Fantasy of Fire (The Tainted Accords, #3) Reviews

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author Kelly St. Clare.)

“Maybe not today, maybe not next week, but one day you’ll wake to find soldiers outside your tent. Don’t burn this bridge.”

    Well, what a surprising story!

Olina stayed tough in this book, and firm in her beliefs, and she also knew when to ask for help.

The storyline in this was about Olina preparing for the battle ahead with her mother’s army, and also about slowly revealing her true identity to people, some of whom didn’t take it well at all! There was lots of planning and strategy in this book, which slowed things down for me, but it was still an enjoyable story.

There was a little romance in this, but only a little, and not until the end.

The ending to this was quite surprising because… there is a fourth book to look forward to!

UPDATE: This review can now be found on
    Rosaline's Rolls & Scrolls.

    Actual rating: 4.5 perfect stars

Okay, what are you trying to do to my heart Kelly St. Clare?

Omg guys, I've found a new favorite series. I love this fucking book!

Where do I start with my praising? First of all, I have to commend the author for her wonderful world-building and presenting it so perfectly. I've talked about this in my review of the first two books, so I'm not gonna dwell much on it. I'd just like to mention a small detail that caught my attention. So earlier in the book I was wondering how they have day and night in their worlds since there are no planets and therefore there's no sun and no rotations around it, however the author explains this so perfectly in the most casual manner. I mean come on! Just as I was about to find a flaw in her world.

Another thing that I really love about these books is how close I feel to the MC. Usually when the heroine is about to tackle a difficult situation and is contemplating things, I feel detached from the whole situation, because I know that at the end she is speshool and everything will turn out in her favor. With Olina though, I did not feel such a thing. Even though I trusted that everything was going to turn out fine, the way the author portraits her character and the way she acts in times of great hardship, when she's about to walk into an impossible situation, I feel anxious with her instead of wanting her to get on with it already. Not many books can make me care about their characters anymore, but Tainted Accords does this perfectly.
Which brings me to how amazing the side characters are. I love these people to the depths of my bookish heart. They are on my "please, why aren't they real" list.
And best of all, the MC is a major badass, inside and out! I honestly have a crush on her Frost persona! She is everything I wish to be...

Now that those are out of the way, let's talk about the romance.

I mean is there anything better than Jovan?
Their love is warm and beautiful and slow-building. There's mutual respect and enough sexual tension to make us all be Ice and go:

Yes, there's some back and forth of will they, won't they. And some anguish over the future and their rolls VS. their feelings and happiness. But it didn't annoy me as it would normally. I guess I like these characters too much which has enabled me to enjoy some well placed angst.

To sum up, this book has made me cry and laugh and turn into a pile of goo! I can't believe I ever thought I would end up disliking this series. Don't judge a book by anything other than its content, people! Let that be my wise words to you.

And start this series, for God's sake! What are you waiting for?

  • JAIME

If this series didn't only have one book left, I'd probably give up here. It just feels like it is being dragged out now, which is a bit of a shame.

I know I've been banging on this week about heroines being too soft. And that is certainly not the case here, this heroine can sure as shit hold her own in a fight. But, unlike Mia Corvere, the heroine of my dreams, in this story it just doesn't feel genuine. Probably because she acts 'dependent' the rest of the time.

    a la sigh.
I love this series and Jovan. Oh, Jovan. I will happily spend the rest of my days writing odes to this piece of perfection.

Loved it!!!! Olina's mother's army is knocking on Jovan's door for war. Olina has to flip back and forth between being Tatuma and being Frost. Jovan and Olina have to figure out what they feel for each other. It was great. I was dreading when the percentage of the book I'd read was getting higher and higher. Olina continued to impress me with her maturity and moral compass, but also in realizing she's a future leader and excepting all that her role entails. Jovan was still great as a king and as Olina's friend/ possible lover. When I was getting to the end, I was starting to really worry because it seemed a lot would be left open, but surprise, surprise......... this wasn't the last installment. I can't wait for the next book.

  • Jina | JeanBeanReads

Jorvan is a babe and I cherish any book that has A LOT of him in it. This is by far my favorite book in this series so far, action packed, swoon worthy, and with great character arcs. Stayed up past 3am to read this, zero regrets.

God... when Olina told everyone her life story I was jus blubbering away like a lil bitch baby

    description

Jovan was behaving so unbelievably boneheaded at that Blaine situation I became convinced he knew something I didn't, because that would be the only excuse for him being so blind and stupid. Olina 👏🏽 is 👏🏽 brilliant 👏🏽 and 👏🏽 you 👏🏽 are 👏🏽 nothing. How dare he question her intellect? I am continually impressed with Lina and continually unimpressed by Jovan. Usually I love a possessive/protective hero, but something about the way he goes about it strikes me as belittling and controlling. It's not cute. I just want to shout at him: "She doesn't need your help! She can do everything you can do, only smarter and with more efficiency!" Ugh I just wish Olina had a love interest as spectacular as she is. Her and Landon fighting together at the end was amazingggg she's such a goddamn badass I'm obsessed

  • Namera [The Literary Invertebrate]

I'm impressed at how little angst there is in terms of Kendrick and Olina's previous relationship. Jovan clearly doesn't care that he's fallen for the girl his dead brother was in love with, and nor does Olina. Admittedly they never had sex but it's still refreshing to see an author not use this for angst points.

Plot-wise, I admit I cared little beyond 'Olina's mother is sending an army to kill them, they have to forestall her'. I don't really remember much of the plot either. But whatever it was, I'm sure it was decent. More importantly, it offered us the opportunity to hear some great banter from Olina and Jovan, which is the real reason you should read this series.

After Fantasy of Flight, I wasn't too sure about this one, afraid of the direction Kelly St. Clare was going to take but I ended up loving this book even more than the first one. I am so happy right now, I had the time of my life reading Fantasy of Fire.

Finally, our heroine, Olina, makes the right choices and stops running everytime something scares her emotionally. Her three different identities from the second book, identities that were bothering me greatly, are not an issue anymore. I loved her so much in this third installment, she grew a lot and learned from her mistakes. I loved the fact that she realized all that and was willing to change. Loyalty, patience, kindness, love, fierceness, devotion, she showed all of that and more in Fantasy of Fire, I fell in love with her character even more.

The romance is finally moving in the right direction and I couldn't be happier. I love King Jovan, how smart, strong and protective he can be. Their relationship took a turn for the better in this book, I had been waiting for it for a long time and it was perfect. I'm glad Kelly waited for them to realize their feelings for each other, they needed that time, especially Olina. She was inexperienced at first and had been in love with Jovan's little brother. She needed to find her true self, to experience life before she could truly face her feelings for him. Jovan is a little different, he's older, more experienced but he was patient and knew she needed time. However, I loved that when he realized time was running out, he gave up all pretense and went public with his feelings. The last few chapters of this book were, by far, the best.

I admit at being frustrated while reading some scenes. Jovan can be a stubborn asshole when he wants to be, but I really liked how the author handled that part of the story. He always made the right decisions, so it was nice to see him in a different light. I liked the fact that, when he realized his mistake, he apologized to everyone and meant it. I also liked the fact that Olina didn't dwell on it, she tried to put herself in his shoes and realized how hard it was for him. Power couple right there. Even if they didn't know it at the time.

The story itself was full of tensions and had me on the edge of seat for most of the book. Things are getting serious between the Bruma and the Solati. War is coming. It was a thrill to read this from Olina's point of view, knowing she's the rightful heir to the Solati but she's choosing to fight with the Bruma. As I've mentioned, the last few chapters are intense in the romance department but not just. The fighting, the suspense, the revelations, I couldn't stop reading.

The secondary characters were, as usual, so fun and entertaining. We get to see the delegation but also Olina's other friends, those who know her as Frost, the pit fighter. I love both sides so I was excited to see them all interacting and become friends.

I can't wait to read the last book in this amazing series, a little sad knowing all will be over after that but extremely excited to see how things are going to end, and, finally, get some important answers.

It has become a tradition to finish Kelly St Clare’s books at 2 am))
There’s just no other way, with all the action and adventurous twists. It’s the third book of the series, and compared to the others, Fantasy of Fire has got +50 to page-turning. At the same time, the action here is of more serious nature, and the plot is so much more solid. I can say with confidence that it’s my favorite book of the series, but not even because of that.
This book has more depth, more character development than the first two combined; more relationship development. I finally got enough of Olina and Jovan! (Not that I don’t crave more ha ha)
I’ve also noticed an improvement in the writing style. It got smoother, richer, so the flow is even better now.
As for the plot, I’m not going to share any spoilers or even hint on what happens in the book, but I am going to say that the pace is better here and the turns and twists are just as surprising as in the first two books.
While I mostly noticed all these things because I’m a writer too, and I can’t help but put every book “up under this microscope, searchin' with a fine tooth comb” (c) I also think that altogether, they make for a stronger novel, and readers will love it. I can’t wait to read the next book, and many books after this series that Kelly will write ;) (You will, right?))

*I got an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

In all honesty, these 4 stars are for the entertainment value of this book. Even though I have my own criticisms of the plot/writing, this series has done well to grab my attention and keep it!

To highlight some of the things I enjoyed: the growth of characters/relationships, the political/war tension, the culmination of past events leading up to this one, and the pacing. It’s true when others say that the confusing/abrupt series of events FINALLY tie together in this book. It was cool to see old and new friends come in to save the day, and for certain truths to finally be revealed.

I feel something holds me back from rating this book higher... I still don’t wholly love Jovan based on his past actions, so I think maybe my this is bleeding into my feelings of the main romance. To love them, I have to forget the things Jovan did that I disliked (). Also, I didn’t voice this in my last review when it happened, but I truly hated their . My dislike for that scene from book 2 has undoubtedly bled into a dislike for their romance in this book, although I’m fighting hard to ignore it!

Regardless, I’m excited to jump into book 4 next!

“Sometimes the hardest tasks yield the best results.”

I don't know about everyone else but this is my favorite book in the series so far! I really liked everything that happened in this book. The storytelling was perfect and Olina just keep kicking ass! She went from the abused Tatuma to the ruthless princess throughout the entire series! I love it! Her character development was really fascinating to read because eventhough some of her choices made her seemed dependent, she can surely hold a fight on her own.

So much had happened but the unveiling was probably my favorite part. I honestly felt the tension and excitement. The trust, understanding and friendships were too admirable on that scene. Every side characters were all admirable, to be honest. I really like Rhone and Shard the most. Also liked the progress between King Jovan and Olina. The last few chapters were such a huge development on their romance.

Fantasy of Frost is the third book in The Tainted Accords and I'm really looking forward to the fourth and final book of this awesome series!

Fantasy of Fire is the 3rd book in the Tainted Accords series, which started with Fantasy of Frost, and Fantasy of Flight.

Gosh this series is good! This one was a little slower to begin with but boy did it pick up by the end!

In this book, we find Olina being pulled in two directions. She is the rightful leader of her home planet, Osolis. Her brothers are there, as well as the village people she cares so much about. But she's been living on Glacium for so long now that the ice world, and the people there that she's come to love, also feels like home. Her evil mother's army is halfway to Glacium and if Olina can't stop them, it will mean an all out war between the two planets and a no win situation for Olina.

And of course, that's not all that's happening. There's civil unrest stirring on Glacium, threatening King Jovan's rule, and Olina is convinced she knows who's behind it. But convincing Jovan of it will be no easy task.

As with all these books, it's the characters and their relationships with each other that really make the story. Sure there's great action and fight scenes, but every character, even many of the minor ones go through so much growth and it really just sucks you in and keeps you hooked.

And can we just talk about Jovan for a minute? Oh Jovan, the ultimate alpha male and the new leader on my book boyfriend list. Broody and intense, but the depth of his love for Olina is swoon worthy.

And after dragging the tension out for most of the first two books, we finally get some real progression in the

    Seriously though - THIS BOOK.

Lina and Jovan finally are starting to understand each out (intimately ;) Also we finally understand the Tatum and Cassius' super evil-ness, an epic battle takes place, the Ire is revealed, Friendships are forged, OMG SO GOOD!!!!!

This book is everything that a series should be and I am so happy to see that these books keep getting better with each release!!!! Now I just can't wait for the final book.

    can't wait

Seriously I find myself replaying these books over and over in my head trying to digest the character development. Lina has become such a great main character over time and more confident in herself. I LOVE IT.

This was a nice addition to the series. I really liked how Jovan and Lina's relationship deepened throughout this read. It was fast paced and I enjoyed all of the characters. I also appreciate it being offered as a kindleunlimited. I guess my only complaint was that I thought this was the last book in the series and I wanted a bit more closure. I will likely still read the next book in the series if its released within a reasonable time frame.

UPDATE: I just saw that book 4 (which when I started this series I thought there were only 3 books in it.............I HATE reading a book where the series isn’t yet complete) isn’t due to be released until late 2016. I liked this series pretty well, but it wasn’t overly memorable enough for me to wait around on - I read so much that in a few months' time, I will have forgotten a lot about the first 3 books - so I doubt I will continue on to book 4 whenever it released.

    And Jovan??

    I would I really would....
I need more Jolina in my life!! Cant wait till August

This was a much sloppier story than the first book. MC keeps running away and forming a new life and identity. She goes from shy, veiled, and despised princess to a champion MMA fighter who wears barely any clothing. The next time she runs away to live with the bird people, she creates yet another false identity. In all 3 of these different lives, she overcomes the suspicion of the people and becomes a beloved hero. She also gains the affections of gentlemen everywhere, quite by accident.

These departures from the main storyline were detrimental. This girl cannot be a universal hero and beauty everywhere she goes.

I was interested in the King in book one, but am having trouble buying his devotion to Alina after all her childish running away. The special snowflake honeymoon period is over. After this weak installment, I’m not invested enough to read the next book. 2.5 stars.

  • Shyralf

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Fabulous read. I can’t even describe how much I loved this book. The characters get more developed and exceeded all expectations. I want to be this heroine, she’s that phenomenal. I love the awesome chemistry she has with King Jovan, it’s palpable, you can’t miss it, it’s beautiful 😍. I love them together, every push and pull is warranted, because they are from 2 different worlds and they are not to mix, it’s forbidden. So the fact that they can’t resist each other is like icing on a cake to me. Off to read the next book. Highly recommend, so addictive. My favorite kind.

  • C.D. Gorri

I am so in love with this story! Olina is growing into such a wonderfully complex character. Kelly St. Clare has built a world that just sucks you in till you become fully immersed. Beautifully depicted fantastical world, lots of action! Can't wait for #4! I highly recommend this series!

  • Megan Louise

Seriously tho.. if you have Kindle Unlimited there is literally no reason to not read this series. I'm obsessed with this world and everyone in it! I'm feeling bitter sweet as I move onto the final book now.

  • Mita

Awesome. Character evolution is on point. Delicious drama. Fantastic action. And romance.... Ugh!!
If you haven't started reading this series, START NOW.
    Excellent. Excellent!

    Absolute Recommend!!!

  • April Neese

Have I told everyone how much I love this series? No? Well, EVERYONE, I LOVE THIS SERIES!

Olina is my clam jam! Strong, but still adorable, witty, not dumb, acts her age, and a fucking bad ass while still being super honest and fair. I love her. And I love love love what is happening between her and the King. Their little moments literally make my heart skip a beat. So swoon worthy.

The action in this book had me anxious! Woooo! On edge! Amazing writing, and amazing everything. The character relationships, the character growth, and all the political drama is a well rounded way to get a fast-paced, heart-pumping story that keeps you interested and invested.

I think the next book is the last one, and it makes me sad, I almost don’t read it- but I want to see the ending these characters I’ve grown to love get!!!
