Roman is on the verge of leaving the Amish ways. Feeling confined by the strict rules, he longs to do something more with his life. But when things don't go as planned, Roman's prospects outside of the community dwindle. Upon learning that his beloved grandmother has died and left a letter urging him to reconcile with his brother in Birch Creek, Roman decides to return home. But he doesn't plan to stay for long.
Leanna Chupp has always made her own way in her small community of Birch Creek. Though some may call her unconventional--strange, even--Leanna is happy. Her unique outlook on life has meant she's never had many suitors pursuing courtship, which Leanna doesn't mind. She is content being single.
But when Roman and Leanna find themselves working together again, everything changes. Though neither fit squarely within the strictures of the Amish faith, their differences could be the very thing to help them form a deeper connection to their community and to each other. The question remains: will this strengthening bond be enough to make Roman stay for good?
The Promise of a Letter (Amish Letter #2) Reviews

Ive read quite a few Amish books by Kathleen Fuller and THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is exactly why I love her stories. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is the second book in the Amish Letters series. After reading THE PROMISE OF A LETTER I will read every book Kathleen Fuller has written. I instantly felt like I was sitting in Birch Creek, Ohio helping Leanna try and figure out what direction her life was heading to. She does find herself among the gossip and untrue rumors from the community because of her unconventional ways. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with just as much hope as it is with uncertain feelings. My emotions were all over the place while reading and I was even holding my breath at some parts that I was afraid to keep going. How much more heartache and grief could Leanna put up with?
THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with struggling with the choices we have to make and once you start reading, it will be impossible to put down. Keep the tissues close by because this will be one heck of an emotional journey. Kathleen Fuller does a wonderful job of teaching the reader what Leanna is going through. She works in a repair shop and roller-blades are her chosen mode of transportation. Definitely not your typical Amish heroine! Kathleen Fuller really knows how to write about family drama, heartbreak, and forgiveness. I can not wait to read more by this wonderful and heart tugging author.
THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is filled with likable and relatable characters that will find their way into the reader’s heart. Kathleen has a way of grabbing your heart and just squeezing it until you swear it is going to burst. Then she hands it back to you, slightly bruised but still in tact. How an author can do that is beyond me, but I love when it happens. I am so happy that Roman came back to make amends with his brother Daniel after her grandma’s death. THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is going to stay in my heart for a long time to come. My heart is still aching for Leanna after all she went through when her world came crashing down. Kathleen does a great job of keeping you involved in the stories she tells. Grab a copy of this book and enjoy!

The Promise of a Letter is the second book in the Amish Letter series. Even though this is part of a series it can easily be read and understood as a stand alone. Reconciliation is what Roman and his brother's grandmother prayed for. In her last time on earth she knew it was her time to leave her earthly body soon and she didn't tell anyone because she was ready to see her husband who had passed twenty years earlier. She never stopped praying for a reconciliation between Roman and his older brother Daniel and each was delivered a letter telling them so after her death. Roman left the Amish way of life and Daniel was glad because as the older brother he felt responsible for his younger brother. He knew it was time for Roman to stand on his own two feet. Grandmother's death brings Roman back to the Amish community of Birch Creek. He doesn't plan on staying long especially with memories of working with employee, Leanna Chupp at his brother's machine shop. She is six feet tall and outspoken. He just doesn't need that but he does need a job once he decides to stay in the community awhile. They find themselves working together again and things start to change between. This book is heartwarming but a bit heartbreaking at the same time. I very much enjoyed it and look forward to reading book three when it releases. I am never disappointed when I read a Kathleen Fuller book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson--FICTION for a review copy in exchange for my honest review. -
This book was hard for me to put down. I never really understand the Amish ways, but now I have a great understanding and respect for the Amish people. They are loving, caring, hardworking and family oriented folks. This story has sorrow, love, happiness, hardships, wedding and births. Since it is in a small town there is some gossip that goes around that causes real problems for Daniel, Barbara and Leanna. The pastor gets wind of the gossip and gives a sermon about how it is a sin to gossip. He didn't have to call any names because the two old sisters knew who he was talking about since they started the gossip. I was so happy that Roman came back to make amends with his brother Daniel after her grandma's death. His grandma had left a letter to both of the brothers asking them to make amends. That was her dying wish and it happened. Also the happy ending was that Leanna had her own work shop since she could repair almost any item and also she found love with Roman. Roman and Leanna got married and since her best friend Karen was planning a wedding with Leanna's cousin they had a double ceremony. I could go on and on, but I will stop so that you can read this book. It is a book that will put joy in your heart. Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved Leanna! She is a unique character that owns her eccentricities and enjoys her independence. I admired her confidence, yet in this story her confidence is deeply shaken when her life is turned upside down in more than one unforeseen way. The manner in which she deals with her new circumstances and new friendship with Roman shows her compassion and ability to forgive. I enjoyed seeing Roman's journey as he is searching for his place and purpose despite being the black sheep of the family. We also see the struggles of Roman's brother Daniel and his wife Barbara which are heartbreaking but also full of hope and God's grace. Even though Roman and Daniel's grandmother has passed away, she is a major influence in the book and the lives of these men as she encourages them via letter to reconcile and support each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and connecting with the characters! I can't wait to see what's next in the series!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own) -
This novel is book two in the Amish Letters series, however, I believe readers can pick this book up and enjoy it even if they have not read the first book in the series. It is also set it Birch Creek and some characters from the Amish of Birch Creek series make appearances. So, for me it was fun to see characters I knew again, but I still believe this book can stand alone.
What unique people Roman and Leanna were. Both realized that they didn’t exactly fit the mold as most of their Amish friends and family did. Leanna had a better handle on how to be a bit different in the community than Roman did, most likely because she experienced a better and more loving upbringing. It was interesting to see how they interacted with each other and others.
I thought there was great growth in these two characters, as well as in Roman’s brother and his wife. There was also lots of great tension in this story, both due to conflict in the community and also romantic tension between Roman and Leanna. I had trouble setting this book down and definitely look forward to the next in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

After reading Written In Love, I couldn't wait to get my hands on book 2. I finally did and let me tell you what. I absolutely adored it! Book 2 is wonderfully written and instantly captivating, just like book 1. Ms. Fuller once again takes us to Birch Creek where her readers get to fall in love all over again with past, and new characters.
Roman and Leanna's characters really gripped me! I loved them both for different reasons. Roman's character really pulled at my heart, perhaps because I always felt like I couldn't please anyone know matter what I did. Watching him and seeing how he reacts to the letter from his grandmother, really tugged at my soul. I loved him! And sweet Leanna. Bless her. She's so different from your typical Amish women and I loved that about her! Ms. Fuller truly did a good thing with her character. Seeing Roman and Leanna together, following them through this story, was a wonderful time.
This book is so full of messages of God's understanding and forgiving grace. I loved that. I felt His presence while taking this journey with Leanna and Roman and I couldn't wait to get to the end of the book to see what God's plan was for them. I was not disappointed! Ms. Fuller made it into a 5 star worthy book for sure, and it leaves me wanting book 3! I need more Birch Creek Amish and God's grace in these books. Hats off to a wonderfully talented, truly fantabulous Amish novelist who knows how to throw a curve ball and hook her readers!

THE PROMISE OF A LETTER is the second book in Ms. Fuller's Amish Letters series, but while it contains some of the same characters, it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read the first book in the series to find out more about Phoebe and Jalon--Written in Love.
Roman and his older brother Daniel are estranged, mainly because Daniel is tired of being the responsible one and Roman has left the Amish. But the death of their grandmother changed things. Now the two men need to reconcile to honor their grandmother's wishes, but neither is willing to relax around the other enough to do so.
Leanna is more of a man than a woman, more a child than an adult, and she deals with a lot of judgment in her community. Taller than most men, she also works in a predominately male dominated job and knows nothing about women's work. Odd for an Amish woman. When Leanna and her boss, Daniel, are falsely judged, Daniel overreacts, hurting Leanna and himself in the process. I had to keep reading to see how that situation would be resolved.
There really is no sexual tension between hero and heroine, and the faith message is very light. A pleasant read for fans of Amish fiction.
I received a free copy. All opinions are my own. -
This is the second book in The Amish Novels Series, and just as good as the first, in fact the people we learned to love are right here.
I adore it when a book continues with the folks we lived with in the first book, and this one will warm your heart. Phoebe and Jalon are now married and expecting a baby, and Leanna is working for Daniel, fixing motors, she is not a girly girl.
We catch up with Daniel and Barbara, and your heart will break for them. A very sad happening is a catalyst for bringing Roman back to Birch Creek, Ohio, and a reunion with Leanna, and if you are familiar, they were like oil and water.
Be ready to be absorbed into the Amish life in this community, whether you are sitting down for dinner, or playing in the yard with the children, and living their faith. The community has their share of gossips and like everywhere; they spread their damage by words, and we see how all are affected.
We are all called on by our faith to offer forgiveness, and as shown here it is not always easy, but satisfying when offered. Will Leanna and Daniel and Barbara be able to live their faith and forgive Roman?
Once you turn the first page you will be compelled to keep reading, and now I can’t wait for the next book in this series, Ivy’s!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review. -
"'Dear Roman, Here is a place for you to. . . write down your dreams, and give your prayers to God. Remember, He has promised to teach and guide us, and He will always be with you. Never forget that. Love, Grossmammi" (22)
The promise of a grandmother's love in a letter about the promise of God's love started on a prodigal's journey in The Promise of a Letter by Kathleen Fuller. The first book in the series, Written in Love still tickles my booknerd senses, so I was quite excited to meet the characters again in this second installment. And I was not disappointed.
"There was a place for everything and everything had a place."(99)
First, lets talk about our prodigal. When I say prodigal, it should be loosely interpreted. Roman is unsure of his future, and having felt "stuck" most of his life, he's hoping a for a chance to find a way. When he received his grandmother's letter, and her last wish, he embarks on making amends with his estranged brother. He arrives in Birch Creek misunderstood and ready to take flight - at least that's what others surmise. Yet, that was not the plan at all, at least not God's plan.
"'I see what's reflected in mei life. Whenever I try to do something, whenever I have a plan, it gets thwarted.' 'Then maybe you're working too hard to fulfill yer plan instead of God's.'" (146)
Then we have Leanna, whom I just find eccentric in a good way and refreshing. She's six feet tall, independent and very aware of what she is capable of and what she wants. Almost an exact opposite of what we see in Roman, yet, no matter how assure she seems on the outside, there may still be something that troubles her. I really enjoyed how their friendship developed in the course of the novel to what readers can clearly see as love growing. Not only between Leanna and Roman, other characters and their secondary storyline gave readers more than one message, and more than one focus. And with that, I've come to relish in this series tremendously. I feel like I know these characters on a personal level.
"Understanding exactly where I belong. There's freedom in that. True freedom." (281)
In all, The Promise of a Letter more than exceeds my expectations for a Kathleen Fuller novel, a second novel in the Amish Letters series, and my love for Amish Fiction with the hope for a message that finds a permanent fixture in my life. Yes, The Promise of a Letter is all that and more.
"God's the one who worked on their hearts. . . let God work on yers. You might find something you've been missing all along." (211)

This is not a book that you will be able to put down. I had to find out if the brothers were going to come together and forgive each other and move on.
One brother I did not care much for, I will let you figure out which one when you read it. Because I know that you are going to want to read to find out what is going on with these two brothers.
This is the first book that I have read by Fuller in about 6 or 7 years. I needed a break from all the same ole same ole Amish fiction books.
Another blogger told me that she had changed her writing style to just out some of her later books and this one was sent to me by the publisher so I sat down to give it a try and WOW, it was much different than those first books I had read. I really did enjoy this one.
I am awaiting book three in this series. This can be read as a stand alone I did not read book one and I was not last at all.
I gave this book 4 stars, I recommend it.

BACK OF THE BLURB
A letter brings him back TO HIS AMISH FAMILY. BUT IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE TRULY EXTRAORDINARY TO MAKE HIM STAY.
Roman is on the verge of leaving the Amish ways. Feeling confined by the strict rules, he longs to do something more with his life. But when things don't go as planned, Roman's prospects outside of the community dwindle. Upon learning that his beloved grandmother has dies and left a letter urging him to reconcile with his brother in Birch Creek, Roman decides to return home. But he doesn't plan to stay for long.
Leanna Chupp has always made her own way in her small community of Birch Creek. Though some may call her unconventional---strange, even---Leanna is happy. Especially since Roman Raber moved away., and she no longer has to work with him.
MY REVIEW
Kathleen has shared yet another touching story. I really enjoyed this story and how both Roman and Leanna, somewhat considered outcasts, deal with life and seem to unknowingly help each other. I will say that with this series it will help you if you read the books in order. Kathleen does a great job of keeping you involved in the stories she tells, grab a copy of this book and enjoy!

The Promise of a Letter by Kathleen Fuller, © 2017
Amish Letters series, Book 2
~* in the heart of Ohio Amish country *~
Birch Creek ~
I like how mail for Leanna Chupp is left in the mailbox for her to discover for herself. The hidden art of self-expression! Leanna lives in the smaller dawdi haus behind the main house she and her brother, Jalon, had grown up in on the now expanded farm. She shares her Maine Coon cat, Blue, with her nephew's affection. The opening has her on her way home from work ~ upon her roller blades!
Leanna is content with her life the way it is. Her job, her home life, and her friend, Ivy Yoder, fill her days with expectation. Things are about to change to ruffle her space in Birch Creek. Roman Raber is returning home.
Roman never thought he would return, but on the bidding of a letter left for him at the passing of his dear grandmother, Roman must respond to her last wishes for him. How long can it take to complete her request?
Daniel Raber isn't the easiest person to be around; others might concur. Has hurt crept in so deep to foul his ways? The intent of a miserable heart misleads a promise of surrender. Could it really be possible to forgive and relinquish pain?
New hopes arise as families come together to polish each other by allowing a trust to enter.
I especially liked this story! Relinquished hearts turn from hiding. Excellent writing of heart desires exposed to self as well.
***Thank you to author Kathleen Fuller and to Fiction Guild for a copy of The Promise of a Letter. This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.*** -
The Promise of a Letter was a book that started with a bit of a struggle for me. I just had a harder time becoming enraptured in the story. But, once I reached that point where I started to really enjoy it, I loved travelling to Birch Creek again within the pages of the book.
I think my struggles initially came from there just being a lot of characters, and since this is the second book and I haven’t yet read the first, well, it was just a lot to take in and keep track of. It had that feeling of being an outsider and just waiting for the invitation to join in the conversation. But, sticking with it paid off and found a story that was beautifully told.
There were some mighty themes in this novel. One of my favorites was the idea that God often has a different story in mind that is far better than the story we expect. We definitely see this is Leanna and her confirmed status as a bachelorette with no intentions of love or marriage. And then there is the powerful message of forgiveness that comes across between brothers Daniel and Roman.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and it is one that I would highly recommend.

Hook, Line, and Sinker!
Get your favorite beverage and snack and be ready! Ready for what? The solar eclipse of 2017 is gone. What do we look forward to now? Why it’s Kathleen Fuller’s latest in her Amish Letters series, The Promise of a Letter! And believe me, you’ll need a snack for sustenance as you flip pages into the night. It is THAT good!
The Promise of a Letter follows Leanna Chupp. Leanna is different in so many ways: She speaks her mind, she’s tall (six feet!), AND she’s a mechanic! What?! Yes, a female Amish mechanic! She basks in being single and is ready for a life full of meaning…and she doesn’t need a man for that.
Then there’s Roman Raber. He’s a professional fence-jumper…in the Amish sense of the term. He’s in the English world, but receives a letter that is life-altering. When he visits his brother (and Leanna’s boss), there is something there. They knew each other, briefly, when he was part of the Birch Creek church….and skipped out of town. He can’t be trusted…can he? Read and find out! -
I absolutely love Kathleen Fuller's stories!
This is the second installment of a three part series. It can be read as a stand a line but you'll want to read Phoebe and Jalons story first!
It is a page turner and will keep you on edge and next thing you know you're finished with it!
I love Leanna and Roman. -
The story shows the healing power of a grandmother's love.
-
I liked this one, but not as much as the previous book. This one is more depressing, but there is a happy ending. There are fewer letters in this book, too. I liked Roman and Leanna. I felt bad for them. They were likeable but were treated badly. Their relationship was quick and sweet, but there were a few minor bumps. The worst incidents happened to minor characters but affected them too.
-
Back to Birch Creek with Jalon and Phoebe and their new fledgling family and a host of community and friends. Jalon's sister Leanna is still working for their friend and neighbor Daniel in his small engine repair shop. Not a normal occupation for a female but as a confirmed bachelor (her words not mine) it's what she is passionate about and what she loves. In the first book, 'Written in Love', where it all started, we met Daniel's brother Roman, briefly. We knew enough that he was a thorn in Leanna's side as well as his brother's. After the passing of their Grossmammi he's back to attempt to make amends and reconcile with his brother. For better or worse, for the love of this woman he is bound to make this work. But regaining trust is hard, and Roman's ability to stick with it is lacking.
I'll be honest, the brewing romance (come on it's not like you didn't know it was coming) between Roman and Leanna was a bit awkward. I frequently feel this way in more romantic type books. Why is so hard to translate the beginning of falling for someone into words? But then again, we are talking about two awkward adults. Two people who had sworn off traditional roles of family and marriage and kidlets. For two sorta, almost different reasons but still. It's not only finding their way after the disaster that was their first meeting but also dealing with new feelings for themselves and deciding if it's worth the potential hurt to put their trust into another. It's complicated. And hard. And well, it's real life.
I really really liked this book. I love these characters, I love seeing these two specifically come into their own and find a way. I feel like their romance was too fast and the wedding too quick but then I usually do. I loved the side story of Adam and Karen too. I can't wait to see where the next book is going to take us, though I've got a gut feeling it's with Ivy. You know, Leanna's bestie. Six months, I can wait six months right?

After loving Written in Love by Kathleen Fuller, I was looking forward to the next book in her Amish Letter’s series, The Promise of a Letter, to release.
What struck me in the first book was the relationship that came out of written letters between two Amish. In The Promise of a Letter, we see how a letter can impact a family.
Roman, wanting to do more with his life, is ready to leave his Amish ways. His grandmother, who he loved, dies and left a letter urging him to reconcile with his brother. He decides to go back home, but he doesn’t plan on staying long.
Leanna Chupp was a very interesting character in this book. She works in a small engine repair shop, which is unusual for an Amish girl. Since she works with men on a regular basis, a rumor about her starts being spread. My heart felt for her as she had to deal with the rumor and the pain it caused her. There was an important lesson that comes out through this in the story.
Kathleen did an amazing job with this story! I’m impressed how she took something so simple, like writing letters, and turned it into an engaging story that transported me right into the pages of the book. Now I can’t wait until Words from the Heart releases!
*I received a free copy of this product to facilitate this post, however you, my readers, come first and all opinions are my own. -
I love the first Amish Letter. This second book was good, but not as good as the first.
-
Could the promise of a letter really get the lives of the Raber men to change forever? Seeing as there is so much division between the two, especially when Roman, the youngest, decided to up and leave the Amish community in Birch Creek, Ohio without ever saying goodbye. No note. Nothing. Now that he's been trying to live among the English and get into college as an Engineer, he receives word that his grandmother has passed away. The one and only person who really was family to him. She died. He wasn't there. Is it possible to go home again?
Roman wasn't sure what to expect when he packed up what little he owned and headed by to Birch Creek. All he knew was that he needed to see his grandmother's grave and tell her how sorry he was for not being there for her. Perhaps things might have had a different outcome. Perhaps even today, she might still be alive. He just didn't expect to see his father while standing at her grave. He said nothing in passing. No expressions on his face. He just handed Roman a letter and walked away. It was a letter from his grandmother. One last request. That he reconcile with his brother Daniel and then he could do whatever he needed to do with his life. But Daniel got the same letter in regards to the terms of reconciling with his brother, he just never expected to see him back so soon. But it was the one thing both brothers could do was to find a way to fulfill their grandmother's request, but it might take an act of God to heal the bitterness and pain inside them both.
Leanna Chupp went against what most people might think for an Amish woman. She didn't cook. Couldn't cook. Wasn't good with sewing or any of the household tasks most would expect. In fact she left her house pretty much the way she did every single day. Bed unmade, dishes in the sink, and time to do that later. At almost six feet, she didn't look like most Amish women either, but her family loved her for what she was. Talented at anything with a motor or moving parts. Thankfully her father raised her to do what she loved and she had a great job working for Daniel Raber, until he fired her. Without explanation. She would later learn that some of the elder ladies in the community had taken to gossiping about Leanna that she was having an affair with Daniel, since the two worked to closely together at his shop and often late into the evenings. While his wife Barbara never considered it, with being pregnant and hearing the rumors herself, she began to wonder. That is just the very reason that Daniel came to the decision even though doing this would put his business far behind getting the orders fulfilled.
I received The Promise of A Letter by Kathleen Fuller compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley. This is such a heartwarming novel of reconciliation and of unconditional love as the central theme. It shows us that we don't have to forget the pain, but with God's help we can move forward and let the healing begin. We don't need to understand the why's of doing it, and that is the question that Roman and Daniel are challenged with since their grandmother had passed, there was no way to ask anything of what lead to this decision to reconcile. However once the men have a chance to solve their own personal pain, can they begin to build upon the pain that pulled them apart and be honest despite the hurt it might cause to finally achieve resolution. I absolutely LOVED this novel and can't wait for what is coming next in this series from Kathleen Fuller. I give this one a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. -
The Promise of a Letter by Kathleen Fuller is an exciting adventure. A book with meaning and purpose. Two protagonists feel trapped, lost, and hurt. But with some time, hope, and faith they will be able to heal and move forward with happiness. The title is exactly what the story is about and shows that even the things we want are not what we may need.
Kathleen Fuller is a writer with a magical wand. I love traveling deep into her books. The characters are hard to ignore. Their life issues sucked me into their dilemmas and had me rooting for them. The book also contained a great emotional journey. I felt each characters loss, hope, faith, worry, anger, and fear. It was exciting to watch them grow.
Leanna is a young Amish woman who is nothing like the others in her community. She hated school except for a few subjects like math. Her ability to fix things is amazing. Mechanical knowledge is for men. And here, I got to watch her fulfill that role. Leanna struggled with what others said about her working as a mechanic. But still, she never gave up...and it was thanks to one man who gave her that break. Only...soon, a gossip breaks out, bringing forth doubt and fear. This causes Leanna to lose her job. I felt sorry for her. It was funny to watch her fulfill more duties suited for her gender....like canning tomatoes. Leanna is terrible at the traditional women duties. But as a mechanic, friend, daughter, and as a sister, Leanna does well.
Roman is a young Amish man. Not wanting to marry just like Leanna. He too, is interested in mechanics and engineering. In fact, he was pursuing a degree in it. But then, tragedy strikes. Causing Roman to travel home once more. He's not happy about it. The way he left the last time, will cause for hardship between him and his older brother, Daniel. Daniel is all he has left. But Daniel doesn't want him home nor helping him. However, Daniel is foolish and gets injured. This causes him to feel worse. With his injuries, Roman automatically takes up the challenge to help his brother. A mechanic shop should be easy...only Roman knows he needs help. Leanna...
Daniel is the older brother of Roman. He owns his own memchanic shop. Before it was just him and Roman. Until he got married...then, things changed. Roman left never saying goodbye. This hardened Daniel's heart and made him angry. Struggling with things, Daniel is to stubborn to ask for help. His wife is pregnant and he's afraid she loose the baby...then, there's the nasty rumor that has him and his wife upset. He lets go of his only employee. His best employee, Leanna.
The Promise of a Letter is an outstanding read. Kathleen Fuller knows how to nab her readers' attention immediately. Every page was full of action, suspense, tension, and drama. I loved it. A good clean Christian novel with a bit of romance. Overall, I highly recommend this to all.
I got this copy from the publisher. This, is my voluntary review. -
I'm a blogger with the Fiction Guild's Elite Reader Program, and I am very fortunate to be able to receive a lot of books that my mother and I love to read. Today's book is by Kathleen Fuller, and since she's one of my mom, Gloria's favorite authors, her assistance was enlisted to read and review this book, The Promise of a Letter since I knew my mom had already read Written in Love, which is another book in the "Amish Letters" series.
This book can be read as a standalone, but some of the unforgettable characters are continued from the first book, Written In Love.
Phoebe and Jalon are now married and expecting their first child. This story begins in Birch Creek, Ohio with Jalon’s unique sister Leanna Chupp working for their friend Daniel Raber in a small engine repair shop. Leanna’s occupation is not the norm for an Amish woman. Leanna is good at repairing motors and the customers love her. She cannot sew, cannot cook, keeps a messy home but loves working in the repair shop. Because of her unconventional ways there are rumors and stories from the gossipers in the community.
Daniel’s brother Roman is very close to leaving the Amish community and wants to attend college to become an engineer. He needs financial assistance and has applied for a scholarship with several schools. Things are not working out and his prospects of finding a good job outside of the community has come to an end. Roman receives word that his beloved grandmother has died. He did not attend her funeral he must go back to Birch Creek and visit her grave. He does not plan to stay long.
Both Daniel and Roman receives a letter written by their grandmother right before she passed away with her one last request. That they reconcile their differences. Could they fulfill their grandmother’s request with all the pain between them? Trying to patch things up Daniel gives Roman his job back. Roman is seeking forgiveness.
Leanna and Roman develop an unlikely friendship as they are working together again. Both are single and happy that way.. I loved reading about their journey together and how their relationship grew. A tragic turn at the shop brings Leanna and Roman together to help Daniel and his wife Barbara save their business.
Anytime I see a book written by Kathleen Fuller I know I will enjoy reading it. This one is no exception!!
I received a paperback copy of this book without cost from the publisher through The Fiction Guild, a Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Elite Reader book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own, or in this case, my mom's. -
The second installment of An Amish Letters Novel is one which does an excellent job on the subject of forgiveness and trust. I found the story to be emotional and well written. The author takes a subject that is hard for many and walks characters gently through the steps with compassion and understanding. One of the hardest things I've found is to forgive and trust. It has been a stumbling block in my walk with God. After reading this story, I find myself feeling at peace knowing what I must do to be free from the bondage that has held me back for so long.
I want to start with the character Roman because I can relate to him so well. Having grown up in a home where there was no love was very difficult for me. I resented my parents and it hurt to know I was never wanted. Roman has decided he should leave the Amish and start over somewhere else. . He didn't have a good childhood and I think the hurt of having parents that never showed any affection was very difficult for him and his brother. It was nice to know that their grandmother stepped in and showed them that they were loved and wanted. When Roman receives a letter from his grandmother, he finds his life changed forever. She had one last wish and wanted Roman to promise to fulfill it. Can you imagine how hard it was for Roman to go home and face his brother?
Leanna is a great character who is very smart , has a keen eye for working on mechanical things like engines and other things. It is not an ideal job for a woman among the Amish but I loved how the author showed how Leanna could do the work with no problem. She is happy at her job until gossip starts up about her. We hear it spoke of many times at church, but gossip seems to get hold of people and before you know it, it is spread like wildfire. What people forget is that gossip can be hurtful and can destroy a person. I thought the author did a wonderful job showing readers how gossip can change an innocent person's life.
There are some very heartbreaking moments in the story that will test Barbara and Daniel's faith. I loved the moments they shared as they grew closer during a tragedy. Can Roman find his way back to his brother and reconcile? Will the brothers be able to forgive each other and theirselves? Do Roman and Leanna find a way to start more than a friendship between them? Don't miss this beautiful story of redemption, trust , faith and forgiveness.
I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild. The review is my own opinion. -
About the Book:
A letter brings him back to his Amish family. It will take someone truly extraordinary to make him stay.
My Review:
I don't care what anyone says, Amish Fiction is where its at. You wouldn't think that they would have very good stories but they really do. I love this genre and it offers us up some really good stories.
Roman is about to return home to his old Amish community that he left so many years ago to reconcile with his breather. He loves his family but doesn't plan on staying their past the reconciliation. Its like I tell my kiddos, death trumps everything. No matter what situations are going on with your family, death should be a reason that you reconcile and that is what Roman plans to do with his brother, Daniel.
Leanna is very different from a typical Amish woman. I think that is the thing you will notice the most about this story. Leanna is taller than most women and not only that she works in the men's arena.
When Roman comes back to the small community of Birch Creek, things seems to change between him and Leanna. Roman seemed a bit troubled when he left the Amish community but after his return things are different. read along to find out what the future holds for Roman and Leanna.
A great read any time of the day or night!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own. -
Always remember this, God loves you, and I love you. No matter your path in life, those things will always be true. Even as a young boy you were your own person. Smart, stubborn, always trying to find ways to make things better. Easier. But God never promised us an easy life. Struggle and pain is what makes us grow, and it also shows how we need the Lord in our lives. Escaping isn't the answer. Facing things is. You can be the person God created you to be and still be part of the community and family that loves. It breaks my heart that you have isolated yourself from us.
A grandmother's letter to her grandson is full of promise and love. A sweet continuation of the first book that brought Jalon Chupp and Phoebe now brings an unlikely pair together Jalon's sister Leanna and Roman. Leanna is not your typical young Amish woman waiting to be married. She lives on her brother's farm in the grandparents home and works for an Amish machine shop owned by Daniel, the eldest brother of Roman. Leanna loves her job and the family she works for, however, when Amish gossip makes the round, Leanna must learn what it means to turn the other cheek.
The brother's are estranged but with their grandmother's letter of promise, they are brought together when they need each other the most. Both brothers are fighting the need however, with circumstances and the support of strong Amish women, they fulfill the promise of a grandmother's love for her grandsons.
With the walls that Roman has built around his heart, Leanna heals her own heart with the loss of her job as she finds purpose and with patience and love.
I truly love the characters that Fuller brings to life in this Amish Community. She deals with alcoholism and other issues that each family encounters. The prideful heart and the heart that yearns for acceptance. There is real connection with these characters that had me in tears and whooping for joy when the heart was open to love. Loved it!
