The Years Best Australian Fantasy and Horror 2015 Reviews

Although a few stories in previous volumes may be equally as brilliant as the best here, I found this volume the most consistent of the lot - and therefore the best. Thought the vast majority here world class. Most stories are real rippers: some entertain, some get you thinking, and most do both.

Think I've read all the volumes available. Hoping there's more. Heard there could be a 2016 out there, but can't find it. Please let me know if you know anything about it.

I edited it... of course I love it :)

  • Deborah Sheldon

Weighing in at a mighty 150,000 words, this anthology is an eclectic mix of horror and dark fantasy, spanning the spectrum of both their subgenres. (Please note: I'm leaving my story out of this review.) Hard to pick favourites, but "Bluebeard's daughter" by Angela Slatter and "The company of women" by Garth Nix stood out for me. Highly recommended for short story aficionados.

  • Tiffany Fox

Fantastic collection of Australian fantasy and horror, containing some really diverse and inventive takes on the genre. While the horror side contains some suitably creepy monster stories, the psychological horrors will stay with me the longest.

  • Matthew Morrison

Love this Year's Best Australian Fantasy and Horror series, and the 2015 anthology is no exception. Some wonderfully imaginative and diverse short stories from the best Aussie authors in their genres, herein.

    Standouts for me were:
    Kaaron Warren's 'Mine Intercom',
    Jo Anderton's '2B',
    Jay Kristoff's 'Sleepless',
Alan Baxter's 'The Chart of the Vagrant Mariner',
    Jason Nahrung's 'Night Blooming',
Rivqa Rafael's 'Beyond the Factory Wall'...

I'll stop there, before I list the entire table of contents. If you like short fiction fantasy and/or horror, there's bound to be something in this volume that strikes a chord.

Disclosure: I have a story in this anthology.
