It’s 1869 and love is starting to blossom in the booming town of Bear River City.
This historically inspired Western romance much-loved series is about empowered women who turn around their hopeless circumstances in this mid-19th-century tale of the old West, with strong faith and discover genuine men and true love.
Meet Mary Anderson, a twelve-year-old girl who appreciates the beautiful ray of the sunshine, a bunch of wildflowers in the garden, or a singing bird in the tree. She arrived at the orphanage when she was a baby. The nuns were the only family that she knew. Her mother had died giving birth, and all she knew of her father was his name, Richard Anderson. Sometimes she would ask the nuns for more information, but they would tighten their lips and look away, telling Mary that a young girl should not ask too many questions. Mary was sure that they knew more than they were telling, but they were deaf to the pleas.
Mary knew that she was lucky to have been raised here, but sometimes she yearned to have a family of her own. She fears of becoming a spinster someday stuck up in the orphanage all her life, not having a family of her own. Afraid of the thought, Mary took a leap of faith and answered the ad she read on the newspaper, looking for a mail order bride.
What happened six years ago that made Mary hate guns and anything related to violence?
Thomas tries to outrun his past, but the sour truth keeps hunting him. What is the reason why he is hardly to forgive himself?
Who is Silver Heels, and why was he so important in their lives?
Come on now and hang out with the wonderful folks in Atlanta where Mary had known life in the orphanage. Get to know Sister Grace & Sister Rose, the Christian nuns who always look after them. Trixie Sheldon, the kind and friendly store owner who never fails to give Mary candies and goodies for the children. Thomas Smith, the sheriff who tries to run from the dark history of the past. And don’t forget to get to know the brave and fearless horse!

Orphan Finds Love
I saw the notations when I first started reading about this story being revised to correct errors. They may have been, but I still found several errors in the story. Misspellings, words in sentences twice, wrong pronouns.
The story was about a mail-order bride & a sheriff. The heroine wanted nothing to do with guns because of a tragedy when she was twelve years old. The hero was a sheriff who believed there was no need for guns in the city limits of the towns where he worked. Once they agree to marry & become husband & wife, Mary is finally feeling like she has a family & belongs. It is her faith in God that will be tested throughout the story. Is her faith strong enough to help Mary persevere? -
Would rate higher stars if allowed! 10 stars! Must Read!
Thomas Smith was a lawman of the finest caliber.
Born in New York City on June 12, 1840, Smith grew up to be a middle-weight professional boxer before joining the New York City Police force. However, after being involved in the accidental killing of a 14-year-old boy, Smith left the force in 1868 and took a job with the Union Pacific Railroad.
Smith’s first official acts was to ban all weapons in town without a permit. Within 48 hours, everyone had turned over their weapons to Smith.
I tell you to look up this mans history.
In this story you meet Mary, she travels to Bear River City, Wyoming to marry Thomas Smith who is a Sheriff.
They fall in love with each other and everything is going well until vigilantes destroy the town and shoot up the town up to 16 people parish and the town is left in charred out remains.
Thomas and Mary move to Texas and again he in forces the no gun law. Most people are alright with this law others are not so happy. I’ll leave it here and I’ll tell you this I cried during the last few chapters. Very touching story. I very much would have enjoyed hearing more about Mary. But this story isn’t about her ending it’s about Silver Heels and Thomas Smith. -
Great Read
I choose this not just because I like this genre, but also because of its interesting synopsis. I was a counselor for a children's home (age 11-18) many years ago. I felt a connection to Mary. She never knew her mother, as she had died during child birth, and Mary's father left her at the orphange when she was a few days old and disappeared. The nuns treated Mary and all the children with great kindness. However, Mary longed to have a life and family of her own. I wanted to see how Mary's future worked out. I think Mary is a courageous and strong woman. I look forward to reading more in this series. Nice work Ms Wyatt. -
I found this book to be very interesting about a young girl living at an orphanage since birth. A horrible and terrifying death in front of her eyes leaves her disliking guns. She falls in love with a sheriff and so much happens in their quiet little town. I loved reading this book…one of my favorite genre’s.

Enjoyed the plot of the book but found the wrong tense of many words or words left out of a sentence or extra words in sentences to be somewhat distracting. Otherwise, the author is an excellent storyteller.

Couldn't put it down
Wonderfully written, suspenseful. I loved how the book is clean and referenced the Bible a few times. Can't wait to read some more. -
It felt too summarized, and the characters were pretty thin. I wanted a lot more from the story. I'll probably check out another book by this author to see if she improves.

Good plot, choppy writing. Hugs gaps of nothing surrounded by a tiny bit of action. Written for very low level readers or readers who don't have much time.

Entertaining storyline

The author wrote that these stories are inspired by actual historical people and events this is an amazing story including an amazing horse, Silver Heels. At birth Mary Anderson was left on the steps of an Orphanage in Bear Creek, she was raised by the Nuns until age 18. The Nuns encouraged her to find a job and to live on her own.
Mary found a Mail Order Bride Agency and place an ad. Thomas Smith, the Sheriff in Georgia, Utah saw the ad and the correspondence began from Georgia, Utah to Mary Anderson in Bear Creek. After many letters back and forth, Mary and Thomas met in Utah at the train station and was married the next day.
This story has been rewritten and revised with an outstanding surprise ending. This author, Katie Wyatt is an amazing author she is known for her many box sets of books that she has written. I enjoy reading her books, they are interested and entertaining. These are short stories, stand-alone, fast paced and easy to read books. -
Spoilers... silver heels
Mary was left as a baby on the steps of an orphanage. The sisters raised her and when she is 18 she writes to a lawman named Thomas.
Thomas is a wonderful lawman takes care of the town and everyone tells him he needs a wife.
I read the other story about Thomas being gunned down and his widow Mary commissions along with the town a monument of Thomas and his faithful horse Silver Heels.
This story has a better ending although it isn’t true.
After reading the first story I got to the point where he should have died and was a little stunned how the rest of the story went.
If you like happy endings read this story. -
This author has potential of being a good story teller. She just needs to embellish scenes better as well as add emotion. You do not get all bonded to the characters even though they are sweet and a great story line, it is just lacking..It is like it is an outline of the story and the feeling you need to get bonded will be filled in later...With these things lacking in her authormenship I am not anxious to read another of her stories. But again they hold great potential. I hope this is a constructive review and it is not to be critical. Just hope to see improvement, good luck.
