In The Kiverson Case by Julie C. Gilbert, Ann and Patrick Duncan, now married two years after several years as law enforcement partners, take part in the arrest of the Kiverson family, where they capture the father, John, but where Emilia Kiverson, the mother manages to kill herself despite Ann’s attempt to stop her. Her three children, Ben, Angela, and Kevin, watch on a tablet from cameras in the house. Full of feelings of hatred, Kevin determines to get revenge.

Another great combination of a mystery & spiritual story.
Once again the Duncans are faced with a life threatening case. Read as their faith in the Lord helps them try to bring this case to an end.
The Duncans are good at their job and are always willing to help someone. I love how they don't push their belief on others, but give enough information for the person to make their own choice. So many people are turned away from God because they feel like they are pressured into it.

What a great action packed story with the Duncans and the Parkers. It is a great Christian mystery/thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. The three Kiverson children have different personalities and see their mother's death differently. Kevin is out for revenge and wants the Duncan's to pay with their lives. So he comes up with this game for them to play that might cost them or their friend's their lives.

The dangers of their job hit close to home...

After listening to the audiobook of the first book in the Heartfelt Cases series, and not being overly impressed, I was a little reluctant to try The Kiverson Case. But, I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did like this second book in the series by Julie C. Gilbert.

While not a riveting psychological story, it is a nice easy to read/listen romantic suspense novel and it made a decent diversion while completing daily tasks. One of the things that I really appreciated about this book is that Julie C. Gilbert's hero and heroine are a married couple which made that dynamic quite different from most romantic suspense novels.

As with the first book in the Heartfelt Cases series, I listened to The Kiverson Case in audiobook. I did like the narrator's voice, and she did a good job differentiating characters by using different 'voices', but there were some technical issues and a distracting amount of mispronounced words. Not a top notch production, but, it was OK. I don't regret listening and I plan on 'reading' the next book in the series.

(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)

I enjoyed this book. I liked the fact that it wasn't just a straight forward case and in fact the bad guy is playing games with the FBI agents, it made it interesting and gave the book a good twist on a simple plot. It could have been a bit longer making more of the clues but then again I am happy to listen to a 12 hour long story. Other than that I really liked it and I am off to start the next next book.
When a raid on a crime family's home goes horrible wrong and a suspects dies. A member of the family swears revenge and targets the two FBI agents he believes the ones responsible. As his deadly plot unfolds the husband and wife team have no choice but to play along with his game and do as he says, in order to protect the innocent public, not to mention there own family members.
I like the narrator, she spoke clearly and with emotion.

The Kiverson Case by Julie C Gilbert.
    Heartfelt Cases book 2

I love the shorter length of the book without missing out on content. The author has not rushed the elements, but has written a good evening’s read.

Patrick and Ann are married now, and are still partners in the FBI. I love when she introduces them as Agent Duncan and my husband Agent Duncan.

They are involved in what they believed would be a routine arrest of a crime family known for trafficking, murder, fraud, etc. They are to arrest the father and mother and bring in the adult children for questioning. During the arrest the mother commits suicide and Ann is blamed for the death.

Kevin Kiverson leads the Duncans in a game that could easily turn deadly. When the baby becomes a target, things heat up.

Great easy read with plenty of suspense and tension.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
A family where each member seems to have committed a horrific crime. So what chance has three children, left hiding, after a raid on their home.
However, it's only one of those children that has a payback complex, that our two favorite FBI agents need to really worry about.
Particularly when said sibling decides to play deadly games.

"It's only a matter of time."
"I don't doubt that, Patrick. I just wonder how long it will take, and how many will die before this is over."

Kevin Kiverson is just one dangerous malefactor in a family notorious for crime. He's out for revenge when he goes after Julie Ann and Patrick Duncan of the FBI. The married pair of special agents are reluctantly drawn into Kiverson's game, but the stakes heighten when the Duncans' baby becomes a target in The Kiverson Case by author Julie C. Gilbert.

I'll maintain that reading the books in the Heartfelt Cases series is good when I'm in an evening-crime-drama-like mood. The books are more like television episodes than movies, length wise, so they're perfect when I'm looking for suspense but am short on time.

Although this second book in the series can likely stand alone, I might have felt a little at sea at the beginning if I hadn't read the first book. There's some head-hopping in the story, and I had a bit of trouble keeping track of who exactly was doing or saying what, a couple times. The villain might've needed another side to make him a more believable character, and I found the story's climax to be a fairly tame one.

Still, I like how the series makes a place for faith without trying to wrap everything up in a perfect bow, and I'll certainly be going on to read Book Three.

Patrick and Ann Duncan are FBI agents involved in the raid on Asan and Amelia Kiverson’s family home. The Kiversons were part of a larger well-known crime family whose extended family members were known for drug trafficking, murder, fraud and the support of terrorists. The plan was to arrest Asan and Amelia, and bring in their 3 children aged Kevin aged 25, Angela aged 18 and Benjamin aged 16 for questioning. Things went well until Amelia managed to kill herself with a poisoned razor blade despite Ann trying to wrestle it away from her.

Kevin vows revenge on the Duncans for murdering his mother. He forces them into playing a “game” with him in which someone will die at each stage if they either don’t participate or they fail to meet the target in time.

The Kiverson Case is not the first time we have seen Patrick and Ann Duncan working together. In the previous encounter they were not married, but got to know one another and fell in love. In this book they have been married awhile and now have an infant child, Joseph. I like that we get to see this young family grow and change. We also get to follow Jonathan Parker and his wife Rachel who we met in the previous book (The Collins Case) and follow their friendship with the Duncans.

The twists and turns in this case get more and more harrowing in this case as the clues that are given for the “game” are few. The Duncans are given the time the task must be complete and a short poem with a clue and from that derive what the task is and where each must go to complete it.

In a strange turn of events Ann must put her life on the line, trusting solely on God to keep her safe, in order to save Benjamin Kiverson from Kevin Kiverson. One thing that I found interesting and refreshing about The Kiverson Case was that the characters of the antagonists (the Kiversons) were also developed quite a bit as well. It was interesting to see the changes in the characters of Kevin Kiverson across the course of the novel as well as Benjamin.

One of the best things about this novel was its clean content. This was a suspense/thriller novel like any other, yet without any foul language. I found that refreshing, and didn’t miss that kind of language at all.

Of course, The Kiverson Case is does also fit in the Christian category also, and so that also shows through in the book as well, but the book is not preachy. Basically Patrick and Ann simply just pray for assistance from Jesus and ask his blessing on those that need it

I thoroughly enjoyed The Kiverson Case and I hope the Julie Gilbert continues with this series. If you like moderately suspenseful thrillers, this may be the book for you. I gave it 5 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

I was given this book in E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book comes in a few years after the end of book one. Ann and Patrick are now married and their lives are busier than ever…

This book might have the same characters as book one, but they are so different from what they were in book one!!

The characters have become more developed and are just as riveting! The case involving Kevin gets very deep and when things don’t work out entirely right Ann has found herself and her friends in danger.

Again, in this book there is a definite religious presence but like the first one, I didn’t find myself being smothered by the Christianity… it was more of a light undertone for me. This could be different for others as I am not Christian, so I don’t read into every little thing as having a religious tone to it.

This story is a great read for young adults and even late teens!!

I give this book 4 out of 5 shields!!

Another chapter in the lives of agents Duncan and Duncan. Their lives are threatened after they crack a cartel ring. The eldest son is out for revenge and is willing to do anything to kill the agents. Can they solve the case before anything happens to them? A lovely Christian read. It is wonderful to read a Christian mystery/ thriller without all the gore and graphic violence in traditional police procedural novels. Ms Gilbert certainly writes well and weaves the story around her faith, giving us all a glimpse into how one would combine the brutality of what the police see on a daily basis and how a Christian perspective helps one to cope. A good read for any age! Looking forward to future novels in the Heartfelt series.

Thank you Julie for this book. Continuing the cases of Special Agent Julie Ann Duncan and her now husband Special Agent Patrick from her first book, The Collins Case. The Kiverson family is involved with numerous illegal activities and the 2 agents are involved in a raid on their home which results in the family looking for revenge on the agents as well as their family and friends. Faith in God helps get them through their problems and changes one of the Kiverson boys to change his outlook on life for the better.

This is another great book in the series. I'm enjoying the main FBI agents and their interactions with each other. My only complaint, is I want longer books. And I still want prequel stories about how these two meet and begin working together! That'd be fun to read. I didn't see this book on B&N or Kobo, so I'll just leave a review on Goodreads & Amazon. Great book, great series, great narrator.

  • Jeryl Smith

This is the second book in the Heartfelt Cases series. It was just as action packed as the first, with just enough humor in between the tense parts to keep one from holding their breath! The characters are endearing & they each share & live their faith. Make sure you read the epilogue!

I like this author's distinctive voice and the way she weaves a Christian message naturally into the story. The book is short and fun to read.

The second entry in Julie C. Gilbert's wonderful Heartfelt Cases series, is just as suspenseful and thrilling as the first. As this married Christian FBI couple, now with a child, race to defuse a threat to themselves and their friends and family, we are also treated to snippets of their homelife and dedication to God. I can't recommend this series highly enough. A quick, enjoyable read that will get your blood pumping and your soul searching.
