When I sing a song in my head, the monster can’t ever hear me.
When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide and seek, the monster can’t ever find me.
The darkness should frighten me.
I should worry I’ll find more monsters…monsters scarier than him.
But I’m not afraid.
It’s safe here.
When I’m inside of my head…
He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me.
Whispers and the Roars Reviews

I have to admit that this book really took me by surprise. I took the advice of several friends and went into this one blind. When the big twist was revealed, I was shocked! I didn't see it coming -- at all.
With that being said, I am going to do my best not to give too much away in my review. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. It really is worth reading and experiencing on your own.
This book tells the story of Kady and Yeo, childhood loves that are separated by time and circumstance. Yeo leaves Kady, at her urging, to go to college. He has a promising future ahead of him and the support of his parents behind him.
Kady's life couldn't have been more different from Yeo's. She's survived unimaginable child abuse, only to be left severely scarred emotionally. She loves Yeo enough to want what is best for him, even if it means pushing him away. She doesn't see the beauty and worth in herself that Yeo does.
When Yeo completes medical school years later, he returns to his hometown. He is determined to reclaim the girl that he never could forget. No matter how hard she resists, he will work to win her over again. He knows that they belong together, even if his family doesn't understand.
Right away I was smitten with Yeo. I wanted Kady to open her eyes and see how much this guy loved her. As the story progressed, several things took place that made me question his loyalties to her. There were some very intimate moments between Yeo and Kady's best-friend that did not sit well with me.
To top it all off, Yeo's family seemed to have a real dislike for Kady at first. I thought for sure that they would just torment this girl because she didn't lead the wealthy privileged lifestyle that they did. I wasn't sure that this was something that Yeo and Kady could overcome.
Everything comes to a head when Yeo plans a dinner party for his family to meet Kady's. Holy hell! Things got crazy! I could not believe what transpired! I was shocked, but I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time. I could just picture all of their faces as the events played out. -- Awesome! Just, awesome!
In the end, I was satisfied with how things worked out. This ended up being a great story. It isn't very often that I'm that surprised by a book. However, this one got me. I didn't see it coming in a million years. It was original, heartwarming and engaging. I thought it was fantastic.

***SPOILER FREE REVIEW***
'Whispers and the Roars' was such a fantastic, unique read. It was dark-ish, addictive, fantastically written and oh, my…so intriguing. If you are like me and love books that portray mental illnesses, then you don’t want to miss this one. K. Webster delivered an authentic story, in every possible way, that sucked me in from the very beginning. This story of unconditional love and dedication will leave you breathless, will make you think and feel, will make you believe in love, REAL LOVE.
“The darkness should frighten me. I should worry I’ll find more monsters… monsters scarier than him. But I’m not afraid. It’s safe here. When I’m inside of my head… He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me.”
While the premise was nothing new to me, since in the past I’ve read several books with similar premises, I enjoyed this one and I truly think the author did a wonderful job not only giving us a deeper understanding of human psyche, clearly doing a lot of research, but also in some way teaching us something meaningful – what means to be loyal and compassionate, to be a friend, to be a lover, to love unconditionally and so much more. Needless to say, K. Webster’s newest release was educational as it was eye-opening.
“I love her. Plain and simple. You can’t snuff out the blazing flames of love. Soulmates don’t simply drift apart. Twelve years has done nothing to change the way I feel about her. The time with us separated is over. No more hiding. No more avoidance. No more denying our complicated relationship. I’m going to make this right again.”
One of the theme here, like I mentioned above is unconditionally love. Love is everything in this story. Love can make everything better and love can heal you. The two main characters, Kady and Yeo were fantastically portrayed, endearing and had so much depth, their story being equally heartbreaking and heartwarming. I’m not gonna say much about Kady, just that she’s a complex, well layered character I loved reading about, even if her story saddened me very much, breaking my heart over and over again. As for Yeo, he was such an amazing hero. Trust me when I say, he was a HERO in every way that is, in every way that matters. He was simply wonderful! Sweet, protective, loyal, considerate, Yeo was everything I love in a hero, so yeah, he melted me from the inside out.
What to expect reading this one…besides the epic love between the two main characters? Expect a twisted story line, interesting SUPPORTING CHARACTERS, an unconventional, yet beautiful love story that will warm your heart, a story that will steal your heart and capture your mind.
“He helps her fight on the outside. And we wage war on the inside. Our love is difficult but it’s ours and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.”
The pace of the story was fantastic, perfect for such an enthralling read and I have to say I love the multiple POV, . Every single one of this POVs were well done, engaging in their own way and left me wanting more as the story unfolded.
Overall, 'Whispers and the Roars' was an intriguing, complex tale, with an interesting premise and great themes that you definitely should try if you are looking for something…unconventional, consuming and of without a doubt, though-provoking. Open you heart and mind before starting this one and most of all, go in blind.
“No whispers. No roars. Nothing.”

4 Roars
I almost opened a bottle of vodka at 2 a.m. You will probably consider doing something similar when you read this, so get ready! I was totally unprepared for the story that was waiting for me inside the pages of this book! Word of warning: beginning this book right before bed isn’t the best idea. I wound up reading all night long. I was so caught up in the story that I didn’t want to put it down, so I didn’t until I literally passed out and it landed on the floor! How my kindle still works is a wonder to me!
Whispers and the Roars was nothing like I thought it was going to be. If you think you know what this story is going to be about, trust me, you have no idea! You have to go into this one completely blind. For that reason, this review was difficult for me to write. I can’t tell you much about the book, because almost anything I say about the plot will spoil it. Talking about my opinion and/or feelings about the things that happen will also spoil it. Don’t ask your friends who have read it to give you spoilers, because it will ruin the whole experience for you. Just sit back and enjoy the ride!
This is the story of two people, Kady and Yeo, and their beautiful, unreserved, and unyielding love for one another. In the beginning, we learn that Kady and Yeo had been in a serious relationship until Yeo went off to college without Kady at her insistence. In her heart, she truly felt that her being with him was holding him back.
Now that he has his degree, he is coming home to reclaim her with the intention of making her his wife. His love for her has never wavered over the years, and neither has hers for him. Despite that, Kady still thinks that Yeo is too good for her."You weren’t supposed to come back, stupid man."
Yeo is a brave, selfless, determined, and loving man. He is sure to melt your heart. The love he has for Kady is unconventional and unconditional. He is her lover, her protector, and her very best friend."I love you at your best and I love you at your worst. I love every single part of you. I always have and always will".
Kady is fragile and broken, but she loves Yeo with every fiber of her being. He understands her like no one else. Sending him away from her was done with only his interest in mind. Now that he is back, she is ready to admit that she needs him in her life. If it were only that simple…..
You might be thinking this sounds like something you have heard before. At first, I did, too. Believe me when I tell you this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what goes on in this story. It is unlike anything else I have ever read. Go into it with an open mind free from expectations, and see it through to the end before you make any judgements. There will be things that happen as you read that you won’t quite understand or don’t make sense, but keep going. It will all become clear soon enough.
As with most of this author’s books, this will not be for everyone. There is some disturbing elements, but to me they weren’t that bad. However, if you have triggers for abuse of any kind, this is probably not the book for you."You are strange and terrifying and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love."-Warsan Shire
Whispers and the Roars both warmed my heart and broke it. It entertained me, toyed with my mind, made me cringe, made me smile, and kept me guessing. In short, I really enjoyed it! Why 4 stars instead of five? I had a few problems with it, but unfortunately, I can't discuss them, because it will give too much away. Overall, this was still an incredible story.
Once again, another book by K. Webster has made me wish that I could be inside her head for just one day. The things that she comes up with and writes about boggle my mind. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I read Sweet Jayne in September, and since then have read everything she has written that I can get my hands on. I will continue to do so until I have devoured every last drop of her dark genius. Whenever I read one of her stories, I know that I am in for a crazy ride, and this one was no exception!
This is not a book that you will soon forget. If I can assure you of anything, it is that. Whispers and the Roars is an intricately woven and expertly executed story that will have an impact on you whether you like it or not. The characters are interesting, exceptional, and multi-faceted. The plot will have you scratching your head, clutching your heart, and glued to the page. Intriguing, thought provoking, and unique, this is one you don’t want to miss!

AMAZING...simply one of THE best books I have read all year.
This review is going to be fairly short. This is a book that needs to be experienced without any preconceived notions. You need to go into this one with an open mind and an open heart. You need to take your time and savor every little morsel this author lays on your plate. Then you need to break it open and suck it's very marrow out. It is THAT good.
These characters will tear your heart out and then piece it back together. No, it's not an easy subject matter. It will be hard. It hit VERY close to home for me, and I spent 99% of the book with tears in my eyes. It was sad, it was agonizing, it was uplifting, it was beautiful, and it was my absolute HONOR to be given an ARC of this one.
This is one amazingly special and stunning book. My advice to you...READ IT. -

”You are terrifying and strange and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love.”
K. Webster is truly talented at writing the really dark stories but she also has proven to be quite a versatile author. Never pigeon-holing herself into one genre. Whispers and the Roars definitely has its dark elements but it is also a story about true unconditional love…something that only exists in fairy tales.
I really didn’t pay attention to the blurb and it actually made the book that much more enjoyable for me. It wasn’t anything that I would ever have expected, so I advise you all to skim over the blurb and reviews. It is truly best to go into this one without having any preconceived notions. I kind of figured out what was going on right before the halfway mark as I am sure most of you will.
I’ll give a brief sum up. Kady and Yeo have been childhood friends and sweethearts since they were in elementary school. Kady’s home life was extremely horrific and she had been severely abused by her father for many years. The poor girl has endured things that no innocent child should ever have to be subjected to, but the one loving constant in her life was the beautiful boy next door, Yeo. Yeo loved Kady despite all of her complexities and always acted as her protector, till one day she pushes him away. Kady didn’t want Yeo to sacrifice his life for her when he had the ability to go off to college and make something of himself. The two end up separated for twelve years but now Yeo is back in town. He’s become a doctor and Yeo is back to claim his sweet “Katydid”. Nothing and no one is going to get in his way, not even Kady!
I really loved Yeo!! I rarely get to read about a Hero who is half Korean and half White like me and the fact that Yeo was, turned out to be the icing on the cake for me!! There was one aspect that I kind of found uncomfortable because it’s a subject matter I try to avoid at all costs but the special circumstances of this story made it easier for me to bear.
Whispers and the Roars is currently available! K. Webster fans are going to really enjoy this one and for those who haven’t read her yet and can tolerate really traumatizing subject matter, should definitely add this to your TBRs.

Well it’s official. I just got off the crazy train and let me tell you on that ride, that chick did NOT make any local stops! I went from being severely confused to the point where I honestly thought I was going crazy my damn self, to flipping the pages at warped speed because I had to know if the theories that I had circling in my brain were right, or if I needed more alcohol.
“Our love is difficult but it’s ours and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. “
Everyone knows by now that I LOVE me some dark twisty reads and if I’m clutching my hair half through the story while drinking straight from the bottle, I consider this book a winner. Now after reading this, I can safely say that I need a therapist because what was supposed to be a shock factor for others, had me rubbing my hands together in excitement because I figured out the plot.
Now I know you’re thinking: if you’ve figured it out, how did you enjoy it still? Well they don’t call K.Webster the Queen of Dark for nothing! Her ability to take this story and turn it into her own unique EFFEDUPNESS (yes that is a word) was what made this one different for me and I liked that.
“I don’t care about what they think or what they say. All I care about is you. Learn it. Memorize it. Don’t fucking forget it..
There’s a saying that “Love Conquers All” and I never truly took the time to analyze that quote and say to myself: That’s true. After reading this, not only do I understand it, I’m now a firm believer of it. Sometimes we have a moment where we feel there’s a darkness within us and there’s no escaping it no matter what we do. It feeds off of us and it can snuff out our light that we tried so hard to make the brightest one possible. This is what it’s like for Kadence Marshall and the love of her life Yeo. Torn apart by distance but reunited by an unconditional love that never wavered for neither of them is what made this love story like no other.
“I love you at your best and I love you at your worst. I love every single part of you. I always have and I always will. I even love the parts I hate about you.
I know that I'm being extremely vague with this review but there’s no other way to go about it. You HAVE to go into this completely blind and leave your reservations at the door because it has no place in this story. Did I love everything about it? No. I found certain scenes left me in a state of not quite comprehending certain things in a way that I should have but that’s just me. Yeo and Kady’s connection and their devotion to one another definitely made up for everything else.
So if you’re thinking about reading any sort of spoilers, DO NOT DO IT! Step away from the review boards, spoiler groups, CNN, NBC, ABC, DEF, the whole alphabet or wherever the heck you get your news from, and just sit back and enjoy this one.
You want to a mind fuck? This one is most definitely for you. Please drink responsibly. You’ve been warned.

* A story that captures your heart and doesn't let go, and you continue thinking about it long after you fall asleep. *
WHISPERS AND ROARS: There is a trigger warning attached to this book so it's advised to proceed with caution, it's graphic and not glossed over, it's dark, its gritty, it's dirty, it's raw and it's not for the faint of heart. Go in with an open mind, This is by no means your typical romance story.
Told in 'Dual Perspectives' (Kady & Yeo) and flows from 'Past to Present' flawlessly.
I'm going to try and make this as spoiler free as I possibly can, the only advice I can really say is keep an open mind throughout, because to understand all of Kady's quirks, what makes her tick, you need to understand all of her, and to get to that point you need to wade through the darkest parts of her to find her.
We're introduced to Kady a broken down twenty nine year old female who lives in fear, a daily struggle fighting her demons such as depression and PTSD among other disorders which see her living as a recluse. The only time she can silence the roars in her head is when she sits at her piano and lets the music flow through her soul calming her thoughts.
Then we're introduced to Yeo who has been in love with Kady Marshall since he was ten years old. An extension of himself, every waking moment is spent thinking about her, his soulmate. She sent him away thinking she wasn't good enough for him and would hold him back from his dreams. Now he's back for good and he's coming to lay claim to her again and this time he's not letting go.
I love when Kady is...Kady. No past. No stress. No fear. Simply Kady.
This is slow to begin with but at about the halfway mark the story picks up momentum and soars from there, like clouds that have cleared in the sky everything starts to make sense, things you didn't understand in the beginning that had you questioning things finally get answered. This wasn't an easy read, it wasn't the darkest or grittiest read I've read but it was consuming I can't even put into words the emotional torment this author drowned me in.
There will be characters that you'll be introduced to that you'll despise, but then there will be a few that will melt your heart. There is nothing typical about this story, it's unconventional, it will have you looking at things in a new light. Enjoy the ride.
Bones, Whiskers, Officer Joe, Agatha, Norman, Kenneth, Presley, Aunt Suzy, and Pascale.
This put me through the wringer, literally, it's f#cked up, it f#cks with your mind, it's a clusterf#ck of a sh#tstorm that you can't see the light of day through, it makes you question your own freaking sanity for sitting back and enjoying this ride so much. It makes you wonder and question what in the f#ckery did you just read!! None of this story made sense, but at the end of it the roars turned into whispers.
Yep pretty much me after reading this!!
* GAH after this I'm seriously seeking therapy!! I hated it but loved it, slow but it soared in the middle. Gets my 5 stars because who other than this author can think up the shit in this book lol..I need booze!!, I'm grabbing this author by the hair and she's coming to therapy too, better yet she can run the class!! lol *

This is probably one of the most difficult reviews I've ever had to write because I have so much that I want to say and rave about, but I can't without spoiling the book. Just know that I absolutely loved this book, and will definitely be re-reading it in the future. The characters were amazing and I found myself feeling so much emotion for characters that I didn't think I would.
I feel like K Webster really did something unique with this story and I loved every second of it. She had me so invested in the lives of these characters and I felt so much I thought my heart would literally break in half. The story flows effortlessly between Kady and Yeo's past and their present and there wasn't one moment where I wasn't captivated by their lives. I broke plans for this book, missed dinner, and didn't sleep all night because I was so invested in this book.
What the fuck will be on a continues loop through your mind while you read this book and you should be prepared to question everything you think you know. If I can give you one piece of advice for going into this book it's to stay very open minded. Bottom line, this book needs to be read. It didn't have a big romance aspect to it but the relationship Yeo and Kady have is heartbreakingly beautiful. I hope many people will give this book a chance and love it as much as I did.

I struggled with how to review this. It says in the blurb that you should go in blind, that it's best enjoyed when you don't read any reviews or spoilers before reading. I never take this advice, so of course I read the reviews. Unfortunately, all the reviews I found were spoiler free and seemed to follow the whole theme of I went in blind; you should too! which I found super annoying. Still, it sounded like something that would speak to my dark-loving heart, and I was intrigued, so I forged ahead.
First, let me say that I think there should be a separate warning for sexual abuse involving a child. This is a personal opinion, but I firmly believe this. Telling me there are "strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress" applies to most dark erotica, but that does not mean I'm prepared to read about child abuse, especially that of a sexual nature.
That being said, the abuse is actually a very small part of the book, and it is more about the aftermath.
Now, about the book... I'm obviously in the minority here. It's well-written. K. Webster's talented for sure, but to start, I just couldn't feel Yeo and Kady's relationship. He was super supportive, said all the right things, and treated her like spun glass, but the reality of what's going on in her mind makes things a bit more difficult. It changed the entire tone of the book for me--going from deep and sad to silly and ridiculous. I felt like those scenes made a mockery of what is an actual disorder.
Beyond the explanation for the cause of Kady's mental problems, given in flashbacks, the book isn't really all that dark. It lacked any kind of suspense, and I found it a bit slow. I felt sorry for Kady...that was it--200+ sympathy inducing pages. -

Psst.. Do you hear it? Do you hear the whispers? The roars? The sounds of my heart beating wildly as I yell how amazing, poignant, and breathtakingly beautiful this book is? If you can hear the rumblings and whisperings of why K. Webster needs to be on your book radar then you know what book I am talking about. That’s right Whispers and the Roars is the book that has truly elevated and made her an author who has not only delivered an epic love story but a story that is unforgettable as every character and raw emotion will be coursing through your veins.
“The darkness should frighten me. I should worry I’ll find more monsters… monsters scarier than him. But I’m not afraid. It’s safe here. When I’m inside of my head… He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me.”
It’s no secret that I am huge fan of K. Webster. Okay, I am a stalker and she knows it and I secretly think she loves it. Before I go off tangent, I want to let readers know that Whispers and the Roars is by far one of the best books that she has written. This book had depth, vulnerability, a bit of darkness thrown into the mix and yet had that emotionally pull that will have you yearning for more.
Unconditional love is biggest message that K. Webster whispers and roars in the story of Kady and Yeo. I can go on and on about how amazing Yeo is but it still wouldn’t give this character any justice because Yeo is a hero in every sense of the word. He is perfection. He is light. He is truth. He is understanding. He is a protector. He is a friend. He is a lover. And most importantly, he is the voice of reasoning and the missing piece in Kady.
I know that I am being super vague about what this book entails but trust me you need to go read this book blind. Trust in K. Webster as she guides you into the darkness, the madness, and into the light. Yes, this is an unconventional love story but it is a story that will make you wish you had a Yeo of your own as he scrapbooks, whispers, roars, and tells a story of LOVE.
The writing was superb. Each word, characters and raw emotions were meticulously and flawlessly incorporated to give this book a deeper meaning of unconditional love. Yes, love can hurt and be imperfect but they way K. Webster showed us how far a man will go for love is the biggest roar and testament of them all. Love doesn’t need to be loud. It can be a tiny whisper that can roar and be felt. And boy oh boy did I feel the rumblings of K.Webster’s heart as she pours her soul and gave life to these characters.
Whispers and the Roars is a literary canvas that paints a heartrending, poignant, dark, and beautiful tale on love and sacrifices. From the opening pages to the very last page, you will hear, feel, live, and breathe for these characters. So are you ready to hear the sounds of love? Because I will just say K. Webster will play a beat that will be echoing for a long time. Hear K. Webster roar as she stamps her way into your literary heart.

Wow! I'm speechless right now... This was freaking awesome. I LOVED it soooo much and from now on Yeo is one my book boyfriends. Such an amazing and brave man. <3
K.Webster, thank you so much for this story. Just like your other books, you mind fucked me again. What can I say, you never disappoints me. :-D -
BR with the lovely Cassandra
I’m that asshole that sometimes likes to read the last page sometimes. This time I’m glad I didn’t because this is one you definitely want to go into blind.
Kady’s family is so quirky and odd, they remind me of something that I can’t quite put my finger on. Yeo’s family on the other hand are a bunch of judgmental assholes.
But Yeo knows exactly what he wants and he’ll do whatever it takes to get the girl and keep her happy.
It’s pretty beautiful that he became a psychologist for her.
What in the world is going on with the dynamic between them and Bones?
Ok this thing with Bones just gets more and more confusing. I think I know what’s going on though.
Once you figure it out you realize just how clever Ms. Webster is.
The biggest surprise was the cat, I don’t think anyone would’ve seen that coming.
Overall a great read. Super surprising with an out of this world cast of characters. I will say the plot felt a little bogged down at times, dragged a little. But still super sweet and emotional. -
Kady. Kady. Kady. I miss her. Jesus Christ, how I miss her.
“Kady,” I whisper. She loves it when I whisper. “Come back to me.”
Yeo has been in love with Kady, since they were children.
They also had a best friend: The incredible, shirtless, cheetos’lover Bones.
Together they were the “Terrible Three” who were fighting together to keep the bad guys away – especially the one bad guy who was torturing little Kady at nights.
Many years after, Kady sends Yeo away. She is a burden for him. He needs to run away and be successful and be whole without being dragged down by Kady. Yeo does not want to leave her, but thankfully Bones is around and he will always look after Kady.
When Yeo becomes a doctor and comes back home, he is absolutely certain that he will never again leave Kady alone.
He needs her. She needs him.
There is so much love between these two. Pure, unconditional magnificent love. ().
“You weren’t supposed to come back, stupid man.”
“I was always coming back, Kadydid.”
This is a weird book and honestly if there is one book that deserves to be read without spoilers, it is this book. I started reading it without reading any reviews. I have to admit that I could not stop until I reached the final page.
I had so many questions in the beginning and I was so confused. And as the story was proceeding with flashbacks from the past, I continued having more questions than answers.
Everything become clear before the end of the book and make the story more devastating. Everything I thought I had figured them out, I had not really understand them.
And yes, I had to go back and read again to make sure that these things really happened.
If I had to choose my favorite character from the book, it would be Bones. Really strong, but emotionally fragile at the same time. Caring, loyal and protective.
This is a book that I will certainly remember for a long time.
My favourite book so far by K.Webster. -
I love this author. She's not afraid of writing really messed up stuff and allowing the dark side to come out on top, but this just left me with a knot in my gut and a heavy heart. I really thought it would be a win for me. I liked the premise of Whispers and the Roars, but not necessarily the execution of it.
Some stuff was more weird and harder to take than others. I'm not giving spoilers away, but the romantic relationship was not even explored much. The details were brushed over and I did not feel the h and H’s connection. I found their relationship not developed enough and I just felt nothing for them. The suspense part was the worst, to be honest. It was not interesting and it didn't grab me.
The writing was good, but the story felt underdeveloped and rushed. The book had high potential, but just didn't do it for me!

"This book is best enjoyed when you don't know what is going to happen." Says the author.
"LIES!" Says me
Seriously what the heck did I just read? Well, I'll tell you since the reviews told me nothing. I'm going to full on spoil this entire book so if you don't like surprises, don't read my review because I always use spoilers.
The beginning seemed interesting. I thought it was about a girl with a bad past living with some family members in a kind of run down house where they are constantly tight on money. The girl, Kady, had a teenage romance with a guy named Yeo who left for college and it was kind of a Romeo and Juliet thing since his parents didn't want him being with her.
Well, he leaves for twelve years and comes back, but during the twelve years, he did try to contact Kady since it was her who wanted him to go because she thought she would ruin him. Whenever he called, he would get all these other people answering the phone besides Kady. One of them being their childhood friend Bones, or some girl named Agatha who I think was Kady's grandma?
Kady spends her days at home teaching piano and worrying if Norman, her dad, is going to come back.
Seems interesting I guess. The story moves quick with Yeo coming back and wanting Kady to come to a last minute dinner with him and his family even though he knows his family does not like her, He instead gets the run around from Bones, but later sees Kady and they finally reunite after twelve years.
Dinner sucks and she runs off, but he comes back and reminds her they are good together and not to worry about his family. He later decides to have another family dinner, but this time with Kady's family so his family can better understand her.
Seems boring. Like a couple worried about other people and trying to make a relationship work, right?
Well before dinner, he asks Kady if she is going to be there. Weird question to ask, right? Then something about showing them a book which Kady is not sure of. Then Agatha makes dinner but does not show up for the dinner.
Kady does and it all goes okay until Norman comes and carves up the new table Yeo bought for Kady's family. And everyone is just sitting there while this guy carves up a table and then the guy goes upstairs.
Crazy right?
Yeo follows suit and sees Agatha who comes downstairs and learns of Norman coming back out of nowhere for that particular dinner, then Bones shows up. Well, where is Kady I bet you're wondering? She's there.
Yep, she's there and so is Bones, Norman and Agatha, Yep. All there, but there's just Yeo, his family, and Kady there. Did I confuse you? Let me explain.
This book is about Kady who has nine alters, as in, nine different personalities because she's so messed up after childhood abuse from her father Norman. Bones is a guy who supposedly is a childhood friend, but is really the start of her nine splits since childhood. After Kady pushed Yeo away for him to go to college, Yeo kept in contact with Kady's alters by talking to Kady who was taken over by whoever of the nine chose to pop out.
He and Bones had an intimate relationship as well, which was just Kady, but not really because Yeo wanted to just be with Kady without the hassle of Bones, but Bones was developing feelings for him so Kady told Yeo to sleep with Bones again one last time. Which is really just Kady.
Anyways, Yeo's family is confused but his parents question him about Kady's care and what he is going to do for her. He thinks since he went to college to be a doctor, he alone can help her. But he does call an old friend to be his partner in the practice they are going to open. This guy also helps Kady with her alters.
Since there are three bad alters that hurt Kady, they work to get rid of them and since Bones was her main protector, they also have to work to fix him or something.
The whole thing was a cluster f-. I thought it was going to be another dark romance where a girl living in a run-down house was taken and you know, the usual.
I don't think this is disturbing like a lot of others seem to think. It is f- up though and confusing. -
So, I love K.Webster and her War & Peace series but this story is just too messy for me. I don't get it. The characters are so fucked up, it's not even funny. One says that and then does the other. The drama, too much. I skimmed more or less through the whole story, since I couldn't connect with the plot and characters. In the end I simply didn't even care what happens to them. I know there is a lot of abuse that happened in the past and that leads to the heroines bahaviour but for fucks sake! She's truly crazy! I mean, what the actual fuck! To aks that of the man you supposedly love?! Just no! And then what happens between them (the OM)!!! Nope! I was so done by then. The emotions are all over the place and as I said, I just didn't give a damn anymore. They could just do what they wanted but for me that's not healthy true love! Also, I felt really bad for Bones. I mean they just toyed with him and his emotions! Yeo says he doesn't wants to do the things he does with him, then at one point wants to cut him out of his relationship with her and then what happens? They end up making a bigger mess and again Yeo simply screws with Bones (literally). I'm so done with this story.
This is not a read I enjoyed and I hope in the future I will find a story from this author that will make me feel the things I felt when I read War & Peace. -
I've said it before and I'll say it again K. Webster is one hell of a gifted writer. Just when you have an inkling of what's going on, the plot thickens and you find out quickly, you didn't know squat! Whispers and Roars is a one of a kind mind fuckery, and not for the feint of heart.
With Kady, I can never relax. With Kady, my life is a constant roar. With Kady, nothing is easy. -
3.5 Stars
I always expect the unexpected when it comes to K. Webster. I'm never sure what I'm gonna get. This is just one of those stories that you must go into knowing very little. Although I love these kinds of storylines, it doesn't impact me much the way it did when I first read these kinds of stories.
This book is unique, it'll make you think, it has a great pace, awesome characters and a beautiful love story. I definitely recommend it:) -

First and foremost, I NEED to state how incredibly gifted K. Webster is. If you haven't read anything from her before, I really don't know what you're waiting for. I really, really don't.
Seriously. Do it NOW!! You really have no idea what you're missing out on. I'm so grateful that I happened to stumble upon Kristi's
Dirty Ugly Toy in March and I fully intend to make my way through each and every one of her books. They're that freaking spectacular!!
Okay, back to the book. Whispers and the Roars is more than a dark romantic tale about Kadence and Yeo. It's far more than twisted and suspenseful. This story is a mindfck of epic proportions! At one point I had to ask myself, "Natalie, are you OK?" My mind was utterly blown and I felt adrift for a moment. But nothing... and I mean NOTHING was going to keep me away from finishing this book."We've never really made sense to anyone, you and I, but to me we make perfect sense." - Yeo
The love found in this story is profound. I can only hope to find someone capable of the love that Yeo has for Kadence (and she for him). It was deep, consuming, earth-shattering, life-altering, remarkable, rare, radical and fundamental. To call his love a thing of beauty would be an understatement."I love you at your best and I love you at your worst. I love every single part of you. I always have and always will. I even love the parts I hate about you." - Yeo
Read this book. Seriously, read it. You want to know what it's about? Read it. Curious about what all the fuss over this story is for? Read it. Interested in who the heck are Yeo and Kadence? READ THE BOOK!! Go into it with an open mind and be prepared for the feels. Whether you dabble in darkness or are a connoisseur such as myself, I can't imagine you regretting giving this book a chance.

"You are terrifying and strange and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love." - Warsan Shire
K. Webster picked an absolutely perfect quote to preface this novel. Not only in relation to the heroine, Kady, but also about the book as a whole. It's not a story for everyone, but unless you have extreme triggers, I'd recommend giving it a chance because it is a very compelling novel.
It's hard to properly review this without giving away significant aspects of the plot, so all I'm really going to review are the two main characters. *I do want to talk about my one criticism, which is the reason for my one star deduction, but it is very spoilery. I'm going to block it off at the end and you can decide for yourself whether you want to know more.
I really liked Kady. She was very unique, and my heart broke for her about five hundred different ways. She's had a tough life and as a result is insecure and feels broken. Despite that, I never doubted her love for Yeo."Yeo is my drug. And I willingly give my biggest vein to him to inject his life into me."
There were times when it felt like dependence over love, but that's just how some relationships are, and given the particulars around their romance it's hard to expect anything else. And even though she relies on him there are still times when she fights him, when she feels like a burden and would rather set him free.
It was hard to read about her struggles, but what made it bearable was Yeo. Dear God, this man... he was perfect. I love how much he loved Kady. They were separated for twelve years... TWELVE... and he stayed faithful. He didn't stray and everything he did while he was away was to get back to her. To give Kady the best life possible. I could go on and on, but I think a couple one-liners will sum up his awesomeness."Our love is difficult but it's ours and I wouldn't change a thing about it."
"Soulmates don't simply drift apart. Twelve years has done nothing to change the way I feel about her."
"I'll do whatever it takes to have you."
"I pretty much forced my way into your life when we were kids, remember? You were too young to realize you'd befriended a stalker."
I lied. It's impossible to sum up how sweet he is or how much I loved him. Yeo is one of my favorite book boyfriends. Not only for how he is with Kady, but just what kind of man he is. There are several triggers in this book, but lack of a devoted hero is not one of them.
I really thought this was going to be a 5-star favorite. But there was one thing that didn't work for me, and unfortunately it was big enough that it knocked it down a star. Not that that's a big deal. It's still a very good book and I'd still recommend it, but I do want to touch on it.
This is a very significant spoiler!! I talk about the twist and some aspects of the ending. Personally, I didn't think the twist was that shocking; I figured it out pretty early on. But I also watch a lot of fucked up television so it's not surprising that my mind went where it did. Figuring out the twist did make it a little less suspenseful, but it also gave me a chance to focus on the character development, and to me that was a fair trade. And, as I've already mentioned, it was still a very intriguing read.
I've seen K. Webster's name floating around for almost a year, yet for some reason I never took the plunge. But I can safely say I'm glad I finally have and I can't wait to read more from this author :)"Life sometimes calls for exceptions. Love sometimes demands them."

5 ++++ ROARING stars
"Madness and chaos take over until I'm begging for my bed and peace and the one who still holds my bleeding heart in his hands. I need quiet. I need order. A reprieve from the roars. My world offers me the briefest glimpse of happiness when I'm able to silence the deafening chaos in my little town. I can survive when it's only the whispers."
Let me just start off by saying this is best book Ms. Webster has EVER WRITTEN. Just amazing. We get thrown into the story right off the bat and as the story unfolds, the book gets better and better. The hero and heroine are described in such depth that you truly feel as though you know them like the back of your hand. The supporting characters also play a crucial role in the story; each character as complex as the next.
The twist in this book was something that I DID NOT see coming. It sets this book apart from EVERY OTHER romance novel I have read. No joke, you will be shocked.
If you are a fan of dark and taboo romance novels that actually make you THINK and FEEL, then this is the book for you. -
4 -Loved It Hard- Stars
This was definitely not a jolly stroll in the park, but oh what a page-turning ride it was! Thankfully, I had my trusty BR angel,
TheresaDK to yet again, Thelma my Louise!
Surprisingly, this story was not as dark as I had initially anticipated. It's definitely not for the feint hearted or trigger-sensitive readers, but I can confidently say that those who can endure Tillie Cole's Hangmen series, would definitely be able to endure this wonderful story.
Now I'm not one to toot my own horn, but... let's take a moment to TOOT my own horn right now!!! I went into this book blind'ish and had TOTALLY guessed the plot twist from the very start! *cue the CSI soundtrack AGAIN*
I swear, with both our "sharp-as-knives", sleuthing skills combined; Theresa and I should totally think about starting our own private investigation firm... and we'd call it; "Omg, we are so clever"! Think about it, T!!! Oh look... There's blood where I accidentally cut myself... Cos WE'RE SO SHARP!!
Rest assured, figuring out the twist so early on, still did not take away from the suspense or mind-f#ckery that this book put me through. I devoured every page through the twists, mystery, suspense, tragedy, swoons, steam, heartbreak... gah! It had it all!! And the H?.... sigh.....
Heartbreakingly devoted; would be how I'd describe him. Without divulging any spoilers, I do feel the need to admit that there were some thoughts, actions and emotions involved, that made me drop a star, but I suppose without those niggly aspects; the story wouldn't have been so bloody intriguing. So I may renege on my rating in future. Ah, this story is STILL messing with my conflicted mind!!
Told in dual POV and standalone story. No more clues from me. Jewels out. -
4 stars!
So it's been a couple of weeks since I read this book and it stills manages to sneak in my mind, that's how impressed I was.
"Whispers And The Roars" has such a unique love story, one I haven't really read. I took a chance with this one I literally went without reading any reviews and that's so difficult for me, I love spoilers I'm one of those readers that just rather know what's she's getting into. Anyway I'm glad I did it because this book took me on such a wild ride of emotions.
Kady this girl broke my heart💔what she lived through no human being should ever have to go through, especially a child. But she was strong and she did what she had to do to survive. She surrounded herself with her family, the ones that were always there for her, giving her the love and protection she needed.
Yeo the most amazing man ever, her protector, her best friend who loved her unconditionally. The length of things he did for her had absolutely no limit. Once he set everything in motion that was it, nothing was going to stand in his way.
This book deals with difficult issues it definitely wasn't easy to read, but it didn't take anything away from the love between kady/Yeo, on the contrary it made it stronger. Nothing was taken for granted, the ups and downs, the laughs and tears, everything you go through with this characters is worth it.❤️ -
Go into this with an open mind. Don't prepare, just read. It's so good that way.
There a bunch of triggers. This is a very dark and very heavy read. If you enjoy dark and emotional romance, this is for you.
Hands down one of my favorite K Webster reads, and that is saying a lot since I love just about everything she does. You can tell there was so much hard work put into this one. Love :)

OH MY GOD!!!!!
I am speechless, this is book was simply AMAZING!
Well done K.Webster, well done!
This is definitely one of the best book I have read this year.
I'm so glad I went in this book without reading any reviews. I am curious by nature so I usually read some reviews before so I know a little about the story, I'm glad I didn't do it for this one. This is definitely a book you have to go in blind and with an open mind, trust me!!
Whispers and Roars will stay on my mind for a long time, the story was cleverly and beautifully written. And all the characters were fantastic, I loved them all but I sure am gonna miss my favorite Badass Motherf*cker!!!
"I crave every single facet, every broken piece of her. I want them all collected and locked away in my heart where they belong."
I won't say anything about the story but I will say is that if there ever was a perfect boyfriend Yeo is it!!
He wasn't perfect in a sweet that makes you want to barf kinda way but he was perfect for how determined, understanding and loving he was with Kady.
Whispers and Roars is a unique, emotional and dark story that you have to try!!!! -
Go in blind and push through even if you don't want to, thats what i did when i thought of DNFing it. And i'm so glad i continued on. 💔
It was so difficult and different to read but so fucking beautiful 🖤 and mindblowing LITERALLY!!!
