5.0 John Sloan was an amazing direct voice and trance medium. In this book Arthur Findlay documents the evidence of proof of survival of hundreds of people provided by spirit through the direct voice mediumship of John Sloan. In the 1931 version of this book on pages 72 to 79, a scientific explanation of how spirit chemists use ectoplasm from a physical medium and contributing circle members to create a voice box through which the spirits speak. These voices can be heard by our physical ears. What a privilege to sit in this circle and have your loved ones speak to you directly again with the sounds of their earthly voices. Extremely interesting and informative.

A LEADING ENGLISH SPIRITUALIST LOOKS AT THE "OTHER REALM”

Arthur Findlay (1883-1964) was an English/Scottish writer, accountant, stockbroker and Essex magistrate, as well as a founder of the newspaper "Psychic News" and of the International Institute for Psychical Research. He also wrote books such as 'The Rock Of Truth Of Spiritualism,' 'The Coming World Religion,' 'Looking Back: The Autobiography of a Spiritualist,' etc.

He wrote in the Foreword to this 1931 book, "In September 1924 I had printed a small book... This book contained a summary of my notes from my experiences with Mr. John C. Sloan... It, however, only contained some of my experiences which I had originally put together for an address I gave to the members of the Glasgow Society for Psychical Research... At the request of a number of those who were regular attenders... I commenced the preparation of a larger book, to contain a more exhaustive account of my experiences with this gifted medium."

He states, "The human being is composed of body, soul and spirit. The body is what we see, the soul is our mind, and the spirit is our etheric body which is an exact duplicate of our physical body. The etheric body holds our physical body together." (Pg. 25) Later, he adds, "Death can therefore be described as a severance of mind from its association with matter, and it would be illogical to conclude that mind and its vehicle, the etheric body, which have such power over matter, cease to exist when we lose sight of their organizing powers." (Pg. 44)

He asserts, "My claim for this book is that it gives an explanation, both logical and reasonable, of how the phenomenon of the Direct Voice occurs, and one which should appeal to everyone." (Pg. 78) He says, "Physical science deals with physical matter, something we can sense. Psychical science deals with etheric matter. We cannot sense etheric matter, but etherians can... not physical but etheric substance is the basic structure of the universe." (Pg. 105)

This book will be of interest mostly to those studying the history of Spiritualism.
