I generally enjoy these little Latvian anthologies. This one is decent, but a few too many cartoonists lean too heavily into the “Dada” theme.
I’m probably not the best audience, though, since I write and teach about modernist art movements and their legacies. From my perspective, comics are already an ideal Dada artifact without having to reorient or reimagine them in any way. There are good reasons why the early 20th century Dadaists were into comics. There’s just no need to make comics seem more Dada-like.
Nevertheless, I can say nothing bad about the work that the editors at kuš! produce and bring together. These anthologies are always worth your time. -
