On the Saturday following Mary Meyer’s murder, five people gathered at her Georgetown home and tore it apart searching for the secret diary. Sometime before she died, Mary had entrusted to her friends James and Ann Truitt the fact of her affair with JFK and the existence of a diary recounting some of her evenings with the President.

In The Mysterious Murder of JFK’s Mistress, Ron Rosenbaum investigates the murder of Mary Pinochet Meyer, whose affair with President John F. Kennedy became tabloid fodder, and who was found shot to death on October 12, 1964. Immediately after her death, one of the CIA’s top priorities was finding the diary in which Meyer chronicled her relationship with the late president and the secrets they shared.

The Mysterious Murder of JFK’s Mistress was originally published in New Times, October 1976, and co-authored with Philip Nobile.

The Mysterious Murder of JFKs Mistress (Singles Classic) Reviews

  • Greg

I think the problem here was I just don't care. It sounds like conspiracy theory and I'm just not that into that. I did appreciate the tag at the end, though, providing an update since the original publication.

  • Lisa

    Another conspiracy theory

Okay quick read about one of JFK's alleged mistresses who met a tragic end. Sad story but considering the toxic effect the Kennedys had on those around them not surprising.

  • Francis O'Neill

    Forgotten figure

Short well written piece on a forgotten, for me anyway, figure from history. The focus of conspiracy theories but as usual probably a the victim of random effects. Mistress seems to be an overstatement and the connection with the watergate scandal is a connection that will thrill conspiracy completists.

  • Lynda

    Hmmmmm

Yet another woman who had an affair with JFK. She ends up dead after his assassination and her murder is unsolved. And her diary. Was it copied? And where is that copy if it exists?

A very short story that lays out known facts . And speculations.

  • Betty Jean Day

    Great late night reading

This is a great book. Really great for anyone that enjoys a good read about JFK. Great over all short book.

  • Karen Billingsley

    Nothing new

Don't waste your time on this. Just a rehash of what was already known. What does it matter now anyway?

  • Michelle

very interesting and informative. short and sweet!!

  • Astin Payton

    Good short read.

Interesting short read. Not really what I was expecting but I enjoyed it. Interesting look at an unsolved crime. Good

  • Jeannine Phillips

    Not very interesting

Just the usual Conspiracy theories. It was like reading a news article. Would not suggest. 2 hours I will never get back

  • Lisa

#66 of 120 books pledged to read during 2019

  • Jason

    Short quick read

Just add this to the many other conspiracies surrounding JFK. So many people involved and no one has a clue what really happened.

  • Pug

Hardly anything about the affair itself, which was clearly what I wanted to read about! The rest was tedious, gossipy hearsay.

  • Frieda

Well, basically a recap of something I didn't actually know about, I thought it would be of more interest than it was.

  • Ta

Not necessarily my genre. I have stumbled upon a somewhat fun and intriguing murder mystery. The mention of Nixon tickled me.

  • Dean

This is a short read about yet another conspiracy surrounding JFK. The book gives the surrounding facts/findings of what happened but doesn't go that deep. The writer did an okay job with the information he had, but the information presented was really only surface level and it was hard to keep my attention at times. If your looking for something quick and interesting then I would recommend it, but don't expect anything more than what you would get from a lengthy article which is exactly what this is, or a concise documentary.

  • Barbara M

The author, Ron Rosenbaum, investigates the murder of President John F. Kennedy's mistress. Her diary, which supposedly told of her affair with the president could not be located upon her death. He discusses who may have murdered her and what may have happened to the diary.

It sounds like it would be an interesting read but it wasn't. The author several times used the National Enquirer for a source. That immediately turned me off.

  • Lois

    Fascinating

For anyone that likes conspiracy theories, this is a must read. I thought it would explain more of Mary's personality, reasons for her un-friendship with Jackie. I like conspiracy theories. Especially around JFK. I could see it tied to the assignation in 1963. Makes for a more fascinating and interesting tale for the rest of us.

  • Liz

Quick, interesting read about yet another one of JFK's mistresses who 'died' under mysterious circumstances. I can't help but think that the truth about her death is much closer than anyone is willing to admit, but that due to the nature of her involvement with the late president, nobody will say. Tragic. But nicely written and an easy read.

  • Stephen Snead

    Interesting but, ultimately nothing new.

It's a little disjointed. Starts off slowly but builds for a moment. Then gets bogged down with references to minor art and not much real detail on the case.
