Jughead: The Hunger Reviews
-
A side trip in the Archie Afterlife series, this time with Werewolves. This is not your kid-friendly Riverdale anymore!

2.75 stars
This issue was really interesting, very far from the Archie comics I've known. I have yet to try the Afterlife comics but they seem interesting like this one. Also, the twist with the Coopers and Joneses history was cool. -
A quick, fun addition to the Afterlife mythology. That said I would have preferred this be the next episode of the series proper.....
-
I mean, I love Jughead, I really do, but other than the art I think this could've been done better.
-
Not a part of the Afterlife With Archie series but like the Sabrina book, it takes place in a darker, more realistic Riverdale where the supernatural effects the characters.
Here we learn that a killer is stalking the town and some of the characters familiar to readers have already met a horrible end. We learn who the person responsible is and the end hints that a sequel could be possible.
If you don't mind a different take on Archie and his friends you might enjoy this. Also, as it isn't part of the ongoing series a new reader won't be lost. -
I apparently didn't drink the Kool aid.

Unf to the cover's finish. A+ story! I need all the Archie horror!!

3.5 Stars
I'm a huge fan of the Afterlife with Archie series, as well as the horror Sabrina series as well. This book was in the vein of that universe, where Jughead is a werewolf. The only thing that was a little silly in this one is that Betty is supposedly the latest in a long bloodline of werewolf hunters, ala Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That seemed to take the book from horror to the edge of comedy, although this book was not presented as comedy.
I loved the art, and the overall setting and mood of the book was excellent. Definitely not your grandparents Archie, and a good read overall. -
There's really not a lot to this one-shot. Jughead is a werewolf. Another of Archie's friends is a werewolf killer. they have conflict. It gets resolved... in a fashion. Other than the interesting art style, there's really not much to recommend this, especially in comparison to Afterlife with Archie or Chilling Tales of Sabrina, both of which are much stronger in content and execution.

One of the best one shots I've ever read.
I really like the zombie Archie series they are doing so when they said they were gonna do werewolves I was pretty excited. The art is great and the story is properly spooky. I wont give too much away but if you just want a taste of the scary Archie universe, this is a good place to start. -
This was an amazing one shot! Archie Horror is killing it with their creativity, and stories. Highly recommend it.

Decent beginning
This was a nice start to what should be an interesting take on the gang and their dynamic. Two of them are given backgrounds that make them more and less a true part of Riverdale. Things are kept simple and fairly clean considering it is a comic for teens and the subject matter could be really gruesome if allowed.
Basically a fun take on an old subject with the wholesome teens taking on the horror genre.
I enjoyed it. -
You know, I was in the mood for something to read for the halloween spirit and came across this beauty right here. I don't think I had this much fun reading a comic in a very long time.
The story is impeccably and remain true to the original characters and their personality and histories. They are the same Archie, Veronica and Betty we all grow up and fall for (at least if you even know anything about Archie besdies Riverdale, lol) and using werewolf into the mix is quiet interesting concept. I'm still intrigue where this one shot will pick up afterwords, espacially after that ending which I will not talk about since, the moment you open this comic you wont stop until you finished reading. It is just that god damm fun. You clearly seeing that Frank Tieri put alot of effort and had a blast writing this.
Jughead the hunger is yet another incrediable installment in this new line of Archie comics where they mixing our beloved gang of characters in the horror genre. If you haven't tried this one yet, please do. READ THIS. It's worth it. -
This Archie Horror series reinvents Archie's gluttonous pal as a reluctant werewolf.
Gory and blackly humorous, Jughead: The Hunger gives readers the chance to see various Archie Comics regulars eviscerated by the so-called "Riverdale Ripper." It's also an emotional tale that adds new layers to characters we know and love. Despite his penchant for human flesh, this incarnation of Jughead is fairly similar to his persona from the original comics; it's weirdly compelling to see such an affable character dragged through the wringer. The comic also deserves kudos for the revelation that Betty is part of a long line of hardened werewolf hunters, and that her lovesick subservience was all a ruse to get close to Jughead. -
I love the retellings of Archie and gang. With that, I felt this one fell a little flat. Afterlife with Archie it is not. I still enjoyed it. The art works with the story. A little more gruesome than I would expect at times. I don't wan tot get into any spoilers but I have questions about a few things that were not explained in the book.

So I am only gonna write one review for all of them unless I run across one that I am not so fond of. I am enjoying the scary storyline of this Archie series. I was so surprised at how much I liked it. It has depth and character and I need to know what happens next.

This book is all right. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or the proper Afterlife with Archie series. I’ll maybe read the next installment in the series, but it’s not high on my radar.
-
Was extremely excited to start this spinoff due to the fact it reminded me of Archie's weird mysteries as a kid and I ate that show up!
I could not put this down and I'm excited to start the next. Very graphic and violent. Which I was very surprised about! -
Bloody love these Archie Horror comics 😁
Jughead is hungry, more so than usual. Why? -
Enjoyable but too short!
I'm a massive jughead fan so I was looking forward to this and it doesn't disappoint apart from the length. -
Jughead can't catch a break lately ever since the Archie comics took the horror route!
-
eh. meh. Take it or leave it.

Where do I get one of those crowns?

Yo, Betty the Werewolf Slayer is kind of awesome. Great one-shot, I love all of the Afterlife with Archie spinoffs.
