author updates readers on what happens to the people from the first two books
This is a sweet love story with three main characters: Noah, Ivy, and Noah’s Aunt Cervilla (who was my mother's favorite character). This story begins with Ivy a young unmarried Amish woman so disappointed, feeling hurt and rejected as she is waiting over a year for promised letters from John King that never comes to finding old love letters when Ivy helped Noah clean out Aunt Cervilla’s attic which brought Noah and Ivy closer together in friendship.
Ivy Yoder is hurting over her jilted love and is afraid that she will never find a husband in her community of Birch Creek, Ohio. Noah Schlabach is the great-nephew of Ivy’s elderly friend Cevilla Shalaback. He is an auctioneer from Iowa. Cevilla insists the two work together cleaning out her attic. She knows that Noah and Ivy are meant for each other.
Not knowing what treasure are in the many boxes they sort through them slowly finding many doilies and old magazines, but in one of the boxes they found a packet of old letters written during the Korean War. The love letters are the story of two people (Bunny and CJ) who are in love.
While working together and becoming good friends, Ivy has feelings for Noah, but afraid of getting hurt again. Noah is happy traveling as an auctioneer but knows something is missing in his life. Can Ivy get over the fear from her past to move forward and find love with Noah? Will Noah feel good enough for Ivy and stop his traveling? Does he want to live in her beloved community of Birch Creek?
I truly enjoyed reading this book as I love anything written by Kathleen Fuller.
I received a paperback copy of this book without cost from the publisher through The Fiction Guild, a Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Elite Reader book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own, or in this case, my mom's. -
While in Michigan helping her cousin, Ivy Yoder met John King and he broke her heart. With John out of her life, Ivy needs something to distract her from dwelling too much about being single. When Cervilla Schlabach asks her to help clean her attic, Ivy is only too happy to accept.
Noah Schlabach, Cervella’s nephew from Iowa, has also been asked by his aunt to come to Birch Creek, Ohio to help his aunt go through her step mother’s things in her attic. Since he loves his aunt he can’t say no, but being an auctioneer, he also hopes there are some interesting things to be found in all those boxes.
As Ivy and Noah work together to make heads or tails out of the stuff in the boxes, they are disappointed to find box after box of doilies, until they find a box different from the rest. It is filled with even more doilies and… letters from CJ written during the Korean War. As they read the letters they find themselves reading about a couple falling in love, and wonder if Bunny is Cervella’s step mother or could it be someone else?
Although Noah and Ivy are determined to not fall under the spell of Aunt Cervella’s attempt at match-making, they find themselves having feelings for each other. Noah knows nothing can come of it because he will not subject Ivy to a life-time of dealing with his secret illness and Ivy is just as determined to prove to him, she is worth loving.
This book will capture your heart from the first page. You will find yourself wanting to comfort Ivy from the hurt of a broken heart and heal Noah’s illness. As Noah and Ivy work together to clean the attic and unravel the mystery of the letters, they will find comfort in knowing God is in control. Their journey will keep you turning the pages.

Ivy Yoder is only four feet eleven, yet she has plenty of spunk and has reached the realization that her hope for marriage is not related to the one man she has been waiting on. With one job ending and the prospects for a part-time job on the horizon, Ivy is willing to help her friend Cevilla clean out her attic, especially since Cevilla's nephew has finally found time in his busy schedule to come home to Birch Creek. Little did she know, that the attic had its own secrets and once discovered Ivy might need to rethink the path she thought God had been leading her towards.
Noah Schlabach is an auctioneer who has mastered his cadence, is well liked, is an honest appraiser, and has no intention of following his Aunts lead. Coming back to Birch Creek is only for a short time, his schedule is already set for the new year and it shouldn't take any time to get the attic de-cluttered and "make good on his promise" to his Aunt. His only challenge is the ringing in his ears, the extreme pain that the ringing causes, and his dizziness that comes with out any warning. For now he knows he can get the attic cleaned out, then he will check out what is causing his symptoms.
Cevilla knew that God was directing her decision to have Noah and Ivy be the ones to clear out all of the boxes in the attic. Yet, when her nephew begins shutting out her directives and Ivy accepts a new part-time job, she must seek God's guidance. Could she have misunderstood God's answer?
If it wasn't for the discovery of those letters, Ivy nor Noah would have remained connected. When Noah is asked to be the auctioneer for Birch Creek's first auction and Ivy is asked to help as a teacher, there just doesn't seem to be any hint that friendship could turn into a crossroads dilemma.
Take this seasonal moment of reading as a journey beyond what we "think" God is calling us to do,

Ivy Yoder hasn’t heard from John King in over a year. She knows it’s time to let go of the idea that they will one day marry, but she’s humiliated to be one of the oldest single women in her Amish community of Birch Creek. When quirky Cevilla Schlabach asks her to help clean out an attic, Ivy is grateful for the distraction. Noah Schlabach isn’t from Birch Creek, or even Ohio. His job as an auctioneer takes him around the country and away from a typical Amish life, but he still remains devoted to his family. So when his aging aunt asks him to help clean out her attic, he agrees. Plus, who knows what curious items he might find up there? As Noah and Ivy work side by side, they come across a different kind of treasure: a packet of letters written during the Korean War. Soon they are swept up in the story of two young people falling in love—even as they remain determined not to fall in love themselves.
Kathleen Fuller writes some very sweet Amish stories, and this was one of them. I liked how the main characters mirror the characters of the past, sharing their stories through letters. I also liked that they learned from their elders. :) The main characters each have their own personal struggles, and it doesn’t help that they have meddling aunts and family members compounding them! This is not a heavy read, it's not something that will take long to get through - it's just a nice, cozy story about an Amish relationship. Themes include grief, fear, rejection, coping with illness and change, and depending on others. Also, until leaving this review, I didn't realize that it was the third in a series...so obviously it works really well as a standalone book! -
Ivy Yoder is the oldest daughter in her family and she is still single. She feels like is destined to be alone when she met a charming young Amish man who promised to write her but never did. Stung by his broken promise and her lack of prospects, she is delighted when a quirky older woman asks for Ivy's help. However, the task comes with one eccentric requirement; both she and Cevilla's nephews must do the chore together.
Noah Schlabach is Cevilla's beloved nephew and is dedicated to his family. When, his aunt asks him for help, he doesn't hesitate to agree even with the weird requirement of working with Ivy. He works as an auctioneer and is also excited to see if can unearth any antique items. The duo comes across a pile of mysterious love letters written during the Korean War. They find themselves entranced by the couple even when they both believe they are destined to be alone. Will Ivy and Noah learn to put the past behind them and fall in love? Why did Cevilla ask them to work together? Why were the letters hidden away?
If you are a fan of Kathleen Fuller or Amish romances, you will enjoy this novel. Fans might notice characters from her previous novels. I found the story an engaging and delightful read while eager for the couple to find their path. A definite treat and I can't wait to read her other novels.
