Southern girl Verity Long is about as high society as her pet skunk. Which is why she’s surprised as anyone when the new head of the Sugarland social set invites her to join the "it" girls. But this is no social call. Verity’s new client needs her to go in undercover and investigate strange happenings at the group’s historic headquarters.

But while spirits are whispering hints of murder, the socialites are more focused on Verity’s 1978, avocado-green Cadillac. And when Verity stumbles upon a fresh body, she's going to need the long-dead citizens of Sugarland to help her solve the crime. Good thing she has the handsome deputy sheriff Ellis Wydell on hand, as well as her ghostly sidekick Frankie. The bad thing is, the ghosts are now whispering about the end of a certain ghost hunter.

I really loved the case in this book. Verity is forced to finally start interacting with the living folks of Sugarland after being ostracized by Virginia Wydell. I like how some of the citizens actually like Verity and supported her. She needs to involved in Sugarland activities again. The case brings Verity back into Virginia’s social orbit and not with the best results. This part of the book bothered me a little but it was good to see Verity and Virginia get into a verbal spat.

The author found a great way to get Verity hired for this job and it was good see that Verity was actually hired to do a ghost job. I do like how the author is showing a lot of different ways for Verity to not only take on cases but also interact with ghosts. The case is very obvious and show is the secret of the society house. It is so obvious it made Verity and most of the residents of Sugarland look like idiots for not being able to see what was going on.

There are a few reasons why I won’t give another book in this series more than 3 stars. First up is Frankie’s lack of respect for Verity – it gets worse and worse in every book and then again Verity freaks out about Frankie actions which is weird considering he is a gangster and she can’t see any of it unless he lets her. Two is the author really needs to figure out a way to solve Verity’s money problems – either let her become a paid ghost hunter or give the girl a part-time job at least – her lack of food and other comforts could easily be solved. Third is that Verity is such a good girl that is starting to border on her being a total “door mat”. She defends herself but only after being backed into a corner with no other choice. The rest of time she claims she is being a “good Southern girl” – well no one else in the book is so why should Verity at least get a little bit of a backbone.

I thought that this was a fun story! It has been a little more than a year since I listened to the previous book in this series and I really enjoyed getting back to it. Verity has her work cut out for her once again with a new mystery and a frustrating ghostly sidekick. I had such a good time with this one that I was able to listen to the entire book in less than a day.

Verity receives a call for help from a historic home, now a museum, but when the police arrive there is nobody there. Her ghostly sidekick, Frankie, is busy turning her home into a gambling paradise for all the neighborhood ghosts. To top it off, a society group wants her to join their ranks and her boyfriend’s mother is out to cause trouble. When a dead body shows up, Verity thinks it is more than just an accident and wants to get to the bottom of things but she may find out the answers to a few other mysteries before she is done. I really liked all of the characters in this book and especially enjoyed what we learned and some of the developments involving some of the ghosts.

Tavia Gilbert does a fantastic job with the narration of this series. The voices that she uses for the various characters are all very distinctive and help to bring the characters to life. I thought that she added a lot of excitement and some humor to her reading which helped to make this a very pleasant listening experience.

I would definitely recommend this series to others. This is the fifth book in the series which could work as a stand-alone if necessary but the series is best when read in order if at all possible. I really enjoyed trying to figure out this mystery with Verity and was pleased to find a few surprises along the way. I look forward to reading more of this series very soon.

This is another amazing Southern Ghost Hunter book by Angie Fox, and I swear they get better and better every single time! Verity Long has been the topic of gossip for a long time now in her home town, but like any real southern belle, she holds her head up and keeps on going. I love the way she has not let Virginia Wydell chase her away. But in this book we see some instances of Virginia and verity not only agreeing, but working together. And that is just the first shocker here. I love the story involving the heritage house and the surprise of the real history there. I think the real history is much more fun! And nope, I did not know who did it before the killer was unmasked in this one. I really thought I knew, but I was wrong. I liked that as well. And I love Molly and think that if Frankie does not mess this up he could grow to enjoy his afterlife in a less chaotic (to verity) way. Frankie will always be a gangster, but it might be fun watching him try to be a better man. I said TRY, didn't say he would make it LOL. Oh and the hints about great grandmother Ida, I do hope she makes an appearance in another installment! All in all Verity is so very fun to read, and I look so forward to each new installment!

I haven't read any cosy crime in ages. This is a new author for me and I really enjoyed the Southern setting. It's an area of America that fascinates me but I think would drive me nuts if I had to live there based on books and TV. I'm definitely more Verity than society girl. I like that she solves crimes with the help of ghosts. Who knew just going somewhere and asking them would work? If only all crime series just asked the ghosts, Taggart would be a lot different certainly...

Anyway I really liked Verity as a character and will definitely have to go back and read the previous 4 as I want to know how she ended up dumping one brother for another. I  loved Frankie the 1940's crime boss ghost. I'm looking forward to what will happen with his new found softer side.

Not a great deal seemed to happen about the murder really. Most of the book is taken up by Verity talking to the ghosts and while it was in attempt to solve the murder I was left wanting a bit more in that area. The same with the eventual reveal of the true history of the house. I think that's why I can only read cosy crimes for a short while; too much gets glossed over to make it that 'cosy' style. I read this quickly enough and it did keep me engaged. As mentioned I liked the characters and will probably go back and read the rest.

Always a winner and an automatic purchase for me. Crazy adventures and romance along with go ole southern manners mixed in. Verity seems to always solve her case no matter what it is. This time she actually might get paid for it. I loved this light hearted book.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox

Humorous and engaging mystery. It can be read as a stand alone but a richer experience if others have been read prior.
Fifth book in the Southern Ghost Hunter mystery series.

Verity has a ghost hunting business thanks to the gangster ghost that has been grounded to her ancestral home. Frankie is cranky, a gambler, and a liar. Borrowing his power allows Verity to see other ghosts and solve crimes. And she quite often gets in the middle of domestic issues, angry ghosts and malicious mischief.

This book deepens relationships between Verity and Ellis, Verity and Frankie, and even the woman that has caused Verity the most grief - the mother of her former fiancé - Virginia.
Virginia is not a nice person. I hope Ellis realizes how manipulative she is at some point.

Verity's sister doesn't play a huge roll in this series, but I thought this passage is indicative of the series fun and humor.
    Excerpt:
“We stayed at my sister’s that night, which should have made Frankie happy, only it didn’t because Melody lived in an old schoolhouse that had been converted into loft apartments.
How was I supposed to know there’d still be kids running through the halls?
Melody was a perkier, blonder, thinner version of me. “Can Frankie buy things on the ghostly plane?” she asked, pouring me a glass of fresh-brewed iced tea.
“Sometimes.” His immaterial gains tended to disappear after a short while. It didn’t stop Frankie from pursuing them. “The only things a ghost can have permanently are what he died with.”
“Well, that settles it, then,” she said, making herself a cup of decaf. “I’m carrying my Keurig with me wherever I go.”
Excerpt From: Fox, Angie. “Sweet Tea and Spirits.”

One of my favorite cozy mystery series is the Southern Ghost Hunter. I enjoy small town southern girl Verity Hunt struggling against the old tabbies of the town, getting past her disastrous near-wedding to the cheating golden boy of town by falling for his older, sweeter brother, and her accidental introduction to the world of ghostly mayhem when she is stuck with a gangster ghost who puts the 'life' into afterlife.

Verity, with Frankie's dubious help, tumbles into murder and ghostly troubles with each new series installment. I started them out of order, but I did see how getting them in order made sense of some things that are understood by this point in the series.

In this latest, Verity finds herself tangling once again with Sugarland's high society ladies including her boyfriend, Ellis' snobby and conniving mother, Virginia, when she is hired to calm the ghosts at the old manor where the historical society meets. Verity wants nothing to do with the plastic set, but she can't turn her back on a phone call for help that seems to be from a ghost. The trouble leads to murder and now she is definitely in for the long haul with Ellis at her side. Meanwhile, she needs to help Frankie sort some troubles on the ghostly plain when he tangles with a dangerous ghost of a Chicago mobster and gets his first ghostly romantic efforts in a tangle.

These are light and fun on one level since sweet Verity is winging it much of the time and has to force Frankie her gangster ghost's cooperation with bribes and promises, but there are other layers like struggling still with Virginia Wydell's hatred for Verity because she left her son Beau at the altar and began dating another son, Ellis, a sterling man that his mother under-appreciates because he went into humble police work.

The mysteries are clever and entertaining though not really complex. I enjoy how there is always a ghost problem attached to the mystery and the settings tend to be a little creepy and tied to the past as a result.

Tavia Gilbert is a fantastic narrator match for this series and I'm never more pleased than when I can click on and listen in as she voices Verity and Frankie along with the rest of the characters. A light Southern drawl for Verity and a tough guy 20's shtick for Frankie. She hits just the right note of lightness with excitement throughout the story. She will insert more emotion into her voice when the situation calls for it so she is acting and not merely storytelling, but it never feels overdone.

All in all, it was good times and leaves me pleasantly anticipating my next encounter with Verity and Frankie as they get tangled up in a new ghostly adventure. This series is for those who like to add paranormal to their cozy mystery.

This review was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure"
I received an earc for review and i voluntary choose to review the book

really do love this series and it's so well written that even if you are new to the series you could still enjoy this one as the author does remind us of the important events that happened to lead to the actual situation. Still if you can start by the beginning it's too good to miss.

However, let see this specific story first.
Verity has decided to accept her gift and try to make a job of it when Frankie agree to lend a bit of its power which isn't often done without some bargaining. She still believes in him but our gangster has quite a mind of its own though a certain lady is perhaps changing that. On the sentimental side, Verity 's relationship with Ellis is evolving well....at least as long as they are left to their own .

We do learn a bit more about Verity's ancestry and i would be happy to meet Ida, we discover Ellis' mother ....i hated her in book 1 and i still do! That woman is intelligent but such a monster...she knew what her son did but still has it against Verity even after trying to take her last cent! Now she is acting again and i so would like to see her punished ( and of course i still want Beau to pay dearly for what he did!) because for her all is about appearance.
We also see a bit more of the south's tradition and i really love that. It's funny to see how the city forgot his history to change it to what would feel more acceptable....but i do appreciate that some try to rectify that like Verity. I must say that i'm curious to see how Verity will manage in those society club.

So for the investigation itself it was really funny, i loved the different ghosts and the rhythm was perfect keeping you glued to the book . You want to know the culprit and to see him (or they) get what they deserve....it can take time ( i mean looks for Beau he sure deserves to be punished but so far he isn't) but i'm sure we won't be disappointed.

There is a lot of humour , Molly and Henrietta are some ghosts you will love, Frankie has some ideas to win money after all for him all is about money generally and if it annoys Verity the better. Romance and i won't tell you more about this part you will have to see. Action, because Verity can't stand by or keep her mouth shut but that's why we love.

Really even if you are new to the series don't hesitate to read this you will spend a great time!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Back with a new adventure with Frankie, the ghost, and Verity, his unwitting human contact, Sweet Tea and Spirits is all about tracking down the ghostly goings on at the Sugarland Heritage Society. I love these books with loveable characters, a creditable mystery and a lite paranormal ghostly presence. Fun reading.

Verity receives a ghostly phone call telling her that someone has been murdered at the Sugarland Heritage Society. Seconds later Verity's boyfriend, Officer Ellis Wydell, gets a call about a disturbance at the same place. When Ellis arrives no dead body or break in. The next day Verity drops by and has a chat with the new president, Julia, who shows Verity some very strange happenings and hires her to find out what is going on, on the ghostly plain, of course.

From there Verity encounters a real dead body and several ghosts who are not very cooperative. She also has a run in with Ellis's mother, Virginia, aka "the witch", who has made it her life mission to make Verity's life miserable and discredit her in the community any way she can. But this time around they find they need to work together to solve the murder and get to the bottom on all the strange goings on.

Add to all this, Frankie has his own set of problems with a nasty ghost named Mick "The Angel Maker". Verity is merely a good Southern girl who has gotten caught up with a stubborn, shady, gangster ghost and is just trying to make the best of it.

Five books and I still love this series.
I struggle a little with the male characters but the women are the stars and they more than make it worthwhile.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. And because I am an avid romance and paranormal reader, which is why this book drew me to want to read it, and I was not disappointed. I loved the book and I have a couple of books from the beginning of the series which I will definitely read because I want to start the story from the beginning where I can get to know Verity and her special power to talk to the dead and where I can understand what went on with Ellis's brother and how she ended up with Ellis, when it should have been hard with everything she went through with his brother. Can't wait to read the whole story, and if you love paranormal and romance books then you will love this book so much that you will not want to put it down.

Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox is the fifth book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. Verity Long is enjoying a quiet moment with her boyfriend, Ellis Wydell when she receives a phone call. The call is from the Sugarland Heritage Society and the caller says, “I need you” and “There’s been a murder”. Ellis is then dispatched to investigate a break in at the same location. He finds the building locked up tight, but the security alarm was set off. Verity becomes the laughingstock of the town when no body was found (gossip spreads quickly in Sugarland). Verity talks Frankie into loaning her his power (after some bartering), and they set off to explore the heritage society. The heritage society building was once a Home for Wayward Widows and Orphans run by Mother Mary Cooper. Verity is greeted by Julia Harper Youngblood, the newly elected president of the Sugarland Heritage Society. She recently ousted Verity’s arch nemesis, Virginia Wydell (happy dance for Verity). It is immediately obvious that ghosts are on the premises, and they are having fun with the society’s displays. Julia hires Verity to explore the spirit activity and pays her in cash (which puts Frankie in a jovial mood). As Verity is leaving the heritage society, she gets roped into becoming a member. Frankie has gotten himself into hot water with Mick “The Angel Maker”, and he needs to go on the lam (Verity finds the perfect spot for him). Verity returns to the heritage society that night to talk to the ghosts who inhabit the house and finds Julia dead at the bottom of the stairs. While the officer on scene believes it is an accident, Verity knows she was murdered. Verity wants to find Julia’s killer, and she will need a little ghostly help to accomplish it. Verity is surprised when she gets some assistance from an unexpected source. In her spare time, Verity needs to get Mick “The Angel Maker” to forgive Frankie and find out why Frankie is looking so spiffy (and acting strangely). Just another normal week for Verity in Sugarland, Tennessee. Join in on the fun by reading Sweet Tea and Spirits!

Sweet Tea and Spirits is a humorous novel. You will find yourself laughing frequently at Verity and Frankie’s antics. The book is well-written and engaging. The characters are endearing and quirky (especially Frankie). I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before starting Sweet Tea and Spirits. It will help you to understand Verity’s financial situation, her relationship with Frankie, and why she became a ghost hunter. I have found each book in the series is better than the previous one. I give Sweet Tea and Spirits 5 out of 5 stars. Sweet Tea and Spirits is jam packed, but it all ties together for one hilarious and sweet story. There is an unexpected romance, ghostly horse racing (and gambling), an unexpected alliance, and a historical home with a surprising history. The mystery is more complicated than past whodunits in the series, but it is still easily solved. It is nice to see Verity’s character develop as she explores the supernatural and as her relationship with Ellis deepens. It was also nice to see change in Frankie. It was unexpected and amusing. I will impatiently wait for Angie Fox’s next book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries.

    Review Courtesy of Romance Junkies

Verity Long wants nothing more than to get her ghost consulting business up and running. She receives an eerie phone call from the Sugarland Heritage Society reporting a murder. Verity visits the historical building where the group hosts their meetings when the police find no hint of a crime. A distressed society president hires Verity to inconspicuously investigate the house’s strange nocturnal events. Things take a drastic turn for the worst when her client ends up dead, however, Verity refuses to give up on the job. Can Verity persuade the building’s resident ghosts to help her solve the murder? Or will her ghostly sidekick’s latest shenanigans cause Verity to be the next victim?

Verity continues to amaze me with her steady progress in the supernatural. Sometimes she finds herself over her head, yet she tackles each obstacle in her own unique way. I love how Verity manages to remain the same upbeat and fun heroine I enjoyed from book one. I admire the lengths she is willing to take to remain with Ellis. Verity refuses to allow a certain waspish society matron to antagonize her; instead, she would rather remain neutral for her relationship’s sake. What I like the most about this story is that Verity learns something interesting about her own family line.

Frankie the ghostly gangster pleasantly surprised me in this story. At first, he continues in his usual outrageous manner, but as the story progresses, Frankie starts to mature into the good person Verity always suspected him to be. I think he needed the right person in his afterlife to steer him in the right direction. I love that he finds such a person in this story.

SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS is book five in Angie Fox’s bestselling series, SOUTHERN GHOST HUNTER MYSTERIES. The story can stand alone, however, to better understand Verity’s growth in the supernatural, it is necessary to read the books in order. I love seeing how Verity and Ellis’s relationship continues to progress in each book. I like that Ellis provides her with the legal limitations Verity has on each case.

SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS is a perfect mixture of mystery and paranormal but southern style. I enjoy the light-hearted fun the author weaves in the story. Angie Fox never fails to entertain me with this series. I cannot wait for further shenanigans with Frankie, Verity and Ellis.

I cannot express how much I love this series! It's quirky, funny, romantic, and adventurous. And this book is no exception to the rule. Angie Fox has an amazing talent for character development and storytelling that makes this book a compelling, can't-put-it-down read that drives a need for more. Ellis is the perfect southern gentleman boyfriend, frankie is just the right amount of sass and spunk for a sidekick (even if he can be a real jerk) Virginia is a love-to-hate antagonist that pushes you to hate her even as you understand her feelings. I highly recommend this series and this book to anyone willing to listen to my humble opinion

  • Karen

I finished Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox Sunday and it was a great ghost mystery with a fun and exciting twist I did not see coming when I sat down to read it. Now I am almost convinced I read an earlier book in this series as I felt so at home in this paranormal cozy.
What makes this a fun read is the hierarchy of the community and social status not just among the living but also with the very active community of the undead as well. I would absolutely read another book in this series happily!

    ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL !!!
    Title: Sweet Tea and Spirits
    Series: Southern Ghost Hunters Mysteries
Designation: Book 5 of Series, Full-Length Standalone, NO Cliffhanger
    Author: Angie Fox
    Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY CUTE STARS*****
I adore cozy mysteries, love gripping suspense and totally addicted to anything supernatural but throw in a little sweet romance and I'm totally smitten! Unfortunately, it's often difficult to find all four elements in one book but fortunately, I've found an author that brilliantly combines them all into one exceptional story. Angie Fox has delighted her readers yet again with Sweet Tea and Spirits, a full-length standalone and fifth release in the Southern Ghost Hunters Mysteries Series and I totally loved it! Although this is a standalone story which can be enjoyed all on its own, I highly recommend at least reading the first book of the series, Southern Spirits which will give you the premise and backstory for all the releases in the collection. I became a diehard Angie Fox fan several years ago after reading The Accidental Demon Slayer, the outrageously funny first release in Fox's best-selling Biker Witches Mystery Series, another fabulous collection I highly recommend, especially if you love your mystery generously laced with side-splitting humor. But I digress, let's talk about Sweet Tea and Spirits. The book is imaginative, unique, exciting, cute, sweet, heartwarming, well crafted and well edited with a beautiful, eye-catching cover. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person from the perspective of the heroine, Verity Long. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. I love all the components of this story but it's the characters that completely steal the show. They literally explode from the pages, grab your attention, come to life in your imagination, and completely capture your heart! They are fascinating, captivating, realistic, engaging, relatable and humorous. Fox skillfully combines these elements to craft a deliciously cute and delightfully entertaining whodunit filled to the brim with danger, drama, humor, ghosts, suspense, plot twists, and even a little heartbreaking angst and heartwarming romance.

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! It's my new favorite! Yeah, yeah, I know I say the same thing after every book in this series but I just can't help myself. lol.. I adore the Southern Ghost Hunters World and the fictional town of Sugarland, Tennessee as well as the vividly depicted characters Fox has created for this series. Verity Long is an absolute delight and Ellis Wydell is one hunk of burning love! lol... And never fear, Verity's gangster ghost Frankie from the flapper era is around to cause all kinds of trouble and Lucy, the pet skunk, is ever present for a little heartwarming comic relief. And the supporting characters in this little story just completely captured my heart! I giggled, snorted, snuffled and sniffed through the entire story. Would I recommend it? You bet and I am, for ages twelve to a hundred and twelve! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! Was I entertained? Completely and totally entertained! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Premise: Although the last year has been difficult for Verity Long, it has also been surprisingly busy for the beautiful former aspiring graphic designer from Sugarland Tennessee. Unfortunately, the one thing it hasn't been is profitable. Despite successfully solving several murders, life continues to be difficult. Verity is still short on funds and desperately trying to hang on to the home she inherited from her grandmother. She lost absolutely everything after breaking off her engagement last year with her lying, cheating, now ex-fiance Beau Wydell, youngest and favored son of wealthy, influential town aristocrat Virginia Wydell. Her graphic design services had been in demand until her almost mother-in-law used her influence to ruin her and her business. Had it been left up to the vengeful Virginia Wydell, Verity would have been tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Now it seems no one in Sugarland needs her services so she's embarked on a new career and a whole new business...as a ghost hunter. Yup, she's officially out of the closet and has been for months, or rather since her interview with Ovis Dupree, guest investigative reporter from the local newspaper, The Sugarland Gazette. And that's not the only change in her life. Her kinda-sorta-maybe, once hush-hush and on-the-sly boyfriend Deputy Sheriff Ellis Wydell is now her very public main squeeze! And yes, Ellis and Beau are related - they're brothers! Huh? Oh yes, brothers! As you can imagine, the news was not well received by Virginia Wydell. And let's not forget her sweet little pet skunk Lucy and her very dead, black and white gangster ghost housemate, Franklin Rudolph Winkelmann aka Frankie the German. Yup, I said ghost. Frankie became trapped on Verity's property when she unknowingly dumped the ashes from his urn onto the roots of her rose bush. Oh no! But in her defense, she had no idea what they were and what would happen. So until she can figure out a way to free Frankie, she's stuck with the not-so-nice wise guy criminal from the flapper era who has turned her backyard shed into a speakeasy and hideout for him and his ghost gang cronies. Verity is barely scraping by with very little food and even less money. But on the bright side, she does have her pet skunk, Lucy, a hot hunky boyfriend, and, on occasion, Frankie does actually lend her, albeit begrudgingly, some of his power so she can see all those otherworldly things that go bump in the night. But things are looking up. At least, she still has her grandma's home and she's even managed to solve a few cases. Now, if she could manage to find a job that actually pays cash, everything would be perfect. Careful what you wish for, Verity!

The world turns, life goes on, and southern bell super sleuth Verity Long finds herself still broke and in need of a job. Thankfully, or maybe not, the universe seems to have her on speed dial because she's just received a mysterious phone call from an unknown caller, supposedly one on the ghostly plane, alerting her to a murder at the Sugarland Heritage Society house and has asked for her help. Except there was no murder.... yet, but apparently, there is a haunting. Someone, and by someone I mean quite possibly the resident ghosts, have been repositioning the museum mannequins into lewd poses for the past three nights and the newly elected president wants Verity to investigate. Good thing Verity was paid in advance, and thank heavens the payment was cash, because the newly elected president and Verity's current client, Julia Harper Youngblood, just turned up dead! What? Yup, I said dead and Verity is quite certain it's certainly no accident as everyone else seems to believe including the Sugarland Police Department. Well, everyone but Frankie and her beau. No, not that Beau, lying, cheating Beau Wydell... her new sweetie, Deputy Sheriff Ellis Wydell, Beau's older brother. Nothing like keeping it in the family! Unfortunately, Virginia Wydell, Sugarland's leading citizen and town matriarch as well as the mother of the Wydell brothers, is not pleased and still seeks retribution against Verity at every opportunity. But Verity is a true southern belle with a spine of steel, one who refuses to allow anything to get in her way. She's determined to solve this case, even if it means having to join the Sugarland Heritage Society and hobnobbing with the town's snobby elite citizens. There's no way she can ignore a plea for help, so there's only one thing to do. It's time to put on her big girl panties and face this mystery head on and, of course, enlist the help of her ghost gangster housemate Frankie to help her do a little snooping...um...I mean, investigating. Verity may also need to recruit her always optimistic and very capable beau Ellis since he's proven to be quite helpful in the past and it never hurts to have her handsome hunk of burning love along for the ride. Ghost hunting, it seems, can be quite dangerous as evidenced by Verity's previous misadventures with the otherworldly on the ghostly plane. It's a deadly business, indeed. Pun, most definitely, intended! Will Verity discover the identity of the killer before she becomes the next victim and an official card-carrying member of the afterlife herself? We'll see! So, buckle up, my lovelies; here we go again! Oh my! And I'll never be able to think of 'the love shack' with a straight face ever again! You go, Frankie! lol...

Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! I loved how it was a light paranormal with sweet southern charm. As being a South Carolinian I love some southern charm.😁 I absolutely loved this book. This book was hilarious, sweet and mysterious. I was turning pages late through the night and wanting more. I read this book as a standalone but I will definitely be going back to read the previous books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a hilarious cozy mystery! Hope everyone has a fantastic day y'all!

I love the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries and #5 - Sweet Tea and Spirits - does not disappoint! They just keep getting better and better!
The official release isn't for a couple more days, so I will try to leave the review the book deserves without giving up any spoilers...
Verity receives a mysterious phone call from The Heritage House, and is thrown into an odd, ghostly mystery and murder. Frankie is up to his usual gangster-esque hi-jinks and runs afoul of a very scary mobster (who has a surprise story for Verity.. )
Frankie might even find a girlfriend - who has secrets of her own...
Ellis - who Verity is becoming more and more enamored of - has been working hard on Southern Spirits, and his mother, Virginia Wydell, is trying to interfere between he and Verity in her usual mean and nasty spirited way...

Yet another adorable book by Angie Fox! I love Verity, Frankie, Ellis an there cute little skunk Lucy!! The story starts with a weird phone call, who knew ghosts could use the phone! The one in this story can! Verity goes on another investigation of a murder, in the Sugarland Heritage Society, of a woman named Julia. They say she fell down a flight of stairs an broke her neck, accident or foul play? It's up to verity to speak to the ghosts an find out! I wasn't expecting the killer to be who it was, very exciting read! An it seems Virginia wydell may be warming up to verity after all! (Or not) You'll have to find out an check out this awesome next installment of The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries!!

I absolutely love the entire Southern Ghost Hunter Series! This one kept me engrossed, had the witty humor I love, the snarky southern conversations and cultural dos and don'ts that keep me laughing, and the consistent plot twists that keep me guessing until the end.

You get to see more of Frankie and his life in this book, which is a great addition. The ghostly plane is always changing and it is fun to see things from their point of view.

Hoping to "see' more of Ellis - quite literally in the next book. More steaminess developing as the relationship grows.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

If you've enjoyed the previous books in the Southern Spirits series, you will enjoy the latest addition to the series. It was a fun, playful read, that fit the previous formula a little too well. My only real complaint is that the book ended with the heroine in another life or death situation like the rest of the books. I think it'd be kind of interesting for her not to be threatened for once.

This is only the second Verity Long book I've read, but I loved it. Frankie is one of my favorite characters and I enjoyed the scenes between Verity and Virginia, her current boyfriends mom (and her ex-fiancé' mom lol). This book flowed so smoothly and was impossible to put down. I highly recommend this book!

Another good one in the series! 4.5*

Another ghostly case with my favorite Southern gal and her gangster ghost associate snooping around at the old historical museum trying to solve a murder, a ghost problem, and their separate relationship issues. Let me just get my hot cuppa and cozy into my favorite comfy spot.

Sweet Tea and Spirits is the fifth installment of the Southern Ghost Hunter series. They can be read standalone, but work best in order to follow the relationships and situations that are ongoing with the series.

The first scene had my right back in the world of this series. The humor displayed through Frankie's antics, as even in the afterlife, he's just doing what a gangster will do, and Verity's sweet southern gal persona appalled at her resident ghost and more appalled that her boyfriend Ellis wants her to do a meet the family because they are getting serious.

But then things are off to the races when Verity gets another case from the president of the historical society shortly before the lady is murdered and only Verity knows its murder because she gets a ghostly prompt that tells her.

I enjoy this blend of light-hearted and mystery with some moderate chills and humorous moments. By now, Verity is hitting her stride accepting her role as ghost hunter in the community even though some folks think she's nuts, but also moving on from the fiasco of leaving her cheating ex at the altar and dealing with the aftermath since he's from one of the most influential and prestigious family's in town- and hsst, Verity is not in a deepening relationship with his older brother.

Now, the tone of the book may be light, but the mysteries are actually rather clever. Some elements are easy to figure out, but then there's the twist and the surprise is fun. In this case, I had the murder figured out, but it was the ghostly situation that had the impressive twist. Very clever...

And I did enjoy that ghostly Frankie got a bit of romancing in with a pretty ghost.

All in all, these are fun, light distractions and I look forward to each new installment. Cozy Mystery fans who don't mind some paranormal and romance are probably the best match for this series.

I rec'd this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

OMG Angie Fox just gets better and better. This is book 5 in Angie Fox's Southern Ghost Hunter series, however while you will want to read each of the previous books you do not have to read them to follow SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS. Yes this is a continuing series, and yes there is a continuing story-line with Frankie, the gangster ghost, however each book stands on its own and has an ending. There are no cliff-hangers in these books. These books follow Verity Long, as she deals with ghosts, mysteries, her boyfriend Ellis and Ellis' family. I love the fact these stories evolve much how life itself does. The characters grow and change but still remain true to who they are. I love watching Verity get more comfortable with where she is in life and what that means for her future. I love Ellis...I want more Ellis...he's such a great character. But I think even better is ghost Frankie. He's such a character. Add in Verity's pet skunk, Lucy, and all the surprise "guests" that show up and you are always in for a fun engaging well-written time. I eagerly devour these books every-time I get them. They are written in first person but somehow that only adds to the appeal of these books. You never feel lost. Although I will say this one left me on the edge of my seat a couple of times. I was worried about Verity and Frankie. Fans of Angie Fox are in for a treat with SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS. If you are new Angie Fox but love great well written mysteries with outstanding characters and a setting you'll adore then you need to add SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS to your to buy list NOW. You won't be disappointed. Now to wait for the next book.......ugh that's the hard part, the waiting.

SWEET TEA & SPIRITS is another fun installment of the cozy mystery series, Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. I liked having a nice quick, light read as a break from some of the pretty heavy emotionally books I've been reading recently. In this story we get Verity trying to deal more directly with the Sugarland society ladies while trying to solve the puzzle of strange happenings in their historical society building involving mannequins and murder There were also a lot of surprising twists and developments in this fast paced plot.

I really enjoyed seeing Verity get comfortable with her ghost seeing/hunting abilities and with Sugarland and its small town qualities which includes the super fast gossip mill. I felt bad for Verity having to deal with so much cattiness from these ladies who were pretty petty especially to someone trying to help figure out why there are strange hauntings and murders happening in the historical society. Luckily, as usual, Verity rises above them and solves the case, with her wonderfully hilarious ghost gangster sidekick and her awesome boyfriend, Ellis. Verity's gangster ghost, Frankie has a pretty funny and even sweet storyline in this book.

With SWEET TEA & SPIRITS, Angie Fox has written another funny and well written story with quirky characters you'll love to root for and even ones you'll love to hate.

Verity Long, as southern as sweet tea and moon pies has an unusual ability. She sees and speaks with the dead. Verity is asked to investigate the strange events taking place at the Sugarland Society's head quarters. Talking to the spirits and investigating the history she uncovers lead Verity to even more questions and a fresh body. Can she find out the truth before a new Ghost appears at the headquarters? Mainly hers!

As always Angie Fox infuses her novels with humor to keep them light and fun to read. This latest fast paced Southern Ghost Hunter installment is no exception. From the first page to the last you will not want to put the book down. My rating is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Sweet Tea and Spirits is the fifth book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Series and it continues the story of Verity Long and her fellow residents of Sugarland. Verity is an endearing character and she always strives for what's right. When it comes to hard knocks, she’s had them all, but she continues to fight, both for herself and others in need. This time around a mystery caller sets her on the road to investigate the Sugarland Historical Society, a home with surprises that have been hidden from the town folk for generations. With the assistance of boyfriend/deputy sheriff Ellis, and her not always so friendly spirit sidekick, Frankie the German, Verity solves the murder mystery and provides some much needed closure to those still living in the home long past their living years.

I found this book to be as charming and enjoyable as the previous installments in the series. My favorite is still the original, Southern Spirits, but this book is a winner in its own right. Often my favorite aspect of books are the fun animal characters and Lucy, the skunk, is still right up there with the best of them. This was a quick read and I literally had a hard time putting it down. A true must read for fans of the genre and anyone wanting a thoroughly entertaining experience. This series is one of my all time favorites and I’m greatly looking forward see what Angie Fox has in store for us next.
