Enjoy another “exhilarating roller-coaster ride of unusual cases” (Publishers Weekly) in this second book of the Ravi PI series, featuring detective Ravi Chandra Singh and his team at the gleefully amoral, unfailingly dangerous secret agency Golden Sentinels.

When Ravi’s colleagues at Golden Sentinels discover that he sees gods in moments of heightened anxiety and stress, they are surprisingly fine with it. They even encourage him to incorporate his visions into his work, especially now that the cases have become more intense, with many hidden risks at play. But their latest case—a search for a dead Russian oligarch’s last will and testament—leads to more than anyone expected: a missing heir, murderous relatives, and geopolitical implications. So, when Ravi’s boss sends him to Los Angeles to wait out the heat, it’s almost a relief…until Ravi’s past catches up to him.

In this thrilling and complex sequel to the “exciting and dynamic” (Deepak Chopra) Her Nightly Embrace, nothing is what it seems, as Ravi stumbles upon a dangerous scheme that involves the CIA, MI5, and a wanted man with a $20 million price on his head.

Her Beautiful Monster (Ravi PI #2) Reviews

A good fun instalment in this frankly bonkers series about a PI stalked by Hindu gods who tweet about him. This one is mostly set in LA, with gun running and much chaos and violence, and the gods taking a more hands-on role than they did in book 1. Entertaining, looking forward to #3. I hope the promised TV series is going to happen.

Action doesn’t stop in Her Beautiful Monster by Adi Tantimedh. The second book in the Ravi PI series, is a great combination of twists to lead you through the paces of Adi’s adept writing. This book is not a standalone and I would advise you begin with Her Nightly Embrace to comprehend the finer details of Ravi Chandra Singh.

As the main character, Ravi, has a higher power/calling… he can see the Hindu Gods and they can see him. His mis-fit, quirky co workers within the Golden Sentinels Agency are wanting him to use those skills for the greater good. Within the many cases, him and his colleagues work on, anything can happen, especially when your sent to Las Angeles and the past catches up to him.

This is a unique novel that was fast and enlightening. Adi’s writing had all great elements to make it a fun contemporary/fantasy book. There is ‘talk’ that this series could be made into a TV show and after reading, I can see why. The narrating has that special spin to it, where as you ingrain yourself between the pages, you can see the story as a show role-playing in your mind. Adi’s details to characters, setting and word usage was on par.

I enjoyed Ravi’s quirky co workers. They were fun and made parts of the story comical. There is a great combination of twists and turns to lead you on a rollercoaster of mystery, as well as unpredictable outcomes at every corner.

I am glad to see that the disappearance of five Hong Kong booksellers ("disappeared to mainland China") made its way into this mystery:

This was a fun read. I'm not sure if I was less enthusiastic about it because I read it late at night or if it's the change in locale that made me like this less than the first book. I still appreciate Ravi's moral quandaries as he is faced with possibilities that his actions have caused injustice and oppression and in contrast to many of the amoral characters surrounding him.

Still, I'm looking forward to book 3 (and should remember not to start reading it after 11 pm).

Thank you Netgalley and Atria Books for this ARC.

Adi Tantimedh has delivered another hoot of a read! This was a fun and fast read for me.

A private "eye" that sees "gods", his colleagues unquestioning acceptance of their presence, the culture shock of a Londoner in LA.... bad guys, good guys, nutty parents, a nice girlfriend, a not-so-nice sort of ex-girlfriend... There wasn't much missing. Hope he keeps this series going!

Thanks Atria Books and netgalley for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my favorite contemporary/fantasy series. I'm always on the lookout for the t.v. series. From London to LA to Hong Kong- the action does not stop. Revi has to come to terms with what the Gods are trying to tell him, and maybe just give in a little?

I chose this somewhat randomly at the library, and I am glad I did. Ravi is such an original hero, Julia, Olivia, Ken and Clive, and the rest of the group amazingly well rounded in their own right. I thought the Leverage crossed with Bollywood by way of London crossed with a car crash was super fun to read as well.

Droll, angsty humor as private investigator Ravi deals with the moral and karmic implications of his cases, overlooked in amusement by the Hindu Gods in a fast-moving James Bond-like adventure. How would you deal with either being a chaos-pawn of the Gods, or mentally ill?

Second in this series did not disappoint! The cases were interesting and getting to know Ravi and his family a bit better fit right in the plot. Looking forward to #3!

    Hoarder challenge-#17 male author

good story, characters, decent sequel to the first one in the series.
some humor, though a bit on the "dark humor side".

i will say that i didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one. i think it maybe b/c i did the previous book on audio.
but i liked characters so i liked this one too.
it wasn't just one mystery this time. there were several storylines going.
the one w/Ravi's parents was funny.

there wasn't as much w/the gods & goddesses this time. while i found that distracting in the first, i actually missed it in this one.

i look forward to the next book in the series and to reading Ravi's further adventures. He certainly doesn't lead a dull life.

THIS REVIEW WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED IN RT MAGAZINE

    RATING: ★★★☆☆

A private investigator and his team of screw-ups … What could go wrong? Although entertaining, the action seems to overpower the delicious eeriness that remains dormant throughout the text. The elegantly written passages build and swell, but before they have a chance to really crescendo, we switch back to where we first came from and are left ravenous for resolution. This second installment in the Ravi PI series will keep you waiting for more.

Ravi Chandra Singh injects spirituality into modern day technology. In times of severe stress (like now), Ravi sees gods. His team is accepting of this and they eventually suggest that Ravi use this "power" to help with their cases. But can these gods really help Ravi and his team decipher a slew of facts and the mystery behind a missing heir? The labyrinth begins to collapse on itself when the past decides to visit at the most inconvenient time. We follow Ravi as he navigates through changes, discovers obstacles and figures out his next move … except his next move is never what it seems. (ATRIA/LEOPOLDO, Dec., 320 pp., $25.05)
