Soldier's Girl : Love Story of a Para Commando Reviews
-
This book where I found the true meaning of love, the author perfectly describes the feeling of being an Army girlfriend or wife. Ananya- a college graduate was unaware of the game her arch rival was playing with her. She was entrapped in false allegations, which compelled her parents to fix her wedding. She was glad to find Captain Akash’s number in her father’s diary. The first encounter drives her crazy, the attitude and masculine aura leaves her spell-bound. Coincidentally, she began her career in the same city where he was posted. The boring evening after office, turned into romantic encounters at the Flurry’s. With the passage of time and more coffee pouring into their cups, they fall in love where no one admits.
“A man in love is not simple. He will be unpredictable, persistent and stubborn.”
“You know you never fall in love but always rise in love. Love always brings the best out of you. It is pure and pious, never dark!”
Being the part of Captain Akash’s life, Ananya found some new friends to party and get sloshed. She matched shoulder to shoulder with Army wives and gentlemen at the Army Ball practice sessions. Yes, the sexy couple won the Army Ball Dance Competition smoking up the dance floor. The fairy tale story had war as the villain, when Captain Akash had to depart for his mission. Ananya waited for his emails impatiently, and made thinking about him. Captain Anant made a special place in her heart as a friend when Captain Akash was busy in the combat. The war worsened and she had to say goodbye to Anant as well.
“The governments create the wars but the people pay the price.”
The solitude engulfed her life, where she waited to hear about them. Yes, Anant returned back and Akash didn’t. It was one of the heart-wrenching moments in the story… for those of you who didn’t turn a single page of this book… I would say “Hold your tears for the best is yet to come.”
“1 universe
9 planets
204 countries
809 islands
7 seas
And I had the privilege of meeting you!
Akash”
Yes, Captain Akash will make you go weak in your knees. -
A very poor storyline. Really bad sentence construction and poor grammar. The author could have benefitted from good editing. The plotline may be excused as a first effort, however the poor workmanship is inexcusable. In this case the publishers and the author are equally culpable.

"If you think soldiers are strong, you should look at their girls."
Unbelievably romantic and brutally thrilling, "Soldier's Girl" by Swapnil Pandey invites all the readers to peek into the world different from everyone and dive deep into the story extraordinaire of an Army Girlfriend.
Fashionista Ananya meets and accidentally falls in love with Captain Aakash, a deadly Para Commando who slithers from helicopters, slaughters deadly terrorists, saves innocent hostages, follows unconventional warfare and sleeps with his rifle. Love blooms slowly until fate intervenes and takes Aakash on a mission far away from Ananya. He abandons her after a passionate love making for surgical strikes at LOC. Still everything seemed fine as she had her share of fun with Captain Anant until a brutal war breaks and the miseries engulf her soul. Aakash goes missing but Anant returns.
The once in a lifetime love whose romance is witnessed by the Victorian streets of Kolkata is surely not one of those typical love stories yet it's nothing less than a fairytale either. But the perks that comes with loving a warrior is to die every single day and yet feel alive. Here the band of brothers replaces the 'Uncles and Auntyjis', the army wives replaces usual women, the commando replaces the nerds. The band of brothers redefines friendship while the glittering world of Army life projects the layers within. And amidst all the chaos exist two delicate hearts bound by one thread.
The book showcases the author's deep emotions and her intimate connections with the Army life. The way she feels proud of all the courageous army wives out there is visibly present all through the story. Every single element present in the book proves that author Swapnil Pandey has invested all her heart into the story.
Accompanied with humour, irony and sarcasm which forms the core element of the book, the story is overtly hilarious at certain points. The humour that binds the story helps the readers to overcome the grief and brutality that the story later focuses on, to a certain extent.
Lucid language, swift flow and steady storyline ensures that the book is a quick and easy read while contributing towards enhancing one's vocabulary too.
The book skillfully captures the essence of Kolkata and is enough to make one fall in love with the city of joy. The tryst between Ananya and Aakash that happens in the streets of Kolkata makes the city more dear to the heart.
The book is elegantly filled with deep thoughts and powerful reflections that makes one stop and wonder for a while. Life's mysterious yet beautiful ways of acting is highlighted time and again through these soulful reflections.
The book also stands as the testimony to the woman world and its complicated system of action. Author Swapnil Pandey takes the pleasure of divulging to the readers the core elements of the women's mind and how remarkably unique are its ways of acting. No wonder sometimes even women themselves fail to understand their own self.
The brutality of war, the cruelty of the war-mongers and the savage outcome of greed is vividly manifested in the short but remarkably weaved chapters. The loss it caused, the pain it evoked and the tortures that it induced, everything is depicted so meticulously that it makes the heart bleed and the eyes burn in tears.
Several stark realities come to light, truths that everyone knows but none admits. Several lines embrace the books which are committed to point out the futility of wars and how in a war everyone is a loser except for the maddening greed of the war-mongers.
The betrayal that comes at the end of the book is heartbreaking and totally unexpected. It doesn't hurt that much when the enemies harm but it kills when friends are the reason behind the pain. The agony of that back-stab is hard to forget, even if the incident is forgiven and forgotten. The book proves this yet again.
A subtle fairytale element wanders throughout the book as the author goes on to hint that true love has the power to conquer all evils and come out victorious in the end. Love is the only thing that can make fairytales come alive.
The characters are beyond perfection. It felt as if they came straight out of some perfect fairytale story and then given the shape of reality. Ananya's character is something every girl can relate to but it is her wild experiences that are extraordinary and something which moulds her into becoming a better version of herself. After all, she is the army girlfriend, how can she not be courageous and determined? The character of Aakash is exactly like a true soldier, dedicated equally towards his country and his lady love. The dedication with which he performs his duty at the war raises him and all the soldiers out there to a position where we can only salute them for everything they do for us, that too silently and without any expectations of praise, and never comes forward to claim their victory. Captain Anant who was a great solace to Ananya and a friend to Aakash is also an outstanding performer. All other characters, even if present for a short span of time, played their role in a good relatable manner.
The title of the story cannot be more perfect. It refers to Ananya whose position elevated to the "Soldier's Girl" as soon as she accepted the love of a Para Commando. And hence began her journey to be that courageous woman back home who silently waits for and supports her knight in shinning armour who is fighting the wars at the battlefield.
The captivating cover compliments the title perfectly exhibiting two different scenes. One is at the battlefield where the soldiers are at their duty of protecting their motherland from foreign invasions and another back home where a yearning heart and a brave soul waits patiently for her lover's return, while her determined eyes burns with love, courage and pride for her fearless soldier.
Packed with romance, bundled with humour, laden with thrill and loaded with suspense, "Soldier's Girl" by Swapnil Pandey welcomes everyone to the fairytale-like military romance that thrills as well as calms the heart.

I really wanted to like this book but I'm sorry to say I found it so hard to finish.
Poor spelling, sentence structure, going of rails, tense mix ups... I'm not sure where to start.
Poor execution of what could have been an interesting love story.
😢 -
loved it.
the climax was what bring a turmoil to me. I thought it was going to be a routine story. but I loved the way u gave the ending.
keep writing :) -
Left me tooo overwhelmed with emotions. A must read for every army girlfriend who loves her solider dearly and waiting for him seems an honour for her!!
-
Felt artificial.
Very predictable plots. The ending was rushed. It was good in sections, which were rare though. Didn't enjoy it much. -
“ Our flag does not fly because the winds moves it flies with the last breath of each solider who died protecting it.”
This Indian Army Quote makes us respect our armed forces but when you read a book which gives just few glimpses of the hardships, challenges and service before self ethos the brave men of our forces live and undergo, it gives u goose bumps.
Before proceeding ahead with my review I would like give “Special mention to the cover. It's beautifully crafted.”
Secondly I would like to compliment Swapnil for the wonderful plot.
What makes story awesome is the narration of the book......whether it was college Rave party, Summer Ball dance, Kolkata eateries & markets, Fort Williams description, Army club & curtsies.....just everything was so relatable.
Each & every minute details are well expressed right from outfit description to background set up details of Fort Williams, AOI.....all so well chosen
Detailed Insights on Military & Naval operations with a robust planning was inspiring. You will transported into the story to understand each character & feel emotions. This is the strength of this book.
The story is narrated from Ananya’s point of view & writer has done full justice to it. It starts from the rave party in the boys hostel on the last day of College when Ananya gets herself into a massive trouble. Like a typical Indian family marriage was only saviour to bring Ananya on the right track. This is how Capt Aakash enters her life but being career oriented she outrightly rejects him despite her instant attraction towards him. But destiny overrules & she gets her job in the same city where Capt Aakash was posted. They connected again as friends but all the time pushing their love & desire. Finally Aakash expressed his feelings but before they could hear their wedding bells Aakash had to leave for an emergency at the J&K border. They remained in touch through emails & letters. In the meantime Ananya & Capt. Anant who was Aakash’s batchmate also became good friends. After few days Anant was also asked to report for emergency military operations at J&K. While Ananya was alone & distressed but it only strengthened her love for Aakash. After few days Capt. Anant comes back but Aakash goes missing with a heart broken Ananya behind.
Does Aakash & Ananya have a future together?
What happened when Aakash goes missing?
Will Ananya wait for him or move on with Capt Anant?
One needs to read this interesting and very emotional book to get the answers. Wouldn't like to reveal much details abt the story but all I can say It's a very impactful Book and I would definitely recommend everyone to read it. It's got everything a great love story can have. -
Not even worth one star. This book made me want to throw my head against the wall. The characters were so bad. Oh my God! I can make a long list of my rants on this book but I don't think it's worth even that of my energy. Trust me, I have waste every last of brain cells reading this stupid book.
Reading the good reviews is making me question everyone's sanity here. Have you all read the same book as I??
The female character, oh my my, she is dumb. Where do I start from? Ok, she didn't want to marry, and then over a phone call hears the guy's voice and swoons over him instantly like wtf! Just a "hello" did that to you girl?
She brands the guy a liar as soon as he utters even a word of his military life. Like girl, yes they do partake in various sports and other activities than going to war.
Let's talk about the guy, shall we?
He is another dumb one that makes me sure that yep, they are made for each other. Well if you are going to reveal all your mission secrets- where you are positioned, how many of you are there-to a girl over an email. Boy, you need to just get out of the military. We don't need heroes like you.
And the S-e-x scene. God, I am going to throw up. " little Mountains"?
I just want to take some pills and sleep. My head hurts. -

Can a book be given 10 stars out of 5? If yes, then this deserves 100. 33 years in the Army, I always maintained that true my can only be experienced not explained. Here's a book which comes so close to describing it accurately. Peppered with a love story yes - but still does the best job of describing the life, travails and emotions of Army families.

A beautiful insight into a Soldier's love and life. Definite Read
