When Felix arrived at Huddersfield Railway Station as an eight-week-old kitten, no one knew just how important this little ball of fluff would become. Although she has a vital job to do as 'Senior Pest Controller', Felix is much more than just an employee of TransPennine Express. For her colleagues and the station's commuters, Felix has changed their lives in surprising ways.
Felix seems to have a remarkable ability to save the day time and again: from bringing a boy with autism out of his shell to providing comfort to a runaway child shivering on the platform one night. So when tragedy hits the team at Huddersfield, they rely on Felix to pull them together again. But it's a chance friendship with a commuter that she waits for on the platform every morning that finally gives Felix the recognition she deserves, catapulting her to international stardom...

Felix the Railway Cat Reviews

When I first moved back to West Yorkshire, someone asked me if I’d heard of Felix. Felix was a famous railway cat, living at Huddersfield Station. I hadn’t heard of Felix, the famous cat. I found my way to Felix’s Facebook page and fell in love with the ball of floof affectionately loved by all worldwide. Felix the Railway Cat is her (Felix is a lady ya know) story.
We find out that there was a massive campaign to get a cat at Huddersfield Station. A couple of the workers were determined to get their way, begging and persuading the management. They needed a cat! It was that simple. Cat lovers will totally understand this. Eventually they got a tiny male kitten to love. Felix the cat was to be the special Pest Controller of the station. This tiny male kitten turned out to be female, hilariously. Felix brightened working days at the station, with her antics, cute behaviour and lovable personality. She brought happiness and magic into their lives, as well as the many passengers who use the station. Imagine their surprise seeing a small cat in the arms of the station workers. This cat grew up and found her confidence around the busy station.
Soon with the excellent Facebook page and the well deserved promotion to senior Pest Controller, Felix became a worldwide sensation. Loved all over the world, everyone can see updates on Felix and her cheeky playful ways. Felix has an army of fans. She gets sent loads of cat pressies, which are happily donated to charities. We all love Felix!
This is a fun and joyful tale of a superstar cat! A must read for every fan of Felix the Railway Cat. -
3 stars
After years of begging, the staff at Huddlesfield Railway station in Yorkshire, northern England in the UK, were finally permitted to get a station cat. Born in 2011, and believed to be a boy, Felix was re-homed and named. SHE, as Felix turned out to a Lady, became the famed 'Pest Controller" of the Huddlesfield Station, winning the hearts of not only staff and commuters, but laying claim to people world wide when her FaceBook page came out.
Cute read for cat lovers. Tells of her antics in and around the station and the loving care of the station staff. Good photos accompany the story. This book covers the cat's first 5 years. There is a follow up book" Full Steam Ahead, Felix: Adventures of a famous station cat and her kitten apprentice" which I have not yet read.
Many railway stations in England can profess to the home and care of station cats. Or Duck, as one station appears to house.
Written by a well known author, Kate Moore, who also wrote "Radium Girls" and "The Woman They Could Not Silence" attests to a well written story. -
Whilst I really love the idea that there is a train station in Yorkshire that has its very own resident cat, I did not enjoy what I read of Kate Moore's account of this at all. I found myself quite bored by the initial chapter, and Felix herself takes an awfully long time to be introduced. By that point, I had grown so tired of Moore's depiction of those who work in the station, and of her quite plodding writing, that I could not summon the excitement to read any further.

I was looking for a heartwarming read during the current situation that the majority of us are currently facing. After my experiences with Felix The Railway Cat, I can happily say that reading books featuring cats are definitely for the win! The real story about a train station in England who acquire a young cat to keep everyone staff and passenger-wise company and name it Felix. This is truly Felix's story. There were lots of funny moments and also scary ones. It was an adventure that I pleasantly enjoyed!

Lovely book about how Felix lives her life as a railway cat =^..^=
Beautiful 'happy' book to read if you need a break from thrillers, horror etc, -
I love cats so I had a feeling this book would be a winner for me!
I may have just got slightly distracted after writing that, as I just remember I needed to like Felix's Facebook page(
https://www.facebook.com/FelixHudders... ) .....and then I watched some Felix videos.....
I loved Felix! She is such a character. And I loved reading about all the shenanigans she got up to. How she interacts with the staff is lovely and also adds to some of the books most heartwarming moments.
A must for crazy cat people everywhere! -
This book made me laugh, and it made me cry - what more could you want from a book?
Touching and heart-warming, I loved it. Felix as seen by her colleagues, friends and family.
A little ray of sunshine in a bleak world.
Read it, you'll be glad you did. -
This was a delightful book about a cat who is employed by Huddersfield railway station. Two lads used to kick about ideas about things to introduce to the workplace and one of their ideas was to get a kitten. They sneakily introduced the kitten once the manager opposed to the idea was on secondment. Everyone (well almost) fell in love with the kitten and wanted to be a friend. They bought toys and treats.
The kitten had a wonderful way of creating a positive workplace atmosphere so that the staff were looking forward to coming to work every day. She found favourite places to sleep no matter how inconvenient it might be to other people. Two of the lads would kick a toy down a corridor for her to chase (not sure how that would go down in most workplaces mind you!).
She came into contact with some customers who changed their travel plans and there was a very touching scene where an autistic boy travelled to see her.
I loved the daily interactions with the staff , the customers and the cat. I wondered at points whether the cat was still at Huddersfield- but I looked up her facebook page and she's still working and living there. Like other travellers I may be tempted to visit the station at some point- it sounds like a wonderful building and the added bonus of maybe spotting the cat would be lovely. -
When the team at Huddersfield railway station decided to get a cat, little did they know she would change their lives forever. I've followed Felix on social media for years and her antics never fail to raise a smile. This book gets all the stars for Felix alone and for the feelgood factor of her story.
-
I have to say that when I started reading this thought it wasn't going to be for me. The narration was simplistic, a bit repetitive at times & the overall feel was a bit cutesy but it was so hard not to be charmed by Felix & her antics. The writing style made it an easy & quick read & I think even people who are not particularly cat lovers would be captivated by Felix.
A delightful story...& as a Huddersfield lass, I must admit by the end I did feel a sense of pride welling up that Felix is our cat :o) -
Opening: If you go down to Huddersfield station in Yorkshire, you may be in for a big surprise … For greeting you at the ‘Customer Information and Assistance’ point, waiting patiently to attend to customer enquiries, might not be a bright young woman or a helpful old man dressed in the purple-and-navy uniform of TransPennine Express. Instead, the team member on duty may be Felix, the Huddersfield station cat.
Episodic in nature, and adorable if you like to send your pussy out to work.

The start of the story of felix the huddersfield railway station cat and how she has a personality of her own and her own fb page. Found the book very easy to read would suit cat lovers

I wouldn’t read this kind of book. At all. But a patient I care about a lot is a cat lover just like I myself and we’ve always bonded over our love for cats. During a stay in the hospital she read this and decided to give it to me and I was utterly touched. I hardly ever read recs and I don’t like being gifted with books unless I specifically chose them, but this was such a nice gesture that I HAD to read it to honour my patient.
So... I don’t want to be the arsehole giving a bad review to a book of a cute cat being myself a rampant cat lover, but I will. The cat is indeed adorable, but the book is absolutely dreadful. Is honestly, about NOTHING at all, and it becomes so tedious to read pages and pages of then cat walked this direction and then decided to walk that other way. Woah!! Wild!!! Unnecessary and super detailed descriptions of everything make this book exhausting, like when the cat goes missing and it’s an entire page listing places after places they checked and it wasn’t there. Get to the point, Lady! It’s like turning a book with language for 5 years old into a novel, as if because the audience is cat lovers we’re kind of cute and dumb idk.
So it’s not the story itself, there’s obviously some content there but this story-telling style is beyond exhausting.
Have you ever had to turn a paper in but you’re not reaching the minimum word count required so you try to come up with stuff to make the paper longer? Well, this book feels like your reading that paper: you’re constantly feeling that every sentence was a struggle for the author, trying to come up with words and words to fill up as many pages as she could.
I feel there might have been other ways to tell this story, in a more dynamic and engaging way and not 260 pages of “and then Felix climbed this chair and deciding it wasn’t nice, she sat in the other chair.”
I’m sorry Felix. It’s definitely not you, I’ll probably follow you in Facebook. You deserved much better.
Two starts, because I don’t want to be so heartless. But it would be one just for Felix. -

Back in the day, all the railway stations had railway cats. Garath and Andy both work at Huddersfield train station in Yorkshire. To pass the time and scare away boredom while on shift the pair passes around ideas on ways to make the station better. When one day one of their ideas take on a whole life of its own and before anyone knows it, things are being put in place to make it happen. What is this idea? A railway cat. When Felix arrives at the station at only eight weeks old, nobody is prepared for life-changing effects one little cat can have on an entire station.
I got this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Now I am a huge cat lover, I have had cats my whole life and I love books about Cats, my favourite being the series following Alfie the Doorstep Cat as this reminds me so much of my little furry friend, so seeing this book and hearing all about it made me very excited, however, I must say I got halfway through the book and nothing seemed to be happening, the cat had gone to the station yet the story didn't seem to be progressing after that. I must admit I did give up on this book. I just couldn't imagine it getting any better.
I have chosen to give this book a single star out of five as I couldn't finish it. I wouldn't recommend it nor would I attempt to finish it. I feel a bit let down as I had heard so many good reviews on this book but I myself could not get into it.

3.5ish stars. Review Taken From
The Pewter Wolf
When Huddersfield Train Station decided to get a railway cat for their station, they had no idea how the tiny fluffy kitten will affect their lives and the lives of their passengers. From helping a child come out of his shell to providing comfort to a runaway child, Felix changed everyone's lives. But it's a chance friendship with a commuter that brings Felix into the media spotlight and international stardom.
I follow Felix the Huddersfield Cat on Facebook (not sure how I discovered this fan page, truth be told!) and love it. So when this was chosen, I was a little thrilled. And it was a fun read - what I expected. It was fun, gentle, candy floss read. Something you can read on the beach during the summer holidays. There is a few sad moments but it feels very heartwarming.
I do have some issues with this. Mainly, the writing style. I couldn't gel with it. It was as if the author couldn't decide who they were writing for. For an adult audience (on NetGalley, this is under the category of "General Fiction (Adult)") or for a younger, child friendly audience. At times, the writing felt confusing over target audience.
But cat lovers and fans of Felix will love reading this on a train with their cup of coffee on their morning commute. -
Surprising, entertaining, interesting and even sometimes an emotional read. This book chronicles the fascinating life and times (thus far) of Felix the Railway Cat. Her arrival has an astonishing impact on her new colleagues when she joined the team working at Huddersfield Railway Station. An influence which is felt far and wide, from the local Huddersfield community to the world via social media. Who knew one being could achieve all that she has (so far). I really enjoyed all the behind the scenes workings of the railway station. I’m addicted to her Facebook page now too. I guess the only thing to do now is make the pilgrimage to Huddersfield Station and try to meet her.
In a random note, I’m a train driver in London and my guinea pigs have been known to accompany me to work (on the occasional night shift). -
Its a very slow tale for Felix. I'm sure she'd have been able to tell it with a bit more enthusiasm if she could leave her platform 1 post. It seemed to take ages and ages for Felix to be with us. The author explains every little detail and in some books that totally works but in this one , it took away the will to read leading to a two star review.
-
A bit slow to start, but turned out to be probably the cutest book I've ever seen.

I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. I've followed Felix (and now Bolt) on Facebook for a couple of years so I wanted to read the book. Honestly, most of the time these books are very thin on incident. This one is in a way, but author Moore does a lot with what's really very little by using a little creative writing, excellent detail, and most of all, bringing all the station workers to the forefront. I'd love to meet them all-- and Felix, of course! But this is really a fun little book and quite well done. Good job!
-
The last two books I read before Felix the Railway Cat, involved females with PTSD and nasty flashbacks of horrible things they had endured. I decided I needed something totally different- this certainly fit the bill!
Some of the staff at Huddersfield Station decided they needed a cat. After a long campaign it was agreed that a 'Pest Controller' would be a good addition to the staff. We follow Felix from a tiny new-born kitten to her current status as Star of TV, Theatre, Facebook and of course her home at the Station!
An enjoyable gentle read that was exactly what was needed. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers I have now joined her followers on Facebook! -
I confess I’m now a little in love with Felix. I was a bit dubious about starting this as I’ve read quite a number of cat based books and with the exception of a few I’ve been disappointed. They either try and oversell the “special” qualities (that aren’t so special) or end on a sad note. This is quite a simple story and to begin with felt a bit repetitive and I thought oh no here we go! However I was soon sucked in and wanted to know more about Felix and how she settled in as a station cat. They tell her story in a way that shows she’s actually quite an ordinary cat, and many times I thought one of mines done that or would be more than capable of doing that. The story of the run away child actually had me well up a bit which happens very rarely with books. I am now a follower on Facebook and instagram and look forward to seeing and hearing more about her.

-
A quick, gentle read which I enjoyed except for the part where Felix gets dressed up. I don't approve of dressing animals up to make them look like humans. They are beautiful as they are and should be allowed to keep their natural dignity.

This was exactly the right antidote to the winter book blues. Made me smile.
