The ‘J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World: Movie Magic’ comes in three volumes, and each book includes details of all eight films and also Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The first volume is all about Extraordinary People and Fascinating Places. Throughout the book there is information about the different characters from the movies and items that belong to them.

The first part of the book is dedicated to Fantastic Beasts and opens with Newt Scamander. You get to learn about the character, his props (Including his famous case), as well as the actor that portrayed him, Eddie Redmayne.

As well as written information and plenty of photographs there are also lots of flaps to lift, doors to open, items to turn, stickers to use and even copies of props from the film – such as leaflets and letters.

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so this book really intrigued me. I received all three volumes together and must of spent at least a couple of hours pouring over them.

My only concern that I have with the book is how delicately some of the items to open are glued in, mainly by one of the top corners. These would need to be handled with care. I would say that this wouldn’t be a good book to let a young child get their hands on.

This would be perfect for any Harry Potter fan. I’ve added it, and the other two, to my growing collection of HP books.

    🤩

This book is amazing for any Harry Potter fan, I received this book as a gift after watching the movies.
I love that there is a lot of pictures from the movie in it, and lots of explanation, by reading it, I learnt a lot, as there was a lot of details I missed when watching the films first time.
The book is also interactive which is fun, lots of stickers, lift the flap and other fun things inside.

This book is full of fascinating and funny facts! It's great to see Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter combined like this, and the removable items make for a fun extra. Especially enjoyable was the actors' take on their role.

I absolutely loved this! There was so much information and fun facts jack packed into this book that I was totally blown away by! Getting a look behind the scenes of the films was so neat, and I really enjoyed the extras that were included.

Normally I wouldn’t count this as a book read, but why not? I read it. I loved increasing my knowledge of behind-the-scenes stuff and it made me want to watch the last three movies again soon. I got to find out why Harry’s eyes aren’t green in the movies and that Neville, Molly, and Umbridge were all padded. 😂

A fun look into how Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter was made. Also a bit of a look into the actors and actresses.
I really enjoy reading and watching extras. You really don't realize how much work goes into making movies and it makes you appreciate each movie more as well as not only the actors and actresses, but the writers, directors and all the people behind the scenes.

Just another bit added to make the wizarding world feel like it’s real. And with extras, like pets that fold out, flip over, stickers, and masks - this book feels like something from the wizarding world itself.

  • Nikki Flynn

I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes look on how my favorite movies were made!

  • Emma Francois

Awesome insight into the wizarding world !! Really awesome facts, some of which I’ve never heard of before!

This was recommended to me by Henry.
Personally, I think behind the scene books deserve as much appreciation as the original movie/series, but that's just my opinion. ;)

Lovely as always to revisit the wizarding world :)

What I liked about the book was reading about how some of the settings were made and all the details they made in making of the movie. You got to see how they made certain things happen, like the Scene where Harry made Aunt Marge blow up! (They used makeup and inflatable suits.) I would have liked to seen more about Severus Snape and Luna Lovegood.

The first section of Extraordinary People and Fascinating Places focuses on the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film. However the majority of this book centres around the Harry Potter series, which I was personally more interested in. One of my usual complaints about books similar to this is the repetition of information, especially from the films themselves. While this did contain some of that, a lot of the information was new to me, which made it much more of an entertaining read. There were also quotes from some of the actors and crew members, which were pretty insightful, and the removable inserts were fun little additions too.

This has been one of the better books of this type that I have read. While I did not love the section on Fantastic Beasts, the Harry Potter part more than made up for it. The information provided was insightful, engaging and for the most part, new to me.

I almost pre-ordered this book, but seeing it advertised as for 'young fans', decided against it. Then I spotted it in Wh Smiths, had a look through and fell in love! The beginning has lots of fabulous information from Fantastic Beasts, and the rest is Harry Potter. There are great posters, props and pop-up sections that make it really interactive and fun to read. There's even some stickers that I have already put to good use! Definitely not just for youngsters, I'm 23 and absolutely adore it!

I flipped through this book in about an hour and I absolutely loved every minute of it! The amount of flaps, stickers, and other goodies inside this book is fantastic and makes it so much fun to read! It is also a really great way to learn more about the Wizarding World and how it was visually created. 10/10 would recommend for any Harry Potter fan!

This is an amazing book that’s just perfect for Harry Potter fans! This hardback is around A4 in size although wider and is beautifully embossed with shiny gold details and glossy images on both the front and back cover. Inside are thick glossy, and heavy, pages filled with colourful pictures and lots of little things to pull out and look at.

‘Extraordinary People and Fascinating Places’ is the first book in the ‘J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World Movie Magic’ series and is all about the various characters from the films as well as key locations from the movies, explaining how they were made for the film, with lots of interesting details I just didn’t know. There’s a great introduction at the start of the book explaining a few details about how the films were made, including a quick diagram of where everything in Hogwarts is (drawn by J. K. Rowling herself!). After this the book focusses on ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them’ followed by the Harry Potter books.

Each page or double page spread features one character or a location such as Diagon Alley. There’s a few pieces of text, arranged in small snippets, among the pictures that explain the character or location in the movie and some fun facts about them. Some of the facts for the people include quotes from the actors about their characters or information about how a certain look was achieved. I had no idea about the issues Daniel Radcliffe had with some glasses and contacts and it was really interesting to read this and so many other facts. The places have information such as how sets were built and if they were based on a real location or were filmed somewhere real. I especially enjoyed finding out where all the various classes at Hogwarts were filmed, there’s a surprising amount of different locations! Not every character in the movies is given a whole page but most of the important ones are and the others are mentioned on a pull out page near the end of the book.

Each page is filled with lots of photographs from the films and off-set as well as some illustrations, including some simple sketches. Many of the pages also feature extra things such as flaps to lift, fun things to turn (the sort of things when you pull a flap in a pop-up book it reveals something) and lots of pieces of paper stuck in with extra things to look at such as posters. I especially enjoyed the newspaper with the removable postcards hidden behind it and there was even a booklet with a storyboard of one of the scenes of Harry Potter, which looks like it’s the real story board as it’s even stamped! These little bits are stuck into the pages by a small flap and just make this book so much more fun and very special. There are stickers too and on the inside of the back cover there are two death eater masks slotted into a pouch which look really creepy and you can just attach some string and wear them.

I can’t believe the quality of this book and how fun it is to read. I think anyone interested in Harry Potter or even how the movies were made will really enjoy this book. It’s so lovely it’s like a gift on its own which I recommend but it’s also part of a series of books and I’d also recommend them!

I think you'll agree with me when I say, that to be a Potter fan requires an understanding that everything Potter related is Gold - there is no such thing as a rubbish Wizarding World related book because it's so massive I don't think even the most die-hard fans will ever truly know all the ins and outs. Well, maybe you will, after reading the three books which make up the Movie Magic Collection.

Volume One which you're now perusing takes a look at "People and Places" from not only Harry Potter but also from Newt Scamanders World too. The books take us into the magic behind the wizardry we see in the movies - I know you might think this could spoil the experience, but if this book had been published when the movies were originally released I would have been all over it like a bad rash caused by a back-firing spell.

I love how diverse this book is - not only do you have loads of information surrounding how the people and places came to look the way they do, but so many insider secrets are also shared. You can't tell me you haven't ever considered how Hagrid looks so massive in the films? Or how the actors didn't keep smashing into the platform wall? Don't try it. It's embarrassing.

From people profiles to interactive pull-outs to keep you entertained for hours, this book is more than just a pretty Potter related book to add to the collection. Although let me just say how beautiful the three books do look on the shelf!

It doesn't matter how old you are, you'll always be a Potter-head at heart. So get your hands on all the stickers, death-eater masks, interactive flaps to flip up, a small Quibbler (haven't you always wanted to see what Luna was banging on about?) and all the creative ideas sprinkled throughout this book. You won't be disappointed.

This book was a wonderfully illustrated, and written, backstage pass into the making of Harry Potter. It covered material from Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them, and the Harry Potter Film series. Characters, settings and creatures from the films were discussed and analyzed. We learned things like what went into their costumes, how their wands were crafted to fit the character, the digital effects that went into creating creatures and settings and so much more. Each page about a character offered quotes or insights directly from the person who played them, so we got a look at how the actors felt about, and influenced, their characters. The book itself, if you were to buy a personal copy, comes with wonderful additions such as stickers, mini-posters, pull tab elements, reproductions of items like Lily's letter from Deathly Hallows and a New York Ghost newspaper and paper Death Eater masks. The illustrations were vibrant, and the text was arranged in an eye-catching way, that made your eye want to travel around the page and read all the different text bubbles and captions. A really entertaining book.
