Ivalu’s Color Reviews
-
I ordered this last year because I wanted to read something by a Greenlandic author. I'll admit never expected the book to be quite this good though. After the murder of three Greenlandic women found inside a shipping container, a Greenlandic, Russian and Chinese trio attempt to solve the case individually, each for their own ends and reasons.
Through the murder of the activists, the author has very cleverly woven in a plot that deals with the socioeconomic and political issues that are present in Greenland today; in essence, the murder is used as a platform to explore these issues, while the murder investigation is still always at the forefront.
The novel 'lacks' in description of climate that I've come used to in other Nordic novels, however this doesn't detract in any way from the plot. Due to the political and socioeconomic subplots, this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and the Greenlandic flavour of it.
