She's from a lakeside suburb, padded by two parents, an overindulgent godmother, and all the amenities of affluence they can provide her. But that's not enough. Kennedi wants to experience the full benefits of her femininity at the tender age of twenty-one, a task she takes on at college, and one she’s more than determined to fulfill.

He's an aspiring entertainer from the dark side of the inner city. Survival for Isaak is very much an option he plans to conquer. He has to make it out of his impossible circumstances, and sacrifice is definitely the name of the game, even if it means running the risk of sacrificing one of the most delicate and positively influential bonds he’s ever made.

A social experiment has never been so revealing and frightening for either one of these unassuming individuals. How could two people from the starkest contrast of rearing build an impenetrable bond in just three months? How long will it take for them to dig through their differences to understand those forces that connect them? At what cost will they find harmony to coexist?

Publisher’s This is the first installment of a three book series. It contains expletive language, sexual content, and ends on a cliffhanger. If you do not wish to have these elements in your reads, this is not the venture for you.

Ok so I’m kinda torn on these two and need to finish the series before I can make a true assessment. I LOVE Kennedi! She’s so sweet, caring, nurturing and is so lovable. You can tell by the way she selflessly gives herself to others that she has a pure heart. LOVE her!! She’s in college, career focused on the fast track to becoming a lawyer. She’s minding the business that pays her until Isaak walks his triflin self into her class and pulls her into a web of bs.

I don’t like him I don’t like him I don’t like him!!!! Kennedi is too good for Isaak and I KNOW he’s going to drag her through the mud of emotions and turmoil before he gets his shït together! He has hella baby mamas and hella baggage. This man left Kennedi in the dust to peruse his career and took 2 years to even reach out to her only to give her hell because she’s been picking up the slack with his kids being a single parent to children she didn’t even birth. The baby mamas are trash and he’s trash for leaving his kids with trash baby mamas to raise them. Ooooooo I’m so angry!!! THEN!!!!! You invite her to LA and got hella women treating her like shït! What do y’all see in this nîgga because I must be Stevie Wonder. Isaak has got some SERIOUS changes to make before I remotely warm up to him. He’s definitely my least favorite character of Love’s. The 4 stars are for Kennedi and Kennedi only! On to book 2…

What I've learned about Love Belvin by reading her books is that she does an excellent job on taking her readers through an adventure that explores every part of a story in the most organic way. You start off wanting to know everything and anything about the characters and you walk away feeling resolved (or at least somewhat) with everything that transpired throughout the book or series.
The Left of Love is no different.

Exposition. We are introduced to Isaak and Kennedi! I had no idea what to think of this duo as I did not read the blurb, so my mind was all over the place when these two souls collided on the campus of William Patterson University. But boy would I learn.... and I was taught in the form of the best version possible of a 'slow burn'

Kennedi shows up and shows out as this naïve, good girl who is ready to put on her "woman of the world" cloak, or so she thinks! Although she was a tad bit naïve, her naïveté came across as her being sheltered.... which is exactly who she needed to be so that she 'fit' into Isaak's opposite world.

Isaak was the kid in the hood who was untouchable because people and forces bigger than him, made him so. But.. you don't get to be that person without stipulations and expectations! This is how Isaak ended up as a college student on the campus of Willy P.

Rising Action. This is all about experiencing when the main characters face conflict.... and this story was anything but short on conflict! Isaak and Kennedi had so many forces working against them, but the ones that were in their favor were much, much stronger. We see them deal with school, home life, parents, relationships, family.... and none of those things are as simple as they seem.

Climax. And who doesn't love a climax....... Sadly, this is where we leave Isaak and my dear Ken-Ken!!! Right in the middle of their climax. Right when it looks like they are about to figure things out. Right when all of those conflicts seem so inconsequential. We're left in the middle of a climax with these two.

Surprisingly, being left right in the middle of it all doesn't feel as bad as I thought it would. As a reader, I am happy to have this time (hopefully it won't be too long) to settle on everything that is Isaak and Kennedi. For them to be "young adults," they are way more complex than I expected.

Now.... I'll just wait patiently for my falling action and resolution!

I’m so loving Kenndi & Isaak. I love her relationship with his kids 🥰🥰

WOW...This Is such an engaging story...I absolutely adore Kennedi's quirky/nerdy personality. I love that Isaak is book smart and also has his finger on the pulse of the streets in Patterson, NJ. Issak is the man! Right now, the two of the are friends and have easily become best friends....and now they realize that they have feelings for one another, but haven't expressed that to one another yet....Issak has three (3) children from 2 different women...the youngest 2 children are a mess...that baby girl is absolutely hilarious. Now that Issak's rap career is on the rise, he has 2 women that he's messing around with and 1 that works for him as his assistant (I'm still trying to figure her out) that he's going to have to get rid of in order for things to work out with Kennedi. There's a few other things going on in this story that I know will be addressed at some point. I'm eagerly waiting for book 2 (I might just read it) to be released. Wesleigh & Myles did a awesome job with the narration.

Isaak and Kennedi got to know one another through a group project in their first semester of college, Ken was judgmental, which bothered me because not everyone is raised in the same manner. But I'm not a fan of Isaak since I think his decisions were self-centered. How two years have passed and neither have spoken to one another baffles me. Chile Kennedi better than me taking care of his kids just for him to snap on her … he needed to be snapping on the mom if you can even call them mothers, don't even get me started on them. I'm not sure why Isaak believed his children would be taken care of given that he is aware of the pattern and history of the mother of his children. Isaak and Ken I don't know, they both have work to do, and as the series goes on, I hope they can work things out since I'm not sure how this "relationship" will turn out.

One time for the relationship development. Two times for the intimacy. Three times for the pacing. Four times for this good ass book!

Hooked from the prologue. I had no idea what was going on the first 2 pages of this book but was very quickly and effectively invested and all in.

This is the first book I've read that features such an intense and intimate relationship. Giving me ALL the feels, without the characters being intimate with one another.

I found myself rooting for Isaak and Kennedi but not just a potential partners or a couple, as friends! This book was so good and in such contrast to the Sadik series. Love out here flexing! Showing that range and versatility.

Not going to spoil anything, but I will say Isaak effectively pissed me TF off! And got cursed out in my notes because of it. That's how much these characters affected me while reading. That I legit snapped on him like he was a real goddamned person.

Alright keeping this short so I can get to the Low of Love. Based on the name of the book... I got a feeling Kenny and Issy are going to make me sad...

  • Bonn

Why this nîggâ calling his kids seeds🤣it's weird as all get out. He funny AF but that's weird bro.
Kenny is awfully horny for somebody who don't want a baby daddy🤣💀sis really? Your pussy the saharah huh🏜️.

So far I'm enjoying the story, they're my second faves so far because the work well together. Now listen he's not my second fave Love B. Bae that's all Azmir🥹 but as a couple. YES. They actually work well together.

Kenny's relationship with the kiiids!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Now Issy you were a dick for just going cold turkey on her so I still have a bone to pick with you. Also the hypocrisy on her not getting dick!?? Now Issy you know damn well😮.
"So you eat ass huh😏" that was what I said when I read their smut scene🫣🫣

    On to book 2 heathens.

Edit: I just reread the prologue!!!!!! It almost bumped Issy to Love B. Bookbae number 2!!! "Fuck you mean is she mine" sonnnnnnnn!!!! 🙊🙊🙉

    Cloudy....friends

Omg this book had my feelings all over the place. So many complex yet beautiful elements. I've read about Kenny and Young Lord in other stories and now I have more context to them. Kennedi was an innocent, caring, intelligent young woman. She was an athlete that never met a competition she wasn't down to try. She lived a privileged life with both of her parents. Issak aka Young Lord was a talented, intelligent, and somewhat troubled young man. They crossed paths at college and built a friendship of sorts. Everything about them screamed love....definitely more than friends, but they seemed unwilling to acknowledge it. Issak was clueless to the pain Kenny went through behind him and she didn't understand his weird....fake life he was leading. So many layers, I'm running to the next book.

Let me tell you something, Author Love Belvin is the truth and if you are looking for stories that will stick to your bones like a damn great meal, then she is the one for you. Periodt!!!!!

Isaak and Kennedi met in their first semester of college and wherein the same class, a group assignment introduced them to one another, a dangerous situation drew them closer together. Kennedi is from a nice suburb, an only child to her parents and overindulged by her godmother, she has everything that she could ever want but still feels as if something is definitely missing from her life. Kennedi is still a virgin and her crazy inclinations on losing it cause her to almost lose her life. Isaak is unexpecting and intriguing and they become best friends.

Isaak is from a rough part of New Jersey, so he is all too familiar with those streets, its how he has survived this long but there comes a price. He is a father to three young children, he is an aspiring rapper and music producer, he has been responsible for a block and a series of businesses since his friend Supreme Being has been locked up, his mother is a dope addict and he is just looking for some peace where he can get it. Kennedi has unexpectedly become his peace.

Isaak received the record deal with the label he wanted to sign with and leaves NJ but not before seeing Kennedi one last time, they share a kiss that belies what neither of them was able to speak out to one another. Now two and a half years have passed before they see each other again, Isaak is big now (cut off his locs, gained muscle weight), Kennedi has left William Patterson and transferred to NYU and doing well but misses the camaraderie that she had with her three friends the first semester of WP.

Kennedi finds herself as a stand-in for Isaak's children although they haven't spoken and all of it comes to a head when he calls her one night and comes to NJ. Everything that they once knew about each other has changed and now these former best friends are looking at each other out of the corner of their eyes and noticing how their hearts are beating differently, feelings are changing and now they stand at an impasse trying to figure out what does any of this actually mean for them now.

The supporting characters play a huge role in this first story, Kennedi's parents, her godmother, her two friends from William Patterson University, Isaak's baby mommas, Supreme Being (who has a friend in prison that keeps having visions about Isaak), Touchie, Smiff, and Guap. We also see mentioned "Rajee" from the 2 Book story "Rhythm of Love" and Jackson "Q" Hunter from his story "Love's Inconvenient Truth" who is the head of LIT, the label that Isaak is signed to.

Now I am getting ready to start reading Book 2 "The Low of Love (Wayward Love Book 2)"

Well Until My Next Review...Ciao Bellas!

  • Diane Rembert

Kennedi and Isaak are the toxic love story that I didn't know I needed. Based on the campus of William Patterson University (that's Willy P for those of us in NJ), two classmates start out as friends, and slowly turn into more. Isaak and his trifling baby mamas are the total opposite of Kennedi's somewhat bourgeois background. While he was off pursuing a music career, she was left playing babysitter to his three children. I couldn't believe the lengths that Kennedi went to, for the sake of her friendship. Now, I must admit that Isaak stepped up to the plate, once he got wind of what was going on, but I couldn't understand how it took him so long to find out.

This is the first book of a trilogy, and if you know anything about @lovebelvin, then you know that this is the buildup for something explosive. Her characters will draw you in and leave you wanting more. My favorite would have to be Kennedi, and my least favorite was the thirsty assistant Tracee. You'll have to read the book to find out why.

I had to take some time after I completed this story to allow it to sink in before I started on this review. While Love Belvin has always created memorable characters, mind blowing alpha males that I could not read enough about, this book introduced me to new fella- Isaak. Isaak was a relatable "homeboy" type of dude & his struggle was felt. The college setting opened up a great beginning and the storyline flowed easily from there. . I admired Isaak & Kennedi's friendship for where one lacked knowledge, the other made up for it. I also liked the family aspect & issues that were introduced as well as the acceptance from both sides of the family. I thought Kennedi's charming but firm attitude kept the story balanced whether she was up against East or West coast females. I loved her caring relationship with the kids. I thought this first part was definitely a winner. I highly suggest all readers take the time out & become familiar with this remarkable story...Kudos Love Belvin!

4.5 Stars! Talk about a slow burn! I didn’t know what to expect for this first book but it being heavily from Kennedi’s perspective was not it. Also why did he leave her and no one else but her. I didn’t like that. I did love the connection she kept to Isaak without him even knowing it. She really is an angel and idk if Isaak deserve her 😩. I’m going to sit back and read book 2 because I want to see where the “friendship” goes from here. Although Kennedi was extremely immature I think she really grew up in those 3yrs he was away. Life made it that way for her. Isaak is communicating more just not with Kennedi who needs to hear it from him. This is building to be a beautiful romance and I’m excited to read the next book.

    Best Friends…? ok!

Kenny Kenny Kenny.. Im still trying to figure her out. I dont understand the not mentioning she was helping to watch his kids. And Isaak… I can see these two about to frustrate me. Lol

I love everything about Isaak and Kennedi! An around the way guy, who was so much more than his upbringing and a sheltered princess, who was also more than her upbringing. They both faced being held back by their environments but they attempt to rise against all odds. I can’t wait for the next book.

Whew Love pulled me all the way in. I can’t wait to jump into book 2.

Love has done it again. Love her books and no one can put a spin on a book the way she does. This story will really touch your heart and soul. Now on to Book 2

  • Lissa Marie

Dare I say it? One of the Queens of Contemporary Romance ventured over to the dark side and gave us a borderline Urban Lit novel? I Dare!

Now, if you’re familiar with the authors work and have read the first series she published you saw glimpses of what could have been some urban, but the story stayed on key and flowed as a love story. That’s not what happened here. I had to ask several times throughout the book, especially after the prologue, “Hold on, who the hell wrote this?” I honestly wasn’t sure one of my favorite authors had it in her to take it there, but once again with this installment of the Wayward Love series she is pushing her bounds and talents to the limit, and indeed making us love her, though I already did.

As for the characters, Kennedi, oh Kennedy, you poor naïve thing. Kennedi is the type of person that you have to adore because they hold such a innocence that I feel people lose to early on in life these days. Even when Kennedi is dead wrong you want to shake her and then hug her because you know she truly does not know any better. Part of me wants to blame her dad, because though he had every right to shelter her and provide a better life than his, he didn’t equip her on how to deal with real life situations which become a direct threat to her in the book. Kennedi in regards to Isaak, has to realize that her spoiled antics will not phase him, it can not phase him, because unlike her parents, god mother and the rest of the world she belongs to Isaak has real life responsibilities. This is a man that was an adult way before his time and while close in age he is leap and bounds ahead of her in ways she sees but has not reality of. Isaak is as wrong as two left feet with how he handled things with Kennedi though, and he knows that and he’s remorseful and I am eager to see what that remorse forces him to act on and not act on in installment two. I am glad the author is introducing her audience to a character like Isaak, these are the stories of the untold, the ones with dreams that we never get to see actualize, but are still so important. It shows us why we need not judge each other because some times people shouldn’t be defined by their circumstantial situations. Sometimes a lifestyle and choice truly are by default and made at a time of immaturity that we just don’t know any better. Just from Isaak sharing his story with Kenny we see his growth from his teenage to young adult years tenfold. Its refreshing.

I could go on and on about how much I truly enjoyed this book, but until you read it, and truly dive into it for yourself, you won’t understand.

If you’ve read previous works by the author imagine the chemistry of Azmir and Rayna, the friendship of Zoey and Stent and the passion of Elle and Jax, it just explodes in your mind.

    Well done LB, well done!

When we realize we are all the same people...

That phrase from this novel is one of the greatest lessons that young Kennedi has to learn during this journey.
This novel starts out with a bang. I found myself wondering how the beginning tied in with the rest of this story. It was different, but just as great, from anything that I have read by Love. This novel displayed Love's growth and range as an author.
Kennedi and Isaak were raised in two very different environments. Kennedi is from the suburbs raised by a two parent home and a godmother that tries to give her all that her heart desires. Isaak is a hood dude trying to make it out of the dark side of the inner city. They meet in their college Sociology class where a group assignment forces them, along with two other students to work together.
The first installment of this series gives us great character development of Kennedi and Isaak: them as individuals, how they were raised, and what they are looking for out of life. Initially I was shocked by Isaak's family; he is definitely different from Love's previous male lead character. His situation endeared him more to me as the story progressed. We were also introduced to intriguing supporting characters.
Love warned us that this story would end in a cliffhanger, but it did not feel like that to me. It however left me desperately wanting more. I'm looking forward to the second installment where hopefully Isaak will bring Kennedi from second base all the way home!

So, I'm in need of part two

I fell behind on my writings to finish this amazing story. It sang to my heart in parts I'd deemed unreachable. In more ways than I'd like to admit, I'm thankful for a story fitting of two people from different sides of the tracks, colliding in a beautiful blissful manner. To Issak & Kenny. The Left of Love.

    Yoooo, like deadass...

    This book is pure perfection!

I have heard so many people say that Issak and Kennedi is their favorite LB couple, and after reading Ragee and Wynter's story, I was highly doubting that they would be my favorite. After finishing book one, I think that they just might have taken their spot!

Issak and Kennedi couldn't be anymore different from one another, but are so fucking perfect and should be together.

It is very common for me to get extremely (emphases on the extreme) frustrated with the couples that LB writes, but while I was frustrated with them sometimes, it didn't come anywhere close to the frustration I had with Ezra and Lex, Sadik and Bilan, and Ragee and Wynter. I think it's because their "relationship" was really a friendship and innocent for the most part.

They were both so cute, and I am so attached and invested in the both of them, and I want them together so bad, they need to stop playin! The way this book ended had me fallin' the fuck out cause how is homie doing the most (in the most amazing way possible lmao) then just.... ugh, I didn't appreciate how it ended.

All I know is in book two they better not be playin' these damn games cause I ain't got the time nor patience for it. I swear I don't.

Amazing work from Love Belvin as usual. My hat's off to her for this one.

  • Shan

Quick read. Great character development. I loved the storyline. I felt this story needed a thorough edit to be a solid read. The errors took away from the story in my opinion. I have to be honest and say I did skim through the last 2-3 chapters because of the errors. Maybe it’s just me but once a story has editing issues I lose focus on the actual story.

    Really Good

Thoroughly enjoyable, but exhausting, in a good way. The pace seems too slow, but then that makes one appreciate the culmination that much more, On to book two!!

Buy it, read it and enjoy!!👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥
