3.5 stars --Grilled Pizza Sandwiches is a fine choice for vegetarian families with school- aged children, or adults like me who have the cooking skills of school-aged children. It’s also a great option for any family that wishes to incorporate more meatless meals into their routine.

I liked that the recipes were simple, with very common ingredients that can be purchased anywhere. Lazy cook and cheapskate that I am, I will be using these recipes far more than the more complicated and exotic fare.

This cookbook would be most suited to lacto-ovo-vegetarians. All of the recipes contain dairy and/or eggs. While they could be easily tweaked to contain vegan ingredients, the exchanges were not listed within the recipes. I wish the authors would have included everyone by adding vegan exchanges for the ingredients (i.e. one egg or 1/3 cup applesauce; one cup dairy or soy milk). Vegans are also likely to be displeased by this aside within the book’s pages:

More cheese please. Cheese is a great source of calcium. Calcium keeps your bones and teeth healthy. Everyone should eat three servings of calcium-rich foods each day. Other great sources of calcium include yogurt and milk.

…and broccoli, kale, fortified soymilk, and many other
plant-based choices. How disappointing that the author neglects to mention this anywhere in the book. Ironically, the above piece of advice is paired with the book’s least healthy recipe—a casserole composed entirely of tater tots and melted cheese.
