The Official Guide to the GRE General Test Reviews

I read this book for my GRE, and it was undoubtedly useful. Don't be afraid of its volume! You may be able to read 200 pages a day easily (of course this can differ from person to person). This book includes essential information about all sections of GRE. Moreover, it contains two GRE Practices Tests with complete answers and explanations which can be very advantageous.

  • Andrew Morgan Perschbacher

I guess it's hard to rate this when I have yet to take the test. 4-stars because the book made me feel prepared to take the exam.

  • Parker McGoldrick

    LETS DO THIS THING

  • Nathan Ormond

It will probably help you bump your marks up a little bit. Overall this whole test is a little bit of a scam IMO

  • Ashley Dean

Great for studying the GRE! Wish the language was less pompous and explained more, though. One can only take too many "obviously" explanations to a wrong answer before it gets to ones head.

So I feel that somebody needed to give a review of this book because of what I, myself, experienced with this book.

First, I have to give a little bit of background. I've been doing well on the GRE Practice tests for the most part. It's not a perfect score, but typically a decent score. Say around 310-320 when I take it. So I thought I was doing excellently and that I'm prepared to take the GRE and get into the school of my choice.

Then I came across this book and thought, hey, I might as well try it! But then I encountered several problems:

    1. The wording is TERRIBLE. I found myself turning to friends and family more for help so I could arrive at correct answers.

    2. The tests are CONFUSING. Why? Because of number 1. So in other practice tests, and even in the GRE site where it talks about test-taking, they say that ovals mean one answer, squares mean two. So at an oval, I can only fill in one answer. With a square, I can fill in two. These tests have you fill in the square, and when I checked to see if my two answers were correct with the square questions. Turns out, they only wanted me to give one answer. ONE.

    3. Only prepares for the paper test. I was wondering if maybe the paper test doesn't require one-answer oval questions and two-answer squares questions? But then why do they have it on their website?

I'll provide links later. I'm just tossing this book out of my shelves because this book felt like a waste of my time.

No better book than the book by the test makers. It is concise and well organized, good for those with limited study time and just need something efficient. If you have more study time, you will want to try other books/resources, but if you only have a week, this is the book to get.

  • Mahdi

Don't be terrified by the number of pages! This book can be finished in just 3-4 days

  • Madelyn

verbatim the same shit as in the quantitative reasoning and verbal reasoning textbooks.

Very helpful for preparing for the GRE.
