American-born gardener Ethne Clarke presents innumerable ways that herb gardens bring new life to any garden scheme. Vivid watercolors complement full-color photos that illustrate a wide range of herb garden design choices, 30 planting plans, and a table of over 200 herbs make this book a truly comprehensive reference.
Herb Garden Design Reviews
-
Each section is in a different style, from a very formal garden to a grey and silver grassy garden. Lots of photos, as well as watercolored garden plans from overhead which are useful. The majority of these gardens are for sunny yards, although some part-shade plants are included in the list at the back. I do think it’s odd you see every type of herb garden from mixed thyme banks to Shakespearean and even a low-allergy garden plan, but no partial shade plan. Lots of mints but no basils. I guess it’s a British thing?
I admit, I bought it for its cover which is a stunning garden photo, and have found it occasionally useful. -
Good book looking at herb garden design.
