Justice League of America: Rebirth #1 Reviews

A little boring, but this series looks like it has promise. Certainly better than the Justice League Rebirth.

I had huge expectations from this series and well Rebirth One shots aren't necessarily something that can be used to judge a comic , but it was very underwhelming .

Ray , The new Atom , Lobo , Vixen , Killer Frost , and Black Canary form the new JLA .. oh and i forgot Batman as well ... You know for a guy who says, He works alone , Batman sure seems to be doing this team thing a lot , As of rebirth Batman has a team of his own in Detective comics , is a member of Justice League and JLA . Black Canary also is a member of JLA and birds of Prey.

That aside the team recruitment process was pretty lame , every one just came along and no body was at all bothered or protested .There was nothing of a story arc , just all people coming together and well technically nothing really happened .

The artwork was average and nothing eye catching , in fact in most panel it looked really dull with the facial features of Killer Frost and Batman really being inconsistently drawn and not looking very inspiring .

So to re state , i was in huge anticipation for this and when it arrived it let me down in a big way

Not good enough to tempt me to pick up the series. There are better books out there.

I collect the Justice League series and was really not looking to get into this title. But the recent Justice League/Suicide Squad cross-over (which leads into this series) convinced me to give it a shot. Batman is looking to put together a new Justice League with "Gods" like Superman or Wonder Woman and such. Still, how Lobo fits into this is hard to figure. Looks like an update on "Batman and the Outsiders" from years ago. I liked the art and the story and I will stick around for a story arc or two and see where this goes.

Honestly? This was pretty good and It works! I'm definitely hyped for the new Justice League of America comic run.

Tensions rise as Batman gets together the new JL of A for the first time.

A bold spinoff of Justice League versus Suicide Squad, this comic has several interesting elements and lots of potential. A zero issue of types, I found myself enjoying this story more than I have recent Steve Orlando efforts at Marvel, namely his Marauders series, which I found to be mostly unreadable. I'd reread it based on these issues, but maybe he just handles DC characters better? This series is good. Marauders is not. lol Again, I'd reconsider upon a repeat viewing, but those Marauders stories are just not entertaining. Recommended for readers who liked Justice League versus Suicide Squad.

A few new characters in this one keep things fresh. Each book breaks down the new JLA's member's background. The Atom, The Ray, Killer Frost, Vixen even Canary shows up. Out of all of them, I think The Ray was my favorite. Well paced, heart-wrenching and the art is to die for. Killer Frost's backstory is pretty compelling as well. This book is pretty much right off the tail of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad but I don't think it's required reading. If you're a fan of any of these characters, pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

There are a few things that bug me about this, but one stands out more than all the rest...

This has the same logical problem that the Suicide Squad film had...purpose of team versus the roster. In the movie, they put a team of mostly humans together in case Superman ever went rogue. Pointless, that.

In this book, Batman is putting together a group of humans except for of course Lobo who is effectively the opposite of the feel Batman's going for in this team. That bothers me, a lot.

Maybe 2.5. I used to love Batman as a character. Now he just feels like a whiny goth hipster or something. I don't know. And he is such a jerk. Like, oohh no Gods allowed only humans but I am God here and you must listen to me. Bah.
The side characters however, intriguing. Some I'm not very familiar with. The art was good of course. DC's main line almost always is. It's just plot and character that usually lack. I may look for this one at the library just to learn more about the team.

In the words of one of the most underutilized characters until recently, "This book is fraggin ya bastiches!" Wow. This was an amazing read, coupled with the Scope of where this story is heading. It's so enjoyable to see DC expand their character base and begin recognizing other iconic individuals. Loved this book.

Juntando al equipo, por lo que no se hay mucho mas que eso, pero me gusta el concepto y la idea que tiene Batman en la cabeza, de un equipo de heroes, no de dioses. Y bueno.... Lobo no hay que decir mas.

Weird. I'll just say weird. Lobo in JLA ? Recipe for catastrophe. Very likely. We'll wait and see, but ... WHAT? The hell of a rebirth.

  • Chris Haley

Pretty good for a setting the table issue where nothing really happens.

    Who's in?

Batman builds the new JSA. Not of gods, but of mortals. London's head exploded in the Justice League vs Suicide Squad. Is he mortal?

  • Patrick

I admit the artwork was my favorite part of this. The story is okay, and I like the line-up for the team. I like seeing Lobo and Killer frost. Especially old lobo. And there was a Roxy Rocket cameo. Worth a try if your looking for something different to read.

I received an advanced copy of this from NetGalley.com and the publisher

Not a bad start to what I'm hoping is gonna be great.
