Dianthe's Awakening (Dia McLearey, #2) Reviews

LOVE this series but...
...it is taking sooo long. I feel like I waited forever for this one and it was so ridiculously short. This was more of a novella as nothing was really resolved. Dia is still with the hunt and even though some unexpected things happen while she is there, we're still waiting to see what becomes of it all. I'm losing patience which is a real shame because this story really captured my heart from the beginning. -

This second (technically, third if you count the bonus book) instalment of the Dia McLearey series starts almost immediately after Dia was taken by the Hunt – or rather, she went willingly with the Lord and God of the Hunt in order to save the lives of her three mates: Robin/Puck, Daniel and Kale. Relatively quickly after Dia joining the Hunt the Lord and God Cernunnos (Keir) starts to suspect that the Hunt was called as a part of a sham and so, he finds it best to keep Dia with them until he can find out who orchestrated the call and why.
During her time with the Hunt Dia trains with them, makes new friends, gain more power, extends her family and find her last mate (that we know of) to complete her harem. I’ll admit I didn’t really know how to feel about this book! I didn’t much like the way Dia just seemed to be okay with being taken away. I mean yes, she does try to escape once which was painful to read about because of how ridiculous it was. However, instead of being devastated with her loss she kind of just replace the people from back home. We don’t really hear anything about her missing her BFF, Annie, only a vague comparison between her and her new bestie, Bronach. She misses her mates, yes, but she doesn’t seem appropriately torn up about the entire ordeal. I did like Cernunnos in the beginning but after he becomes Dia’s mate, I don’t really like him anymore. Actually, scratch that, I guess it’s not him I don’t like, it’s Dia.
Everyone seems to be bending over backwards for this special little snowflake and she responds by either being a raging bitch or a petulant child. Honestly, I like her best when she’s asleep or knocked out. Her personality and double standards are enough to drive any reader insane especially, when she has a sexual encounter with Bronach. Personally, I don’t mind a bit of F/F action, however, we know from previously that Dia is a jealous mate and now that she’s cheated on her mates I guess I can see why. So far, they’ve all said that sex between mates is fine, because they are all in a relationship with each other, not just with Dia. But Bronach is not part of her little harem, so she doesn’t really have any right to go there. But I guess the plot will continue to accommodate this little Mary Sue, so I don’t foresee any problems with that, which is a shame.
As I’ve only just read this book now it contains two parts instead of being the two books, it originally was. Which is great because when the end of part one comes up, we hardly know anything and we’ve definitely not moved anywhere in the storyline. However, despite there being two parts in this book I felt unfulfilled when it ended. I don’t want to reveal why, but let’s just say that Dia is in mourning and seriously needs to get her thoughts and emotions under control. When we leave her, she’s admitting to having favourites within her harem and, she doesn’t even spare a thought for two of her four men. So, in order to ever make me a team Dia reader, I need her to grow the F up and pull her shit together in the next book. -
At the end of Book 1, Dia was taken by the Hunt. She willingly left with them to save her mates. Now she finds herself a captive of Cernunnos (Keir), the Lord of the Hunt, a god. However, it seems that the Hunt was called under false pretense. Keir is intrigued by Dia and decides to keep her until he knows who called the Hunt and the real reason behind it. During her time with the Hunt, Dia trains with her powers, makes new alliances and gains more powers, makes a best friend, and discovers the mate to complete her heart.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I did not like that Dia was ripped away from Robin, Kale, and Daniel and that we got virtually nothing about them. Worse was that it seemed Dia was not appropriately devastated to be away from her mates. I was not a fan of Cernunnos for the first part of the book, but he won me over as her mate. I loved her friendship with Bronach, however not when it went sexual. It's one thing to have sex with Keir, her mate, but she crossed a line with Bro. If her and her mates had a conversation and agreement that they could have sex with people outside of their bonds, then I could have accepted this, however, they did not. She cheated. How would she feel if any of her guys saw another attractive man or woman and decided to be intimate with them? She got jealous when a PA spoke to Keir, I'm not thinking that she would be too happy if one or more of the guys hooked up with anyone outside of their bonds. I would have enjoyed the book more if the two women had never crossed that line. I liked the introduction of Rioghan and the Sluagh. Complicates her ties and powers even more. And I adored her hound. This part of the story was delightful.
I was very unhappy at the books end. I needed to understand more of the seasons. Hopefully, there will be more of an explanation in the next book. Both events were predictable. What wasn't was Dia's reaction. Yes, I understand mourning; however embracing the sorrow to the point where you don't care about your other mates was unacceptable. She had already admitted to caring for Robin more. Then he gets bumped down by Keir. Do Kale and Daniel even rank? My love for Dia was diminished during this book. I need her to prove to me that she is worthy of Robin, Kale, and Daniel, because right now I'm not sure she is. I am eagerly anticipating the next book. Hopefully Dia can recapture my faith and doesn't spent the whole time being whiny and self-absorbed. I want more of the Dia that goes out of her way to comfort, embrace, love her guys and everyone who crosses her path. -
I grabbed the first book by chance read it loved it, stalked amazon until I saw the second book and snagged it. I'm so glad that I found these books, amazing story with wonderful characters. I just loved both of them.
Dianthe is snatched and brought to a place she's never been, just when she thought she was settling into the whole magic with three mates. Her world will get shaken again, she will need to find the strength to hang in there just a bit longer.
Oh as her three mates are beside themselves not being able to get to their mate, Dianthe wont be alone in her struggles to adjust to even a new life with greater responsiblities. Meet Cernunnos oh yeah he isn't all he seems, not only will he rock Dianthes world, the world as he knows it, will be rocked and by a very young beautiful sassy female. That changes all that she touches.
Things set in motion that Dianthe thinks to harm her, may just be to help her and the world as she has known it. her mind misses her three mates, and her body craves their touch.
very hot scenes, loved the magic loved the god and his personality. The new characters were awesome as well. all around I just loved the story and cant wait for the next one. -
I really like this story, but it was more of a novella than a whole book. I can't wait for the next book.

I give this book a 3.5 star rating.
Umm... so where do I start! Dianthe’s Awakening is technically the second book in this series and it picks up where we left off. She is kidnaped by the Hunt and held hostage until Cernunnos can ascertain who called an unjust Hunt on Dia. Meanwhile back on the Earth plane we get a glimpse into how her mates are coping with the separation.
There are many plot twists throughout the book, Dia is discovering more about herself and her powers, we see more of her protective side and love for all things. Majority of people/beings are drawn to her intrinsically, it’s like she lost her human family but is gaining another with the more she meets.
The book itself is broken into two parts; her initial stay with the Hunt and her acceptance that she can’t go home just yet, there is a need to learn and love first and foremost.
Because this is a reverse harem expect a few combinations (MFF, MMM & MF) scénarios it is 18+. I must say though I cringe every time “cunny” is mentioned and there a few more in this one than the others. Enjoy! -
Emotional Rollercoaster
I found this addition of the story powerful. There were moments I laughed and those that I cried. I hurt, I grieved, I burned, and learned as I went more about this world and it's characters. There were some more interesting surprises and a bitter betrayal but there was hope as well, even when all was thought lost. Gah! I loved all of this book so much! -
Uhh I need more, now I"m hooked.

Just FYI this is actually part one in Dianthe's Awakening now when you get the book from Amazon, so my review is the same as the one I posted on Darkness because the book I read encompasses both.
JB Miller did not disappoint in the 2nd book of Dia's story. I was pulled in from the first page. I experienced the full range of emotions while reading. Happiness, humor, sadness, despair, love...it's all their for the reader to experience. I love that Dia is ever changing and growing and can't wait to see what happens next! -
So good but a cliffy
We learn about the consequences of Dia's actions from the first book. I truly did not want to like the Lord of the Hunt, but by the end of the book I was rooting for him. All the plot twists hopefully will get sorted out in the next book. Then maybe we can learn some more about the reason for the Hunt in the first place. -
While Dianthe is away, learning how to ride a sentient horse which had me giggling, her three mates are bereft and moving apart. They are all suffering, but Puck is coping better than Kale and Daniel.
A little danger, much intrigue and emotional angst keeps the story moving and I can't wait to read the next one.
