The old-fashioned country village of Morelville Holds a secret. Faye Crane has the perfect life as a homemaker, farmer's wife and grandmother...or she did until her daughter-in-law Dana went and stirred up a mysterious murder, never resolved and long buried in the Lafferty family lore - before Faye ever became a Crane. Now she's been reminded of some startling questions about her families past that she's not sure she wants to know the answers to. Dana knows to tread lightly around Faye. Their relationship is far from perfect but she just can't help herself; she's certainly intrigued by the unsolved case. The down to earth, gentle residents of the village are more than happy to fill her in on all of the old gossip too. She even gets an education in oil drilling and backroom poker along her way to trying to clear the Lafferty family name and bring some closure to her mother-in-law. The question is, can she figure it all out and, if she does, will the Lafferty's and the Crane's be better off or far worse?

    A terrific read!
One of the best reasons to keep reading this current mystery is because of the exceptional writing of Anne Hagan. Inside there are wonderful, talented and entertaining characters who always brings their 'A' game to each series which has a fascinating plot twist, good dialogue and even has a very nice supporting cast that's familiar with the area folks..the readers will definitely not be disappointed with all that both leads has dealt with through out this series people, with crisis with love and with tragedy and still going strong with the support of family -- cliffhanger alert. Recommended ongoing series!

This is the 9th book in the Morelville mystery series and still has the lovely family feel and inspired storytelling of all the others. It’s great to be back with Dana and Mel and with a new mystery that deals with a murder in Mel’s family. The murder was never solved and when Dana is looking for something to keep her busy she decides looking into this cold case would bring closure to mother-in-law Faye. I loved the flashbacks to the 1970s and finding out more about Faye’s past. The mystery had me intrigued and I am so glad that there were hints of more to come in the series. The ensemble of characters in all of the Morelville books put them a notch above other mystery novels as they are all important to solving the cases. Mel and Dana’s relationship was especially hot in ‘The Turkey Tussle’, in a well-written bedroom scene that hit all the right notes. This series just gets better and better.

    Another great installment!

A cold case leads to some interesting encounters. A mystery with close family ties. It will manage to surprise you more than once and it kept me on the edge all the way. Two awesome, down to earth leading ladies, a remarkable loving family, small town gossips and a family secret. Yeah, another great installment.

    More intrigue in Morelville!

I love this series and have been waiting (im)patiently for the next installment. It did not disappoint! The murder was a bit closer to home for Mel this time but the story was still full of the usual suspects, erm... characters that we've come to expect from the series. Reading these stories is like catching up with friends. So much so that I miss them when I'm done. Let's hope the author won't keep us waiting too long for the next visit!

The book begins with Dana at a bit of a loose end, so she decides to investigate a 40-year-old murder. This was OK but I prefer my mysteries to have a little more ‘immediate peril’.
I still enjoyed the ‘family’ story and the introduction of Hannah’s new friend Morgan.
However, I did find the ending slightly annoying, as you have to read the next book to find out the ending to this story.

Just before it is time to carve the turkey, someone decides to carve up a guest.
The people of Morelville still gossip about the Thanksgiving dinner that wasn’t at the Lafferty family home when Faye Lafferty Crane was only 16 years old. Just before dinner was served, a man was found stabbed to death in the bath closet. There were plenty of suspects. No arrests.

Now Dana has heard the story and her writer’s instincts are humming that there is more to the story. Faye gives her support hoping to finally find answers to put her family at ease. Unfortunately, Dana only finds more questions.

That is until someone wants Dana to stop asking questions. Then that is where the suspects start to narrow down. Then another body appears.

This was a great whodunit with Dana leading the way. The Turkey Tussle (Jug Run Press, B06XJ7PM8N, 2017) by Anne Hagan is the first in “The Morelville Mysteries” series that I can see being a stand alone read. This is a cold case so you do not know need to know the history of anyone in the present.

I think Hannah makes a great sidekick for Dana. I did not see that coming as a character growth spurt for her, but what an awesome idea. I loved the dynamic between the two and the opportunity for Dana to now go in different directions.

Hagan keeps “The Morelville Mysteries” from getting stale. For those of us familiar with the series, the mystery comes out of nowhere. It is fresh and brings out a different facet to Faye’s relationship with Mel. Hagan brings scandal, oil, and of course murder to the small town. Not only do the ladies like to gossip about it, but it is fun to read about too.

Just in time for this Turkey holiday, sit back with Hagan’s Turkey Tussle and keep an eye on the carving knives. ✶✶✶✶

    Murder at thanksgiving

This is a cold case reopened by Dana once she learns of a murder in the family home of her mother in law Faye 40 tears ago. This opens old wounds.
A good book but has many spelling and grammar errors.
