Sir Goofy and The Dragon Reviews
-
Found this one in a yard sale this weekend. Another one of the many Disney's Wonderful World of Reading titles I had as a kid, though my copy of this one didn't make it through the many yard sales and donation bags over the years.
The story is a pretty simple. It's the thorn in the lion's paw story, with a medieval twist. If you enjoy trying to talk like Goofy, it's a fun book to read aloud to kids, as the ol' Goofster has lots to say.
The book holds up well to modern standards, as well. The art's as great as it always is in this series. There's no fighting; kindness saves the day. No "ism" or "ist" is prominently on display. There are zero female characters, which might be disconcerting to some parents, I suppose. But when--after reading a lot of Shel Silverstein lately--the hardest question I had to field in the story is "What's a 'smithy'?" I consider that a win. -
One of my daughter's favorites!
