Jax O'Connell is a glass bead artist. When she isn't working with glass to make her one of a kind beads and jewelry, she slips in a bit of amateur sleuthing. Be Still My Beading Heart is a Valentine's Day short mystery and part of the Glass Bead Mystery Series.

I enjoyed this story. The action centers around someone stealing Jax's VW Bug. I've loved the old style Bugs since my family had a lemon yellow one back in the 70's. I wish I had one! I love my PT Cruiser.....but the little rounded putt-putt classic VW Bugs are still my favorite cars! Valentine's Day for Jax turns out to be a mix of juggling two love interests and looking for her car. Cute story!

I like the background theme of a glass artist who creates beads and jewelry for sale to shops and galleries. There was a nice mix of humor and sleuthing. Well-written. Fun to read. I will definitely be reading more by this author! I love reading short stories that introduce a cozy series or author that is new-to-me. After reading this story, I'm definitely going to read the Glass Bead Mystery series. I like to read cozies in-between thrillers, horror novels or other hard-hitting adult fiction. Makes for a nice relaxing reading experience....a happy palate cleanser before jumping into rougher reads again. This series has fun characters and humor....perfect cozy series for me!

The Glass Bead Mystery series has 4 books so far. The author's website states that she will be announcing a new cozy series in 2019! I enjoyed this short story. I own book 1 of this series, High Strung. Looking forward to reading it!

**I received a free copy of this short story from the author. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.**

I love when authors know we need a small fix into the worlds they have created for us. Author Janice Peacock does just that in BE STILL MY BEADING HEART.

What happened to protagonist Jax’s car, and will she have a date for Valentine’s Day are the biggest questions in this delightful mini read. Set between, book one, HIGH STRUNG, and book two, A BEAD IN THE HAND, you won’t find a dead body in this mini tale in the Glass Bead Mystery series, but you will find a little mayhem, action, and romance.

With the same superb writing found in her other books, author Peacock makes BE STILL MY BEADING HEART a wonderful story to satisfy her fans appetites as we wait for her next full length book.

Gift yourself the Glass Bead Mystery series. It will be one of the nicest things you’ve done for yourself. Pick up a set for a friend too! They’ll thank you for it!

A mini-cozy mystery. Jax (Jacquelyn), a glassbead artist, deals with a stolen car--her precious Ladybug--a red convertible VW. She and bestie, Tessa, go on an adventure searching for the car. Two of Jax's love interests make appearances--Ryan and Zachary. Who will be her Valentine? It's a fun story! I look forward to future books in this series.

When I looked at my calendar for this week I knew I overbooked my reading schedule. That meant my Flashback Friday book had to be a quick read. So I pulled up my TBR list and chose this book. The read was even quicker than I imagined. The first 36% of the book is the short story – Be Still My Beading Heart, the remainder of the 65 pages is Sample Chapters from the first two books in the series. The great news is that the book is FREE an Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and kobo.

I have read this whole series the last few weeks and am waiting for Off the Beadin’ Path to be released tomorrow. This was a special little treat to enjoy in the meanwhile.

Jax has 2 men in life but she doesn’t have a date for Valentine’s Day. Instead she is spending the day trying to find her beloved Ladybug, her red VW bug. Was it towed? Was it stolen? Getting no help from the police she and her friend Tessa are off to search for the car themselves.

This time Jax felt very Stephanie Plum like to me with Tessa as her Lula. They were on a mission and nothing was stopping Jax, at least, from finding her vehicle.

A fun, fast, read. A sweet mini diversion for a nice mini escape. I am really enjoying this series.

A quick easy read, this is a Valentine's Day-themed short story to accompany the Glass Bead series. It takes place approximately four months after the book A Bead In The Hand. It can be read as a stand-alone story, but reading the other two books first will give you more of a sense of all the characters.

This story is Jax's adventure on Valentine's Day, which includes running errands, having her car stolen (or possibly towed by hunky Ryan, the newest member of the police force and one of her probable suitors). In the process of looking for the car, she runs into Zachary, a detective and another probable suitor) at the impound lot.

Jax and Tessa go off looking for the car and get themselves in trouble. But by the end of the day, Jax has found her car, seen the bad guy arrested, and chosen between her suitors.

This is a very well written story which has the same feel to it as the two longer books, which can be difficult to achieve in such a short story. The characters stay true to form, the pacing is perfect, and things wrap up in a very acceptable manner.

Be still my Beading Heart is basically #2.5 in the Glass Bead Mystery series. It is a 40 page short story/novella that shows us what Jax will do when something she loves is in danger. It is Valentine's Day and Val has no plans, yet. The story picks up when her beloved VW convertible is stolen, or was it just towed away for being parked in a no parking zone. When she leaves the museum and her car is gone, she calls her sidekick Tessa to come and pick her up and take her to the towing yard. Finding out her car is not there, she talks to some friends who used to live on the streets and learns that her "Ladybug" could be at a chop shop. Her and Tessa hop in Tessa's car and head off to the location she is told about. Armed with only what is in her purse, she and Tessa take a chance to recover her car. This was a cute story, one that fit in nicely on Valentine's Day. I already knew the characters, so the story was great, but this is not the best in the series to pick up first, as being a novella, there is not a lot of meat to this story.

    A very quick read

“Be Still My Beading Heart” is the first installment in Janice Peacock’s Glass Beads Mini-Mystery series and is a delightfully sweet romantic mystery. The storyline is well thought out and written with the right combination of romance, mystery, and humor. There is no graphic violence, sexually explicit scenes, or inappropriate language.

Valentine’s Day has arrived and Jax finds herself without a date even though she’s recently met two interesting men, Ryan, Seattle’s police officer, and Zachary, a Seattle Detective. While running errands, Jax’s car disappears … Officer Ryan might have towed it since she was parked illegally but it also might have been stolen. Jax and her best friend, Tessa, take matters into their own hands and try to solve the mystery of her missing car. Even though she is focused on finding her car and doesn’t have a date, Jax does her best to salvage Valentine’s Day.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When Jax is out delivering beads her precious VW bug has been stolen. She will do everything she can to get her car back. With the help of her best friend Tessa and two of Seattle's finest looking officers this adventure is sure to get her in a fine mess! This was a short read but it was filled with a lot of twists and turns! This can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend checking out the whole series!

  • Theresa

Extremely short, very thin, short mystery story most aptly described as micro-mini story. Jax finds her beloved red convertible VW bug missing from its somewhat illegal parking space. Was it stolen? Towed? Do we care?

There isn't even any bead-making info to relieve the lack of anything happening. The only mystery is why was this even written.

It got a star for the cover art and very cute title.

  • Krystyna

    The missing car

A silly story about a missing car. Please bear in mind that this is only 32% of the page count. Frankly it was disappointing.

  • Shirley

Cute story, but very short. About 30 pages short. The remainder of the book contains sample chapters of the author's two other books.

  • Janis Hill

I bought this short story for myself with my own money so technically don’t have to thank anyone… but will thank the author for the tip off. ;-)

What can I say, I know it was a short story, sold as a short story and I am obviously a selfishly greedy fan of the ‘Glass Bead Mystery’ series – but I found it too short! :-D

I got to the end and went: wait, what? No! That can’t be all of it!

Sadly it was, but it was worth it all the same.

A lovely little mini mystery to sate we fans until the next book comes out. It picks up nicely from the last full story ‘A Bead in the Hand’, adds some intrigue and filler on the main characters, the hunky guys and our artistic protagonist. All in all it was of the same quality and fun I have come to expect from Ms Peacock and has really made me want to read book three ‘Off the Beadin’ Path’ when it comes out in March. I wish I was on her blog tour so I could read it sooner. :-D

It’s a short story so gets a short review.

Would I recommend this book to others?

Yes I would, though I would strongly advise them to go and grab the first two books ‘High Strung’ and ‘A Bead in the Hand’ first. This mini mystery is not a stand-alone and is best enjoyed in the company of its bigger siblings. ;-)

Would I buy this book for myself?

Already have done. Don’t regret it either. Loved it, read it in like half an hour and wanted more… what can I say? It was good.

In summary: A great little mini mystery and filler to tide the fans over until the next main story.

Jax is in a rush to deliver some of her handmade glass beads to a glass gallery, but afterwards, she can't find her car. She either forgot where she parked, or her precious Ladybug has been stolen. Not to mention it's Valentine's Day, so Jax hopes to track down her missing wheels and maybe get something together to scoot her love life along in Be Still My Beading Heart: A Glass Bead Mini-Mystery by author Janice Peacock.

Well! It turns out this ebook is mostly comprised of all the Bonus Material after the short story, so the story itself is the bonus, to me. And I'd say the mystery and the romance play pretty equal parts in this quick tale.

So, even though the story didn't fill as much reading time as I expected, I otherwise got what I was looking for out of it: a jolly little read with a crime to solve and some fun romance woven in. I enjoyed the story's humor and was pleased to see that it's set in Seattle—best city ever! Plus, sometimes I just want a mystery that isn't about murder, since, yes, there are other types of cases to solve.

Cozy mystery fans may want to check this Glass Bead Mystery series out.

This is a continuation of book 1. We follow Jax as she helps her friend Val with a baking mishap. Funny. We follow her as she attempts to solve another possible mystery. We follow her as her beloved Gumdrop, cat, disappears. We follow her as she starts to fall for a serious upstanding detective. We follow her as her loved VW gets stolen. Will she be able to find the courage to sell her one of a kind beads and at the same time finding her VW and hoping that gumdrop will come home? This is another fun book from Ms. Peacock.

Be Still My Beading Heart is a fast-paced and cute cozy short-read mystery. Jax O'Connell, a glass bead maker, is planning to spend a quiet Valentine's Day at home after running a few errands. After exiting a gallery, she discovers that her red VW bug, "The Ladybug" is missing along with seven hundred dollars worth of glass beads. Was her beloved car stolen or towed because she parked illegally? This charming mystery will take you on a rollercoaster ride and closes with a touch of Valentine romance.

  • Mary

Jacqueline has recently moved from Florida to Seattle to further explore her creative side. While delivering glass bead jewelry to a gallery, her car came up missing. Was it stolen? Did it get towed? In the meantime, she is dodging her boyfriend Ryan, while dating another officer.

The story was very very short and felt quite a bit unfinished. I would have loved more chapters and depth to the story.

  • Monica

    Short but sweet

Cutsie short story featuring my favorite bead buddies from the 3 previous mysteries. I actually laughed out loud while drinking my Diet Coke to the point of choking. I've grown really fond of Jax and her gal pals. I love that she's also got a cat and there are elements of the beading world which is all right up my creative alley since I make handmade jewelry. Looking forward to more mysteries with these sparkly characters.

  • Angela Griffin

    What just happened?!!

Jax's car is stolen...no, it may have been towed by one of her boyfriends...well, maybe it WAS stolen...he wouldn't overlook a parking violation...she goes on a date with the other guy...Happy Valentine's Day! Hard as it is to believe, there's actually more inanity in between this. AND the "story" ends at 30%, so more than twice this space is devoted to hawking other books. Exceedingly disappointed!

  • SANDYE

    Great short story!!

A quick taste of the Glass Head cozy mystery series. Entertaining and definitely made me want to read the whole series!! You will get a general idea of the main character's personalities, and the author's writing style, so this is a great place to start it you're new to this series like I am.

  • Goth Gone Grey

It was fun to visit the glass-loving crew from the Glass Bead Mystery series again! A brief Valentine's Day tale of love, loss, and love found again... And a date, too! As ever, the beading information is sprinkled among the story like murrini in a bead, excellent for glass lovers.

  • Paula Shreckhise

Cute little novella about a beadmaker, Jax O'Connell and her antics when her car gets stolen and she has to choose between two hunky cops that are interested in her. One of a series. I'm a header, so this is interesting.

  • Pamela

    Valentine adventure

This was a fun story that made my eyes roll and brought a smile. Jax and Tessa were on a mission to find Jax’s beloved VA, Ladybug. A nice addition to the Glass Bead series.

  • Susan

This short mystery story was fun, cute, and just happy enough to start my day. The author’s writing style is smooth and engaging. Very nicely presented, and since I am a beader and own a bead shop, this tale caught my interest. 😊

  • Megan Dyson

    Great shorter book

I love the characters and their own way of life. The story is interesting and informative about the bead making and how it mixes a little bit of real life mixed up into the two. Makes me what to buy of of her necklaces lol

  • Estelle Richards

    Very fun!
