When World War III broke out in August 1985, the British Army Of the Rhine (BAOR) had been defending the West on the border between West Germany and East Germany for just over 40 years. These soldiers, the third generation of British soldiers to stand watch on the North German Plain, quickly proved their mettle. With the release of Iron Maiden, the British are coming to Team Yankee.

If you want to build British Forces for the "WWIII in the 80s" miniatures game Team Yankee, you really need to get this guide/catalog. I also read its NATO Companion, "Free Nations" that Covers French, Dutch, Canadian- and of all things, ANZAC Forces in this mythical past future war. As such both are quite good in laying out what forces the game contains- and how they ought to look on the table. Both books start with "History" content- descriptions of how each army's forces would be deployed- then unit descriptions(I've gotten to accept that the simple diagrams of each platoon are gone- replaced with sections in the back that show how infantry units are to be built)- and then gaming and modelling advice for developing your forces. It's as much a catalog as a game guide, but both are needed if you want to fill out your NATO battle group.
Personally, I have come upon a French force, so I was very interested in the "Free Nations" book. I love their wheeled AFV/APC approach in the Cold War. Looks really cool- glad it was not actually tested in WWIII. But the Brits, Canadians, and Dutch have cool gear too - as do the ANZACs. Basically- no matter how unthinkable a real WWIII would have been (experts at the time agreed such a war would probably have gone nuclear within days) - the gear the trip wire forces in Europe used was very interesting. And the "What If" is compelling.
For the Junior reader this is not much of a challenge- and there is no gore at all- if this game is interesting to them, this is a basic read. For the Gamer/Modeller/Military Enthusiast - of course this is the desired target of this book. You get help on creating your force, building it, painting it and then designing scenarios- so a pretty complete package. While I'd prefer less of a catalog-y feel- this format seems to work and be here to stay, so I'll deal with it. But once again- sort of a necessity if you want to build these forces and play the game.
