As many in fandom will be aware, Scream Street creator, Beano writer, Doctor Who author and all round lovely guy, Tommy Donbavand, has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently recovering from a series of painful and unpleasant treatments as he battles to kick this horrible, horrible disease into touch. If you follow Tommy's blog (http://www.tommyvcancer.com/) you'll know that one of the worst things he has to face, in addition to the physical and mental pain, is the inability to write and visit schools – a major part of the income he and his family rely on to live.

Obviously there are a lot of things we can all do to support Tommy – sign up to his Patreon, buy his books, or just let him know that we're thinking of him – but we thought it might be a more immediately helpful idea to put together a Doctor Who short story collection, with all the profits going to help Tommy in what really is his hour of need.

And, due to the kindness and commitment of a plethora of authors, that’s what we’ve done. A Target for Tommy seemed the perfect title for a book where anything Who-ish goes – any Doctor, any companion, any sort of story…

Tommy’s one of our own – and right at this moment he could do with a wee help…

All the best,
Stuart Douglas and Paul Magrs

A charity anthology which takes advantage of its unofficial status to go wild - crossing the Doctor over with everything from Top Gear and the Teletubbies to Miss Fisher and Mapp & Lucia. Equally odd combinations are of course possible without leaving the established franchise - so Richard E Grant's Shalka Doctor teams up with Rowan Atkinson's, plus Cushing's Dr. Who; the Sixth Doctor plays his part in the Time War, which turns out to involve luchadores; and the divisive leads of 'Love & Monsters' (yes, she's still a paving stone) meet some familiar faces from The Daemons to sort out a possessed alpaca. Contributors include familiar pro and semi-pro names (Pauls Cornell and Magrs are probably the best-known), and while I'm not sure I've ever read an anthology whose quality wasn't variable, this one certainly has a higher hit rate than most.

A delightful Doctor Who anthology for a good cause, A Target For Tommy is full of enjoyable short stories that brim with affection and enthusiasm, featuring most of the Doctors from Hartnell to Capaldi. Many of these tales are genuinely excellent, such as a short stay in hospital for Leela, or an adventure with several Doctors of questionable canon, or a moving romance for Jo Grant. On a few occasions the writing can be rough around the edges but the sheer verve keeps it readable. (For instance, one was written decades ago by an 11-year-old. The odd brusqueness is part of the charm!) It’s a book made with love.
