I would have given this a 4.5 if I could have. It was a great little group of stories that elicited many different emotions and actions. They are stories that combine a little sex with a little horror as the title states. I found myself facinated with the woman that through sex could take over her lovers' bodies and chuckling over The Thang (sometimes you get what you ask for) and grossed out by The Meat Market.
These little anthologies are not for everyone but if you are a horror fan or an erotica fan with a strong stomach not looking for romance, give them a try. This is the first of many. -
Hot indeed. I needed a cold shower AND a change of pants. Oh, from peeing them in fright, not because...well, never mind.

This weird cover and book has short stories from such a great ensemble – Graham Masterton, Robert Bloch, Harlan Ellison, F. Paul Wilson, Ramsay Campbell, that I had to pick it up. Not to mention, of course, that the erotic horror theme is interesting if done right.
Overall it was a worthy anthology; not erotic, but some disturbing stuff here and there, others creepy, others just strange.
The first story by Graham Masterton was average. The story was creative and out there, but not too crazy about it. As usual his writing style is smooth. The same is same for Richard Matheson’s The Likeness of Julie, promising but just not raising above average. The Thang by Robert R. McCammon doesn’t have much of an explanation for how the man got that way, but it was a cool short story where it was hard to take the eyes away, much like a train wreck.
F. Paul Wilson’s Menage A Trois was lots of fun with an eccentric old lady and a dark humor. Mr. Right from Richard Christian Anderson is amusing and brief, reminding me of a brief joke I’ve seen on the internet before over the years. Chocolate from Mick Garris was written well in the first person POV, not with any full explanation, but interesting nonetheless.
Again by Ramsey Campbell (have so much of his stuff in my library to read still) was maybe the creepiest story of the bunch. Eerie, with his powerful talent of the pen enhancing the horror. Where his story was the creepiest, the next story by Lisa Tuttle, Bug House, is the most disturbing. There IS a strange eroticism with this one in fact, but it gives miserable shivers. Interesting story that is the perfect length for its tale and almost numbing in its telling, and is one of the best offered.
Vengeance Is. By Theodore Sturgeon is such a short story, a scene really, that is doesn’t draw much attention. J.N. Williamson (RIP) also tells a simply short story which is disturbing in itself. Michael Garrett warns us on the type of people you shouldn’t cross in Reunion, a decently long tale that has a semi-predictable, but still worthy, ending.
Harlan Ellison’s Footsteps was awesome and gothic with tone, I love the surprise ending and almost a happy one for the big and bad. Pretty is…from Mike Newton is a typical prey and predator tale that tells it from a woman’s point of view instead of the similar stories like it, it was interesting.
I loved Aunt Edith by Gary Brandner, good stuff, even if not very surprising. Meat Market from John Skipp and Craig Spector is painfully brutal but cool and fits into the anthology like a second glove. Robert Bloch doesn’t disappoint with being brutal and yicky with the Model either, his great writing style working well for this horrible event. Carnal House (Steve Rasnic Tem) is eerie and unsettling but gothic and justified.
They’re coming for you by Les Daniels was great – funny stuff, humorous writing, loved the ironic ending, bravo.
Suzie Sucks by Jeff Gelb plays on some urban legend stuff kind of, a suitable story that doesn’t have a lot of surprises but works. Ray Garton’s Punishments is one of the very top of the stories as the best, great stuff and interesting.
If you’re a horror fan or anthology fan, pick this one up if you pass it by. There have been new ones since then (this is part one), and it’s an older book, but it’s fun for those demented moods. -
There is a line of thought that sex and horror (death) are linked; and it's not just because Hammer horror films started integrating nudity by the late 60's and a lot of people grew up on them.
The link seems to be loss of control. Great sex culminates in a white hot primal climax that renders both parties momentarily incapable of rational thought. In good relationships this mutually beneficial loss of cognoscent abilities is not noticed. The physical is all that matters and that's becuase the partners trust one another.
What if that trust isn't there though? What if someone has a different set of values for what brings them pleasure? Then that loss of control can lead to definite unpleasantness.
Turning something that's supposed to be pleasurable into something frightening is an easy fear to exploit. It also gives most readers an easy 'in' to these stories. Who hasn't felt the urge and realized that it might lead to unsound decision making? (C'mon even Spock lost it during Pon Farr.)
That's the basis for these stories and this entire series. It's not a link we're likely to see go away anytime soon. (Because it's so true.) -
I've had the HOT BLOOD books (or most of them anyway) setting on my shelf for many years now and I kept saying I was going to get to them and just kept putting them off. Now that I've read this one... I can't believe I kept putting them off! I can't say that I absolutely loved EVERY story in this book, but there are some great pieces within this one book as there are twenty-five stories and authors to choose from. I was introduced to many authors I have never read and some I had never even heard of. My list of novels to read sooner-rather-than-later has now grown as I'll be bumping up some of the authors I read within this collection. If you are looking to find some good erotic horror stories, look no further, as this book definitely gives a wide variety!

“The Thang” lol unforgettable and terrible all at once. Fun anthology
-
Yes this book is dated, so you can't really expect it to be horrific in nature with gratuitous sex scenes, however it does live up to it's genre. The short stories in this book are all different and all have a mix of different supernatural and horror elements. Well written and interesting plotlines. My personal favourite in the anthology is the short story called " Chocolate".
-
I thought this was a really cutting edge anthology with some really find stuff in it. And then there was "The Thang," by Robert McCammon. I won't call it good. It was horrible, in a way. But damn it sure was memorable.

Favorite stories: “Chocolate,” by
Mick Garris, and “The Voice,” by
Rex Miller, for their uniqueness; “Again,” by
Ramsey Campbell, for the building mystery and tension; and “Punishments,” by
Ray Garton, for the narrator and for the twists (of different kinds). These stories were special, unique. Different.
Along with “The Voice,” two other stories, “Carnal House” by
Steve Rasnic Tem, and “Red Light” by
David Schow, also combined humanity with their horror. According to Tem’s author bio: “‘What I’m interested in is disturbing the reader,’ Tem says, a goal achieved—and then some—in ‘Carnal House.’” But to me, that story is not so much disturbing as it is achingly sad.
“They’re Coming for You” was also different, and quite funny.
“Daughter of the Golden West” could have been interesting, but I had no clue what was going on. -
Hot Blood 1 is a collection of over 20 short stories, supposedly on an "Erotic Horror" theme, although my edition is subtitled "Tales of Provocative Horror" instead. The stories are of varying lengths, from just a few pages to around 30 in some cases. As is usually the case with collections, the quality varies from pretty good, through not bad, to what the...?
I found the title to be a little misleading. While there are horror and sexual elements to many of the stories, I can't agree that this is a collection of "Tales of Erotic Horror". I guess this tittilating title was a marketing ploy. Many of the stories are oddities and would fit into an "Outer Limits" or "Tales of the Unexpected" theme. This isn't a bad thing, just not quite what the reader would expect from the cover.
Overall, a varied collection of unusual tales that has enough entertainment value for fans of horror oddities with a bit of sex thrown in here and there. -
Hot Blood is very enjoyable, a nice anthology of tales with the erotic/horror themes. Lots of very talented writers adding in their stories, and it's a winner. My favorite stories, "The Changeling" "The Thang" "Aunt Edith," and "Vengeance Is".
-
Dont' let the name fool you. This collection of stories are much smarter and far more entertaining then you would expect from the title alone.

Project Hot Blood, part 1
The Hot Blood series are tales of erotic horror, which is the best combination ever. When something as personal and sensitive as sex is mixed with horror, what could possible scare you shitless more? So I set out to explore them all, all 13 books of the series, thus Project Hot Blood.
First, some info about my rating system. The level of paranormal of each story is one to five, one meaning it surely can happen in real life, five meaning it’s utterly something paranormal. The level of sex describes how graphic is the sex in each story, one to five, one being tame a bedtime story told by a nun, five being a detailed script for a hardcore porn movie. My rating’s from one to ten, it’s based on the balance of horror and erotic, so getting five in ‘level of sex’ doesn’t automatically mean an above average rating from me. It’s based on the wtf-ness of the ending, how freaked out I am, how nightmare-generating it is. One being rubbish, ten being masterpiece.
Changeling
Graham Masterton (Best work among others: “Walkers“)
It’s about a married man who met a beautiful woman and almost immediately fell in love. I like the disastrous ending, however confusing.
Length: 29 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 No way in Hell. Well, maybe there.
Level of Sex: 2 Premature ejaculation, meaning sex scenes cut short.
My rating: 6 out of 10
The Likeness of Julie
Richard Matheson (Best known for “I Am Legend“
It’s about turning an ordinary guy into a monster. I enjoyed the chilling process of turning. But I want to know more!
Length: 10 pages
Level of Paranormal: 3 It might happen.
Level of Sex: 1 While the thought of it was disturbing, the sex itself wasn’t described.
My rating: 6 out of 10 (would’ve been an 8 if it offered more explanation)
The Thang
Robert R. McCammon (Best work among others: “Swan Song“)
It’s about a man and his…well, you know, his thang. Nasty ending. I love New Orleans! Especially after American Horror Story: Coven.
Length: 18 pages
Level of Paranormal: 3 Depends on whether you believe in Voodoo.
Level of Sex: 1 Higher only if a table dance count as sex.
My rating: 5 out of 10
Ménage à Trois
F. Paul Wilson (Author of “The Keep” and “Repairman Jack” -series)
It’s about threesome like the title suggested. I didn’t like it because it was really predictable and too long. But the spectacular ending saved it all.
Length: 32 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 Though hypnotism is a thing, but the ending. Oh sheeeeyit, what if the ending’s a coincidence?! Then this would be a two.
Level of Sex: 2 Quite tame now. What’s it with male authors and their reluctance to write smut properly?
My rating: 7 out of 10 (would have been a 4 without the ending, which was really that good)
Mr. Right
Richard Christian Matheson (Author of “Scars and Other Distinguishing Marks“)
It’s like that one joke about doctors, made funny because we all hold on tight to stereotypes. I like it. It’s short and sweet and quite clever.
Length: 4 pages
Level of Paranormal: 0 Some monsters are real.
Level of Sex: 1 It’s all left to the imagination of the reader.
My rating: 8 out of 10
Blood Night
Chet Williamson (Best work among others: “Second Chance“)
It’s about a man’s unique ability to control his dreams. A minor error in facts, but I choose to ignore it. Because the rest of the story’s pretty good.
Length: 17 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 We all know, cos we’ve all tried it: dreams can’t be controlled.
Level of Sex: 4 Whaaaat. A four finally! See, fellas? Not that damn hard now, is it?!
My rating: 8 out of 10 Would have been a nine without that minor error.
Chocolate
Mick Garris
It’s about the fascination of feeling the way someone else is feeling. Fascinating, yet terrifying.
It started out as quite a pretty and odd love story. It took the horror turn quite suddenly, and it somehow didn’t match the rest of the story.
Length: 12 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 I wish it would be possible, at least temporarily.
Level of Sex: 3 Wasn’t that explicit but quite absurd.
My rating: 6 out of 10 Higher if the story builds more towards the ending.
Again
Ramsey Campbell (Best work among others: “Dark Companions“)
It’s about a kinky old lady. Flies? Nasty. Old women? Creepy. Kinky old woman with flies? Scary as hell.
Length: 12 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 At least I hope this would never happen in real life.
Level of Sex: 2 There wasn’t any sex actually, thank God for that. But the little stuff somehow made me feel dirty.
My rating: 7 out of 10 Could’ve explained more..ok you know what, I don’t want to know more. Yes, it’s that kind of a story.
Bug House
Lisa Tuttle (Finally, a female author! Shows we ladies can be quite nasty too. Best work among others: “A Nest of Nightmares“)
It’s about an aunt living in an old house. Yes, as the title suggests, there will be bugs. The build-up slightly too long, with useless subplots. Otherwise, it was quite brilliant.
Length: 23 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5! Bugs…no no no no no nononononono
Level of Sex: 3 Not that explicit, but a word of warning for sensitive readers. But if you’re sensitive, what da hell you’re doing reading Hot Blood.
My rating: 7 out of 10 Cut those subplots and it would be an eight.
Vengeance Is.
Theodore Sturgeon (Best work among others: “More Than Human“)
It’s about justice really. Quite a clever little story. Unique way of narration.
Length: 9 pages
Level of Paranormal: 2 I guess it could happen? I’m too lazy to google the medical terms.
Level of Sex: 2 The idea’s nasty, but the wording’s quite tame.
My rating: 8 out of 10
The Unkindest Cult
J. N. Williamson
It’s about vasectomy. Nuff said. The weakest story yet horror-wise. Guess this would be scarier for male readers.
Length: 6 pages
Level of Paranormal: 0 Definitely would happen in real life too.
Level of Sex: 0 There wasn’t any?
My rating: 4 out of 10
Reunion
Michael Garrett
It’s about fantasies and exes. Some writers have the ability to make you believe no matter how absurd their story is. Well, Garrett’s not one of them. This is almost silly.
Length: 15 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 I rather believe in brain-hungry zombies.
Level of Sex: 1 Quite tame.
My rating: 5 out of 10
Footsteps
Harlan Ellison
It’s about children of the night, but not vampires. I think. A bit confusing.
Length: 13 pages
Level of Paranormal: 4 Not a five cos I’m not even sure what happened.
Level of Sex: 2 It’s alright.
My rating: 5 out of 10
Pretty is…
Mike Newton
It’s about a pretty girl and a mysterious boy. Quite a slow but enjoyable build-up. I would love to know more. The ending was quite unexpected and surprisingly steamy.
Length: 12 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5
Level of Sex: 3
My rating: 7 out of 10
Aunt Edith
Gary Brandner (The author of “The Howling”)
It’s about an aunt and her little statues. Predictable yet funny little piece.
Length: 10 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 Fascinating idea, but still, wishful thinking.
Level of Sex: 2 A lot left to imagination, but the tension’s good.
My rating: 7 out of 10
Daughter of the Golden West
Dennis Etchison
It’s about three best friends and a strange girl. It’s a pity really, cos I really like the style of prose. The story didn’t make sense though. Sometimes, in horror, less is not more.
Length: 13 pages
Level of Paranormal: 3 Depends on whether I even understood the story.
Level of Sex: ? There was sex? I couldn’t recall.
My rating: 4 out of 10
Meat Market
John Skipp and
Craig Spector
It’s about bloody business. Again, less is not more. Subtlety’s not my cup of tea.
Length: 7 pages
Level of Paranormal: ? No freaking idea.
Level of Sex: 2 It was okay.
My rating: 4 out of 10
The Voice
Rex Miller
It’s about phone sex. I think it was a bit mean. I didn’t like it.
Length: 6 pages
Level of Paranormal: 0 Could happen.
Level of Sex: 0 There wasn’t any. Not even much tension.
My rating: 3 out of 10
The Model
Robert Bloch (The author of “Psycho”)
It’s about a model who just won’t give it. Too long of a build-up, almost got bored. The grand finale wasn’t worth the build-up.
Length: 10 pages
Level of Paranormal: 3 Depends on whether the guy’s crazy or not.
Level of Sex: 1 Not much of it.
My rating: 5 out of 10
Carnal House
Steve Rasnic Tem
It’s about appreciating the dead. What’s up with people not just come out and say it as it is?! Sometimes I wonder whether the writers even know what they are talking about. Though I liked the setup.
Length: 12 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5 Boring zombies
Level of Sex: 3 Some nasty action.
My rating: 6 out of 10
They’re Coming For You
Les Daniels
It’s about surprises and sick twisted obsession. Damn, wasn’t this entertaining right up to its nasty end.
Length: 7 pages
Level of Paranormal: 0 I would like to think that it’s all just tricks of the mind.
Level of Sex: 4 Because it was nasty.
My rating: 9 out of 10 This is really what the Hot Blood series is about.
Suzie Sucks
Jeff Gelb (The editor and one of the authors of Hot Blood series)
The title, exactly that. The build-up was promising. Pity that the story took the easy way out.
Length: 8 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5
Level of Sex: 2
My rating: 6 out of 10
Punishments
Ray Garton
It’s about a nice lady with a dark past. This is one of those stories that slaps a deep frown on your face the whole time you’re reading this. A frown not because it’s a poor story, a frown because it’s so freaking good in the most bone-chilling way.
Length: 14 pages
Level of Paranormal: 0 This shit could’ve been real cos you know, people can be quite sick.
Level of Sex: 5 Explicit, perverted, disturbing.
My rating: 10 out of 10 Finally, a perfect score for a perfectly horrific story.
Red Light
David J. Schow
It’s about a top model and cameras and consumers. I really don’t believe the story, it’s not scary, it’s even a little stupid. Not a good one to end the first book.
Length: 21 pages
Level of Paranormal: 5
Level of Sex: 2
My rating: 5 out of 10
Statistics:
The average rating is six, which isn’t very good. Only five stories out of 24 got an eight or above. Over 60 % of the stories are only mediocre with a few exceptionally poor ones. Nonetheless, they were a fun read. -
Some cracking stories in here and some average at best stories, definitely worth a read as a change of pace, I'd give it more because the good stories are very good but the average ones drag the overall rating down.... That's always going to be the way with a collection like this. Star rating this book is a bit daft but indidual stories there a definitely some 5 star ones that I will read again.
-
The only reason why I decided to read this compilation of horror stories mixed with eroticism, was because of the participation of Mr. Jeff Gelb (I'm a huge fan) Many of the stories pertaining to this work are pretty bad. but the few that are good are very good. and that is why I will give a 4 star rating to this work.
-
I would give this book negative stars if I could.
The only thing horrific about this book is that the authors spent time writing it.
Misogyny, pedophilia, and pathetic men. Thats what this book is about.
I need to go cleanse my brain from this filth. -
Perhaps it was a sign of the book's age, but I didn't get the creepy sexies out of this at all.
-
On amazon this is called provocative horror. Great collection of extreme horror writers
-
I enjoyed some of the short stories, but allot of them weren't for me. The best to me was beast mode.
-
Thought this would be a fun Halloween read - it has an excellent list of authors - but it was generally pretty icky.

Looking For a Good Book. Rated 3.0 of 5
I've always had a passion for well-written horror stories, though they can be difficult to find as many authors (as in the horror films) make them more about blood and gore rather than a psychological horror. There's also a fine line between the adrenaline rush from being scared and the adrenaline rush from being sexually aroused, so combining the two makes for a twisted kind of sense.
Hot Blood is the first anthology in a series and features some well-recognized author names mixed with some that are new (to me, at least).
As with most anthologies, the quality of the stories varies a lot. I'm pleased that none of them stood out as real duds, but only two were noteworthy.
"Punishments," by Ray Garton adds a touch of religion to his sexually charged horror story, with a young boy discovering that the prudish church organist isn't quite the prude she seems to be, but her sexual desires aren't the only secret she hides.
My favorite story is "Aunt Edith" by Gary Brandner. When a young girl brings her new boyfriend home to meet her Aunt Edith, the aunt sends the girl down the street on an errand so that Edith can test the man's true intentions and his purity. What happens will send a shiver down your spine, but just as I did, you'll probably chuckle a bit, too.
However, the story begins with a brief prologue which is completely unnecessary and gives the ending away.
Overall, this was a nice diversion (I really enjoy reading short stories) from the many novels I've been reading.

Author Biographies
Looking for a good book? Hot Blood is a nice assortment of dark, occasionally erotic, short stories. While nothing is outstanding, nothing is horrible, either. -
Mixed bag of short stories, some i liked very much (especially the last one about photography), some were more meh... But on average, a nice opportunity to have little somethings to read while waiting for the public transportation to arrive.
-
Terrific stories. I must get again. Eventually I will.
-
I reread this last holiday and finished it in January 2012. I found it sublime and somewhat boring and predicatable. MCCammon's was the best short story.
-
There's a story about a dude becoming a chick in this thing! Yowza!
-
my copy is same cover & pages but Hardback.
