But the horrors of his childhood still haunt him, and Ana’s scheming boss, Jack Hyde, clearly wants her for himself. Can Christian’s confidant and therapist, Dr. Flynn, help him face down his demons? Or will the possessiveness of Elena, his seducer, and the deranged devotion of Leila, his former submissive, drag Christian down into the past?

And if Christian does win Ana back, can a man so dark and damaged ever hope to keep her?

E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.

    I'm against burning books.
People should have access to any book they want. I'm just not sure what people would use this book for? I hope they rip out the pages and blow their noses or wipe their private parts because - to be honest - it's sad to see paper wasted like this, so at least they're putting it to good use in the end.

P.S.: Toilet paper has a better plot though AND isn't sexist so if you consider buying this or toilet paper always be safe and choose the latter.

Like many, Fifty Shades Darker is my favorite book in the trilogy. Because of this, I was nervous about reading this book. There are certain scenes I needed in Christian's POV, but they had to be done just right to satisfy me. I loved being in Christian's head, but it did feel a lot like reading the original over again. Not that it's a bad thing, I adore the original. I just wish we got a few new scenes from Christian's POV. I think that would have made this that much better! Overall, I very much enjoyed listening to the audio book of Darker. Zachary Webber does a fantastic job bringing Christian to life. If you enjoy audio books, this is one I would highly recommend!

After I read this book and then I read a few reviews about this book,
I do not wish to write a review.

I just want to point out three things:

    1. You never insult other readers/reviewers who like/love/adore a book/series that you hate. Please.
    2. If you don't like the first book in the series and give a rating of 1 star, you don't have to read the second book in the series. Not much will change. So, obviously you will give 1 star again.
And if you don't like the second book in the series, you really don't have to read the third book in the series. There is no point. You only torture yourself.
And if you don't like the third book in the series, for heaven's sake, don't read the forth book in the series.
And if you still read the forth book in the series (why???), you still do not have to read the fifth book in the series. Nobody will force you. Nobody will blame you. You are free not to read it. Honestly.
Which brings me to my 3rd point.
    3. If you haven't read the above mentioned books; you seriously do not have to rate them and/or even review them.

This series has opened a new world to me. And I believe I am sensible enough to understand
-What is right and what is wrong
-What is incorrect and what is under particular standards
-What is reality and what is over the top fiction

    Thanks!

➳Christian Grey never gets old, and reading everything from his point of view makes me love him much more...

➳Loved this story! Not much can be said about it since I already knew the story itself, but reading it from his perspective has been an enlighten touch to my adoration and love for this wonderful romance novel. I cannot wait to see the movie and hopefully read FREED in Christian's perspective in the future...

    Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2018

"Her innate sensuality stems from her innocence: her willingness to experiment, and her ability to trust."

    description

    *****THREE STARS*****
    {BR with Juanita}

I'm so disappointed that I didn't end up loving this book.
I have to be honest, I skimmed through most of it. Christian was too much of a sap and desperate for Ana's affections. Actually, the both of them with the same insecurities became monotonous. Christian was constantly afraid that Ana was going to leave him again and Ana was afraid she wasn't enough to keep him satisfied. I knew this from the original series but it seemed to be magnified in "DARKER".

There were a couple of things I did like.
I liked that we got to see what happened to Ros and Christian after Charlie Tango crashed.
Also that we got to see how Christian handled Leila after she threatened Ana in her apartment.

I will always love the FSOG series and Christian was my first love.
I think it's probably best if a third book comes out that I stay away because I don't want my love to be ruined by his POV.

    ✨✨✨

Much have been written about this series, me included, so there isn't any new to say.

Can you believe the spanish edition has almost a hundred more pages than English edition? (88 pages to be fare), but I enjoyed every one of them.

I think is fascinating to be again inside Christian Grey's head, specially in this second book, which is my favorite of the series.

Christian Gray is a person with serious psychological and affective problems, who falls in love with Anastasia and feels an almost physical terror of losing her.

It only remains to wait for at least another year until the last book comes out.

No, thank you. I had hoped this fuckery would be over at some point. Apparently not.

This is book two in Christian's pov of the story Fifty Shades of Grey. I will admit that I have a terrible memory, so all the little details, and even a few scenes...I had totally forgotten, which meant it was almost like reading a new book. Of course, all of the main scenes...the ones that I absolutely will never ever forget....were in this book too! It is basically like reading the same exact book!!! There are no new scenes, just all of the same but in Christian's head...not Ana's. There were some things that were interesting to know...some of his past with that wicked witch, Elena!!! ( I really do despise her!!!)
Also, how deep down, Christian really was a very insecure man who deep down just felt unloveable.

The big question is...Am I glad that I read it?! I have to say that I am...mainly because I did forget a lot of the little details...on the whole though, my rating ended up being less from when I originally read Fifty Shades. I think it is because after Fifty Shades has been out for awhile, there have been a lot of amazing books that have come after these...and I can't in good conscience compare this to some of the others. I found there were a lot of times where I was bored...and the sex scenes were just ok to me. In the past few years, I have read some books that have extremely passionate sex....I just didn't get butterflies this time from Christian and Ana...

Please don't get me wrong though. I still adore Christian Grey...and I am eager to read the next instalment whenever it does come out! Oh, and I am DYING to watch the movie in February! So...yes...this trilogy still affects me...just not near as much as when it very first came out!!!

  • Wendys Wycked Words

Since book 2 was my favorite out of the FSoG series, I just had to give this one from Christian's pov, a go. Not bad I must say, but just like with "Grey", I found there was too much repeated from the second book.

Sure we get Christian's thoughts, which I was very curious about, especially because of the parts with Elena and Leila, but for me it was still like reading the same book again...

“Baby, you read me like one of your books; except I’m not the hero. I’ll never be the hero”.

MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW SO HOT HELP ME GIVE ME SOME AIR.

    #SorryNotSorry

Any idea when the third book comes?
    ~
Reading the book from Christians POV makes me hate Ana's POV even more because
Firstly these book don't focus on her inner goddess thank fuck for that
Secondly, its not all about the sex which is a relief.
Lastly, the inside of Christians head is SOOOOO much better. He is smarter, more mature and just its a bliss to read.

I'm actually looking forward to the third book in his POV.
This book is WAY better than Grey and FSoG because quite frankly only after reading this do you realize his head is so much better, no unnecessary drama.

    ~

Milking it for all its worth. LooooooL

What is left to be said that hasn't already been said in the last FOUR books that the author needs to publish a NEW 560 page novel?

Yep, I’m one of those full -on Fifty fans till the end, and with pride!

This series, like Twilight, changed my life, and I’ll forever be in debt with EL James for the whole new world she opened for this already bookworm. The genre became an absolute addiction, and for that I’ll always adore Christian and Anastacia’s Love story!

Darker, gave much more than I was expecting, and that’s saying a lot since I’ve read and know all the scenes from the original series by heart! I’m a sucker for a male POV, and Ms. James really us gave plenty of new and insightful moments, that just made me love these two even more!
Emotionally charged, ultra steamy, funny and witty, and oh so romantic, Darker had for me a richer and even more developed writing than its predecessors, which fed my FSoG fan addiction to the fullest, and made me practically (given it’s a long one, which I’m thankful, btw) devour it in one sitting!
Can’t wait for the third book in Christian’s POV, can already anticipate how epic it’s going to be! I so need it NOW!

This woman who has dragged me into the light. This woman who loves me in spite of my past, in spite of my wrongdoings. This woman who’s agreed to be mine for the rest of her life.
My girl. My Ana. My love.

    OK, what to say?
I love Fifty Shades. I've loved it since I read it in 2012. I didn't read the fanfic - I hate fanfics. ☺
I loved the first book in Christian's POV and I loved this one, but not as much.
Darker is my favorite of all three books, but Christian was so mushy in his book. So non-dominant, non-manly, non-CEO-ish. Not all the time, but he mostly was. His only thought throughout the book was his fear that Ana would leave him. And I know that he's so horribly scared of that, but it made the book so meh.
BUT - I still loved it and everything in it. I loved the Charlie Tango crash scene and the moment he came back home to find his whole family there.
I loved to finally see what happened with Leila in the bathroom. After the lemon martini with his mom. With Elana in the little bits from the past. So many great moments we now know from his POV. But I also missed so much. I wanted SO much more Dr. Flynn. Where was he???
I wanted more from the past - Elena, little Christian, maybe a bit from school or something like that.
I loved the book, but I would've loved it so much more with a bit more in it. It was a huge book - but I still wanted more. I will always want more with CG. ☺

And now ... I copied something from my review for CG's first book #GREY - because the same thing still applies in his second book - maybe even worse!!! No offense intended, but it has to be said:

What I hated - and what I already hated in the first 3 books - I wish that a talented US AMERICAN editor would've looked over the manuscript before it got published :/ There are soooooo effing many British words and expressions in there - Christian wouldn't say them - or think them. Maybe if he were a 70 year old professor from Oxford.
I don't even know why that bothers me so much... but it does! I know that EL James is British...but Christian is a YOUNG American guy, living in America, so he should talk and think American. It happens a lot with British authors who create an American world. Why not stay in England with your stories if you can't lose the accent? I know it won't probably bother anyone, but it's a real hard-limit for me. ☺ I know - I'm weird - sue me. ☺☺☺

BUT as I said before, I still loved the book - VERY MUCH. And I can't wait to read FREED in Christian's POV! Hurry Erika!

The narrator helped me get through…

I have read, watched and now listened to this series. I surprisingly didn’t mind reading Grey even though it was a story retold. I was curious about Christian’s relationship with Eleanor and what makes him defend, befriend and provide for a child abuser. I found some questions were answered but there were things that I was still curious about. When Darker was released, I wasn’t jumping for joy and rushing to buy it. The cost factor put me off. I was also concerned that my love of the second movie would be diminished because of this book. I really liked the second movie and didn’t want the experienced tainted.

So, my reading experience was a *Wow, kinky stuff is going mainstream?!?!* The movie experience was *Wow, I didn’t need the dark glasses and baseball cap after all!* My listening experience was *Wow, how does a bloke do this (reading out loud) without busting a gut laughing*.

Thank goodness Zachary Webber didn’t bust a gut laughing. He was extremely professional and made listening, a pleasure.

What I find hard is connecting all three experiences. Ana’s version shows a timid and shy girl who is WAY out of her depth, with Christian as an egotistical control freak. The movie shows Ana as having more backbone and sass than the books. Christian also comes across in the movies as more quieter and reserved. Speaking only when he needs to…actions speak louder than words. Unfortunately, Darker (I won’t say the audio because it was the story and not the narration) gave us a Christian Grey that was WEAK, self-loathing and completely lacking in confidence. Every bloody time he starts with the *…she’s going to leave* I wanted to throw something. A couple of times, sure. Every five minutes, though? Torture!!

For the first time in any of my reading, watching and listening experiences, I actually thought *Geez, Christian, talk about double standards*. His controlling ways were something that I accepted as part of his “charm” but to blatantly have one rule for him and one for Ana drove me bonkers. He didn't seem to take Ana’s feelings into consideration at all which made me angry. For the first time EVER I was disgusted with it all. I nearly gave up. I was so incensed, I even thought of forgoing the last movie. I was THAT disgusted and overwhelmed with loathing.

I gained a little satisfaction when Grace found out the truth about Eleanor and whooped her arse for it. Even knowing the outcome and what would play out, I couldn’t help wishing for Grace to

I finished it and it was ONLY thanks to Zachary Weber. If I had read it, I probably would have DNF’d it.

There will probably be a few people who will be questioning why it took me so long to admit Christian is a jerk. The movie really doesn't portray the "real" Christian if Darker is the "real" Christian. The alternate POV has opened my eyes to a few things and made me question how I could have liked FSOG at all. It was the falseness of his love that pushed me over the edge. He was all *I will do anything for you Ana*. In reality, they were just words. He really didn’t take her feelings into account and hardly considered how he would react if the situation was reversed.

I will not be going on if E.L. James brings out an alternate POV for Freed. Christian, you’re a douchewaffle, and there’s no coming back from there.

  • persephone ☾

I wouldn't let Christian touch me even with a stick, get this man away from me 🤢

Now if I'm being honest.. I really didn't want to dive into this book. Like.. at all. I wanted zero part of this book and series because I just wanted it to be over! I will also say that I will probably dive back into the series.. because my star ratings are bullshit for every previous book. I think I based them off of how hilarious they were.. because I still have no idea how these books were published with the poor editing. Sorry for the people who actually like this kind of smut and seeing the word dick over and over again. Just not for me in this case.

Darker is a book that should've have been written in my opinion. I get that it's Christian's POV but I already hated the books from Anna's POV.. so why would I really need to reread the same book from the guy? this whole situation could've been fixed if the books were originally dual POV... but I didn't write them.

Now I will admit that Christina's POV is better than Anna's but that's just because the guy doesn't constantly whine or feel insecure. However, that doesn't mean it was amazing. Sorry guys.. it just wasn't. I'm still kind of shocked that I dove into this book/series.

Overall, it was meh. I still don't like Anna and Christian. They act like little bitches sometimes and I just can't get behind their relationship. I seriously hope that this is the last book, ever.
